This is everything you want out of a bar and grill. All of our burgers came out piping hot, cooked correctly, and clearly came to the table moments after being plated. The fries were a little salty but were so hot and fresh it didn't matter. The staff was friendly and simply did what they were supposed to. The bench seat was comfortable and the table was clean. The only room for improvement was I wish the waitress had told me she was charging me for a full extra side of cheese when I asked for a small sample of their house made cheese. Just went here on Sunday to use my birthday meal for the month of October. Bought some extra apps to treat our table. Got the bill and was then noticed that their "system was down" and they couldn't accept the birthday meal. Also, the manager had been "comping" meals all day and could do any more for the night. Manager also couldn't come out and talk with us or help us with anything. Aka SOL. Our waitress decided to put my meal on her tab and covered it. Which was super nice. We tipped her extra to cover those meals. At the end of the day, terrible customer service when it came to this process. Manager should have been honoring the app all night for those that came in the door. Or at least came to talk to us about it. Felt bad for waitress because she noticed our frustration. There is a huge billboard in Grand Rapids announcing that Hop Cat now has vegan option that even meat eaters will like. Since our party had a vegan and they also had several other options... The billboard worked, and our party picked Hop Cat, even though it was a bit farther away from our hotel than other options. We went in and ordered around the table. When it came time for the vegan to order, he ordered the only vegan option, a Beyond Burger... BUT THE SERVER INFORMED HIM THEY HAVE NOT HAD THIS OPTION IN HOUSE FOR TWO MONTHS. They have a huge billboard advertising this one option they have for vegans and it hasn't been available for two months. And when we expressed dismay, our server said, "hey, i just work here." Otherwise... It took a long time before they even put our order in.. The salads came and the tomatoes were mealy and styrofoam-like. Then the food came. Of four dishes... One burger was alright. The pan pizza looked like a stuffed potatoe skin of sloppy way to much cheese, the fish and chips were overcooked... When we expressed concern, waitress got manager, who came out with a swarmy smirk... And said, "Yeah, how can you say you came here for the vegan food when you all ordered meat..." And tried explaining that because Burger King added the impossible burger it's not available to them any more... So stop advertising it and take it off your menu.. There were three meat dishes ordered and one vegetarian modified to vegan... But rather than address the horrible food or stupid advertising, this guy was trying to play gotchya games with our complaint. My worst possible review... Bad food, horrible management... I'm not one to give bad reviews, but here we are. I came with my family and a few friends to HopCat yesterday before seeing Avengers Endgame. We planned it out perfectly time wise to have our meals eaten and in our seats at Celebration right behind a few minutes to show time. We were seated immediately and greeted fast, after this, it was just not enjoyable. Our server was dull and didn't bring us anything throughout the meal. He seemed confused each time we asked for something, and when we ordered our food, he didn't ask anyone at the table how they wanted their meat cooked, simple restaurant etiquette..the food took 40 minutes and the corn beef was SALTY. My burger was meh, I was happy it was cooked more on the medium well side as that's how I like it, and wasn't asked like I said earlier. We got our bills without a 'thank you' or a 'hope to have you back.' Work for your money people, if you give me stellar service, I'll throw my hard earned cash at you, I promise. Very excited that this location opened as it is out of the downtown area and closer to residence! Be sure to use the NoWait app or utilize it via Yelp if you are going to come in around dinner time or on the weekends. This place get's super busy at night, especially on weekends. The inside is really cool and spacious. They have unique booths as well as tables and a bar area. I haven't visited the patio yet, but since it is getting warmer out now that is next on the list. Beer cap wall is also pretty cool to see (I'll have to get a picture next time). Have been here a few times and think the food is above average (7.5/10). Sandwiches and burger are good and the "cosmic" fries with the dip are a must have (8.8/10)! Service is also usually pretty good and they are very knowledgeable about the beer list (which is pretty hefty). The reuben sandwiches are one of my go-to's! Beer list also has a good variety, but still think that Gravity down the road has a better list