Stopped in Tumwater on our way to Seattle and decided to get a to-go order at The Brick. Tried to place an order online, but you can't after 8pm and it was 8:03pm. I ended up calling (twice - nobody answered the first time) and got an order over the phone. I headed down there and the first thing I noticed is that the building needs work. There is a tin roof siding kind of thing along the entire front of the restaurant. It is old. Paint coming off. Not a good sign. Went into the bar as I didn't realize there was a separate bar and restaurant. I didn't see any signs showing that. I was directed by a bartender to go to the other side to get my order. A very nice blonde girl was there and went to bagging my order getting my chowder and everything else which took 5 to 6 minutes. It was over $64 with the tip. Got back to my hotel room to try my french dip. Problem is, they forgot the dip - no au jus. It is just warm roast beef in a bun. No flavor. Nothing to it. I couldn't even finish a half of it. The tater tots were bad. Half were soggy. No seasoning. No flavor. Not worth eating. The pickle was good, but wrapped in a napkin kind of thing that made my hands messy trying to unwrap it to eat it. Next up was the clam chowder. It was yellow, so I assumed it was a corn chowder. It is neither. It smells like a ham chowder and tastes like a vegetable/potato soup. It is very watery and had big pieces of celery and other veggies. I have no idea what this is supposed to be, but it is not a clam chowder. Finally, I got chipotle wings. They appear to have been a dry rub. I had hoped they either would come with a chipotle sauce to dip them in or they would be sauced wings. They were neither. Being a dry rub, they had a hint of chipotle flavor, but basically tasted like bare wings. My wife got a pasta bread thing of some kind. She had 4 bites and that was it. $64 for about 10 total bites of food. I hate to waste that money and throw away so much food, but I'd be doing homeless people a disservice by giving it away. To recap, building is old looking. Forgot an important part of one of the dishes. Soggy, unseasoned tots. Watery, "clam" chowder that that is really a potato/veggie soup, wings with almost no flavor - may as well have just asked for bare, unseasoned wings. Wasted $64. read more

This was our second time here and just had to give it a shout out My favorite part is it's really fun cocktail menus and many TV's to watch the baseball games on. However, both times we were here the food was great too and service was top notch, meaning kind, present, informative and patient with us "old folks". Came here because Dennys was having a flooding problem down the street and were squeegeeing water out the door, so they were having a moment. Dad remembered that the Brick served breakfast. I'd never been, so why not. I'm having to do keto now, so it's a real hassle to find stuff to eat, but I ordered a omelet that had lots of meat and keto-friendly veggies and we replaced the toast and/or has browns with a garden salad and it was satisfying. The ground beef in the omelette was a little tough, so I assumed it was leftovers from something they made last night, but it tasted fine. This place is odd in that I've been here plenty on times and received great customer service. Other times so-so average service and then just downright not good service. You don't know what you'll get here. Which takes me to my experience yesterday. 1:30 in the afternoon. I came to meet a friend. I got there first so I walked in to grab a table for us both. Little did I know I had just walked in behind a party of 17 that was waiting to be seated. Okay, no worries, I'll wait a few minutes... (the party of people seemed just as confused because they kept doing a headcount of people and then telling the hostess how many men and women were in their party. Odd, but I digress) After the 17 top finally knew just how many people were in their party. They got sat. I said party of 2 and got seated immediately. After a few minutes I ordered a soda. Friend said she was running late. No worries, I'll order nachoes and chill. I got up to go to the restroom which was right next to my table. Left my sweater on the seat. I was gone no more than literally a minute. Walked the 2 steps to my table to find my sweater still there but the menus and my drink gone. So I sat and contemplated on what to do. After a few minutes or so, the waitress looks at me and says in a very sour kind of way, "I thought you left". Nope. Just used the restroom. Besides, I had a soda to pay for, why would I just leave? I understand if it's busy to keep on top of the tables but literally a minute and everything is cleared? She brought back my soda and I took the chance to order nachoes. They were unimpressive and tasted like disapointment. Covered in shredded cheese with only a few olives and green onions sprinkled throughout. With a tiny cup of salsa and sour cream. Friend finally arrived. All was well. Until she received her food. A French dip and it was burnt and also sad. I ordered the spaghetti to go, and when I said I wanted a Caesar salad as a side I didn't know that was an up charge for. Got home to find it was a few pieces of lettuce, a few croutons and a few sprinkles of cheese. I know a ceasar salad isn't some culinary marvel but it was just, very disappointing. I want to like this place but it's so up in the air what kind of service you'll get. On a trip here last year, I ordered the mushroom and Swiss burger with a veggie patty and it was outstanding! I saw another server snapping at tables. She told them she wouldn't refill their glasses (even though they paid for drink with refills). Our server did refill out glass and thank goodness. Very disappointing pizzas. Ordered take out - the thick as a brick pizza, paid for extra sauce and cheese, did not get either. The cheese was nonexistent and the pizza was dry. This pizza usually comes with cherry peppers on it, as it states on the menu. Our pizza came with jalapeños instead and it did not meld well with the rest of the toppings. 