So reluctant to reveal the best lunch cafe in town, especially if ya co-exist with a 35+ year vegetarian because I love having a hidden gem where the wait is reasonable to get a seat....But since the cat is out of the bag, I might as well tell ya'll that this the best place in town. I get the Mantis Chicken sandwich with a generous portion of fries and have to take half it home almost everytime! My vegetarian spouse chooses from the over 15 different street tacos and is always pleased. Prices are reasonable too--we typically get out the door averaging $31 with an iced tea for two plus the food. Staff is welcoming as well-- they remember ya and always are friendly. I went with my family on Sunday for brunch. It was seat yourself when we got there, which surprised me because the restaurant was packed. We found an open table that hadn't been bussed yet, so we stood next to it for 10 mins waiting for someone to clean it. Finally they did and we sat down, only to wait another 10 mins before anyone came to take our drink order. Once we were able to place our order, the food didn't come out for another 35 mins, with zero check-ins or updates. When it finally came, we found out that one of our children's orders hadn't been prepared so they had to put in a last minute order. She waited while we all ate. Our food was lukewarm, the sausages were tough, the American potatoes weren't crunchy or crisp. My huevos rancheros were basically chunky refried beans and eggs. I asked the server for additional salsa (bc I couldn't taste what was on there), and it never came. The sausage gravy lacked any sausage or flavor. Extremely disappointing. Then we waited ages for the bill. I finally left with the kids while my husband tracked down the server. The server was nice when we saw him but he lacked any urgency or care. I know they were busy but the staff seem to lack a system or organization, and the food was honestly bad. Every other table around us also seemed frustrated. It is an old GAS SERVICE STATION. Need I say more? Yeah? Ok here I go. This place is spotlessy clean and feels like you fell back in time. There is seating inside, outside, and at the bar where you can watch the cooks. Upon entering the place smells good and looks inviting. This part of Grand Rapids looks to be in a revival. Lots of old BIG house, many very nice and others getting work. Looks like a few shops within walking distance. Street parking only, and it is pay to stay.... The menu is vast with all breakfast option all day and can be made into burritos. Hand made shakes Waffle fries And..... the staff is great with friendly smiles and warm greetings. believe me when i tell you i want to love this location of good truckin' diner but both times have been a miss for me. it's sad because i had such a great experience in lansing. I went during the soft opening but wanted to save my review for a second chance. yay for vegan options of course but they just did not hit. my first visit i got the naughty by nature burrito and the butter me up waffle. the broccoli was too hard and the cheese wasn't melted. for the gravy I was expecting breakfast gravy but it was giving soup. I was not a fan of the flavor or consistency for a breakfast item. they were also out of the butterscotch syrup for the waffle so i got chocolate and it tasted like hersheys which i am not a fan of. My second trip was almost a year later. I got the nora's burrito. i did enjoy this burrito more. it was very greasy but Im okay with that. The avocado though was so hard i'd rather they not have even put it in there because I had to pick it out. they also have vegan shakes but vegans beware...... fruity pebbles and cinnamon toast crunch are listed as vegan but they both contain a vitamin d that is derived from sheep's wool. again i really want to like the GR Good Truckin' because of the multiple vegan options and the great lansing experience but it's not doing it for me. read more

GTD is here! This is a well loved, eclectic diner based in Lansing that just opened their second location on Wealthy Street. The menu is large and includes breakfast and lunch options, as well as several vegan choices. The interior is pretty much unchanged from the former Royals, but they added some bright, fun murals at the entrance. We were one of the only parties there so we sat ourselves at a table near the garage doors. Like I said the menu is large which made it difficult to choose what I wanted because everything sounded great. They have sandwiches, burgers, tacos, and plenty of breakfast items. I went with the steak it easy as a breakfast burrito (steak, mushrooms, peppers, onions, red pepper aioli, cheddar, and pepperjack) but you could also order it as an omelette with toast. The burritos come with seasoned breakfast potatoes. Nate ordered the Zack attack (shaved ribeye, bacon, bbq sauce, grilled onions, habanero relish, cheddar, and pepperjack) with a side of slaw. We also got a half order of the hillbilly fries to start (waffle fries topped with pulled pork, cheddar cheese, cheese sauce, slaw, and bbq). The fries came out first and the portion was huge! I really liked this as the fries were fresh and crispy, and it was piled high with pork and toppings. Our other food came out shortly afterwards and I was impressed with the portions there too. My burrito was hot and stuffed full of meat! Nate's sandwich looked super messy but it was delicious - sort of like a sloppy joe vibe with a kick. The burrito was just a bit bland for me but hot sauce definitely helped. Our server was super sweet and friendly. We enjoyed our initial visit and will definitely be back to try more of the many menu items. read more