consistently. Overall, I'd give this location a 8.5/10 and would highly recommend it! We came here on a Saturday afternoon, it was busy, which typically is an indicator of great beer, food, and service. To our surprise we were utterly disappointed. The wait wasn't terrible, rather it was expected, about 35 minutes quoted and we got a table after 24. When we finally got sat, our table was close to the entrance and anytime someone opened the door whether entering or leaving, we felt a chill blowing our way, so a couple of us sat with our coats on for a long while. There should be some kind of a partition to create a comfortable environment for all guests. It took our server a while to arrive at our table and greet us, however she did not introduce herself, which to me is a red flag. Once she delivered our waters, she took our beer orders, which I would've expected to arrive rather quickly (within 5 mins), but we waited probably more than twice that time. We then placed our food orders and waiting for our plates was one of the most disappointing events of that dinner. Our party consisted of four adults and one toddler for whom the parents ordered a bowl of macaroni and cheese along with burgers for themselves. I've worked at a restaurant before and not sure why they didn't have it in place at this one that you should at least offer to bring out children's food first so that 1. The kids don't throw a fit when the food takes forever and 2. The parents can freely enjoy their meals because the children are fed. We waited about 45 minutes for our four burgers to arrive. We saw other tables around us get sat after us and their food got delivered well before ours. It seemed that the waitress had forgotten about us, she didn't even check in with us, let alone to tell us that the kitchen is backed up and it would be just another few minutes before it got delivered. At the restaurant I worked at we had a late ticket time procedure where a server was responsible for notifying the manager when food was beyond the expected time and the manager then had to talk to the guests to ameliorate the situation. We got none of that. When my brother finally flagged her down after 45 minutes to ask when the food was arriving, all she said was 'I don't know how much longer it'll be' but luckily some other servers came to her rescue and dropped the food in that instant. I ordered my burger cooked to medium-rare temp and it arrived well-done... it felt like I was eating stale bread. To make matters worse, when I was still working on my plate but the other people in my party were finished with theirs, the server finally came up to our table and nonchalantly asked if we're ready for the check 1. I wasn't finished with my meal. 2. We were interested in dessert which is when we asked for the dessert menu. At this point the waitress either wanted to get rid of us rapidly or she felt that we were disappointed with our wait times because the desserts arrived promptly. Then we asked for the check ourselves, paid, and left without even a 'thank you' from the server. Extremely disappointing experience. Usually I like to give servers and restaurants the benefit of the doubt, maybe it wasn't their best day or whatever circumstance, but when you work in customer service, especially in the gastro industry where people choose to go and spend their hard-earned money, you should realize that you're there to make the experience pleasurable for your guests, and if you do your job, you will get rewarded with a respectful tip. I know everyone is crazy about HopCat right now, but it's really just not my favorite. It's always busy, so plan on using Yelp to get your name on the list ahead of time. Even the bar area doesn't usually have open seats if you plan on just showing up. They do have a huge beer list, which is fun, but since they're always busy it's hard to get tastes of the different ones you'd like to sample. Also, they do charge for a taste, but won't tell you that when you order one. So expect an additional $1 per sample on your bill. I don't mind paying for a sample, as long as I'm made aware of it. That was not a great surprise. The food menu isn't great. Nothing has been wrong with anything I've ordered; the food was all fine. The menu just doesn't really seem to have anything special. It's not my favorite, but I end up there every now and again when other people in the group are making the decision. We sat down at that table after another long wait and they didn't bring us a highchair. When we asked for one, they told us we couldn't put a highchair at that table. Apparently no one communicated that we wanted a highchair, despite making us wait for another table. So we were quickly moved to a table we could put highchair at. Great. Food took quite a while to come out. The fries tasted old, which is a shame when they're famous for their fries. Our server checked up on us immediately after our