A Different Perspective "Baby at the Bar"…read more I'd like to offer a little perspective on what happened recently involving a young employee at The Sandbar & Grille in Fort Myers. From what I understand, a couple was originally seated at a table and later moved to the bar. While the employee was busy, she looked up and noticed that there was a baby being held at the bar. Her comment was essentially, "Baby at the bar." Somehow, that innocent observation was apparently taken as a rude or insulting comb bmcj ment. The customer became upset and left. What makes this especially unfortunate is that the employee herself was confused about what had just happened and never had the opportunity to explain what she meant. A simple, "What did you mean by that?" could very likely have cleared up the entire misunderstanding. Instead, a few weeks later, that incident resulted in the employee losing her job. I'm not posting this to attack the customer, the manager, or the owner. I simply believe that an honest misunderstanding, especially one involving a comment that can reasonably be interpreted in more than one way, should be investigated and discussed before someone's employment is ended. The employee deserved the opportunity to tell her side of the story. A misunderstanding should not automatically be treated as intentional disrespect. Sometimes, before we judge someone, it's worth taking a moment to simply ask, "What did you mean?"
