How difficult can an employee be? Our female server was rude, forgetful, and had not a stich of friendly personality in her. The business itself has a ridiculous policy on Wednesday for its special: one 16 inch pizza with 3 toppings and two drinks. We ordered half 3 toppings and the other half 2 toppings, yet they say 3 toppings total. In our opinion, this is 1.5 toppings on one side and 1 topping on the other saving a half a topping. But no. The rudest employee I have ever encountered said we couldn't do that. We had four people at our table. A couple walked in 15 minutes after we ordered and got their pizza first. A second couple walked in a half hour after we ordered and got their pizza before we did. I'm not sure what we did, but being treated terrible does not make for a good meal. If you're looking for great pizza in the Nekoosa area, Romano's is the place! I have been there a couple times when I'm in the area for work. The pizza comes out hot and delicious. The crust is crisp and tasty. They have a great Wednesday night deal with a 3 topping, 16" pizza and 2 drinks. The service is quick and friendly. There are a couple tables if you want them. But usually we just sit at the bar. It's not too noisy so you can have a conversation. Just a great spot for a hot and delicious meal! read more

I've never had anything here that wasn't very good! My wife and I were introduced to this gem overlooking the northern waters of Lake Petenwell seven years ago and enjoy the very satisfying experience often. More than just really good pizza. Burgers, sandwiches, daily specials, and soups. If you like a generous serving of tender Liver and onions as much as my wife, Wednesdays could become a habit. Although I haven't personally been able to partake in their breakfast menu yet, I know a number of local construction workers and tradesmen say its the best place to go to get your fill and start the day! I once thought that my order was prepared contrary to what I wanted and that I was being overcharged, but they included more than I expected and were so patient with me that when I realized it, I was very grateful and will be a loyal customer for many reasons! read more

The amount of racism you'll encounter at this establishment is ridiculous. Even from the owners themselves. And they have no issue letting it be known. This place is an absolute towney bar; a rural tavern that serves unbelievably fantastic pizza. Don't mistake Romano's for a restaurant; fully-staffed, with a welcoming hostess assigning tables on a first-come first-serve basis. They cater to the regulars, the repeat customers that become familiar to the bartender. They prioritize those who sit at the bar because then, the bartender can cover more ground while pouring drinks and delivering that unbelievably fantastic pizza direct to your barstool. Towney bars have a protocol that demands more than one visit every other summer to understand. NOW, I am a towney bar professional. Even on first visits, I know the protocol. My son was working a college internship at Sand Valley Golf Resort and told me of this unbelievably fantastic pizza he discovered. He and his co-workers had only had their pizzas delivered or someone made the short drive to get carry-outs. I wanted the full experience so we parked and walked in. Several UTVs were already parked - a sure sign of a great towney bar. The bartender yelled over, "tables are straight back." We instead grabbed 2 barstools. "Great," she said as she wiped-down the bar, "you're easier to find here." . 2 pizzas. Cracker-crispy perfect thin crust. Cheese - better than perfect. Sauce - Italian flavors in perfect ratio to the perfect cheese. My son described the pizza somewhere between Salamone's in Fort Atkinson and Tilley's in Beloit. Joey Romano is the ultimate host. He greats everyone and makes you feel welcomed. The pizza is fantastic and the bartender work fast. Joey keeps a constant schedule of fun events that make the place buzzing with people and fun things to do. This is a must see place for visitors and a regular haunt for locals Plus, in the summer they run the outside tiki bar. During lockdown from COVID-19 and really had a craving for a pizza (not frozen) so ordered from Romano's. People seemed very friendly over the phone! Happy to support local businesses especially during these times. Pizza was great and they delivered it right to my car to avoid contact ( be safe out there!) Ordered wings too and both were great and hot the spot!! Don't realize how much we miss eating out and seeing people! Hopefully soon this will be behind all of us. I grew up in Brooklyn, and lived in Chicago for four years. I love pizza, just about any NYC pizza, and only good Chicago Pizza. Romano's has good Chicago pizza. They have excellent deep dish pizza if you are not in a hurry. If you are not in the mood for pizza, try an Italian Beef, or Italian sausage or have both in the Combo.The Romano's are from Chicago and they know what they are doing. Just remember it is not a fancy restaurant, it is your typical Wisconsin tavern. Romano's is located on a beautiful lakeside spot named Devil's elbow. Go slow around the curve marked 15 mph. This place has good reviews for their pizza, perhaps is truly excellent, we never had it, but our experiences with other food has been the opposite, unfortunately. We went a couple years ago to have dinner, and opted for their spaghetti and meatballs, they were the worse we ever had, we couldn't even finish. We left and good we had some chips in the car, because we were hungry. Now that a couple years have passed, we were driving and decided to stop for breakfast after was recommended by some friends, hoping this time would be OK. It was a weekday, around 9:30am (they open at 9am). When we entered the first thing we noticed was the strong smell of cigarette smoke, not a good sign. We were told to seat whenever we wanted, only 3 men sitting at the bar were there, so we sat as far back as possible away from the smell. We ordered our breakfast that came back fast and it was big portions, also cooked well, BUT.... half way done my husband found a hair, that he removed and kept eating, although I said to him to tell the waiter. When I was almost done and ready to eat my last hash browns, I found another hair underneath. I stopped eating and told my husband again to tell, he said... do not bother. We went to pay to the bar and there was one man sitting at a video/slot machine smoking away, trying to hide the cigarette. It was very crowded on Saturday night so we were a little worried about the wait time. Thankfully we got to pick our own seats. The cheese curds with the marinara sauce was terrific. Worst service possible. We ordered a pizza over the phone around 8pm, a large cheese and sausage. They had told us it would be an hour. So we got there at about 9pm and it took 5 minutes for someone to even speak to me. Once they finally did they told me it would be another 20 minutes. We live about 8 minutes away so it's impossible for us to go back home, so we just had to sit and wait. After 20 minutes I go back in and I see a women come from the back to give someone a pizza and plates at the bar. This women sees me standing them, money in hand, and continues her way into the back. We've had the thin crust pizza twice, we ate there the first time and did take out the second. My wife and I really liked the pizza; very good, heavy on the cheese. The Italian combo (Italian beef sandwich with Italian sausage) was just OK. The bread was too light and disintegrated under the weight of the meat once the au jus soaked in. If you are in the mood for a moderately seasoned sandwich and have a fork you'll be OK, if you were looking for your Chicago beef fix then I think you'll be disappointed. I would agree with the other reviewers that the food a long time to arrive; the servers themselves are very friendly but the food seemed to take forever. My kids even commented that they were "not sure our food will ever come". We will definitely be getting pizza here often, to go of course. Cash or check only. I discovered Romano's several months back shortly after moving to Nekoosa while checking out the local eatery scene. Had Hwy Z not been having construction I never would have known about Romano's. It was only because of a banner type sign stating they are open for business that I went there. I am most happy that I did. I have had both their Italian sausage and beef sandwiches covered in cheese which were superb. I was somewhat less enthusiastic about the pizza which I got another time but that is due to having been raised back East under the pizza influence of New York and Philly and I have a marked preference for thicker crust. The pie itself was quite good. My true preference there is for their breakfasts; especially their weekend breakfasts! Without a doubt, my favorite is the #6 on the weekend breakfast menu. This is hashed brown potatoes forming a bed for country fried steak smothered in a homemade gravy with mushrooms, onion and bell pepper topped with two eggs and accompanied by two slices of perfectly done buttered toast! The staff there is beyond reproach and very friendly and accommodating. Most times the cook even comes out to ask me how my food is. This place is one gem that shouldn't be missed. read more