2nd pizza was the taco pizza. Also very disappointing, it was so bland and underwhelming, very scarce toppings. I don't know if they put any cheese on either of the pizzas. If I could rate 0 stars I would. 5 star ratings are seen more and I think people should know who they are giving their money to. My fiancé and I moved back to Washington a couple months ago because we ended up getting pregnant with our first and wanted to come back home and be close to family. That being said I was desperate for a job. Not just to support my family but I enjoy working and with my pregnancy symptoms being almost nonexistent I was and still am ready to work happily up until my son is born. And only then would I have asked for the minimum requirement of 6 weeks off. The Brick was suggested to me by a friend saying quote, "they are desperate for people right now. If you walk in today I'm positive he will interview you and offer you the job". And that's exactly what happened. I walked in asked for the owner and was sat down for an interview almost immediately. The interview went great in my opinion. I started off with the usual and told him about myself and how I wouldn't need any training as I have 3+ years of bartending skills from dives to larger restaurants to hotels. Mike and I talked a lot about what makes a successful, smooth running restaurant. The only information I didn't offer about myself was that I was pregnant. Mainly because I was 5 months at the time and very noticeably pregnant. And maybe that is my mistake but after hearing more about Mike from past employees to customers I don't think telling him I was pregnant would have made a difference. Anyways, after the interview he shook my hand and welcomed me to the team. He told me I would receive a message from him later that evening after he was able to write me into the schedule and that I would most likely start work within the next couple days. Then we stood up. He looked directly at my belly, then we made eye contact and then he looked back at my belly. His demeanor immediately changed and I knew he was second guessing. Probably thinking less of me and that my work wouldn't be as excellent as I described because I was pregnant. Which is just not true. I rushed the goodbye convo and told him I am excited to hear back from him and go over my schedule. He didn't even give me a chance to prove myself. He messaged me the next morning stating he had changed his mind with a bullsh*t excuse that he was just too busy with "training". I didn't let it bother me because I know he would be missing out on someone with incredible work ethic and an all around good personality proven to bring back customer after customer. After working in this industry for quite awhile and dealing with some of the most awful behavior I guess I shouldn't expect anything more. Coming from a man this wasn't shocking to me but it definitely doesn't feel good being discriminated against for something we as women have proven cannot stop us from continuing to work hard. Before you spend your money on overpriced, mediocre food, in an off-putting restaurant with sad, basic art, remember this. If you've made it this far thank you for your time. I came to this subpar establishment on vacation visiting with my grandfather and best friend (21), expecting to have wonderful meal and drinks. We were coldly "greeted" by a server, Faith S., who told us to wait rather than saying Hi. When we were finally walked to our table, Faith asked us what we wanted to drink before we even had the chance to sit down. We said we needed a second to look at the menu... we were not given a second as Faith silently stood at the end of our table After we ordered, Faith asked to see our IDs. As requested, we both handed her our valid driver's license, she took mine and handed it back, she took my friend's and said she'll be right back with it. As she walked away we noticed that she was practically bending my friend's ID in half in her hand. When she finally came back she said that they are unable to serve my friend an alcoholic beverage, without reasoning. When we asked why, she said the bartender felt "uncomfortable" with my friend's ID, with no accompanying details. We instructed her to scan the ID, as it is, in fact, a valid Oregon State drivers license. She replied by saying that they don't have a scanner, and that she is "just doing [her] job". Following this unpleasant conversation with the ignorant waitress, we all decided to leave the restaurant due to the irksome experience. As we were standing up to head out, Faith brought out our drinks and demanded that we pay, never-minding the fact that we hadn't even touched them. But, as a respectable customer does, we paid the $16 for our drinks without contest. On our way out, I turned to Faith and advised that the establishment should purchase an ID scanner, due to the fact that as of now, the bartender picks and chooses who they serve based on their comfortability which is extremely unprofessional. However, Faith responded to this by yelling at our backs as we exited the building, "MAYBE YOU SHOULDN'T BRING FAKE IDS" in front of several other customers, including children, waiting to be seated and served. This unpleasant experience has cause my grandfather, who was once a regular, dining frequently with several guests accompanying, to reconsider his one of his favorite dining spots. As for my friend and I, we will never be back. I hope Faith's employment is reconsidered. read more

