I wouldn't have ever thought to head to social misfits for my weekday morning matcha but here we are. the menu includes standards and fun lattes with house made syrups. they also have oat and almond milk for a $2 up charge. i ordered an iced matcha with pistachio syrup and my partner ordered a bananas foster latte (both with oat milk). The pistachio syrup was legit - there were actual pistachio chunks and no fake pistachio extract flavor. i definitely would have preferred my drink sweeter though. i was also impressed by the drink to ice ratio. so many iced drinks are mostly ice but this matcha was FULL and not overly diluted with milk. i really enjoyed the flavor of the matcha itself as well. my partner said he'd give his latte a 9.1 out of 10. unfortunately there do not seem to be any vegan food options so it will be drinks only for us. read more

This was the restaurant attached to our hotel, bottom floor, loved you could access it from the hotel or from outside. It's very punk rock and lively in there, walking in a sigh said " Please don't do coke in the bathrooms" lol so like ok sure!? lol The whole place menu is built on waffles, sweet and savory! We went with one of each...the pizza stick waffles and a monte cristo sandwich, both were heavy, filling, delicious like bar food, I would say. Back after a 2 year hiatus. Jake was our server and he did a great job. Food is still out there. Grand slam, Rancho Libre, and Son of a Biscuit all very good. Only complaint was my over medium eggs were over hard but still edible. Way too much food for the 3 of us. We love the interior of this place. Nice to just come and have a chai latte if you want too. Wish we had something like this closer to us as we would make it a regular stop. Good food and good service. This is still a go to place in my book. read more

This place has some very unique breakfast dishes mostly waffle based. We stopped in here with a small group and were seated promptly. Any time is a good time for waffles. They're a vehicle for so many sweet and savory ingredients, in my opinion. So when my family and I were walking around downtown Grand Rapids and needed a place to eat breakfast, we popped into Social Misfits because their menu is basically 90% waffles. My kids love waffles. Every kid loves waffles. Waffles it is! This is a great restaurant for families (because ... waffles), but also a great restaurant for adults because they have a nice selection of creative cocktails in the evening, and coffee in the morning. Social Misfits is basically waffles, alcohol and caffeine, in that order. When we visited in the morning, the adults opted for coffee (really great black coffee!) and the kids both opted for the Little Lad, a waffle topped with strawberries, blueberries and chantilly cream (basically whipped cream, but a little sweeter and whipped a little longer). Both of my children ate most of their waffle, which is a big thing, considering they usually eat like birds. We also got the Son of a Biscuit, which was a garlic parmesan waffle topped with chicken sausage gravy and a fried egg. You could add fried chicken to the mix for an extra $6 (we did not). This one was fine, but the egg was way overcooked! Oh well. Lastly: We got the Ol' Blue Eyes, a waffle topped with blueberry compote, lemon curd, whipped ricotta and graham cracker crumbs. This one tasted amazing, but there was so much blueberry compote and lemon curd that it made the waffle a bit soggy. I think the chef was feeling generous with the toppings, but homie needed to hold back a tad. Sometimes, a little bit goes a long way! Fifty percent less gloppy stuff would have made this waffle dish 100% better. If you ain't really about that waffle life, then not to worry. Social Misfits also has a few "not waffles" items on the menu, like salads, sandwiches and a couple of bar snacks. But I think if you visit this restaurant, you need to just embrace waffles. There are more than a dozen different waffles on the menu. They're all fun and well-thought-out. Pick one and eat waffles for breakfast, lunch or dinner. read more

This restaurant/coffee shop has a lot of great drinks! We settled in after walking around the river and were quickly seated. Our server was friendly and gave us a couple of suggestions. My London Fog was absolutely fantastic! It was one of the best ones I have ever had and I drink them often!!!! I loved the lavender sprig on top. The grilled cheese was AMAZING! Wow! Tons of flavor with crispy cheesy edges. It was a large sandwich and quite filling. I did the swap for the hummus and veggies. It was delicious. The bar mix was fabulous, I think the only thing that could make it better is it was served warm. The espresso martini was the best I've had in Grand Rapids by far. I went with my brother on a Saturday and it was pretty packed, though luckily there were still a few tables to spare (we did go around noon, which is the prime time for lunch/brunch). I do recommend going early if there's a specific item you want to try! They ran out of the R.B.G. when we ordered. We ordered the Yasuke, Country Grammar, and the Ol' Blue Eyes to share and they were super delicious! Our favorite was the Yasuke one. The hours are horrendous, the offerings are slim. It gives off the vibe as if they think YOU should feel lucky to be there. Decor is out there, but a bit tacky. Visited during a day out at Art Prize with a gluten-free friend. Had to update the review to say that she LOVED the waffle. It was perfect and on sight we couldn't tell which was which (except for the marker). Known for their waffles, they also have a great cocktail list, salads, and sandwiches. I decided to order the waffle with mac and cheese and fried chicken because it's their most popular and although it was delicious, my friend ordered the Ramen waffle which was easily my favorite that I tried and I'm still daydreaming about it. Our server wasn't too great and forgot my drink but that's ok, it happens. We waited about 45 minutes to get seated but it was prime time on a Sunday.