I've been here twice in the last year. During my first visit the pizza was very good but the service was really slow, it took over an hour to get a large pizza. I decided to try Romano's again last night and unfortunately I had the same results. It took over 90 minutes to get two large pizzas. I read the reviews about great pizza, bad service and was skeptical until it was my turn in the barrel. I tried to phone in an order of three large pizzas for takeout for my golf buddies from the nearby Sand Valley golf resort. I called and talked to a woman who said, "It's pretty noisy here, wait a minute." And she put the phone down and never came back. After 15 minutes of listening to bar noise, I hung up. The phone was still ringing busy 15 minutes after that. As it was getting late, I decided to drive into Nekoosa to order in person. Upon arrival, I informed them their phone had been off the hook for at least 45 minutes, which came as a surprise to them. "We've been slammed," the bartender said as he took our order on the cardboard backing of a depleted receipt/order pad. We sat at the bar, based on advice from previous reviewers. We drank a couple Busch Lights and a Corona while we waited. After the promised 45 minutes plus ten had elapsed, I inquired about the pizza and it became clear the order had been lost by a kitchen that had produced almost no food in the interim. We sat there for another 30-40 minutes until the pizzas came out, paid the bill and left. The pizza was superb but you want to bang your head against the bar wondering how such bad service can continue for so long at a place with such great pizza and terrific ambience. Oh, and the ingredients on the pizzas ordered during take two were wrong and it wasn't because it was too noisy. The experience with Romano's was on my mind as I saw a help-wanted sign the next day at a gas station/convenience store just down the road that said, "Must Have a Clue." read more

Have eaten there several times with family and friends, the food is always deep dish pizza is awesome. Chicago style. Are very friendly to family's and good with children. I am a local person an the reviews are right about it being a north woods country style atmosphere.but it is who we are here and the view of the lake is awesome . So if you think your in Chicago well your not, don't expect it. Also we don't charge Chicago or even Milwaukee prices either. So enjoy us and be happy it is who we are here. read more
