Long time shopper of this store. Came in today and was told I needed to keep my purse behind the counter while I shopped. I know the employees don't make the rules, and I don't have a problem with doing this. I do however have a problem when i start to look around and some people had purses/bags even bigger than mine. If you're going to tell one person, tell them all. Either bags or no bags. if I'm going to leave my purse that's worth more than any of the purses available for purchase at this location behind a counter with people I don't even know, make it fair. And there's not much any manager or anyone can try and reply to make this make any sense to me... don't single people out. read more

It's a fun store... however they deny access to the restroom. I love to spend some time when I go in a second hand store. It's relaxing, but not if you realize you need a restroom! In fact, I'd rather not go in at all. It's offensive to spend money in a place that treats you in an undignified manner. The bigger issue I have is a drive 25 minutes to get here and they say restrooms are for employees even though it's in the store area. This thrift establishment is personally my favorite in the area. Their parking is accessible, the items sold are incredibly diverse, and I can always rely upon them to give me great deals on quality items. If I need clothing, they have it. If I need jewelry, they have it. If I need silverware or dining supplies, they have it. If I need books or toys, they have it. Almost anything I could want at a thrift store, they have it (and at a reasonable price). The employees are hardworking and always pleasant while assisting. My only qualm is the lack of bathrooms. But it really isn't their fault, it's just something to be aware of if it's your first time shopping there. I highly recommend! read more

This is a decent little thrift store that I used to go to on a nearly weekly basis before covid hit/I left for college. A good selection of everything from books and movies to clothes and electronics. The 4 star rating comes from the large amount of junk they fill up the shelves with at times, like open jars of face cream someone has already used or a tin of beans that expired mothers ago. Something for everyone here. There is a great toy section and it's near the kid section to give them something to do while you shop. The women's section is huge and they always have seasonal items. Wet suits and bathing suits in summer, and snow suits and skiing gear in winter. I haven't had any luck in the men's section yet but haven't tried very hard yet. read more

I am a reseller and I struck GOLD at my last visit here. I'm not sure what the other reviewers Are talking about? I found a cashmere Eileen Fisher sweater several new with tags Eileen fishers some other high-end designer European clothes, etc. I was incredibly pleased with my haul. I'll be planning another trip back there tomorrow check out their new stuff! I will likely be going once a week! Between them and the goodwill, Watsonville is a great place to thrift! read more

Updating my review. I have bought a few appliances here now. All I can say is buyer beware. I've had issues with all of them. The first one was taped shut in the original box so I figured it would be good to go. When I opened it, it was completely broken and unusable. I returned it and they refunded me no question. You'd think they'd inspect their merchandise more carefully especially if your going to tape the original box shut. Another appliance was a Bread machine it even came with the original owners manual and recipe book which is rare. But when I got it home it was missing the main part the dough paddle. Again I wish they would inspect their merchandise better. They don't do half off the entire store any more now it's just a few selected color tags and only one is 50% off They do have good prices for their childrens clothing. Well, thrift store shopping is like treasure hunting! Sometimes you will strike gold and sometimes you come up empty-handed. It also depends if you are just aimlessly shopping or if you have specific needs. Today without even looking for them I found thumb joy grips for my Playstation and Xbox controllers. What a score! Thank you to whoever donated them. They are great quality too better than the ones you would buy at gamestop or online. I always leave hope with something and I look foward to my next hunt! This place is awesome! UPDATE: I arrived at the store at 5:32pm as when I talked to the manager last time, she said they closed at 5:50. There was an employee (different than the one who harassed me last time) named Rosie, standing behind me, and she said something in Spanish . I didn't acknowledge her because she was standing behind me, we never made eye contact and I don't speak Spanish. She came up to me and said "we closed at 5:45" I said "okay" and walked down the isle. She came up to me again and said they were "closed already" I said "okay just wrapping up." Again she aggressively approached me and said "we're closed already go home!" I responded asking "why are you being so rude?" And mentioned the 2 other shoppers in the store who weren't getting berated AND 7 customers in line who were waiting to pay. She proceeded to yell at me again from 4 isles down "leave, go home, what don't you understand?! go home already! ?" Its literally mind blowing how awful and rude the employees at hope thrift Watsonville are. At least I had the decency to take the item out of my basket and place it on the nearest rack instead of throwing it,like I wanted to. As I walked out the door, I checked the time. It was 5:46. We donated a few things and signed up for the rewards program. For the donation they gave us a 30% off card. I went in to check things out and they have some decent stuff in there. But a little before Christmas the sent me an email that all bikes were good to be 25% off and I need a bike so I went by. They have some nice bikes and I bought a nice specialized bike for $150 on sale. The bike is worth a lot more than that. It only had one little scratch on the frame near the back tire. This is one of the bigger thrift store chains in town since they took over the old Orchard Supply location. They have plenty of parking. They have weekly deals (they color code their price tags and choose a color for the week) They also have senior discounts. They have a few fitting rooms. Lots of selections of everything - clothing, shoes, purses, electronics and household goods and bric a brac, etc. Definitely recommend to check out if you love thrift shopping. They also have a list of what they do and do accept as far as donations which I included a picture of as far as August 2019. read more

