We ordered the steamed oysters, lobster bisque, and seafood boils. The oysters were just okay. The seasoned garlic butter sauce was good, but I wouldn't get them again. The lobster bisque was average - creamy with minimal lobster flavor. For our seafood boils, I got the scallops and shrimp in the Hook & Reel Special Blend sauce. I asked for spicy, but the spice level was non-existent. My toddler would be able to eat it. My husband ordered the blue crab and shrimp in the mild seasoned garlic butter. The sauce had a lot more flavor than the special blend sauce and ironically more "heat" - just from the copious amount of garlic. If I were to go back, I would get the seasoned garlic butter seafood boil and a different appetizer. The seafood was all perfectly cooked. read more

Stopped into Hook & Reel tonight for their soft grand opening. The outside appearance was very bright and lively and the parking lot was full. Inside was a really cool atmosphere and lots of people. Was seated quickly and staff was super friendly. Ordered the "Over the Top Margarita" and it came out quickly and was REALLY good! Excellent flavor, salted rim, and plenty of alcohol. A complimentary order of "shrimp chips" came out and were unique and tasty. For appetizers ordered the crab fries, and steamed oysters with the 'hook and reel' seasoning. The apps came out quickly and the crab fries were loaded with real crab meat and drizzled in a nice sauce that had a mayonnaise base; and they were nice and crisp. Also ordered a lobster bisque which was very tasty. Tasted like they use crab meat in there as wel The steamed oysters were very good and the seasoning was exceptional and really brought them to life. I ordered the pick your own seafood boil with snow crab and shrimp and the signature 'hook and reel' seasoning. Food arrived and was an awesome presentation, big full bag of freshly steamed and seasoned crab and shrimp with corn on the cob and red potatoes. A friend got the lobster tail basket and it also looked great, and tasted amazing! Succulent lobster which was tender and juicy; so much flavor. The crab and shrimp were coated in the signature seasoning and you can tell the seafood was super fresh. So much flavor and sweet crab, fresh shrimp. There is really no other restaurant like this around here serving such fresh and delicious large portion seafood dishes. For dessert, ordered the cheese cake. It was very good and nice whipped cream on the side. The owners came to the table as well and were the most friendly and engaged people. I've about 15-20 times total and never had a bad experience. Unfortunately my girlfriend is allergic to shellfish so I'm usually solo and don't get to go as much as I'd like which my wallet is happy about but prices are very reasonable considering it's seafood and you get good portions. I usually sit at the bar and service can be kind of slow sometimes, but I'm not in a rush and I know the bar tenders have tables of their own plus making drinks for the whole restaurant, I've tended bar at many places so I know how it goes. If I could afford to eat there every day I would. With that being said I'm about go for my second night in a row lol. Can you guys put showers in? Went Tuesday with a group of friends for happy hour and planned to stay for dinner, girlfriend loved seafood with old bay. They inherited a nice rustic designed building. Happy hour $4 drafts and $5 drinks nice deal BUT they add tax & tip then refuse to give change. 50 cents each round no t going to change life but truly wrong possibly illegal to give change. Tipped extra first round but that was a mistake for service received for rest of our stay. Bartender openly said hated having a crowd and was nasty and vindictive to many of guests. I will not tolerate having anybody barking at my girlfriend and laughable think he will intimidate me. Service got worse but HH Fried with fries was good, the fried Calamari was crappy. There was a nice girl bartender that tried to compensate for the barking vindictive guy but impossible to cover for all the issues by the nasty creature guy. After impossible to order dinner went to hostess/manager to place an order for dinner away from the bar. She also complained about crowd size (25) and reaction to barking bartender. The conversation devolved to smug demeaning attitude and refused to stay. Dinner may of been nice, but question seafood steamed in plastic bags. Best thing about happy hour here is that it is next door to Puerto Vallerte where we were treated wonderfully and enjoyed a delightful and delicious dinner. read more

I've been coming to this place since it's opening and it has gotten better each time. The outside decor doesn't really match the inside (was formerly a black bear saloon type place) but they do have fun Cajun inspired decorations inside and it is very clean. They give you puffy shrimp chips upon being seated and also have a full bar. We come here just for the boils, they come with a lot of food so we usually skip the appetizers. For the boils you can choose between 2 sizes (the smaller one is definitely big enough), then your seafood- they have plenty of choices like shrimp, scallops, crab, etc. All the boils come with potatoes and corn but you can add noodles, broccoli, or sausage to this. Last but not least you pick your sauce which is the best part. You can get traditional Cajun, garlic butter, old bay, or a blend of them all and then you have the option to make it mild, hot, or spicy. The seafood is fresh and delicious. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Overall a very good place for Cajun boils in CT. read more

