This place is consistent and good. Prices are reasonable and portions are big. It doesn't seem to have been updated in decades, but is clean and is like an old school diner. I got a Western omelette with bacon added, home fries crispy, and a pancake. It was enough for two breakfasts. The omelette was fluffy and stuffed. The home fries were delicious and crispy. And the pancake was nice and a decent size. A dining companion got the club which looked good. I tried a fry and was not a fan (pretty bland and frozen tasting). Service was great. This restaurant has been a favorite among locals in Wyoming and Kentwood for a long time. Carol was our server and a brilliant part of a team that worked well together. The place was packed on Saturday morning, with a line outside. The food is traditional, with a good variety. I ordered the vegetable omelet, which came with Swiss cheese, hash browns, and free sautéed onions. It was generously filled with vegetables and kept me full for most of the day. All in the same visit with my family: 1) floating debris in my water 2) Silverware had old crusted food on it (mine and my kids) 3) Coffee burnt, undrinkable 4) my 10yr old wouldn't eat the waffle. Appears they use pancake batter to make Belgium waffles, meaning while it looks like a waffle it tastes like bland bread 5) Omelette had square American cheese slices melted on the top 6) Kids wanted skittles from machine on the way out, but one look showed they were discolored and had likely not be changed for a looooong time, gross. 7) 2 of 4 family members had serious digestive issues that evening Had high hopes...was looking for a Sunday morning spot. Feel like I traveled back in time to a great eat spot of the 80s in what used to house a Mr. Fable's restaurant. I found the place nostalgic, clean and a pleasant surprise. Great olive burger that was meatier and on a crisp grilled bun. Had a side of crispy hash browns with onions as well. My son said the bacon was great and not skimpy and enjoyed the fresh French toast and hashbrowns. No wait and the staff was welcoming. read more

The food is amazing and the service is great! It's a tad greasy though so people with digestive issues should order with caution.

Besides the soup, the meal was terrible. The hash browns were so burnt, and I like them crispy, and greasy. The grease was over the plate. I got the "Stacked Turkey " sandwich. There was 1.5 slices of lunch meat. When I questioned it, the kitchen said that's what is on it. They did, however add some more with an attitude. This was a pleasant surprise! I had heard this location is the best of any within this chain. I believe it! We had such a nice time with quick service in a fairy and happy and friendly atmosphere. This is in a great location right off of 96 and fuller. I imagine it gets pretty busy in the mornings, but the service was very efficient. I loved by eggs, Benedict and thought the hollandaise was perfect. Everyone in my party loved their dish as well. Including a delish extravagant grilled cheese. I just wish they were open later, they close at 2:30 every day. Over all, it's a reliable choice at a fair price that is down the road. I will definitely be back! read more

I've never been to a New Beginning's location and have always wanted to go. The atmosphere felt like it's a classic local spot. The servers are calling customers by name and bantering between each other. This is a seat yourself, pay at the counter kind of deal. My favorite part of the breakfast menu is that everything is priced with or without potatoes. If you understand my struggle for finding a menu like this, you know this is monumental. I ordered off of the specials board and got the eggs Benedict. He got sausage patties, eggs, and potatoes. Their eggs Benny was ham instead of Canadian bacon but was delicious nonetheless. The Hollandaise sauce broke but was delicious in spite of that. They also don't poach the eggs, but hey, they were cooked but runny so who cares? The portions could feed a toddler for the week, too. The american fries were killer and reheated well since there was absolutely no way that I was going to finish my plate. The service was amazing. Our server wasn't just attentive she was thoughtful. Place was "da bomb". We entered at 10am on a Sunday and boy-golly was it packed. Seated ourselves and immediately lovely Pam came to serve us our cups of jo. Upon surveying the menu we could t help but notice the fair prices and nice selection. I made my decision on food, slurped down the jo, read my Jason/Dash Day golf magazine, and chatted with mah friends. After placing orders Pam came back and served us more coffee. Very attentive and friendly. Anyways, we ate and chatted. It was excellent. Go to New Beginnings. Food was great, atmosphere was great, Pam was rad, and we left satisfied. I must have came on the wrong day... Previous reviews talk about great service, great atmosphere, great prices. Which is typically what I always experience at New Beginnings (28th street location). This last Saturday me & the family hit this spot around 1pm & as soon as we walked in I was face to face with a sign saying "section closed". I wasn't greeted or spoke too, we awkwardly walked over to a booth & sat down. 15 min later our server came by with some waters (thank you). We got our order in & the food time was not bad. But I just couldn't get over the service & how the place looked. Everyone seemed very confused, the 3 servers that I did see couldn't wait to go outside for a break, since that's all I over heard for the next 20min. Customers who were sitting when we came in were just getting there orders in by the tome we were... Did I mention that they were not busy? Seriously, I was shocked but happy because I was in no mood to wait (hangry was setting in). The boys bussing on the floor were constantly moving but seemed confused or uncomfortable, the cooks on the grill seemed good to go. After all said & done my jumbo cinnamon roll was definitely old, those canned mushrooms you used in my omelette were a few days old (you can just taste it). Check your day dots please! & to the server who asked when we were paying at the register if we could VERBALLY tell her how much to tip on OUR card so SHE could punch it in rather then us writing it in was completely rude & embarrassing. Coming from a customer service background, I just couldn't believe it & was totally taken back. It was not fantastic service nor did I feel that my food for TWO adults & ONE child was worth $51.00 but now I have to either insult you by telling you what I want to really tip you, or be a nice gal & tip that 10%. All while other customers are behind us also waiting to pay & now dreading the same question you just asked me. Super bummed this location does not stand up to some of the others. read more

I'm writing a review of this location but we went to the newly opened one in Kentwood. This place is nothing special, bland uninspired American food. Our food was fine, canned corn beef hash, over buttered toast. This place is ok if your only other choice is McDonalds but I can't imagine why anyone would eat here when you could go to Real Food in the next plaza or two down and on the same side. This place was really close to my aunts house so we stopped in for breakfast. It closes at 2pm. It was a traditional diner atmosphere, and it almost reminded me of a Waffle House, just larger with better food quality. Wasn't super clean but it wasn't super dirty. Food portions are HUGE! I was really really impressed with the breakfast potatoes. The waiter wasn't attentive, but she seemed to be one of the only waiters at the time. Food came quickly and it was hot!