Was visiting Grand Rapids and was very excited to have breakfast here. Wait was not long. After ordering and waiting 30 minutes, I finally asked waitress status of food. She shared with me that it would be another 30 to 45 minutes as they had been inundated with dash door orders. she never once communicated this. My suggestion would be for the manager to concentrate on the customers that actually physically in your establishment. read more

This is a cute little diner with one of the most creative menus I've seen in a while. There is about 3/4 of a page with with different menu items that can be served as an omelette or a breakfast burrito. Genius! Everything from the tables to the bathrooms were spotless clean. I forgot to take pictures but the food was great, well seasoned and very generous portions. I will admit I'm a breakfast snob, and this diner did not disappoint. My over easy eggs were cooked perfectly, bacon had the perfect crispness, the French toast was great and the potatoes had the right amount of crunchiness on the outside, tender inside combination. If I could find any fault at all it would be that the biscuits and gravy need a little more seasoning but it was still good. Service is where they really shine though! The entire staff was amazing! We sat in a booth across from the counter and could observe everything wait staff to the kitchen staff. Everyone was in a great mood and seemed to actually enjoy being there and working together . They were having fun while putting out amazing food in a very timely manner. Our waitress, Hope, was hands down one of the most attentive and enjoyable waitresses I've encountered in years! She explained in detail the menu and the options involved. I would hire her in a split second!! Vibrant. This is the word I would use to describe this place. From the the atmosphere to the food the place is vibrant. They did a really good job transforming this building into a fun and bright place to eat. I ordered the Bourbon Street ($12), which is Cinnamon swirl texas toast with caramelized bananas in a rum sauce, topped with a cream cheese drizzle. This was amazing. The flavor is hard to describe as it is more complex than might be expected. It is sweet, but not overpowering. There's enough bananas to have some with every bite, which I recommend. One small issue is they forgot the cream cheese drizzle. I didn't realize at the time, but I do wonder how that changes it. This came with American fries which were very tasty, and a protein. I chose chorizo and this was an excellent choice. I also ordered a Hillbilly street taco($3.5), this was very good. I think it could have used a little more sauce and was a little greasy, but I would order again. The person I was with ordered the Steak it Easy omelette ($12), this has steak, mushrooms, peppers, onions, red pepper aioli, cheddar and pepper jack cheese. It was declared to be mmm mmmm good. So good it would be hard to try something else. She liked the American fries and multi grain toast also. I must also say the prices are extremely fair. I would have expected them to be 50% higher, so kudos to them The service was great. Happy friendly service. Overall a perfect 5 star review. Would I return? Absolutely! read more

This place is BEYOND packed on the weekends to the point where they don't take to-go orders over the phone. Tasty Breakfast Place! My husband and I love going here as it is a nice walk from our home and we know we are always going to get a good breakfast and great service. We are usually basic breakfast people but here. The variety of breakfast options was impressive, from classic eggs and bacon to mouthwatering breakfast burritos. Here with all the options we have tried many things on the menu and have always enjoyed it. From the classics to the breakfast taco and sandwiches, so good. If your looking for something on the sweeter side the french toast options are amazing my favorite is the Bourbon Street with its thick cinnamon swirled Texas toast topped with caramelized bananas and rum sauce will either put you in a food coma or keep you buzzing all day. . The service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere had that classic diner charm that made me feel right at home. I have been to Good Truckin' Diner a few times with large groups and food, service and ambiance have been outstanding each time. The server could not have been nicer and accommodating as some of our group trickled in a bit late and everyone LOVED their food choices. We tried out the chocolate chip pancakes, an omelet as well as their rodeo burrito! The portions are very very generous! The burrito was definitely able to feed 2! I was so excited to see that GTD finally opened! We went on a Saturday afternoon (probably around 1ish) to grab a later brunch and were pleasantly surprised to get seated pretty quickly. It is diner style, so you walk in and it's first come first serve (at least when we visited). We chose to sit at the counter and I loved getting to see all the food being prepped and delivered (to figure out what I would like to eat the next time). The menu is enormous and kind of hard to choose - if you go hungry, do you go big and get a burrito? They don't have the healthiest of options (like if you want a salad, this is not your spot) but I love that they have so many choices and you can even enjoy a vegan meal if that's your jam! The interior looks the same as before, but they have an awesome mural that greets you as you walk in. I definitely will say that I'll go again and I hope that GTD considers expanding their hours into the evening at some point. The only thing that would help is probably figuring out it's curb appeal... the outside is very plain and lacks that draw, especially when you are in the Cherry Hill neighborhood with other places with outside seating! Something to consider as they get their footing but I'm happy that they're here and I can't wait to try again. read more
