I love this place. It's kind of a Boujee bar on Tumwater Hill. The food is always amazing. Our servers are great every time. The lighting is dim and perfect. We went for New Year's Eve to start the night with an appetizer. Their Brisket queso never disappoints. I would have given 5 stars but the 2 person band was AWFUL. Other than that Hops on the Hill is amazing.

BBQ Plate with all the fixings!

Hey Ya'll , Felt like I needed to greet you with some southern charm since this review is about BbQ! Hops on the Hill baby is for real! Nice bar pub style joint with nice selection of sitting. High tops, tables, or seat at the bar and watch the games. Looks like they also have a karaoke night or live music. Anyway, let's get to the food. We ordered a variety of food. Smoked Chicken wings with I believe is a house made ranch ooohh yeah! So good... the chicken was juicy grilled and smoked by a pro. Potato soup and grilled bread. Hmmm soup was creamy and hearty. Comes with all the fixings like cheese, bacon, etc yup. Making your mouth water! Next, was the bbq plate. They offer several sauces that you will have a hard time choosing which one is better. I chose the sliced brisket and chopped brisket for my daughter. The sliced brisket was juicy, easy to cut, full of smoky flavor, and nice thick cut. I keep telling you all that PNW is coming through with their bbq. This plate came with sides. I chose potato salad & baked beans. All of it a hit sheesh. Also has a side of pickles and white onion with slices of white bread. But what was really special is their cole slaw and cucumber salad! I never tasted anything like this. It was zesty, fresh, and light. Perfect kick and seasoning. My hubby ordered seconds. We were so full he had to go walk it off. If you are in Tumwater please make it a part of your day or night to show some love to this great place. I know you will not be disappointed! Now check my pictures below. You're welcome!

Brisket sliders with cucumber salad. Absolutely delicious and flavorful!

Crazy good brisket queso. Like crack in a bowl. I could eat that stuff by the spoonful. The brisket is so perfectly seasoned and tender. A massive burst of flavor in your mouth and then the creaminess of the queso.... If ever I get the opportunity to have a "last meal", the brisket queso from Hops on the Hill would be a contender. I enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant. It's pretty chill and relaxing. Nice, simple rustic feel. And the service has always been consistently good. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the area.

I literally just had the most amazing meal here, it's hard to find good quality food anymore, I often leave places thinking .." God that was gross" not here, it smells so good when you walk in, they smoke their meats in house and let me tell, they know what they're doing here. I'm super picky. I had the brisket dip with mac n cheese as a side, it was absolutely perfect. 100% will be making this my goto for going out to eat. Oh and I also I had the queso and chips the other day "amazing ". Best service ever by the wonderful bartender Becky.

    I. Love. This. Place. I seriously try to spread the love around but I can't help but find my way back here at least twice a month. (I could make it here 5 days a week since I live up the street). I have to try to NOT come here more often. I work in a restaurant, full disclosure... but dammit the French 75 and PULLED PORK are AMAZING! It's casual and neighborhoodihsh. Everyone that works here is great with handling the business regardless of busy or slower times... knowing when to engage with guests and when to let you enjoy your time alone. I appreciate how hard you all work to make sure everyone is happy. Special mention to the Caesar salad. Sorry I didn't get pictures this trip. I was hungry.

We went here for the first time and it was decent. Im unsure if they have AC, as it was muggy in there but not too bad. There was only us and one other group and we had to constantly ask if we needed something so not the best service however the food made up for it! I would like to go back for karaoke or the events they have to offer. The happy hour was impressive too! I'd say give it a try if you are local! :)

Cute little spot. I had the smoked turkey sandwhich was very flavorful. Sandwhich came with 1 side so I got Mac n cheese. That was a little dry. My favorite sauce of theirs was the Carolina. They do not brew their own beer but plenty of local options.

Very small place but large on flavor. The BBQ brisket sandwich (on brioche) was delicious. They have 3 flavors of BBQ sauce: tex-mex, carolina, and spicy. Spicy was my favorite. Waitress was very friendly. The mac and cheese side (7oz) was okay. It was kind of dry. Wish it was hotter and cheese was softer. All in all 4/5.

