I haven't been to Hoopla in a while because my last experience was average. I decided to give them another try only to be disappointed again. My experience was very average. The girl doing my pedicure was VERY slow. I noticed two pedicures were nearly completed before mine. I told the receptionist and she said she's new and was dismissive about it. If they are going to put a new person on the floor, they need to make sure she is actually ready. If she is still in training, they need to give the client a discount and inform them the pedicure might be longer than normal. It was not the technicians fault, it was the studios fault. Very sanitary. All new tools are used just for you. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. Most of the manicurists are talkative if you want to talk, or they will let you revel in silence. I rarely need N appointment during the workday. I make an appointment for after work and weekends. I have not had a massage here, but the pedicures and manicures are well worth it. I do a natural nail, so I can't speak to the acrylic or gel nails offered. I also have not tried the fancy paint beyond a solid color. read more

Not sure why everyone is so rude here. I booked a dip soak off and mani pedi. The system someone booked for two people even though I had just booked the apt for one person and it was just me, and that somehow seemed to be my fault. Also, no one greeted me, and I had to ask for color selection. I had gel on my toes and apparently that was a big deal even though coming for a pedi has never been an issue at any other nail salon? The pedicurist snapped at me and said "you have to tell us these things before coming in" and didn't talk to me for the rest of the apt other than short commands about where to put my feet. I'm super disappointed with the pedicure service I received today. I've had a pretty rough go of it recently and was really looking forward to this appointment. I even booked a sitter to stay with my 11 month old. The amount of prep it took for me to get away for 45 minutes was ridiculous. The tech was pretty curt to me from the get go and was "silently" mouthing things to the tech next to her. It was either about me or the worker up front. I couldn't make out what she was saying, as she obviously thought I was listening to something on my phone. Also, I received the shortest massage I've ever had during a pedicure, which is my absolute favorite part. The nail color looks great and she did a good job on my cuticles. I've been here a few times now. I like that you can book an appointment in advance and you don't have to wait. Today though my technician made me bleed and also stepped out to take a phone call. The phone call wouldn't have bothered me as I get that urgent things come up but then she was on the phone a second time during my service. Seemed super unprofessional and this place is just too expensive for that type of service. I loveeee Hoopla in Fairway. Neighborhood spot that is my absolute favorite for a pedi. They are so gentle and kind to your feet. I highly recommend going for a CLEAN and beautiful pedi. Plus their polish is cruelty free and clean - for polish. I also absolutely love Bobbi for a spray tan. If you need a pop of color for an event or just to feel good over the weekend Bobbi is your girl. Also it is a quality and affordable spray tan lasting a week (at least!). The reason I give it 4 stars is because I wish I could get manicures there but they do not offer a harder polish or gel option. They just have a traditional (like pedicure). Which is great but I am hard on my hands and the "regular" kinds of polish tend to chip quickly on me. read more

