Overwhelmingly average. This is a nice feeling restaurant, clean and has a modern feel to it but between small portions, high prices and underwhelming flavors it felt like we were paying more for the *environment* than the food. You can get better, more authentic food at literally any taco truck in South Omaha at less than half the price per taco. This just didn't feel worth the money and we ended up going across the street for dumplings immediately following dinner because *nobody finished anything*. Nothing really stood out as special, which is disappointing considering each individual taco you order is $5-6. - shrimp and bacon: well seasoned and that aioli really complemented the shrimp. Not impressed that it only had 3 shrimp on it and I'm not sure if bacon was added. - Mushroom: ... this one was everybody's least favorite. It was DRY and tasted like smoke. Nothing was added to give it some moisture and it felt like an attempt to make a mushroom taste like meat but it didn't go well. - carnitas and chicken: both of these fall into the same category of nothing to write home about but meet what you'd expect. - Brisket: this one was the best of the day, hands down. I wouldn't say it saved the evening but it was the best meat on the menu. Only note was it made the single tortilla really wet so as soon as I picked it up the tortilla ripped in half. Not complaining about it though as it was the only thing that felt worth the money. - seared tuna: also shockingly dry?? It's barely cooked, how is it dry?? Bland. - El Jefe (rice bowl): once again brisket saved the day but the rice was soggy and I just wasn't impressed especially at the price point. - esquites: not up to par with elote or other esquites I've had... this was the start of our dinner and it was on the bottom with the mushroom taco. The portion size was also incredibly small. We ordered 3 for the table and none returned to the kitchen empty. Our waitress was plenty friendly and prompt- we DID enjoy the service. Not sure how I haven't written a review for Hook & Lime before! Their salsa trio flight is my favorite thing ever, the yellow pineapple salsa 20/10! This last time though, we definitely got a mix of fresh & stale chips which was very sad some bites and happy some bites! Our server was amazing, friendly, and attentive! Back again after a recent Yelp event at Hook and Lime. I found myself returning to enjoy some of the wonderful food and specialty drink concoctions. En tow was my husband who listened to me rave about this restaurant no end and insisted on coming and trying it for himself. We were not disappointed! All of the food is made to order, top quality ingredients, and plenty of TLC to make their dishes truly their own The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating and we were lucky enough to find a pleasant afternoon to still enjoy the outside area before it gets cold! Their guacamole was also VERY delicious and seasoned. Staff was super friendly and greeted us before we got all the way in. Service was speedy and the vibes were immaculate. I absolutely adored the scenery and decor of this restaurant along with the music that complimented it. It was a super chill playlist including sza, the internet, and other underrated artists. I wish I was able to visit on a Tuesday. Apparently they have a thing called "No Tech Tuesday" where you lock your phone up and actually enjoy your company while enjoying super crazy discounts. We love H&L! After coming here for a Yelp event last year, we couldn't want to come back again. We were sat by the window but moved to the bar, there are air registers above all the tables that were uncomfortably chilly in cold weather. They were great about moving us up to the bar and we had our pick of seats. We were able to chat with the bartender about the food, drinks, and life. That's why we love sitting at the bar whenever we can! I remember doing a custom pineapple cinnamon margarita during the Yelp event and was excited to have it again. We were there during happy hour and were told any of the drinks not in boxes were available for HH prices. Unfortunately, the Patron and pineapple marg was in a box but the bartender was able to do house tequila with the pineapple and cinnamon for the HH price! My husband also got a mezcal old fashioned and that was fabulous, I'd recommend it! The chips are thick and crispy, the salsas are made with fresh ingredients, and the mango salsa is always my fave. I got the seared tuna taco and shrimp and bacon taco. The shrimp and bacon was fabulous, the only downer of both tacos was the amount of sauce on them overpowered the meat flavor. The sauce on the tuna taco was mayo heavy, I wouldn't get the tuna taco again. My husband's carnitas taco was so good! I'll get that next time. The service is super quick, we ordered, ate, and had our check within an hour. The drinks are strong! Be prepared for that. Authenticity score is 5/10. I can't believe I haven't updated my review after returning to hook and lime at least a handful of times! We've made this our family go to spot when guests are visting for the series, or for the holidays. My last few visits have been tremendously better! I've had a variety of tacos, plates, and desserts. The chips and salsa trio is fantastic, and their breakfast tacos were so good. Now that I know the way things roll, it's made the last few visits much more enjoyable. Everyone working is so friendly, and accommodating. They have a great variety of tequilas, and cocktails. This is definitely a must-stop spot downtown. read more

I met with friends before going to a concert at Slowdown. It is the perfect location for that. I got the El Capitan bowl. The grilled shrimp were really special. I really liked it but...it felt like it didn't have as much flavor overall as I had expected. I did not perceive any pickled onions so maybe if it had been made as described on the menu it would have been more interesting. There were 3 of us; one of us got the guacamole to eat as dinner so we all shared. That worked well because the guacamole and chips are really, really good and more substantial than at other places. The $10.50 cost would be a little daunting if dining alone. But they are great for sharing. It is a very generous size. Their guacamole - I don't know if there are a lot of things in it other than the avocados. But wow, they are obviously getting THE BEST avocados. They have a trio of house hot sauces that were good and I am especially intrigued with the really dark one. Super unique. We got the ginger limeade to drink, which is fabulous. It has a sugared rim and it made us think how good it would be with salt instead. THIS is the thought that really makes me want to return. The food was all good, the cost of the sandwiches and rice bowls make them a good value. Honestly though - I didn't really even look at the whole menu, even though it's just a large page. We were invited to Yelp event to try out this restaurant. The service was on point. First we tried the house margarita which was paired with a flight of dips. I was very impressed with the flavors of the salsas, all different and all fresh. The mango salsa was a favorite as was the guac. The chips seemed to be a little hard which I was not fond of, but that is a personal preference. All of the margaritas were fresh maid (hand squeezed juice, house made syrups and well crafted). You can tell if a margarita was made with a mix. These were near perfection. The Blackberry & Lemon margarita was nice and not so overly sweet. The Jalapeño Grapefruit was delicious and had the right amount of heat. Next, they brought out an ample sample of ceviche. It was delicous! Following that, the chef brought out barbacoa on the bone (which it's rumored they will be adding to groups to order). The barbacoa literally fell of the bone. Impressive. It was very flavorful and was part of our next taste: barbacoa tacos. Simply amazing and tender. It was paired with a reposado which was very smooth with a slight hint of vanilla. The final course was desert. They served us up a bowl of arros con leche (rice and mango). It was very satisfying. They paired it with an anjeo, which again was very smooth with a little smoke. My family came to Omaha during a family vacation and saw this restaurant on Yelp. This place sits in a great location pretty close to the riverfront area. The food here was pretty good. Make sure to order the homemade tortilla chips and salsa flight. The tuna tortas were amazing and my husband loved his shrimp and cheese empanadas. My son got the barria tacos and loved them, and my tacos were also pretty good. As for service, the waitress was very sweet and made some great suggestions. The other waiters seemed pretty nice too. By the time it was 6 pm, it was packed and had a 20-minute wait with all of the inside and outside seating full. So, it is a popular spot.
