I contacted Hopkins & Sons about moving furniture from a one bedroom apartment in West Chester, PA (plus 25 boxes in a downstairs storage unit) to my new apartment in Newark, DE. They were excellent all around, from Amy, the moving coordinator, to Josh, Joe and Neil the three gentlemen that performed my move. Communication from Amy was clear, prompt and friendly. The movers arrived right on time for an 8 am start. They knew their stuff. In addition to moving a couch, desk, and chair among other items, they moved my 55" flat screen tv and my Queen-sized sleep number bed with no problems. They do charge an up charge to pack the tv into a specific moving box for flat screens, which I thought was fair and much better than them simply trying to wrap it. They worked quickly and were done loading in 90 minutes. They were also familiar with my new building and knew where to park to unload and quickly got me set up and everything was completed by 1 pm. Moving is stressful, and the movers saw me when I was not at my best, and their friendliness, good humor, and competence really helped me get through the day. I thought the pricing was competitive for a professional service. I did call other companies to compare, and one of them wanted to charge 3x the price to move the flat screen tv, and didn't want any responsibility for the sleep number bed!! Just silly. The gentlemen were nice who came. That is the best I can say. They did not mark the boxes fully and the only way to find things was to open the boxes. They broke several things and most can't be repaired or replaced. There are things I have not yet found even though the items from the same rooms have been unpacked. Load 9/11 unload 9/14. Same crew loaded and unloaded us. Jay, Ron, and Darnell. Great crew! Professional, courteous, efficient, and yes, even good relationship within the crew. They exemplified tearmwork. Kept my items over 2 days. They packed my items with care, as if they were packing their most prized possessions. When unpacking, nothing was broken! Hopkins and Sons also gives 25 Free NEW boxes when you sign with them. That helped me to not search for used boxes, or saved me money from Buying them at Home Depot. I don't believe the other reviews at all. In trying to set up a move for my mom who lives in Delaware and is 80 I contacted Hopkins and spoke to Dora. She took my info as I was the one who is managing and paying for the move. She had my email and phone number as well as my moms address and phone number. My Mom contacted me two days after they where to have called her and set up an appointment for Wednesday at 9 AM on the 10th. Saying nobody had contacted her. So I called 15 minutes ago to follow up and was told that she did not return their call so they just threw our information in the trash and moved on. Boy business must be good. It's telling that a moving company has been in business for 40 years and only has 5 positive reviews. read more

Scheduled a move with Hopkins & Sons for a move and couldn't be happier with the experience. Our move was from Philly area to Maryland and the price was extremely reasonable. Our home settlement got rescheduled a couple times due to COVID delays with the mortgage company and Amy in their office was super helpful in rescheduling and coordinating when we found out last minute about the change in dates. Byron, Rob and Steve were the movers that assisted and were very personable, took great care of our items, and got the job done quickly and efficiently despite being paid hourly. Awesome company and everything went perfectly with our move! I liked that they sent someone (Tom) to our home first, then provided an estimate. Tom's estimate was right on, and after the load was packed and weighed the actual cost was slightly less than the estimate. Good communications from the office before the move. The three guys who did the actual packing and moving were terrific! Polite, careful, and a pleasure to work with. Called them about an in-state move on a certain date, told me that should not be a problem, sent them details of what was to be moved, responded back that it would be a problem with scheduling and they were unable to move us. Wish they just would have just been honest and say that the move was too small for them, or that the distance was too far or whatever the real reason was. In the meantime, we hired someone else who was awesome at a great price...things work out sometimes!!! read more

I strongly suggest you use another moving company. We used Hopkins twice and the second time we got a bait and switch from the company for our interstate move. They were very secretive about the driver for our move even though we made a specific request, they split up our goods, left items behind because they did not have room and even though they knew how much stuff we had, lost items, broke a number of items and then told me we had a year to file a claim. Apparently though the bill of lading, which was over 35 pages, said 9 months so it was denied! I brought much of this up at the time of the move and they said "we will take care of it later" and what they took care of was avoiding responsibility. Hopkins and Sons came recommended by a coworker. I had priced 3 other local moving companies. The first noticeable difference with Hopkins was that they sent out a representative to my apartment to give an estimate. When he arrived, he was wearing a suit, and carried an i-pad to take an inventory of my items. I was emailed an extremely detailed estimate 10 minutes after our meeting. On the day of the move, 3 workers arrived exactly on time. They were extremely efficient and finished the move 2 hours ahead of the estimate. I would highly recommend them to anyone. read more

I contacted this company in the morning recently and spoke with Amy. After giving her an idea of what I needed moved, she told me that 2 men should be fine at $140/hr. She also stated that, for the driving times, the rate would be reduced. I was sooo excited to hear this, as it is ridiculous to pay people $140/hr. while driving. She instructed me to send an email to Chris. I waited more than 36 hours and had to call them again because Chris didn't respond to my email. Amy had to get Chris to respond to me. When he finally did, the quote was over $1,000. In speaking with Chris over the phone, he told me that Amy could not have possibly told me what I claimed she told me. In speaking with Mark Blackwell, the acting manager in the owner's absence, he stated the same thing. I figured I needed 5 hours tops for loading, unloading and driving time, which should have brought the estimate down by half. If you don't mind highway robbery, then call this company!! read more

We moved on 11/17 /16 and used Hopikins and Sons. I can not say enough about this moving company . They were the hardest working , nicest most proffesional group of guys we have ever seen. The representative that came out , Brad, was so good with his quote and what he promised us would happen the day of the move . This never happens ! I know , we've moved seven times! All of them have been horrible. Not so with Hopkins. CJ, Byron , Tone, Bruce, Allen , Devone and Mike were the absolute best crew . They moved us out of a big house and in our new house on the same day . Super long hard day for these guys but they just kept moving and were super proffesional the whole day . I really can't thank these guys enough . They made something so stressful go so smoothly . These guys are absolutely the best!!!! read more