This is a serene, hygienic, well-run salon business that allows on-line appointments--customers avoid waiting, enter payment online and use on succeeding visits. My shellac manis have been beautiful, gentle and thorough--and I'm tough on my hands (gardening, house chores, riding horses). Gentle work on cuticles, gentle removal of previous color. Love the selection of 'summer' nude polish colors! Very, very pleased with service (2 diff nail techs). Parking can take a minute or two, but I don't really care that much. Booked an express pedicure thinking this would be like most basic pedicures (which usually last about 30 minutes in my experience) - exfoliation, lotion, nail trim/shaping, cuticle treatment, and polish. The menu said this was a 30 minute service, but it was actually 10 minutes - a quick trim, shaping, cuticle cut and I was out the door. I don't actually wear my polish on my toes, so this was actually less than what I even do at home and it was more than twice the price of a regular polish change. The salon is nice, clean, comfortable. The staff was nice, and didn't try to upsell me, but I was very disappointed with the price and what was included in the service. For years I have been dreaming of a modern, high end concept nail salon in Kansas City. When I heard about Hoopla, I anxiously awaited the opening. They take reservations online, so I made an appointment for me, my sister and my mom on a Wednesday. I was leaving the country on Thursday and my mom and sister had a wedding shower to attend on Saturday. We all needed our nails to look great. I never received a confirmation on my appointment after I booked online. Although the site required all three emails, only my mom received a confirmation. Although I emailed them a day before checking on my appointment, I never got a response. We all went anyway. Entering the space, it was very much as I pictured- clean and modern. On the right are all the private label polish colors. However, they also do gel nails, using CND brand. My mom and I had booked mani gels and my sister had a regular polish pedi. My sister was taken in for her pedi right on time, but mom and I waited for about 15 minutes up by the front desk. There were two girls behind the front desk, they just stared out the window and we were never offered a drink. I asked if the owners were in the house and they mumbled something about them being downstairs because they had a lot to do. I don't know, I am thinking if it was the first week of my salon in business, I would be at the front of the house checking to see if everything was running smoothly. My mom and I were finally called back for our appointments. It is important to note here that all mani's are dry. This means no soaking your hands or cuticles. Although that is recommend in the industry for gel nails, if i was getting a regular mani, I would not prefer this process. No cuticle cream is as effective as soaking your nails, period. The interesting part of my mani was that the UV light only came on for a couple seconds at a time. When I asked if this was supposed to be happening, my tech said that is all they needed. I have never seen anything like that before and I think was the root cause of my soon to be problem. Mom and I were both disappointed that they only had a handful of the CND colors. If you are only going to carry one brand, where are all the colors? The red I usually use in CND was not in house. I picked some hooker red, which would later, be my fatal misstep. Cut to Barcelona, 2 days later. I have a giant chip on my thumb nail and my index finger is also showing wear. Yes, I said chipped. In the 2 years I have been doing gel nails, they have peeled, but I have never seen them chip....on the 3rd day, no less. the next day, I peeled off the rest of my thumb polish (see pic) because it looked so bad, particularly in red. This was really awesome, because now i am in Paris, fashion capital of the world. By London, I was on a mission to find the mall and fix my situation. 53£ later, I could enjoy my vacation again. BTW, the London manicure just stared peeling and it has been 20 days. I emailed my mom to check on her nails and all her nails were chipped by the wedding shower, which I am sure was a great look in a room full of women. She was not happy. My sister had a regular pedi and was happy with her service. I complained about my manicure on Facebook and some other friends chimed in saying they have heard the same story (about chipping nails) from other friends who have had their nails done at Hoopla. The prices here are higher then the other nail salons I have tried. Trust me, I am willing to pay higher prices for a higher experience, but the best part of Hoopla is the decor. Gel nails are expensive for a reason- they last for weeks! Gel nails at Hoopla last for 3 days and that's no deal. Honestly, if I had been in town, I would have walked back in and asked for a refund. I went in for a 45 minute shellac manicure for my birthday as I only had about an hour to spare. It says on the menu that a shellac manicure is 45 minutes. It took the technician 45 minutes to take off my shellac polish from my last manicure. It was almost as if she didn't know what she was doing and kept blaming the place that did my previous manicure, nor did she have the proper tools. I can assure you it has never taken any place 45 minutes to take off polish, regardless of where I got my nails done. I told the lady I had to leave in 16 minutes and she said there was no way she could finish in that time. I then was charged $20 for basically nothing as there is still shellac on my nails. Express Pedicure is actually a polish change. Was told it was a 30 minute procedure but my husband was in the seat for less than 10 minutes since he did not need polish or cuticles cut. 4 stars is certainly not an insult. I was very pleased with my experience. I take one star away for comfort of the pedi stations. I am no spring chicken and climbing up on the big banquette was a little scary. I've never had a pedi before, so maybe they are all like that but getting up was one thing, getting down was really scary. The attentiveness of the staff is great, they make sure to guide you through the process and are friendly. What got me here is the fact that they autoclave every single item that they can. Things that can't be autoclaved are single use. You even take your mini polish and other implements home with you for touch ups. I think the manicure price of $24 is an absolute bargain. The $40 pedicure will probably not lure me back. I was leary about a pedicure to start with and after climbing up and down, it's a definite no for future visits. Walk-ins welcome, but they also take appointments. Easy access at the Fairway Shops. I see this place staying in business for a long time. I found Hoopla when I made an impulse decision to try lash extensions Didn't know anything about the place or extensions. Booked online for later that same day and Bobbie did my first set of lash extensions. I hoped the extensions would enhance my look, not look like there was some 50 legged insect on my lids. ‍ Bobbie nailed it and made sure I knew how to care for them. Hoopla is fine. I'm conflicted on this rating, but I just can't bring myself to reward more than 3 stars. Pros: Great location in Fairway, plenty of skincare items for sale, and a variety Hoopla polish colors to choose from. They let you take home the full-size nail files that they use on your nails at the end of the appointment - bonus points for cleanliness. I also appreciated the ease of making an appointment with their online booking system. Cons: Not all of the manicure stations were stocked with the necessities. There was a woman sitting next to us that had to wait for her gel manicure because all of the UV lamps were in use (there were 4 of us at the manicure bar). It was also quite expensive - We each paid upwards of $50 for a simple shellac manicure. There are many other nail salons in KC where you can get more bang for your buck - our nails began chipping two days later. I might be back to Hoopla, but then again I might not. read more

