Hands down the best children's Dentist office in the area, or even in the East Bay in my opinion. I have a 22 year old and two littles one, ages 9 and 5, and wow do I wish I knew of this office when my 22 year old was little. My 22 year old had a lot of work done recently on his teeth because it was always so hard to get him in the dentist office growing up, no matter what I bribed him with. Unfortunately, we had a lot of catching up to do because of this. Now, my younger children literally get out the car and run in the office as if we are going to meet their friends somewhere fun for a play date. This is AMAZING, as I know how dreadful a dentist visit can be from experience. The office personnel are extremely friendly, the office is super clean, and Dr. Zaeni is extremely professional, honest and knowledgeable. I found them a few years ago when my middle child had a tooth issue that had been infected and I have never looked back. They treated him with such calmness and respect no matter how bad/good the situation was. I take them here regularly now for their annual cleanings. They are extremely thorough without over diagnosing. Their bedside manner is superb, not making us parents feel some type of way when discussing a plan to get our children's teeth on track. They meet you where you are and support you to keep our littles teeth cleaning and upkeep appropriate and approachable. I truly found a gem Dentist right in my back yard. How lucky is my family! Beautiful office located close to the Clayton border. We were originally elated to find this office and loved that they accepted Delta Dental. I have been bringing my daughter here since she was about 10 months old. However, 3 weeks ago, my daughter fell at the beach. A few days later, I found a deep cut above her top front tooth and called these folks for an appointment. They were kind and scheduled us right away which was so appreciated. Once onsite, everyone was kind, the office was beautiful and the assistant took an xray of my daughter's tooth. Then we met with a filling doctor because Dr. Zaeni was out on vacation in Iceland. Well, this doctor looked at my daughter's xray and said that the tooth looked healthy, then she quickly flipped my daughter's top lip and said it had to be extracted. I thought I was going to die. My entire body started shaking and all I could hear was this doctor saying it's ok- kids lose teeth all the time. Well, maybe if you're in the dental profession. But I spend a significant amount of time with kids and rarely see 3 year olds walking around this way. I tried to explain to her that the gum flaps and that I didn't see any puss balls or anything indicating infection. So she asked me to show it to her using my dirty hands, not even her instruments. I asked about prosthetics and she said kids push them out with their tongue and it's not worth it- she strongly recommended pulling the tooth right away, as to not infect the other teeth and adult teeth. So I left in tears, worried about my kids future and a prescription for amoxicillin. So I went home and talked to my mom who is a dental assistant. She recommended calling them back and asking more questions. So I called back and talked to this doctor again. She again insisted on taking the amoxicillin right away and pulling the tooth asap. There was no other solution! Well I gave my daughter the amoxicillin, but also called 5 other pediatrics dentists in Concord, Danville, Oakland, Berkeley and SF. Let me tell you, all 5 of these pediatric dentists concurred that the tooth is healthy for now and there is absolutely no reason to pull it. Also the amoxicillin is not needed, but since I started it, I had to finish giving it. Now my daughter is fine, but has taken antibiotics for absolutely no reason and has an upset stomach. Please note that I also took her to the regular pediatrician and that doctor also confirmed that she didn't see any sign of infection in her mouth. So 6 doctors total have confirmed that this doctor did not do a thorough job and prescribed medication haphazardly. I hope Karma gets you. I completely believe that this doctor saw a vulnerable stay at home mom and thought she could make a quick buck for her boss and make herself look good. Therefore, I absolutely do not recommend this office. If you care about your child, I hope you come to this office knowing that they have been negligent in our case and may be providing you with a false diagnosis as well. read more

My eight year old had her first cavity procedure and Dr. Zaeni and Jessica were amazing! They were so kind, patient, and made her feel comfortable from start to finish. Kya loved being able to pick a movie to watch during the procedure. The extra touch that meant so much was Dr. Zaeni texting later that day to check on her. I initially made an appointment for my 7 year old daughter , but my 11 year old boy was with us as well . He has always hated the dentist & always begs me to reschedule the appointments & gets really anxious when he's in the dentist office . He had some x-rays done on his last dentist appointment about 2 weeks ago , and he absolutely hated it . He said he will never go to the dentist again . When I saw how well Jessica , one of the nurses , was treating my 7 year old daughter , I kept telling my son that maybe he should be seen there as well . He insisted he did not want to , but we did it anyway . He cried and was angry , but Jessica was amazing ! so amazing , that my son wanted her to also do his cleaning . They were able to fit him in right then and there ! Now , my son , who HATED the dentist , says he will even walk to concord from El Sobrante if he has to , just to be seen at this location . My children used to be patients of Hopscotch, they were under the care of Dr. Zaeni. The reason I am giving them a 1 star is for the lack of quality care. I brought up the issue that my 5 year old was experiencing a lot of pain, since she was grinding her teeth. I felt terrible seeing her in pain every time she ate because she had ground a lot of her tooth down. Dr. Zaeni recommend a mouth guard, which I bought for $500, keep in mind this mouth guard wasn't even molded for her teeth, almost looked like a mouth guard you would use for sports. I bought it because she recommend it and I wanted my daughter to have some relief. I then went to two orthodontist, one in Mexico and one in the states and they both said they would not recommend the mouth guard for my daughter since she is still growing. I called the office and said I know I can't get my money back, but maybe some type of credit. The office said this was not possible. I never went back to that practice. Luckily, my former dental office was back in network with my dental insurance. I would not recommend this practice given my experience. read more