My spouse's go to for catfish. My major complaint is that restaurant took name and cell phone for take out order and NEVER called me to let me know my order was ready. They weren't crowded and didn't appear to be understaffed as they had one person doing takeout orders while other staff were attending to dine-in customers. I had a great opportunity being able to go on the inside of Hook and Reel. Now since Covid I have been ordering from their takeout and I always enjoy their shrimp basket with sweet potato fries. There are times might find one or two that are not completely cooked but for the most part it is pretty good. I had a chance to go on the inside and order a actual seafood boil, since I have not had one from this location. It comes out in a bag fully suppressed with all the spices with your selected seafoods. Food was very good and tasty although potato could've been one that I didn't have to look at what three times to see if it was spots of beginning to spoil on it with black spots which made me hesitant. They gave you two potatoes and one corn With your food. I selected shrimp and clams and I think they give you an ample amount of food and the sauce is very juicy! I choked on the sauce, which is why it's totally important for the servers to check up on their customers regularly. I believe, between the service and the looks of the desert is only reason it got four stars. I do recommend this restaurant and we'll go back to visit again and try something different. I had never had a seafood boil before and wanted to try one. I decided to place an order to go to pick up after I got out of work. I called the restaurant at 2:45 and placed the order to be ready for 6:30. I ordered the surf's up boil which came with a cluster of crab, shrimp, potato, 1 corn, and a margarita. I spoke to justin, who told me the order will be sent to the kitchen at 6:15 and will be ready at 6:30. I arrived at the restaurant at 6:32 and was told my order would be "just a couple more minutes." I patiently waited. 5 minutes go by... 10 minutes go by.. 15 minutes... and my food still wasn't ready. People had come into the restaurant to pick up orders as well and they were also told "just a couple more minutes." It was about 6:50 when my food order came out. But I still had to wait for my margarita. I waited an additional 5-10 minutes for that. I just didn't understand how my food wasnt ready and I had to wait a half hour when I placed it 4 hours in advance... Justin apologized for the delay and gave me a free appetizer coupon for my next visit. As for the food, I thought it was really good! It definitely satisfied the craving I had to try a seafood boil. From the very beginning of our visit, the restaurant was not full. Therefore with it being fully staffed, there shouldn't have been a wait to be greeted at the table by our server, who did not seem to be moving with purpose during our entire dining experience. There were many lost opportunities where they could have redeemed our experience, for example: 1. Not being punctual with drink order taking. 2. Having to ask for silverware which doesn't arrive to our table until the main course. 3. Receiving wet appetizer plates. 4. As a dine-in order, drink should have been best served in actual glasses instead of paper closed cups. 5. The environmental impact of the waste of this restaurant terrifies me (the plastic straws and plastic bags that the steamed seafood was served in especially) 6. As far as the food, none of the food that we ordered had a distinct taste. In fact, the mild and spicy sauces tasted exactly the same. It was aggressively underseasoned. My clams were rubbery. This place is big & really a beautiful place! Most restaurants I've been to that offer seafood boil, are small & cramped so this was really nice to see. My friend & I got the $50 deal with the snow crab legs & 2 pounds of shrimp. We started getting the sauce on the side whenever we get boils because it's less messy & we can get more sauce on our fish when we dip. We tried the blend and wow I think it's my new favorite, super delicious! We were disappointed in the amount of crab legs, but only because we're used to getting 2 pounds at the normal spot we go to. The fish was very fresh & great. One thing I would mention is that a bit of the shrimp was overcooked and slimy. Probably only because it was in the bag too long while we were eating & was still cooking in the heat. The menu did say we would only get 2 potatoes but I was surprised they threw in about 4 or 5 so that was nice. They give a little bucket with all that you need (bib, gloves, cracker, etc.) BUT missing wipes for when you're done. Oh and please please please add steamed white rice as a side, I love eating my seafood with rice. Overall I give 5 stars for great, fresh food, and quick service. I've been here a number of times and enjoy myself every single time. The staff is kind and courteous and the food is delicious. Tonight for appetizers we had the hush puppies and the fried calamari. Both came out super quick and tasted awesome. There is a good amount of calamari in the basket and we all ate off if it. The kids get a kick out of the gloves and bibs they give out and it does help with all the butter and garlic. Paper tablecloths make for good distraction for the kids to draw on while the food cooks and makes you feel less bad for making such a mess with the crab legs. read more

I waited an additional 8-10 minutes for my dinner to finally arrive. We were checked on by 2 different staff, aside from our waitress which was nice. When we completed our dinner, we waited for 15 minutes to flag the waitress down to ask for the check. It was not a busy time, in fact we were among only 6 tables in the main dining area.