We were told the Brick had a good breakfast ..... We both had the Southern Scramble. One with hashbrowns and one with home fries and they both looked delicious. I took a bite of potato, and it was good, then a bite of onion/pepper and it had a strange flavor like something had been cooked on the grill before. I tried a second bite of onion/pepper with potato and could still taste a strange flavor. I then tried 2 bites of the gravy, and it was so bad that I told my husband to just pay for the meal and let's go someplace else. Because of time limits we picked at potatoes only and we asked for a ticket. Sad because of appointments it was hours before we had a chance to eat. NOW no matter what we would have insisted to pay full price and that would have been the end of it....but when ordering we mentioned we were starved yet was obvious we had not touched the eggs/sausage/biscuit/gravy. The only reason I am writing the review is because she didn't say something to us...not... is it OK, sorry you didn't like it...she didn't say one word. The bill was $41.66 and because she didn't comment in anyway we only left a $5 tip. Again, even if she had tried to give us a discount we would have paid full price, but to say nothing ...that is like a slap in the face to us. Sad now because of her saying nothing I am writing this as just because we thought the food was awful doesn't mean that others might not like it so I would not have written a review. I'm a fan of The Brick at night, this was my first attempt at joining for breakfast and what a huge disappointment. I didn't even get as far as being seated. ZERO guest service! 10am on a Sunday and they were not busy (that is suspect to me). A lady told me "we will be with you shortly"... no smile, nothing welcoming about her AT ALL. I waited for almost ten minutes just standing there by myself. Several other employees walked by me without a smile or greeting. I finally just walked out. I have no desire to spend my money where my business isn't welcome. My family has often ordered to go for dinner and we get the same order every time. Two Bacon Western Burgers and one Chicken Burger. The portion size and quality often vary. Sometimes, I even get the wrong side but it is usually ok? Not enough to complain about. Today, though we got three chicken burgers. We did not order three Chicken Burgers. We ordered our usual order. When we called, we were told by two individuals that the Bacon Western Burger was a chicken burger. The second person even told my father that there have been no recent changes to their menu. So, I suppose that the current menu on their website (screenshot and attached) is wrong and the last time we went was the last time there was a Bacon Western Burger and not Bacon Western Chicken Burger. OR two staff members straight up lied to my father. On the phone. In front of me. The second staff member also told my father they would talk to their manager (I think the second staff member was in a supervisor or something) and call him back to see what they could do. As of writing this it has been just about 61 minutes since the end of that phone call and there has been no follow up. Also my mother had a piece of plastic on her fries. Small, green, but definitely plastic. Mistakes happen. I understand that. The problem is lying about it. That was so disrespectful and unprofessional. I created a yelp account just to write a review about this. Hate that one of the most consistent places we get take out (2-3 times a month) is not going to be an option for us moving forward. My mom and I have been coming here anywhere from 1 to 3 times a week over the last year and a half. We occasionally have issues with the food or service. However over this time we finally got a few good servers that have been great. They are upbeat, happy, friendly, provide great service, and when something is wrong with our food they are on top of it. Last week we went in and asked if we could get one of their sections and were told no, that they had to seat us in order of the section who was next. This was where our service and food went down hill. The server was not upbeat or smiling. Was not very attentive. Wrote.pur food.order on paper where usually the other staff put it in a little kiosk. We got our food and shortly after we.stafted eating I noticed an issue with my calzone. (Our regular servers can recite the order from memory). I ordered.meat sauce and got marinara.with meat added inside the calzone. I ordered chicken and after ope ingredients up half of it I did not see any chicken. Took me 10 minutes to flag down our server. When she came over I pointed out the issue and she took it back to have them remake it. She then came back and started to argue with me that they found chicken in one corner of the calzone but it wasn't spread out but they would replace it because they screwed up the meat sauce. I emailed the owners through their website about the service, food, and complained that we were told we couldn't get the servers we wanted. As of today I never received a reply. Tonight, my mom and I decided to come in tonight off our weekly scheduled outing and decided.to sit in the bar for the first time and we're planning on playing pull tabs while there. We saw our server from the week before but were greeted by another lady. She took our drink orders and came back 5 minutes later telling us we have been banned from coming there due to an issue from the previous week. The owners didn't even have the balls to come talk to us personally and had our server who was mind you flabbergasted and very apologetic who had to give us the news we were no longer welcome. We have given this place a year and a half of our visits. Not just us but other family who join us on occasion. Now.we are no longer allowed to eat there. I would expect at the very least, the owners to come talk to us since they refused to respond to our email the week before. I have never left them a poor review because our regular staff always worked to resolve the issues when there were some. Since my Wife and I are new to Olympia we've been looking for new places to try and we decided to come here to the brick on Trosper. When we were seated we started with an appetizer which was the mozzarella sticks. They were 10 dollars for eight. They were perfectly cooked and the cheese had a great stretch. The only downside