My family and I went this past weekend, we had a wonderful experience:would recommend to others. We rented a boat for only an hour which was perfect for us since we were traveling with a toddler whom fell asleep after 45 minutes. Beautiful views, serene, chill, exactly what we wanted. Suggestion There were many people down by the docks, too many, too close to each other. Yes the Covid-19 signs are there (thanks) but it doesn't do any good if we all have to meet by the small cramped location on the docs to sign in. I would recommend having people sign in and wait to be called at the location above, before you start walking down to the docks. Nothing against the workers or the company, I think you guys were great but people are idiots, masks half on, not on, kids walking everywhere. Great place to rent a kayak ($12 for a single rider and $20 for a double rider kayak). My coworkers decided to go kayaking for the 4th of July and it was a lovely day out. It wasn't crowded in the waters and we received awesome customer service by the family who runs the business. For an hour, we kayaked around the Channel Islands harbor and it was a great way to get a workout in while enjoying the scenic views of the harbor. If you are interested in a relaxing boating adventure, without buying and maintaining a boat, consider renting by the hour from Hopper Boat Rentals. It's only $65 an hour to rent an electric boat and they are small dog friendly. We took our 15 pound dog on the boat and he was proud wearing his own life jacket that we bought him for this memorable event. Boating out in the ocean is not for beginners - but boating within a harbor on a still day is such a fun and accessible experience, even for beginners. Arriving here can be confusing because even though there's an address, the rental location is not in a building, but rather, in a small hut down by the water. Just walk down towards the boats to be able to check in. Although the Duffy boats only go 5 mph, that's kinda the max speed any boat can go in the harbor, so you don't need a faster boat. You'll still feel the wind and you'll boat right next to the swimming seals and other wildlife. An hour is the perfect amount of time to boat up around the channels and back. A Duffy boat can hold a lot of people so call ahead and ask how many max are allowed, if you are throwing a party on the water. Relax and enjoy this beautiful experience! read more

So my wife found this place for our family to do a quick daytime adventure. It's quite a drive for us, but hey, that's part of the adventure, right? You can rent a boat for an hour for $65, and you can take your entire family out on the boat. You can bring drinks, food and smiles. There are different size boats, with different costs, or you can rent a paddle boat too. You take the boat out and go around the harbor, through the beautiful water front homes and canals. It's a nice little escape for a short time. The harbor area around it is pretty desolate, it seems most of the businesses here have closed down, or are close to closing down so there's not much else to do in the area, but the boat rentals are up and running. It was a great experience, but the only complaint I have is that they never answered the phone when we called for reservations. As it turns out, the guy said there were only 2 of them working that day, and they were busy. But it was a leap of faith to drive 50 miles and hope they were open and we'd be able to rent a boat. It almost didn't work out, but luckily, one of they other patrons came back and we were able to rent that boat. It all turned out cool though, and I'd definitely come back. read more

The reservation process for our electric boat ride was seamless. When we arrived the friendly crew were ready for us. We filled out the paperwork, got the life vests for our two young granddaughters, were given clear instructions on operating the boat and off we went for a wonderful afternoon ride. We saw sea lions lounging on the dock, ate snacks and passed lots of friendly people in their boats or on their kayaks. I've been here twice for two birthdays. Each time, the person that has helped us was extremely kind and helpful. My family is spread out throughout Oxnard so it was nice that they started our time once we were all there but I think that only happens when they're not busy. We've brought our own food and drinks each time and they were very welcoming. They gave us a map of the docks we could stop at to use the bathroom and in our case, pick up one of our cousins who was running late. One of the stops is at Toppers if you need food! I suggest booking for two hours to really enjoy the experience. I did one hour and felt a bit rushed but two hours, we got to do a lot more. Do bring things like a speaker to play music and hand sanitizer just in case you do touch the water. Also, since we did go in December, it's an open boat so bring a blanket or good jacket since it does get cold. read more

We were here on time, but the party before us had not returned their 12 seater boat when they were supposed to! We have been stranded for over an hour with 2 kids, 3 and 2 year old. What did I hear from the owner after multiple call attempts and harbor patrol calling them...."We have many customers - we can't get you". Really? Your boat breaks, you are not answering my calls and you have no regard to small children stuck in all of this / you shouldn't be in this business. As a result - Uber to get back to my car. Great experience for my guests and children. Adding an update: even getting Uber for us was a challenge for this company... Lyft would only take 3 people so we had to wait for another car. Guess what - it wasn't ordered right. Thanks to Good Samaritan who drove us back. I came back to this rental because I used them in the past but they showed me great lesson in loyalty. Unfortunately I had a bad experience with Hopper Boat Rental. We decided to go paddleboat and kayaking on Veteran's Day. We checked the night before to see if the hours were different. We were told they open at 11:30 AM (even though it continue to say 10:30AM on yelp). We showed up at 11:30AM and no one showed up till 12:00PM! We sat around waiting half an hour! Then when we go out rental, they never measured my height to the paddle that were given to me. I felt like the paddles didn't fit me quite right and made it extremely difficult throughout the whole experience. My board was hard to control against the current and I ended up falling in the water with three sea lions that were startled by my out-of-control paddle board! (Partially my fault for probably getting a bit close in the first place but I couldn't steer even if I wanted to). Literally, my friend had to use his own paddle board which was 2x the rental size and ram my board to get me back to shore or I will drift wherever the wind and current blows! Probably will not be returning to this specific store. read more

Showed up at 5pm exactly to rent an electric boat for an hour (they close at 6) and the "worker" refused to rent a electric boat because last rental is at 5. (It was 5) the two guys working seemed more interested in smoking their cigarettes than performing their job function. Didn't argue just left to go to the boat rental in Ventura harbor (they stay open later) and that's who will be getting my business from now on. Poor workers performing poor workmanship cost a client. Hop onto Hopper if you want an easy breezy trip out to sea! Me and 7 of my best gal pals were planning on doing a duffy ride in the Ventura harbor but were sorely disappointed when the place we were going to rent from was unattended (even though their hours... /even being special holiday hours/ specified that they would be open). We promptly found Hopper Boat rentals and should have made them our first choice all along! When I called to double-check that they were open, the gal was super helpful over the phone: she checked how many were in our party, gave me the appropriate hourly rate ($65/hr for a party of 8 or less - what a STEAL) and even said she would start getting the boat ready for us since we were on our way over! ****NOTE - they only accept cash or check! When we arrived, there was minor paperwork for just the main renter to fill out (only took about 5 minutes) and our boat was ready shortly. It's best to go with someone who has experience driving a boat before - shout out to our main girl Captain Bri Sweet!!! Our boat was clean, gassed, prepped for a cruise and the head lady even offered us a bluetooth speaker but we had already come prepared with one as all good ship-hands do! They also provide you with a map to guide your voyage through the channel islands harbor... which in my opinion, I prefer channel islands to the Ventura harbor so this worked out much better. We did that duffy for 2 hours ($130 total for our party of 8). We brought along supplies for a charcuterie board and drinks to lend to the festivities. SO SO fun! Beware of making reservations (triple check the owner wrote it down) I called and made a reservation four days prior and when I got there they did not have anything stating I had a called and reserved a time. The guys working were super apologetic and had us come back in an hour to rent a boat, which ended up working out fine. As far as the boat ride it was so relaxing and fun. I called about a month ago to make a reservation for an 8 passenger electric boat. They were very communicative and responded quickly to my calls. They even called the day before to confirm.