I like Hoopla in Fairway very much. It's clean and I appreciate that they use new utensils and files every time, each person. I typically get an express Pedi bcz I just like the basic cut, file and color. Sometimes l get the Pedicure Buff to Shine so it's a full pedicure with buffing instead of polish. The other nice thing that is helpful is the online appointment schedule. I find it very convenient. read more

I have been going to the Hoopla in Fairway for at least 5 years. The customer service is excellent. Their polishes are healthy, certified by PETA and vegan. Their spa is spotless, with stainless steal tubs and no jets. All of their staff are great, but I'm partial to Denali for my pedis. read more

I really liked the cleanliness of the business and quality of polish. The front desk staff was friendly and gave me information on potentially booking my bridal party here. The variety of services were appealing and its proximity to my home convinced me to try this salon. However, I was disappointed with my nail tech. She made me feel like I was an inconvenience for booking an appointment with her, and that she wanted to be anywhere but there. The place was clean and cute and I would come back. However, I didn't love the service. Went in with a bridal party to get our nails done and they refused to give any of us gel manicures because it was "super busy and they would take too long". They even refused to give the bride a gel manicure which I think was a huge flaw on their part, especially since there was only one other client in the place the entire time we were there! The pedicures here are top notch but you will pay more for one. The tools are all sanitized before each client, you get to keep your polish for touch ups and the extra TLC for your feet/legs from the service provider are definitely a great reason to spend a little more. If you can spare another 15 minutes, be sure to have a chair massage from Rebekah. She'll let you melt away and disappear within seconds of placing your face in the cradle. I cannot imagine a better way to let your toes dry! Be aware that this is not a "chop shop" walk in nail place. It is more upscale and they do pay more attention to detail (and cleanliness) than your neighborhood nail salon. read more

I noticed that many of these reviews were written not long after Hoopla initially opened its doors. You have to give any new business some time to work out the kinks. That being said, I met the owners (one was VERY pregnant & due any day, which explains her absence & any resulting pressure on her biz partner thereafter) soon after and they were lovely. Still are. And the main front desk manager, Kaylee, has come to know me by name and is always going out of her way to address my concerns and try to fit me in. My favorite massage therapist is Rebekah. She knows where I store my stress and she is kind and always makes sure I am comfortable and the pressure is appropriate. I've also had several manis and I think 2 pedis there and was very pleased. What I love is that when I walk in--everything feels/smells/looks and is SUPER CLEAN (no chemicals in their polishes, no jet tubs harboring mold, mildew, bacteria of all kinds), and no powerful odors knocking me down when I walk in the door. NEW. FRESH. WELL MAINTAINED. Did I mention CLEAN??? You get to keep your own personal nail file, buffer, cuticle stick, and polish (even if you do separate colors on your hands & feet!). Everything else is cleaned in an autoclave and not just plunked into some cup of blue water for the next customer. I'm sold on Hoopla. While I agree private massage rooms are not fully insulated against the noise, if you're relaxed enough, you won't notice or care, and if you go early in the morning or ask for a time of day when it's not busy, you'll be better off. This shop is super friendly and therefore they got a star for that. I went in for a lash tint and the room was very comfortable and Bobbie put me at ease. The problem is that the tint did not even show! It was supposed to be black and my eyelashes are light brown. Did not turn black!
