The team at Shadelands Pediatric Dentistry has always been kind, thorough, knowledgeable and great with my kids. They recently exceeded their typical care while supporting my 10 year old daughter through 2 teeth extractions. She has a lot of anxiety around dentist/doctor visits and they handled her with care, clear expectations, age appropriate information and made her feel comfortable to proceed and complete the procedure. After it was over, she didn't believe that they had removed the 2 teeth! And as we drove home she said "that didn't even hurt! When I get my wisdom teeth removed when I'm 18 like you Mommy, I'll remind myself that when I had teeth pulled when I was 10 that it didn't hurt!" Switched to Dr. Melissa Lopez 5yrs ago after not a good experience at another pediatric dentist and so happy with her care. The staff is super friendly and they are all great with kids. Kids can be distracted with a tv show of their choice and they are throughout with cleaning. Melissa did a tongue release for my younger son and he no longer snores. We have taken our daughter here twice. Once when she was just over 1 years old and the other when she was just over 2 years old. Each visit has been a pleasant experience for my toddler and for us. My toddler usually HATES having her teeth brushed. Each night is a major struggle to get the job done, so I was fully anticipating this appointment to go south fairly quickly. But Denise was so patient, sweet, and interactive with my daughter that she let her clean all of her teeth with no struggling! She even let her floss and put on fluoride at the end! Dr. Lee was also really amazing and interacted with my toddler very sweetly and kindly. They also both answered questions and concerns I had regarding my daughter's dental care. It was great! My son LOVES going to the dentist thanks to Dr. Lee and Lwi! We also saw Dr. Lopez as well during one of his visits and she was also great! My son is 6 and used to hate going to the dentist until I found Shadelands. They are always so sweet to him and make sure he is comfortable and happy. When the visits are done my son is very sad because he actually does not want to leave! I drive 30min to come here because they are honest, it is clean, and they have amazing equipment here. The X-rays are much clearer than where we used to go which is great because I can actually understand what I am looking at when they explain things to me. I also appreciated how they will do their best to accommodate you if you have an urgent need. They call back when they say they will and do their best to work with your schedule. I never have to wait long in the waiting room either. My heart is so happy to have found this place and I do really love the people here. We love Shadelands Pediatric Dentistry. The entire staff is incredible from the front office to the dental assistants & the most incredible Dentists. Our 9, 6 & 3 year old never fight us to go because everyone makes them feel so comfortable. The cartoons on the tv at the chairs help a ton also. The dental assistants always go above and beyond to explain everything to my children each step of the way. The Dentists never rush through the appointments and give the best guidance when things come up like over bites that need to be sent off to ortho. We are very happy here! Dr. Lee was so sweet and great with her during such a tough visit (she needed a type of filling given how deep the chip was). Dr. Lee even called to check in on her later that evening. Chaotic is the word I would use to describe this office. We took our two kiddos here for about a year and consistently, ran into time management challenges with the office. One time, we waited 45 minutes passed our scheduled appointment time and when we were finally called back, there was no acknowledgement or apology issued (I'm guessing because it happens so frequently). Another time, they moved our appointment time up by 30 minutes without checking with me first. I got a call on my way to the office that they needed to reschedule me because I wasn't there yet (luckily, they did manage to get me in that day). I also find the receptionists to be rather cold. I did like our dentist, Dr. Lee, and the TV's with Disney Plus at each examination chair was helpful for the kids. Overall, I get the sense that this office is overwhelmed and the energy in the office and schedule adherence (or lack of) reflects this overwhelm. read more

Dr. Lopez did a laser tongue tie release on my seven month old and did Babylase (an advanced laser treatment) prior to the release. The laser is advanced technology, and the babylase helps release the fascia under the tongue, and can even avoid a surgical release if treated prior. We live out of the area so we couldn't do sessions of Babylase, but I would highly recommend it for other mommas out there. I was super nervous, I hate having anything done with my baby. However Dr. Lopez and her staff were very understanding and compassionate to my anxiety. Denise even treated me with Oralase which is a laser treatment that reduces pain, inflammation, and stress within the body. It definitely distracted me and helped ease my anxiety while my son was being treated. Due to Dr. Lopez using the laser my son is healing super fast and it has only been a week, he's out of pain as well and never showed much, if any, signs of discomfort even the night of the procedure. (He was giggling that same night). For those mothers out there that were told to do a tongue tie release at the hospital after birthing your baby, hold off from doing a clip and do the laser as soon as you can with Dr. Lopez. Especially when treated early, tongue tie releases can prevent feeding and latching problems, future airway issues, as well as speech issues. Releasing the restriction gives your baby the ability to move their tongue to the roof of their mouth so their jaw and palate will