food finally came out (we literally hadn't even tasted it before she checked on us), and then only came by once after that to refill our waters. The food was all quite good, as it should be, given the price. Everything seemed cooked well enough. Summary: The food is good, the prices are a bit high, the service is less than stellar. But the overall experience was good, and if you want to try a new place or have people in from out of town, I don't think you'll be disappointed if you come here. I was so glad to have finally come to this location! We had a quick wait time, thanks to the virtual waitlist- my party of 4 only had to wait 25 minutes before being seated. There was a great selection of beers, as per usual. There were quite a few new beers on tap and I got to enjoy the Bourbon Carrot Cake Ale from Shorts brewing company. My husband had the Nutter Your Business stout and my sister got to enjoy a fantastic Campfire Stout! We started off with the Meat Head Pizza Rolls, which was great in originality being rolled in a wonton wrapper! My sister and I then split the Elotes Lollipops (our weakness in life) and the Mushroom Swiss burger with fries for our entree. Both dishes were super flavorful and perfectly creamy. The burger was spot on medium and held together fairly well with a substantial roll. The blue cheese and black pepper mayo was pretty fantastic and added a wonderful layer of flavor. My daughter's kids meal was so very substantial, including a cheese quesadilla, crack fries and veggie sticks, along with a big cup of lemonade all for a fair price of $6! This HopCat location is a step behind the downtown GR and East Lansing locations. The menus are the same, but the interior and atmosphere just don't compare favorably. There are some interesting touches - the beer label art is neat - but I just can't shake the feeling when I'm here that I'm sitting in a souped-up Chili's. (Which is exactly what I think was here before.) It's like if someone took HopCat, shoved it into a square box, and filled it with everyone from Cascade who wishes they lived downtown. The wait times are insane. I wait less for a table at the downtown location, and that place is gorgeous inside! If you're a suburbanite with time to burn, HopCat is still HopCat and the happy hour specials are fantastic if you can snag a table or a spot at the bar. Besides consuming food and beverages, a prime reason we go to establishments like HopCat is to socialize with friends. The background music was entirely too loud, with too much booming bass. The key word, if the management is reading this, is to have BACKGROUND music. They are still trying to sort out the service provisioning. There were plenty of staff working, but they seemed to not yet have a good workflow established. In addition, they obviously need some more point of sale terminals for their waitstaff. I was seated near one, and there was always 4 to 6 waitstaff queued up to enter their orders and cash people out. Food was OK. I had only their famous Crack Fries, and while they were good and because of the delays in getting food out, they arrived lukewarm. Overall, it's OK. It has been a long time since I have been to a Hopcat and despite living really close to this location it is my first time getting food here. That really comes down to their meager wine offerings when dining in (this was curbside order) Boy I have been missing some really good food! I probably will not dine in frequently as I like to enjoy a glass of wine when I go out. The Stella dbl smash burger was amazing with the bleu cheese, bacon, cheese sauce and onion ring. So many good flavors. The soup was awesome with chunks of tomato in it. My boyfriend enjoyed his double burger as well. I like the environmentally friendly packaging, great online ordering with pictures and quick curbside service. Our fries were not crispy but flavorful with their famous cosmic seasoning. This will definitely be on my list for take out again! I seen another review about soggy fries with takeout, I hope they can find a solution for this, but it might be worth swapping the fries out for something else if you are doing takeout. read more

These seasoned fries will leave you craving more! Their burgers were a huge hit with our table. There are plenty of other food options also. There's an enormous mural made out of beer caps, and old time beer cans line the walls. You'll enjoy browsing at the cans while thinking "I remember my Grandpa drinking that beer". My issue is the toilet seats are broken and my child just about fell off and cracked his head. I told the manager the first time and she said she would get it fixed right away. We went back several days later with other family and same issue. Also both times there was no toilet paper. If my elderly parent with Alzheimer's would have used the bathroom she could have gotten really hurt. Also, the children size portions are tiny.
