My family wanted a day trip to try something different. We decided to reserve an electric boat to cruise around the marina for 2 hours. Very pleasant experience. I'm a happy customer. The staff was friendly, prompt and courteous. The prices were fair. We'd definitely return. TIPS: Bring a picnic basket with some goodies for the ride. We rented kayaks one day and an electric boat the next. Both very different experiences and both perfect outings. On our next visit we will add standup paddle boarding to the itinerary. The kayaks are low enough to go under a 4 feet bridge and enter into a canal surrounded by homes. This is a nice peaceful route with very little if any large boat traffic. The next day we rented an electric boat for 8 people and took a 1.5 hour cruise around the harbor. We went on a weekday and again there was very little boat traffic. The kids enjoyed hanging out with the large sea lions and watching them wrestle for territory. The staff was pleasant and the prices were very reasonable. read more

Wow! Poor customer service. If I could give negative stars I would! We went out for an hour ride. Half way through the boat ride the boat gave out. We called to let them know of the issue. Their recommendations to get the boat working again didn't work. I was assured we would not get charged for returning late due to the mechanical difficulties. Luckily we were able to steer, but had no power ..the max was 5 mile speed..we were basically going 1 mile with at the fastest gear. When we returned we got no apology. Instead the owner tried to charge us late fees!!! We explained to her we had issued with the boat and we called. She said people always say that in order to get more free time on the boat..talk about "customer always being right!" In the end we didn't pay extra, but were sorely disappointed with our treatment. We were told not to return, I don't think that will be an issue!! read more

So I came here a couple week ago with a group of friends. I was expecting some mean lady to talk down to me based on the bad reviews below, and I was ready to scream back and get in her face if that happened but it didn't. Instead the one lady that was there was actually pretty nice. We bought time for an hour and came in about 10 minutes late and the lady was nice enough NOT to charge us anything. We had a great time hanging out, eating and playing a board game on the boat. So yea, don't let those old reviews below scare ya. The experience would have been better if we didn't have to deal with this rude unprofessional blond girl in the dock , I was standing more than 12 feet away far from her waiting for my wife to come while my friend was signing the paper work and she insisted rudely for me to leave because I do not have my mask I tried to tell her stupid head that iam away far from her in the open air and my wife was coming with the mask but it was not going through her little head , in the other hand the guy who took us to the boat and showed us how to operate I think his name was Carlos was very nice . Came here a week after my first experience which was great. I wanted to rent a boat for my birthday. I made reservations the day before we wanted to go, the guy that made it said it was all good to go (no weather warning in advanced whatsoever). Our reservations were for 11 AM on a mildly breezy day. We arrived at 10:50 and no one was there-no big deal we were early. But 11 came and there was still no one so we figured to give another 10-15 mins. At 11:25 I called them and asked if they were going to be there and the guy said "Well it depends if the wind dies down or not" Well thanks for letting us know even AFTER we made reservations. There was another group there that was also waiting for them and in the same situation as us. We called again at 11:45 and the lady that picked up said she would be there in about 15 mins., we still waited in hoping that she would actually show up-big mistake on our end. We were finally fed up at 12:15 and we called one more time to be sure and the lady said it will still take her another 15 mins. for her to leave her house. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. TLDR; Wasted our time for something they could've made money on. If they decide to get their act together we may come back. But after that experience it's highly unlikely. read more

After reading the reviews I was a little concerned that we would book a boat and they wouldn't show up so I called and was reassured that those reviews were a fluke and there would definitely be someone there. Long story short our 10 person group is stuck waiting in the parking lot for over an hour past our booking time and when she finally arrives we still have to wait for the boat to be cleaned still. The boats are rather dilapidated and not a single button functioned including the horn which I'm pretty sure is illegal. Do not rent from this company unless you enjoy hanging out in the parking lot!!!! read more