properly develop the way that they are meant to. If you are considering it, just get it done now when they are young, and it's easier to treat. It's the best choice for their health. I gotta come back and update my review here. I wanted to make sure I found a new place for my daughter's dental needs before sharing my latest experiences, so here we are. I am quite disappointed with Shadelands because I really thought with the exorbitant good reviews they have, that they'd be better than what has happened to us the last few times. Firstly, this place gave my daughter a ton of anxiety, and I don't necessarily know why. She would be like frothing at the mouth with how nervous and scared she was in the dental chair. I think maybe it had to do with them going straight into the dental exam, and using the really pointy/sharp tool right away. That one scares even me a bit and definitely feels really bad on my teeth. In the beginning, they used to try to sing things to her, like twinkle twinkle, while sort of holding her down and doing the exam lol. It was a nice attempt, but I think if it's obvious that's not working, probably try a different technique. Then when they finally did get to look in her mouth, I swear it was like tapping a few teeth and then being like that's it! She's good (or at least that's what it looked like from my end). They'd give her one single solitary tooth brush that would never last the 6 months until our next appointment, it was such bad quality. I remember, I asked if we could get a second one and they said no lol. Their gifts are pretty lame too, in my opinion. It's like they get to pick kid mouth wash or different flavor toothpaste? Or a toy. Not like she gets all of them. I would think the toothpaste or mouth wash would be included. All that aside, here are some of the absolute worst things about this place: 1) they make you pay for the visit before your child is seen. Based on my previous experiences, I know my kid may or may not let this exam happen. I explained that to them every time. Like why would I pay ahead when I don't even know if this is going to happen or not. 2) they tell you they'll refund you if something about the exam does not occur (for example, xrays. I knew my daughter would allow them to do xrays, but they still charged me). So I come out and tell them, "my daughter didn't do the xrays, I need to be refunded" (big surprise). They have to send me a check!!! They can't refund it back on the credit card. And no, they can't write the check right then, they have to wait a certain period of time before they can write it and send it. Fast forward 2 weeks and I still hasn't received my $140 or whatever it was. I had to call them and ask them to send me my money!!! No, the manager has to talk to you about it, so she'll call you back later. Omg. Like how much time have I spent on trying to get my own money back which I should never have been forced to part with in the first place? Manager finally calls me back, and apologizes and says she'll put on the notes that we pay at the end of the visit rather than the beginning, but at this point, it's too far gone. The opportunity to win us over as customers/patients was lost. I asked for that exact thing to be noted on her account several visits beforehand and it was always denied. Explaining to me "people don't always pay after the visit" blah blah. Well, that's not me, and having to jump through these hoops is a ridiculous way to get my refund. 3) the people in the front office are not friendly at all. You'd think working in a kids' dental office you'd be happy and try to cheer kids up. Not here! They always seem disgruntled and too busy to even acknowledge the kids. There's tons of toys to play with in the lobby, which is cool, but that's about where it stops. I'm sure everyone here is a nice and good meaning person, but sometimes you just miss the mark. And I do believe they've missed it here at Shadelands. read more

We just had our second appt with Dr. Lee for my 4 year old daughters filling. I wish I could give more than 5 stars. As we were leaving, I told Dr. Lee that she was a magician because of how wonderful the whole experience was. She's fun, sweet and interacts so well with children. My daughter was nervous and apprehensive prior to the appointments, but as soon as we started talking with Dr. Lee, she was totally comfortable. The office has a TV and plays Disney + for the kids, which was another win! During the appointment, my daughter was so relaxed that she even fell asleep. I took my daughter for her first ever dental visit and I was very happy with her overall experience. Upon going she was slightly nervous, but immediately she was relaxed with all of the friendly staff. My daughter is squiggly and nervous at the dentist. Our previous pediatric dentist wasn't able to put in a filling (after multiple attempts) and told us she would need to go under anesthesia. I was so worried about this! I am so happy that we found Dr.Lopez and Lwi they were amazing. We could tell from the first appointment that they made my daughter feel at ease but also took control and got her to calm down and do the filling only with the gas- no anesthesia needed! My kids, Grace and Maximus have been seeing Dr Lee since we moved to Walnut Creek towards the end of 2021. Everyone there is amazing and they work so well with kids and find ways to keep the kids calm and happy during routine checkups and dental procedures. Both of my kids have food allergies and the dental hygienists are always knowledgeable and ensure my kids use the allergy friendly varnish. Everyone from the front desk staff, the dental hygienists and Dr Lee are all so amazing and we really look forward to our visits. This was also her first time at the dentist (she's 2, but we had been delaying her first cleaning because of the pandemic). They got me in very quickly and were so great.
