I've been dreaming about seafood all week. I finally fulfilled my craving when I came to Hook & Reel. I was super excited b/c I've been dying to try this place. I didn't get the chance to try it until now for my birthday weekend! We (my sis,her bf/daughter)were seated right away. Myra(our waitress) was a good vibe & had uplifting energy! I was about to order a boil (different foods) separately but she told me about a deal for only $41.99. It had the same components that I wanted. 2 clusters of crab legs & 1/2 pound of shrimp. It came w/ 2 potatoes & only 1 corn(I was sharing w/ my niece b/c I don't eat much). I ordered an extra side of corn(2 pieces). I ordered the original Cajun sauce & mild spiciness w/ a side of fire sauce. There's 3 levels of spiciness:mild, spicy,& fire. There's many flavors which include:plain, dry(old bay only),original Cajun, garlic butter, seasoned garlic butter, lemon pepper, & a hook & reel special blend. My sister ordered mozzarella sticks for the table. The mozzarella sticks had a descent cheese pull. The crust was crispy & the inside had gooey goodness. Our food came out shortly (didn't wait too long). The boil was extra steamy & hot! The waitress could have been more attentive it's like they were short-staffed. She was @ the bar making drinks as well & she had a couple of tables. I had to go to the bar to get lemons I asked her for. I cannot eat seafood w/o a massive amount of lemons. She gave me a whole bunch so she made up for it. Now that I had my lemon I dug in. I went for the shrimp 1st. The flavor burst into my mouth & I was in heaven! The crab was tender & cooked to perfection! The potatoes tasted like it needed salt & was boiled w/o any. The corn was bigger pieces than what I'm used to. It was sweet & the Cajun sauce added a kick! The staff came over & sang happy birthday to me & my sister's bf. My birthday was 5/29 & his the day after (5/30). That was really sweet! Plus, they gave us cheesecake on the house! The cheesecake had a strange taste to it not sure how to describe it. It wasn't bad though! It just didn't taste like cheesecake I'm used to. Overall, I was totally satisfied w/ my food & def will be back! Misha (another waitress waiting on the table next to us) had to take our payment b/c Myra was busy!

The last stop of my 40th birthday celebration! Decided to come here for some seafood that I have been craving for a long time. The other place we wanted to go to was a bit further away from home some Decided on hook and reel Cajun seafood. Great choice and hit the spot lovely. I ordered the lobster party boil. It came with two lobster tails 2lbs of shrimp, 2 lbs of snow crab legs corn and potatoes! I got the house special sauce and requested it spicey. Plus I added sausage and broccoli. That alone was a mega meal and so worth it! I enjoyed every bit of it. I also got a side of king crab legs. As if what o ordered wasn't enough. But it was my birthday! I also got to try the Cajun chicken wings that my girlfriend ordered with fries. She requested they put Cajun seasoning on the fries which they did. Those wings and fries were really good! We didn't know what to expect but it surpassed the expectation. The waitress was friendly, and the service was quick. Plenty of seating and the ambiance was fairly calm. Not much noise which is nice. Definitely a come back too seafood place for us.

Came here on a date with my bestie! We ordered the reel catch - pick 1/ pick 2.  Not bad at all for 55$ We added more to it. Why not? Lol We had snow crabs, shrimp, crawfish, and a lobster tail.  There were potatoes and corn, and we added eggs and sausage. We tried the mild - with garlic butter seasoning. Literally top 3 greatest meals I ever had! It's an experience like no other! Our server Laura was amazing! Best server I ever had. She was extremely helpful, kind, and attentive. We need more servers like her. It makes the experience complete. The drinks were good too! I had a watermelon tini. The restaurant is awesome looking and very clean. I will 100 percent be back!

How it Comes .. I'm Like what do I do just open and enjoy!

The ambiance was bright and colorful. Worked well for the place but also gave it a "last call kinda feeling I sat at the bar. I saw a bad review criticizing the bartender. So, it took a little bit for him to get to me and he said "apologize for the wait" which fixes it all in my eyes.. genuinely nice guy..so, it wa my first time doing a Cajun boil. I loved it. Go with the hook and reel flavor and hot (it's their middle and not too hot really). I got the pinch me paradise which was a lobster tail, 1/2 pound shrimp (no heads), broccoli ( I added corn- a must). Also had hush puppies which were great a nice cold draft and a rum punch( made from scratch). I loved it and will go back!

Came here on a Saturday for a girls lunch/dinner. First off our waitress (sweet T if I am correct) was FANTASTIC. Her energy her conversation we absolutely adored her and wish she could join us!!! The food was delicious we ended up sharing an order of snow crab, scallops, shrimp, extra potatoes, corn, and broccoli. Nothing was fishy and had a great time!

No. Being located in Connecticut versus New Orleans, Georgia, Florida or Maryland does not give you a hall pass to sell over-priced seafood that is not up to edible standards/fresh. No crab seasoning dusting AT ALL. Crab was freezer burned with grit on the shell. I got the special sauce + the hottest level. Red water. So diluted and devoid of flavor. The "boil" was literally the consistency of water. That's not a boil. They likely have pots of unseasoned water that they ladle in the bag post steaming. So bland, zero love and not at all authentic. Also-- small russet potatoes were not cleaned prior to being cooked whole and are rigid/raw in the center. Over-cooked shrimp. Boil base has ZERO flavor and likely just MSG + coloring. Disrespectful. Wrong potatoes, wrong process, wrong chef, wrong seasonings, aged crab, wrong everything. My meal was 'to go'. If dined in?! Absolutely not. Nope. I would have left it on the table! Trust me-- I'm calling my bank and if they want to FaceTime the food in the trash... fine by me. I can't eat this. There is dirt in the sauce and all of the elements because they did not clean the crab, shrimp + potatoes. There were two rotten potatoes in my bag and freezer burned snow crab clusters... disgusting. Hit "The Boil" in NYC, "Juicy Crab" in MD-- even "Hook & Reel" in Orange, CT. That's where you get real Cajun flavor profiles and actual spice! This restaurant has zero business serving seafood boils. Really, really subpar.

