Oh man... this was a bit rough. This is an American Chinese restaurant in Hood River. I believe the only one. When I think of good American Chinese food, I think of crispy deep fried meat in batter, with light/fragrant sauce. It's strong but still tasty. Unfortunately this restaurant just seemed tired. That's the word I'd describe for everything here. The decor was not very nice, and there were stains in a lot of the restaurant carpet and booths. It was silent, so it added to an uncomfortable ambiance. With that, I really had to take a star off. The waitress was nice enough, it was an efficient kind of service I expected, so that didn't bother me. Food came out in a reasonable time. I got this combo for $15.5. I guess thats a fine price for the given portions. But the food was not all there. Most things tasted strange - even the fortune cookie seemed slightly stale and the soy sauce old. The fried rice was a bit off as it didn't seem fried, and just a slightly mushy. The egg roll was weirdly large, too large to eat in a single bit. The BBQ ribs were inconsistent. I think the sauce was very heavy on the corn starch and syrup that it was almost gelatinous. The pork char siu pieces tasted fine in terms of flavor but felt a bit cold and dry. The dipping sauce was a little weird - gingery, definitely sticky, and definitely with corn starch or syrup. Overall was so sad about this restaurant and hope they can improve, but it's looking grim.

We rode on the Polar Express Train and the girls were hungry for Chinese Food. So Thankful Yelp brought us to the local Hood River Restaurant! The inside reminds me of the Chinese Restaurant in the Christmas Story The food was fresh fast and so yummy!!! Hot n Sour Soup fantastic!! The house special LoMein so good and huge portions!! General style chicken also fantastic along with the Beef n Broccoli If you are in the area, this is a great lunch or dinner choice.. we definitely all needed to go boxes!!

Good place to relax and play some video poker. Good service and good food. There's always really nice people here. On the weekends there karaoke in hand back room of the bar. When ever I am in hood river I usually come here. It's slot of fun.

Satisfied with our meal. I would recommend this place if interested in Chinese food. Pros: Food was satisfied. Hosts provided good service and an authentic Chinese ordering experience. Huge portions. Great value for the money. Immediate seating. Locals seem to frequent the place. Cons: The bathroom was a bit grungy, but did not smell. Not the prettiest interior. Let's be honest, it isn't a ritzy place. The food isn't gourmet. It's good ole fashioned Chinese food served by Chinese speaking service people. It filled my belly with much needed food and I would go there again. There was a nostalgic pre-snobby feel to the place that added to my enjoyment. It wasn't pretending to be anything other than "here's your food, enjoy".

Hood rivers Chinese food scene is subpar. Figured I would try this place since the panda one wasn't good. Ordered take out. General tso chicken and pan fried noodles. Pretty fast actually. 12 minutes. Opened up the chicken first, looked alright but the breading was falling off. Kinda looked left over. Sauce seemed like a sweet and sour doused in red chili flakes. Was a bit too sweet compared to most I've had. Then the noodles. Honestly looked like top Ramen that was pan fried. They seemed better than the chicken. I know its take out but the soy sauce tasted cheap. 27$ for 2 things. Might have been better after a few drinks but definitely disappointing.

I ate at this restaurant twice while staying at the hotel in March and April, once for dinner and…read moreonce for breakfast. Both meals were great. Service was prompt, and the restaurant atmosphere is very pleasant. It's kind of funny because you'll have people in suits having a business meeting over dinner, and other regular hotel guests just dining casually in t-shirts and jeans. On both occasions, I was dining with another family member. When we were there for dinner, we were having a really hard time deciding what to order, and our server let us know that there was a 2-for deal going on for some of the pastas. Each of us had been considering a pasta, so that solved that problem! Both were delicious, and we had leftovers to take home. When we were there for breakfast, I was feeling adventurous and ordered the lox and bagel, which I've only had a very basic version of one other time. It was soooo good, and very filling. Several other options on the breakfast menu also sounded really good, but I'm glad I went with this for the experience. I'd definitely eat here again if/when I stay in the hotel again. Since there's no free breakfast offered by the hotel, they give you vouchers for the restaurant, so you can get a pretty good deal on a meal.

I'd give Riverside Restaurant a solid 4.5 stars based on our breakfast visit…read more I ordered the chilaquiles, and they were excellent, flavorful, still pleasantly crunchy where they should be, and just a really strong version of the dish. Definitely the standout of the table for me. Service was friendly and expedient, which I always appreciate in the morning when everyone is trying to get caffeinated and out the door. My companions ordered the protein bowl, which was a hearty mix of grains and grilled vegetables with your choice of tofu or egg. It leaned a little bland flavor-wise, but it did exactly what it needed to do: provided a filling, healthy base for a full day of activity in Hood River. Not every dish was a knockout, but overall it was a very solid breakfast spot with fair pricing at about $18 per dish.

Went here for the first time last night and am highly impressed! Chef Ben Stenn has created a true…read morefine dining experience with Celilo. The atmosphere is casual and inviting but the food, both quality and presentation, steals the show. We tried a gin cocktail that was as beautiful as it was inventive. We followed this with the brussel sprouts salad which was lightly roasted but still tasted and looked green in the most delightful way, with some kind of light dressing that celebrates the vegetables in the salad medley without overpowering them. We took Calvin's recommendation and ordered the special which was a three mushroom fettuccine: it was perfection. The pasta was served al dente, the mushrooms included shitake, hedgehog, and one other and all had a unique flavor that stood out with each bite. The pasta sauce was buttery but somehow almost effervescent, embracing but not suffocating, with just enough cheese to know it's there but not enough to have it overpower the dish. At this point we didn't think the meal could get any better but then we ordered the pear, huckleberry, and pluot sorbet made at Celilo and we're now committed to coming back. The sorbet featured locally sourced Bosc pears and that flavor may have been my favorite as it was unlike any other sorbet I have ever tasted. All were sweet but complex. Simply an amazing dining experience that I recommend to anyone fortunate enough to get a table here!

Definitely got the small town diner feel here, and everything on the menu sounded so good! They also have a specials board inside so make sure to take a look before you make your decision. I finally decided on the south of the border omelette, which also comes with hash browns or potatoes or fruit, and a biscuit or muffin or toast. Such a satisfying and filling meal! The omelette itself was not short on ingredients at all, and I loved the cilantro. The menu did mention homemade salsa but I didn't see any of that on the side or inside. Other than that, the eggs were cooked nicely. I picked the chorizo biscuit on the side and it was so soft and fluffy inside! I also appreciated the amount of options on the kids menu. There was plenty more options than just your standard pancake, bacon, and eggs. Our kids loved the pigs in a blanket which was actually quite big and perfect for our two kids to split. Service was awesome, our server was so kind and even brought out our friend's son's maple bar with a candle because he mentioned it was his birthday. She did it without us even asking which was so sweet! The food came out so quickly too despite the entire restaurant being full. Great experience here at Bette's!