I loved taking my kids to hopscotch for the first time! The staff are what made this experience a 5/5 but it didn't hurt how clean and open the space was. Everything is brightly colored and seems modern. They have fun toys and tvs for the kids while we wait (which wasn't long at all btw). My daughter was so nervous anticipating her visit but as soon as we got there she relaxed and forgot about her nerves. The dental assistants were so welcoming and friendly and professional. Also the doctor was fantastically quick and so friendly as well. They gave my kids age appropriate toys at the end which just sealed the deal for them! They are still playing with them days later. My 4 year son and 10 year old daughter had a great experience today. I let them know ahead of time my son has high anxiety and would need extra TLC. Jessica was super patient and friendly with my son and made sure my son was comfortable every step of the way. The Dentist really took her time to go over my sons cavities and her recommendations. This was the only place I can find that accepts medi-cal that also uses laughing gas instead of just injecting the numbing medicine in the gums. I came from San Leandro and it was worth the trip. This is by far the best kid friendly dentist I've ever seen. Wish we had dental offices like this when I was a kid. I'm so glad I get to take my son to a place like this. He went in and got two small cavities filled. He said it didn't hurt At all and that he loves going to the dentist. I was so happy and pleased as a parent knowing my son had a pleasant experience. I got to sit there in the enclosed area while he was getting his treatment. The assistant was fantastic she kept making sure my son was ok and applied chapstick a few times during the treatment to make sure he didn't walk out with cracked lips. This review is long over due! I found Hopscotch Children's Dental by word of mouth about 2 months ago. I wish I would have found this place sooner. At every appointment she has had her name on the blackboard outside and that right away made her excited to come in. As you walk into the lobby it screams kid friendly. They have little furniture, games, TVs, books. Even the decor! We left the appointment with a picture with "my first visit" and a good bag; new tooth brush, toothpaste, dental floss and a timer. Now for the staff. The receptionist is friendly and knowledgeable herself. The dental assistants have all been so amazing with my daughter. They all explained to her what they would be doing BEFORE they started anything. During they would show my daughter every tool and what it does before using it. Now for Dr. Zaeni. I cannot express my gratitude enough! She has been so patient and understandable. Her main concern was getting my daughter to be comfortable and at ease to change her perspective about dental visits and she did just that. From the first visit she made me daughter feel comfortable and at ease. But I waited to right this review until after her major procedure, a couple fillings and two extractions. My daughter has NO IDEA she even got a shot (she had four I believe) she completely trusted Dr Zaeni throughout the procedure. Dr. Zaeni went step by step during the procedure and before she started once again explained and showed my daughter all the tools and let her know nothing would be painful aside from a little pressure here and there. My daughter had no clue she had two teeth pulled until we were leaving and they gave her her teeth for the tooth fairy! We were on the road to anesthesia just to take care of her dental health. Dr. Zaeni and her staff completely changed how my daughter felt about the dentist. She is always eager to go to her appointments and see the staff and "be a big girl" To put it shortly I would definitely recommend Dr. Zaeni and the staff at Hopscotch Children's Dental. read more

Nice place, nice people but they keep overcharging for my kids appointments. 4 out of 5 appointments from may to September were overcharged. I received one refund check for 207.70. For 3 appointments. Now there's an overcharge for the 5th appointment of 21.25. I've spoke with the billing department and we've decided to always get a pre authorized letter from Delta dental to show the exact amount I should pay going forward to avoid any more overcharge/overpaying but I still got overcharged. My kids enjoy going here and they do good work but it's frustrating when I have to spend time calling my insurance company to confirm charges/payment. Then contacting billing at Hopscotch, then waiting for them to double check and confirm I was overcharged then wait for a refund check. Please double check your claim statements to make sure you pay the correct amount when coming here. read more

I took my son here for his first appt ever at just over a year old with 8 teeth. At the time I went which was mid April the waiting/play area was closed and only one parent was allowed to come in with the patient/child after both passing a temperature check. Dental assistant Stacy and Dr. Zaeni were super sweet and helpful. They told me they were both moms themselves which helped make me feel more comfortable. We did a very quick brush and exam and even though my son was not expecting the exam and cried a little he later left really happy with his balloon. We have a follow up appt in October. I wanted to share our experience regarding our most recent visit. Dr. Kritika recently joined their team, we had the opportunity to get some serious dental work done. Initially, one of my Twins was the only one scheduled for treatment and I was impressed with Dr.Kritika's way of working with my children. We were able to get work done for this Twin and moved on to the next Twin. After reviewing my other Twin's x-rays and she explained the need for an extraction on one tooth and a crown on the one right next to that tooth as well as a spacemaintainer. It seemed like a lot, so I was very hesitant to have any work done with this Twin. Mainly because she had a previous experience with extractions under oral sedation at another office; which left her somewhat traumatized. Dr. Kritika says that we can at least try and see if maybe she will cooperate and get everything done instead of the need to pay more for general anesthesia. So, we did and I was so surprised (in a good way) and proud that they got all the work that done! Dr.Kritika was quick and efficient. I love how she communicates everything to the children as well. We're just so happy and now we have one more person to look forward to seeing when we go to our routine visits. I highly recommend this place! I've actually referred a few already :) all still currently go here. read more