My sister is a loyal, frequent shopper here since their grand opening. She's always telling me about her great finds but I've never gotten around to checking it out until now. Most thrift stores pretty much all function the same way but the inventory varies (of course), the prices, sales, and promotions vary, as well as the way they setup and organize their merchandise. For starters, there is plenty of parking here. The thrift store is in the building that was once an Orchard Supply Hardware store. The entrance confused me a bit for some reason. Maybe because there weren't any distinctive entrance signs but mostly due to the fact that I wasn't wearing my eyeglasses! Lol When I finally walked in I was surprised how big and spacious it was inside! I walked to my immediate right because I was drawn to the glass cases along the wall containing their nicer items displayed and locked behind glass. I saw a designer Betsey Johnson handbag for $35 and kept walking. Even if I were shopping for myself, which I partly was, I wouldn't spend that much on a used, designer handbag. Then after perusing the locked glasses cases, I walked a few steps further to the furthest point to the right, to the knickknack, household, housewares section. I was pleasantly surprised to see the shelves nicely organized with a definite system of organization. You have your housewares and household items like shelves of cups and mugs on one isle. Bowls and plates on the opposite side of that same isle. Interestingly they separated the cups, plates, and serving platters based on the material that they are made out of. Meaning the clear glass cups, plates, and platters were all on one shelving unit. While the ceramic cups were on another. Then you have your seasonable items displayed at the beginning of each isle. The very back wall of the store is where they keep the larger appliances like lamps, toys, board games, and books. They have a little bit of furniture for sale as well. Clothing is separated by size, gender, clothing type, and even color. A couple rows of shoes near the cash register are separated by size. You get the gist. Everything was placed at their designated location. It was surprising to see that there were a lot of new items. I noticed that the store was immaculate and organized because there were workers constantly buzzing around filling up shelves and organizing. As I was looking around near the glass cases, I was asked by a polite, nice young lady if I wanted to look at something in one of their locked glass cases. At checkout I told the cashier it was my first visit here and she gave me a comprehensive rundown of their sales, their sales system via color coded tags, the days of their special sales, signed me up for their rewards program and explained what it entails, and she gave me 20% off my purchase for being a first time shopper. While leaving the store I was thanked, complimented, and wished a good day by another employee near the store's entrance/exit. What service! A thrift store with staff that not only acknowledges the customer and offers to help them is very rare. In the end I found a brand new, collector's edition, hardcover book still in plastic for my big sister written by one of her favorite authors. In the seasonal, Valentine's display I found a flawless, soft pink, ceramic bank of the Eiffel Tower adorned with rhinestone gems for my stepdaughter who has decorated her room with all things France related. I walked through the isles at least twice for each isle in the household items section, looking for vintage salt and pepper shakers (I collect and resell them) but unfortunately did not find any. But then I saw them. Hardly used, commemorative, whiskey glasses by the famous tattoo artist and fashion designer Ed Hardy! I am a lover of his work and was thrilled that for just $1.58 I had something with his signature artwork to call my own! In conclusion, I was pleasantly surprised by my visit. Not just for the finds and quality of the merchandise but especially for the service. The staff here operates like a well-oiled machine and it shows. They are also quick to call in reinforcement if the checkout line gets too long which adds to their awareness and attention to the customer's needs. It's probably the cleanest, most spacious thrift store I've been to! Of course there is that unpleasant smell of used merchandise that is common in thrift stores, and some items were priced too high, but I overlooked all the negatives because the positives far outweighed the negatives! I was eager to tell my sister of my pleasant experience and post my review here. I will certainly be returning especially on their half off days! read more

I love shopping here, do not get me wrong as there is often a treasure to find. However some items can be over priced. The main reason why though I gave this store 4 out of 5 stars is because that last time I was there, I donated about 25 garbage bags of merchandise. No rewards points or coupons were given to me whatsoever. Come on! One mayor reason I donated to this store was for the rewards. Not too many thrift stores give rewards for donations and that is sad. In the past I recall Savers rewarded people who donated, but stores like Goodwill never have and yet that appear to do very well with donations. What made Hope stand out was their generous discounts of up to 30% off next purchase. It made me more inclined to donate. It appears those days are over. read more

They have a discount system like goodwill with colored tags and what not and I definitely got some way too good deals. Great selection on items , prices are good too and they have there senior day on Tuesday which is 50% off but excludes white tags and new arrival week tags this discount is for those who are 55 years or older . On Saturday they have family day which is also 50% off most items excludes white and newest color week tag . You will find great items here at the store and the store is always clean and color coordinated. Staff members there are also helpful and always smiling and in good moods . My first impression of this store is that everything is overpriced. I feel like there is a lot of junk here. For example a $7 used shirt from Target (Merona brand) or Walmart (Faded Glory brand) or used plastic food starage containers from the dollar store priced at $2 or $3 dollars. I suppose everything is priced high because there is a 50% off sale every weekend. Unfortunately, since the prices are high, sometimes items will stay on the shelves for months. There are things on the shelves that have been there since the store opened. No one is going to buy that sugar container that is missing a lid for $10, please throw it away. Actually, dump the store out and start with a fresh inventory. There also seems like there is a lot of underutilized, empty space in the store. I think the store would benefit from a sales floor redesign and higher quality standards for the merchandise. read more

Pretty decent thrift store it has a lot of clothes and space and it's usually pretty organized. They do good sales every once in a while that cover most of the store. Had one bad experience shopping late. I went to try on the four things I had picked up at 7:40 and was told the fitting rooms close 15 minutes before the store closes. The store closes in 20 minutes and the sign on the door said the rooms were open until 7 (closing time) I get this was probably just one employee who had a long day at work and just wanted to go home but I wanted to warn any late night shoppers.