Half Rack of Ribs, creamed corn and cornbread muffins

I don't usually review a place after one visit, but we tried a lot of the menu and staff were great! If I recall correctly, there were 3 employees (all male) working. All three were super chill and engaging. My date commented on how friendly our server was without feeling fake. Totally agree. I would totally be his neighbor. Anyway. Food. What you really wanna hear about. Nachos - so yum! I would come here just for nachos and a beer. I will say, don't bother paying extra for brisket. There wasn't much on there. Pulled pork - so yum! Not dry and good flavor Half rack of ribs - I'm assuming they were delicious because he didn't offer to share lol Creamed corn - pretty yummy! Potato salad - meh. Not my favorite. But you might like it! Mac n cheese - dry and not very flavorful. Ate it with my pulled pork and it added life to it. Cornbread muffins - you get two! They sounded hard. :/ He said they were dry and only ate one. Meats were out of this world! Sides were ok. Great tap list. Chill atmosphere. I'll definitely be back. (They have other sides to try and I'm optimistic!)

To my surprise, the place was packed with customers on a Sunday afternoon. I expected a slower pace, but it was anything but. The atmosphere was lively, with people playing pool and enjoying themselves. One of the unique features of this pub is a table game that many of you may not be familiar with. It's called Table Shuffleboard, and it's one of my favorites. I've played it a few times in Alaska, and it's a great game. To play, you simply request the pucks from the servers, and it's a lot of fun. I highly recommend checking it out if you're in the area. We ordered a couple of beers, which were fairly decent. I had the Irish Death, and my friend opted for some of the commercialized beers like Blue Moon. They also ordered some wings, which they said were very good. They recommended that if you want extra crispy wings, you should have them fried hard. The sweet potato fries were cold, but the bartender was quick to take care of that. She brought us a fresh batch in a matter of minutes. The customer service was excellent throughout our visit. I'm giving this pub a three out of five stars. I'd like to come back and try some of the food, especially in the game day environment. I'm a vegetarian, so I didn't eat much of the food we had, but I'll definitely come back and try it again. I'll also come at night to see how it is before I consider upgrading the rating. Overall, I'll be returning to this pub for a second experience.

I ended up calling (twice - nobody answered the first time) and got an order over the phone. I headed down there and the first thing I noticed is that the building needs work. There is a tin roof siding kind of thing along the entire front of the restaurant. It is old. Paint coming off. Not a good sign. Went into the bar as I didn't realize there was a separate bar and restaurant. I didn't see any signs showing that. I was directed by a bartender to go to the other side to get my order. A very nice blonde girl was there and went to bagging my order getting my chowder and everything else which took 5 to 6 minutes. It was over $64 with the tip. Got back to my hotel room to try my french dip. Problem is, they forgot the dip - no au jus. It is just warm roast beef in a bun. No flavor. Nothing to it. I couldn't even finish a half of it. The tater tots were bad. Half were soggy. No seasoning. No flavor. Not worth eating. The pickle was good, but wrapped in a napkin kind of thing that made my hands messy trying to unwrap it to eat it. Next up was the clam chowder. It was yellow, so I assumed it was a corn chowder. It is neither. It smells like a ham chowder and tastes like a vegetable/potato soup. It is very watery and had big pieces of celery and other veggies. I have no idea what this is supposed to be, but it is not a clam chowder. Finally, I got chipotle wings. They appear to have been a dry rub. I had hoped they either would come with a chipotle sauce to dip them in or they would be sauced wings. They were neither. Being a dry rub, they had a hint of chipotle flavor, but basically tasted like bare wings. My wife got a pasta bread thing of some kind. She had 4 bites and that was it. $64 for about 10 total bites of food. I hate to waste that money and throw away so much food, but I'd be doing homeless people a disservice by giving it away. To recap, building is old looking. Forgot an important part of one of the dishes. Soggy, unseasoned tots. Watery, "clam" chowder that that is really a potato/veggie soup, wings with almost no flavor - may as well have just asked for bare, unseasoned wings. Wasted $64.