This business appears to be a part time venture for the owners. Reserved a boat 24 hours ahead for 10:00 AM the next day. Arrived at 9:40 and waited till 10:25 and still no one showed up. I called their listed number and instead of speaking with someone a received a message that the voicemail box was full and could not accept anymore messages. So I Yelped and found another boat rental business just in the other side of the bridge. We hit there and saw that the boats were much cleaner than this place and the two guys working there were extremely knowledgeable and professional. read more

It's a real shame when you plan a nice day for Mother's Day, drive 2 hours one way to find that Sarah (the owner) failed to write our reservation down. As a result, there were no boats available and we had to turn around with all of our stuff and go home. After calling Sarah to make the reservation and calling back a second time on a separate day to confirm the reservation, Sarah still failed to write it down. We come here a lot and have never had a problem but this is the last time we come to Hopper Boat rentals. Sarah, you ruined the day due to your lack of detail. read more

My son and I found this place on the Groupon for our daytime adventure to go kayaking, but it was cold, so the owner was so nice to us, instead kayaking we rented a boat with discount. We went out grab our lunches to go and had an amazing time on the boat, it is enough time to go around the harbor with one hour window, rent a boat for an hour for $65, and you can bring your entire family out on the boat they have different sizes for different amount of people. You can bring drinks, food and smiles. There are different size boats, with different costs, or you can rent a paddle boat too, kayaking and ext. You take the boat out and go around the harbor, through the beautiful waterfront homes and canals it will take more than an hour, but its worth it. Come and enjoy an early morning a nice little escape for a short time. It was a great experience, and I'd definitely come back. Thank you again for your hospitality. read more

Under new management - and what a difference! We have rented Hopper boats for many years and it just kept going down hill. We heard the business transferred ownership and hoped change would be evident. Saturday last, seven of us went on a 2-hour harbor cruise. The boat was clean, quite, had new cushions and screens. Have gone a couple of times, most recently during COVID. Everything is very well kept & the staff is nice no matter how busy they get. If you're going on a weekend you might have to wait a while but worth it. Not too much traffic around there, you do have to watch out with some boats (some are rude & wont really want to move for you) but there's different routes to take so overall worth it. Definitely one of the more affordable spots out here too, always my go to. read more

My husband rented an electric boat for our family for 4th of July and we had the absolute best time. I can't say enough good things about this company. They're friendly and professional, return calls quickly and I felt safe during the COVID-19 pandemic to use their service because they disinfect all of their boats and life jackets after each use and you are required to wear masks up to the dock to check in and during the instruction for how to operate the boat. Their rates are reasonable and they provide life jackets for children which are required. We had a baby and a toddler with us and this was such a great activity. I highly recommend this company for a boat rental in Channel Islands. We will for sure be back! read more

So much fun! We did two hours and recommend the same, it went by so quickly. They offered us blankets since there was a slight chill. Amazing. Hands down highlight of our fsmily vacation. A small staff of 3 and very friendly. Driving the electric platoon boat was a huge plus. This was a fun electric boat ride around the Channel Island Harbor. The boats at Hopper's are much less than their competitor and basically the same thing. We called ahead and they said they would have a boat available in two hours. We showed up a little early to fill out paperwork and we were off on our boat. The staff was very friendly and chill. This harbor is much bigger than Ventura. In Ventura one hour was perfect, but here you may need two hours to really see it all. Bring your own drinks and snacks. read more

I have been using this rental place for years, and have loved them. Until yesterday. We had a ton of guests over for the holiday who wanted to rent kayaks, SUPS and boats. We showed up at 10:00am (the time it is suppose to open) and proceeded to wait 45 mins. No one ever showed up. There were 4 other groups waiting to rent to and no one ever came, they all left as well. We called the number a few times and it went straight to voicemail. We were all so bummed and frustrated that no one showed up. Some of the group went today and told them what had happened and he didn't even apologize or offer any sort of discount or coupon for the inconvenience. I hope they get their act together because I have been recommending them to everyone. Very frustrated. read more
