I joined to swim, and the pool itself is excellent. The problem is what happens right before people get in: no one showers. I've seen people go straight from the basketball court, still schvitzing, into the jacuzzi (ew!). I've even seen lifeguards hop in without rinsing off. When even the referees aren't following the rules, as stated on the sign there, it's not a great sign. All this isn't exactly appetizing. I've lived abroad and traveled quite a bit, and there's a cultural aspect to this. In France, skipping the pre-swim shower is unthinkable. In Iceland, someone actually supervises your scrub-down before you're allowed into the hot pots. In Mexico City, where I swim in a private gym akin to the JCC, it's definitely enforced. In Japan--forget about it. I've raised this three times with Steve Miller, the director of health and wellness. His view is that they add enough chlorine to kill the germs and that people should know better, but there's no real way to enforce it--lifeguards need to watch the pool, not police showering. (Though they do other distracted things like testing the water.) His proposed solution has been new signage--but who knows when? And I'm skeptical a sign will succeed where social norms have failed. It comes down to education. Most people in the pool where caps, for instance. Why? That's what they were told. So, why not tell them to shower? It's simply a matter of priorities, which this doesn't seem to be. Maybe I'm the only one who cares--based on the evidence, that might be true. But for a place that does so many things right, this one issue, for me, is hard to ignore.

Very spacious and clean pools. About 50-100 tanning lounge chairs to choose from. Very attentive lifeguards. Snack bar is available as well. A diving pool, Olympic pool, swimming lanes, adult section, and various feet of water to swim in. This is all included when you pay the one time fee for the day. So sad I only learned about them towards the end of the summer! They close on Labor Day. Will definitely make it a staple to come back next summer.

I don't drive so I took the LIRR from Penn Station (it cost 18.50 round trip on the weekends)! There is a shuttle that is provided from the station to the venue however since 90 percent of visitors drive, the shuttle from the train station is few and far between. Room an Uber for 10 dollars. The drive was short 5-10 minutes. The check in process was soooo smoothe. Way smoother than previous years. Since we had Vip passes we received a neat goodie page upon arrival. The venue iS HUGE! So well done picking this as the new location. So much SPACE. I legit took 292939339 pictures! Everything was so beautiful. Be prepared to walk and spend at least an hour. Some photo opps expect a short line but other than that smoothe sailing. On our way back, we took the FREE shuttle ( which is a yellow school bus). Please let the driver know you are going to the train station as it's no an expected stop. Highly recommend this festival. Beautiful venue

There are discounted ticket prices available for children, seniors and students. - Ticket includes access to everything on the grounds except the speciality house tours available for purchase at selected tour times. - Large parking lot available - There is a lot of ground to explore, so preferably wear comfortable shoes. - Only one small cafe on the grounds - Bathrooms are located in the Old Westbury House When you finally get into the perimeters of Old Westbury Gardens, you will see that there is truly so much to explore. OLD WESTBURY HOUSE You can walk in for free to look at some parts of the home. They still do require you to wear masks inside and will provide you if you do not have. This is one of the few places where you will find restrooms to use, so definitely utilize it before you leave. It can be closed for 30min during lunch hr. As for this part of the home, it's pretty much self-guided. There are staff members inside for any questions. There are words that you can read displayed on the exhibits. There is another portion of the home which is only available through a separately paid speciality tour. THE OUTDOOR GROUNDS The outdoor grounds is a majority of the attraction. There are places like the Walled Garden, Rose Garden and Lilac Walk which had tons of colorful flowers to admire. There were places like the pool, lakes and ponds which offered nice water views. Occasionally, you can see ducks and geese in their natural habitat. There were places like the Allee which had beautifully designed gates and perfectly lined trees so symmetrically in place. On top of that, there were a bunch of human sculptures placed all over the grounds, which appeared so realistic that something you can actually mistaken them for real people. I loved the outdoors. You can truly get some great exercise in walking the entire acre of this place. You can take in all the great views all around and take some nice photos for memories along the way. It's a really nice place to spend your day and take as long or as short as you want. My parents and I truly took our time and spent a couple of hours there and we all enjoyed our time here.

Now I'm wondering why I traveled 5 hours out of New York to pay for an underwhelming experience compares to Old Westbury which is less than an hour away with more to see at half the price. My friends and I found ourselves at Old Westbury Gardens as a spontaneous destination. With fading daylight and the impending realization that we were not gonna make the cut-off time for pick your own berries, we decided to find an attraction nearby that was affordable yet worthwhile. And Westbury Gardens is just that. For $18pp, you have access to the gardens, the mansion, and the surrounding areas that feature hidden statues, gazebos, and pools. There is more than enough to walk through and you can spend 2+ hours here. My friends and I came end of August and were able to enjoy the flowers in the garden and walk around with the perfect weather. My favorite part of the place was the "temple of love" that is a little further off the beaten path. If you're bored and looking for something to do, Westbury Gardens is a great destination. An easy way to be in the shoes of 20th century American aristocracy and feel rich (or poor!) for a day.