to the app was the sauce. The sauce was a little thick possibly a salsa consistency or even a dip consistency. My wife describe the texture as a little off putting. Despite that it had great flavor but also did not taste like the typical sauce you'd expect. (3 out of 5) As of entree's we ordered the Thick as a Brick pizza. It was 15 dollars for a small pizza (9in) it had good flavor and the jalapeño added a good spice to it. The crust had a good crisp to it but I thought it would've been a thicker crust by the name of the pizza. To be honest I'm not sure if it was worth the price. If I do go back I will be trying another pizza and will not base all of their pizzas one this one for maybe it just wasn't my style of pizza. (3 out of 5) The Cajun Jambalaya was unexpected to say the least. It was 19 dollars but the quantity was worth it. It was more than I can eat and had 3 types of meat in it. It had a pretty solid kick from all the spices and it was pretty good very creamy sauce next time I will as for more sauce. For me I wasn't a fan of the tails being left on the shrimp. The rolls that came with it were pretty dense and I'm not sure how I felt about it. They were good and the butter was butter. (4 out of 5) What came with the pasta was your choice of soup or salad. I chose the soup because it was the soup of the day and it was lacking. It was a fairly basic soup nothing special about it. It was a very simple basic vegetable soup. (2 out of 5) My wife got the thick as a brick pasta also for 19 dollars and in a huge quantity. Same type of roll as the other pasta. I tried a little bit and it was alright. My wife liked it but wish she had gotten the pesto pasta instead. The flavor was good and it did have a good sauce but was just missing something to make it pop. (3 out of 5) As before you get to choose from the soup of the day and a salad. My wife chose the salad and it was small and pretty basic. It was mainly a few pieces of lettuce and some ranch. (1 out of 5) Our service was good. Our waitress was nice and friendly. (4 out of 5) Overall I will be returning here to try different items of the menu. It's said that a good test of a chef's skill is to ask them to cook an egg because if they can't cook a simple dish well, they probably can't cook a complex dish at all. In this regard, The Brick fails miserably. I ordered a cheese omelet and country potatoes. The eggs and potatoes were both overcooked and the onions and peppers (the country part of country potatoes) appeared to have been microwaved and added as an afterthought. It's been a long time since I saw such an apathetic attempt at a remarkably easy and simple dish. You might think, well, maybe it was crowded. It was not. Additionally, the table smelled of mildew, suggesting they don't even know how to manage their cleaning supplies. On a positive note, the waitstaff weren't entirely unpleasant if you're into brusque service. Over the last 2 years I have been using their to go service almost weekly, sometime multiple times a week. Sadly within the last few months the service has gone downhill. Snarky attitudes, consistently wrong orders, even found hair in my food. And then today, I took a bite of my salad and bit into a nut. No, not a nut you eat, this is a nut that goes to a screw or a stud. It is metal and looks to be about 10mm in size. I chipped one of my molars. So, that's my review. I came in with my friends for a drink on 3/2/24. We hadn't been to this location before and were served by Lilly D (who didn't introduce herself and we only found out when she asked if we wanted our checks). We asked about happy hour drinks and attempted to order margaritas. After asking if they were on the happy hour menu she said oh no they're not. We asked how much they cost and she rudely said let me check. When we asked how much a beer was she didn't respond. The place was empty and she acted like she didn't hear us. We again asked the question and she said it depends on the beer. One of our margaritas tasted off and we asked for white sauce to go with an appetizer. This request also made this employee act like we were asking her to go above and beyond. One of our friends was trying to pay with tap to pay. Lilly became irritated and huffed and said under her breath, "I'll just go ahead and comp your food." Bait & switch. I ordered Southern scramble. A split biscuit, 2 scrambled eggs, 2 sausage patties, & gravy. I ordered with the gravy on the side. The plate came & looked good except only 1 sausage pattie cut in half not 2 sausage patties. The waitress said the patties were so big the kitchen cuts them in half. If I ordered a meal that says 2 of something is included I should receive 2 of that something. read more

Unfortunately, I have to give it two stars because I got sick after I ate there. And I am still sick. It's been two days. I ordered the pasta with chicken and broccoli, but there was no broccoli. The pasta was dry and there was an oily substance at the bottom. The chicken looked old and was rubbery. There were a few shrimps thrown in, so that was good. It had some garlic chopped up and some type of stringy cheese, mixed with the oil that I could not identify. It smelled like dirty old socks from a locker room. The salad was a basic salad with a few chunks of tomato and croutons thrown on top with ranch dressing. The best thing about this place was the service. It was outstanding. The waitress was awesome. As a mailcarrier, we have very little to no time at all to use the restroom. This morning I went into the Brick restaurant wanting a cup of coffee Togo and also use the restroom. They didn't have to go cups so no coffee. As I went back to my truck the owner was there waiting for me and informed me " do not use my place as just your bathroom, go across the street to the gas station. " I couldn't believe it. I will no longer come to this period if this is the way he treats people who r just doing a public service. Shame on him!!!!! read more