Even though the name (Kawa) and menu have changed a bit over time, the heart of this place has never changed--and that's what keeps us coming back. One thing that truly stands out is that this is a family‑owned restaurant, and you can feel the care, pride, and love they put into their food and service. It adds a level of warmth and authenticity that you just don't get everywhere. Our group ordered a wide range of dishes, and not a single plate was left with food on it. Several guests tried the special fried rice, while one had the chicken fried rice. Everyone loved their meals so much that I even ordered an extra fried rice to take home. We also enjoyed a great selection of sushi, including a few rolls we had never tried before. Their sushi roll prices are the best in the area, yet the quality remains consistently excellent. The sashimi we ordered was fresh, beautifully presented, and did not disappoint. One guest ordered the noodles with shrimp and said it was the best they'd ever had. To top it off, the restaurant has a surprisingly wide variety of Asian beers at very reasonable prices. The beers we tried were a big hit with the group and paired perfectly with the food. The service was another highlight of the night. Our waiter was wonderful--attentive, friendly, patient, and on top of everything our large party needed. Managing a group of 14 isn't easy, but he handled it flawlessly and made us feel well cared for. My fiancé asked him a lot of questions on some of dishes and he was very knowledgeable. After more than a decade of visiting, this birthday dinner reminded me exactly why this place has remained one of our family favorites. Delicious food, great prices, warm service, and the heart of a family‑owned business that truly values what they do. Highly recommend for both special occasions and everyday meals. There is plenty of parking for a big party and lots of space inside. They were packed and it was 5 days before Christmas.

Although I don't typically dine out for soul food, my water was shut off due to maintenance on the outside pipes. Since it was Sunday and I usually cook Sunday dinner, I chose to visit Sandra's after hearing such high praise and wanting to try their menu. Upon arrival, I realized it doesn't particularly stand out, but there is a menu outside to review before entering. The restaurant is small, predominantly a takeout spot. I ordered the Pork Chop dinner, with sides of Collard Greens and Macaroni and Cheese. My son had the Ribs with Macaroni and Cheese and Rice, and my daughter selected the Fried Chicken, Macaroni and Cheese, and Collard Greens. I also picked up a side of Sweet Potatoes and Fried Fish. The Fried Fish was underwhelming in flavor, with a slimy breading. I prefer my fish fried until very crispy, and although it looked crispy, it needed a bit more time. The Sweet Potatoes were good but could benefit from a touch more sweetness. When I opened my Pork Chop dinner, I was surprised to find only one pork chop, especially given that the dinner costs twenty dollars and pork is typically an affordable meat. I would expect two pork chops for that price. The Mac and Cheese was decent--cooked well but lacking the deep, savory richness I seek. The Collard Greens, however, were excellent; cooked perfectly and absorbed the rich flavors of their broth and seasonings. My children found the food to be okay, rating it around 2.5 to 3 stars. There is also a refrigerator with desserts and homemade juice drinks. Overall, the staff and environment were friendly.

I was dining with my two children, my 11-year-old son and my 4-year-old daughter. During our meal, when our server approached to take drink orders, my four-year-old daughter specifically requested a "blue drink." The server noted this request and subsequently delivered a beverage matching the description. After my daughter had consumed a significant portion of the drink, she commented that it tasted funny. Out of an abundance of caution, I tasted the drink myself and was immediately alarmed to detect the distinct presence of alcohol. I promptly brought this critical issue to the attention of our server, explaining my grave concern that my four-year-old child had been inadvertently served an alcoholic beverage. To my dismay, the server initially dismissed my concerns, asserting that she had personally witnessed the bartender prepare the drink and that it contained no alcohol, further suggesting my daughter could continue consuming it. Given the unmistakable taste of alcohol, I reiterated my certainty and insisted that she re-verify with the bartender, even offering for her to smell the drink herself. It was only after this insistence that she consulted the bartender, who then confirmed that the beverage did indeed contain alcohol. The gravity of this situation rapidly escalated. Due to my daughter's consumption of alcohol and her subsequent physical discomfort, I was compelled to contact emergency services. Both paramedics and law enforcement officers responded to the scene. My daughter was then transported to the hospital, where medical professionals confirmed she was experiencing alcohol intoxication, described as being "tipsy." The incredulity expressed by the attending police officers regarding a four-year-old being in such a state underscored the profound negligence and potential danger of this incident. This experience has left me profoundly shaken and outraged. The fact that a child could be inadvertently served an alcoholic drink in a family restaurant is, in my view, an inexcusable breach of safety protocols and trust. This entire horrifying ordeal was entirely preventable with proper communication, attentiveness, and rigorous adherence to responsible service practices. I am now left with a deep sense of mistrust regarding the safety of beverages served to children, and I urge your establishment to conduct an immediate and thorough review of your procedures to ensure such a catastrophic oversight never occurs again.
