I'm writing this to share an honest experience for other families who may not fully understand how…read moreprivate school policies can impact them during difficult times. My children attended this school and were happy there. It was the only school they had known, and they had built relationships, routines, and a sense of stability within that environment. When our family experienced financial hardship due to job loss, we were no longer able to meet the tuition requirements. As a result, our children were asked to leave. I understand that private schools operate as businesses and rely on tuition. However, what was difficult was the lack of flexibility, support, or transition planning for the children. The process felt abrupt, and there was little acknowledgment of the emotional impact on them. For young children, being removed from their school environment is not just a logistical change, it's a significant emotional disruption. That part did not seem to be considered in how the situation was handled. I'm sharing this so other parents are aware: If your financial situation changes, there may be limited options, and the outcome can be immediate. If you are considering this school, I would encourage you to ask detailed questions about: -financial aid policies during unexpected hardship -transition support if a family can no longer afford tuition -how the school supports children emotionally in those situations The education itself may be strong, but families should understand the full picture before committing.

We have been a Chapin family for eleven years…read more My older daughter had attended Chapin since pre-k and graduated last year. She was more than ready to take on the challenges of secondary school. Her freshman year was an academic success! Throughout her years at Chapin, she has grown to be an independent, well-rounded individual. She's not afraid to email teachers about assignments, ask questions when she is uncertain about something discussed during class, or voice her opinion about anything. We owe those positive attributes to Chapin. My younger daughter has also attended Chapin since pre-k. She continues to amaze us with how much she's learned in just a short amount of time. We owe that to the excellent Chapin teachers who not only educate their students but also care about their growth and development. My husband and I are excited for my little one to experience all that Chapin has to offer in the coming years. Chapin is an extraordinary school. The decision to send our children here is one of the best decisions that my husband and I have ever made.

Princeton Friends School is a community of learners who work together to create an environment…read morewhere individuals feel supported, welcome, and included, where adults often learn from the students, and all feel engaged in the learning process. As a small school, every member of the community gets to know one another, and mixed-age groupings for events and some classes are the norm. Social and emotional well-being is something the staff take seriously and constantly review and address. PFS believes in the importance of outdoor learning, and often students can be found studying microbiology in a local stream, finding writing inspiration among the trees, and gaining confidence in themselves when working in the garden or exploring the woods. Teachers respect the authenticity and agency of each student, and encourage and empower them accordingly. I have worked at PFS for four years as a teacher and within the administrative team, and my sense is that the teachers who choose to be here do so because they truly care about the other members of the community, and enjoy the daily challenge of helping one another be our best selves. We seek to discover and nurture the joy in learning and in contributing to a community of folks who care for one another. Diverse learners are welcome at PFS and teachers and staff work hard to 'meet them where they are' while encouraging growth and student ownership of their learning. Students who need extra support at PFS are evaluated, and given accommodations in class and supported by a student study team. Families are encouraged to be active partners in the students' learning, and are welcomed regularly on campus for events. Teachers are in regular communication with families through student advisory teams, and there are many opportunities to connect through the Family Association.

The facility is large enough for two full courts, and it is used morning 'til late afternoon on Sundays to fit in all the teams playing in this age bracket. Like most public schools in the lower grades, it lacks bleachers. Parents stand/sit around the edge of the courts to watch their kids play. The referees are local people trained in wearing black and white stripes and a whistle. They do an excellent job keeping the games under control, especially given the reality that most of these boys and not yet developed into skilled athletes. They don't call every foul or violation, because the game would never be completed it they did that. They let the game go and try to allow everyone to have fun while they compete. Thanks to all the volunteers who coach, keep time and score, and maintain the facilities for the rest of us. Kudos to the parents for coming out and letting their kids play the game without parental interference. It is good to see everyone again this season.
