On a cool spring day, my family decided to take the dogs for a walk. We wanted to go to a dog friendly park with a view of some water. North Hempstead Beach Park seemed to fit the bill as there are signs explicitly stating that dogs are welcome. The park is filled with the following: Playground for young kids Playground for older kids Basketball courts Volleyball courts Softball field Beach volleyball courts Handball courts Kayaks for rent Beach Perhaps it was early in the season, but most of the buildings and services were closed. There was a small fence closing off the beach. The park looked clean and well maintained. Our dogs loved walking up and down the main path, meeting and greeting other dog friends. There weren't too many people there, but I imagine as the weather improves, this place will get packed.

Generally when I go to a beach, it's usually ocean front - this was bay/sound side. Being Fourth of July and the forecast being a little sketchy, I headed out early to explore. Most parks on Long Island charge a $10 fee, which is fine but this is the first time I had an option - $15 cash or $10 credit card. I hesitated and had to double check I heard that right. It's usually the other way around, cash is less than credit card. I charged it lol The park needs some TLC beach is nice and actually a nice size, but with the weather being iffy it wasn't crowded. Facilities are available but needs updating - the one we used only had one functioning sink and the push button was broken off. Some of the fencing was broken or rusted. None of the snack bars were open. Paths were in disrepair. The park had a lot of groups who were bbq'ing, which was nice too see and plenty of people fishing, although I didn't see anyone catching anything. I guess if you're a local it's an okay option, but I'll stick to the south shore beaches.

We went there first time for Memorial Day fireworks. We avoided Jones beach because of the crowd. We got there 6:30 pm. Parking no problem. $10 cash parking for resident or not. It was advertised $7 if paid with credit cards but when we got there, cash only. Pro: - Close to Queens - Small beach. Everything is close by. - three bathroom facilities. One concession stand selling hot food - children playground - Live band for the event. It's loud enough to hear throughout the whole beach - plenty of grass area/ concrete area if you don't want to get sand in your shoes. - ice cream truck parked by bathroom. Of cause there was a line. No other food trucks seen. - time getting out of parking lot after fireworks wasn't too bad. Police directing traffic. - fireworks were awesome! Star, hearts , smilie faces...and live band background music! Con: - there were trash but not a lot. Torn up plastic with occasionally a plastic cup. I didn't see any cigarettes butts. My son did dig up a broken wooden table leg. - Rocky beach. Not comfortable for my toddler to walk barefeet - thumb down for concession stand. No price on menu. Doesn't matter what menu said, they only had hamburger, cheeseburgers $10, pretzel bread $3, hotdog $5 , coffee $2, soda, water, bagged chips. Service was super slow. They use single coffee pot ( like the one you use at home) to brew coffee. People buying coffee due to cold windy weather at night. Took 10 minutes for them to bring Pretzels from the kitchen. The line moved slowly and more wait time for the food. - Long line for ladies bathroom. Slow moving. Conclusion: Will definitely return. Only drawback for me is the beach is too rocky. But the ease to get to and short distance from parking lot overcome the drawback.

With some great company and your dog, if you have one, you can have a really nice time at this beach/park! It's well-maintained and clean. There are volleyball courts on the sand, tables to enjoy a picnic-style lunch, a playground for the kids, and wide grassy and sandy areas to enjoy! Just heed the pebbly area closest to the water - it's a bit painful on the feet. Beach area's sand is fine, not painful texture-wise but does get hot, as it does at any beach. While dogs are allowed at the park itself, they are not allowed on the beach. That's understandable for sanitary purposes. Our dog still had a blast running in the grass and walking the main path along the beach. And he made some doggy friends in passing! The ability to be social with other pups makes this a great place for dogs - different from the dog park because you've got access to a sandy beach (assuming you are with someone who can stay with your dog while you're at the beach area), and it's got a very peaceful atmosphere. It's $10 to enter if you're a Nassau resident, $20 if you're not. Either way, worth it for a relaxing beach/park day.

This beach has courts, ball fields, restrooms, docks, volleyball nets, benches, water fountains and more.

After seeing signs up i knew who could refuse a good greek night out.. so we went This was a great location super huge so you really didnt feel like one was ontop of each other... plenty of games for young and old alike. So fun rides There was alot a lot of little vendors selling different items. Live music! There was the one game i played it was ring toss $5 gets you 18 rings. If your ring lands on a bottle of wine you get some wine. You get. A bottle! I won 2 bottles that made my night We had food near the huge line that moved rather quickly. ( thanks for having a really good organization!). I ordered chicken souvlaki platter came with salad fries chicken tzaziki and pita bread. Delicious! How could i not refuse dessert i ordered galaktoboreko so light and delicious and we tried these sweet cheese lil empanada sized food. Which had sugar coated on the outside delicious! Wish i could go back again for more entertainment but i have two other events happening this weekend Saturday night has fireworks!

Italian Festival. Sausage and peppers hero. Yum!!!

Nice little spot to just sit back and "enjoy" the scenery (and by scenery I mean the big power plant that takes away from the "beachy" atmosphere). I came here for the Italian festival. They had rides and games for the kids and of course they had food (honestly that was the only reason why I came). After walking around the entire festival (which took roughly 8 minutes) I decided to sit by the beach (there really wasn't much else to do). It had a very nice layout but the beach area sucked. I understand that it's a man made beach but OMG, could the sand area get any smaller. You can literally take 5 steps across the sand and your toes will be at the shore (I'm 5'3" with short legs so you can imagine how small it has to be). The scenery has the potential of being very serene and relaxing minus the power plant (I'm assuming thats what that is) F***ing up the view. I wouldn't dare attempt to swim in the water. Might get stung by a radioactive jellyfish or bit by a mutant catfish. Overall: It's one of those "Look but don't touch" beach and I enjoyed it for what it is. Might return.

As far as north shore parks go, this is by far the ugliest. Nestled along side Hempstead Harbor in Port Washington, you're treated to views of a power plant... How nice. I wouldn't want to lay out on the beach either since there's a large yellow sewage pipe on the southern edge of the beach. Here's where it gets interesting, parking is $10 if you're paying cash but $7 if you use your Visa or MasterCard. Seems ass-backwards to me. Usually paying cash is cheaper seeing as the vendor isn't charged fees. What ever. Not a nice place to visit at all.

Nice local beach. $20 to park if your not a resident is pretty steep. Bands play right beyond the beach. Older crowd.

They also have sports areas, like basketball, skateboarding, and handball courts and I understand that they will be putting in pickle ball courts too.
