Every year, they continue to make small upgrades that improve the experience, which keeps us coming back. The beach area is fantastic - soft sand, no steep drop-offs, and tons of water toys for all ages. Our toddlers loved playing with the sand toys, our smaller kids couldn't get enough of the lily pad and water trampoline, and the teens had a blast paddle boarding and riding water bikes. Huge bonus: life jackets are available for kids as young as two! The cabins have that cozy, knotty pine charm and - since 2024 - each one now has its own strong WiFi. But what we love most is that there are no TVs, which means more family time, less screen time, and memories made together. Booking was super easy thanks to the resort's online availability search. Communication was excellent - I received updates via email and text - and online check-in made arrival day a breeze. Our cabin was even ready well before the 4 PM check-in time. I found the online booking process to be easy and I booked a room facing the courtyard. I thought the courtyard was going to be an outdoor space. When I arrived to check in, I found that the courtyard is indoors, where breakfast is served, tables where folks gather to eat and meet, and large comfortable chairs and sofas on which to relax. However, these rooms have their room windows facing this courtyard, very close to the bed inside. I didn't really feel comfortable with this arrangement. The gentleman at the counter graciously moved me to a room upstairs and on the outside away from all the noise and the bustle. It was perfect! I found the room to be clean although the whole hotel I believe is over 30 years old. Bed was comfortable and I was delighted to find Beekman 1802 soaps and lotions in the bathroom. (These products are made with goat milk, and are very gentle and non-irritating to the skin, which I love!). The breakfast was the typical hotel breakfast bar with the addition of some delicious cheesy hashbrowns. I loved sitting in the courtyard for my meal and then just relax in the comfy chairs later in the day. There is a pool which was filled with kids, but not annoying at all. One thing to note is that if you have a room facing the courtyard, it is bound to be noisy. There are balconies in the second floor rooms and there were quite a few groups of people getting together for different reasons. So this is a great option if you are traveling with a large group of people and want to easily hang out together. Each and every person at the front desk, I interacted with was friendly, outgoing, and accommodating. I think for me this is the best place to stay in Park Rapids, with perhaps two other options for hotels in this town. I will definitely come back and stay here without any hesitation.

Dan and Cheryl Howland were very friendly as they placed us in the most modern and natural finished, spotlessly clean, and well outfitted 2 bedroom cabin right at the water's edge. The canoes, kayaks and water bikes were there for the using, next to the pier and park-like setting with enormous old pine trees. For those looking for a little less rough hewn and less sandy resort with great acomodations, natural finished interiors on beautiful waters at the edge of a bustling beautiful town, then look no further. It's a great place to chill at a modest price, and it would be a great home base for further explorations.

If it had been 10 degrees higher during the humid daytime, I would have been not so happy. All in all, this was a WONDERFUL, organized, lovely, beautiful, kind, delicious, clean, fun, unique and stress free (as possible) experience for myself and my immediate family. BUT, if you are looking for a comfortable and quiet place to sleep that is within walking distance of fun places along a beautiful lake and you don't mind that it is outdated (in a charming sort of way), minimalistic, small, and basic, then this place would suit you quite well. And the prices are pretty decent (i.e., you get what you pay for). A few things: they leave you only one roll of toilet paper (maybe ask for an extra when you check in, I be prepared to ask for more), there is NO shampoo in the room, there is no alarm clock (most of us have cell phones or other devices that have alarms, though), no phone. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would probably go back.

The room is rectangle in shape and the only overhead light is at the end where the clothes rack is. The shower is kind of cheap and not comfortable to move in. I love how the TV actually shows you what you are watching, a first. I love the outer decor and how it's only 2 stories and everything is so close. It's fancier in MT but still nice. Because of the layout rooms are in close proximity and I think some little kid was trying the door next to the TV. It almost would have been worth it if they got in and saw us. Also check your door at the end that goes into the hall. Ours wasn't locked. The folks at the desk were great. If you can take a super soft mattress and average shower, do stay here.

We have spent a week in late summer in Park Rapids, MN on Long Lake for a decade; and, this week we…read morestayed at Cedar Shores Lodge & Resort for the first time. It was a WONDERFUL experience. I'm a bit of a glamping kind of lady and the cabins at Cedar Shores are log homes away from home. Everything was clean and even the comforters were freshly laundered. Our family stayed in cabin #6 and it has a beautiful deck with a fantastic view and direct access to the beach. They supplied the water toys to include kayaks and canoes. The beach was cleaned every morning by Louis, one of the family proprietors. If we needed anything, Juanita or Louis was right there for us. They care about their guests and give their property TLC. We hope to spend many more weeks in late summer at Cedar Shores!
