This may be the best-looking cafe in Bloomington. Pretty nice design. Good coffee except filter coffee (their filter one is extemely dark roast, like drinking liquid soil, I cant explain). But a bit expensive and had a terrible food selection, especially the bakery (I don't know why their baker hates baking). Nothing to eat smth salty except plain bagel, everything with syrup. They close at 7 but start to clean at 6. They have really nice yard btw. Especially the spring and the summer. read more

I really loved the vibe of this place. It was colorful and they had a lot of really cool art. It was super clean and had plenty of seating for everyone. There was constantly a small line of people. So there might be a small wait but I only waited probably 5 minutes at most. Great environment to get some work done in. I got the mocha, which was pretty good. I also got a chocolate donut that they get from the rainbow bakery. I was not disappointed. The people that worked there were very friendly. Just a tip for if you a driving here, there is parking on both side of the building. The numbered spots are safe to park in. Overall good experience! read more

Hopscotch is a wonderful little coffee house off of the B-line. The atmosphere is far more subdued than one of the shops you might find on Kirkwood (even at its busiest.) First off, parking is pretty wonderful. It has its own parking lot (albeit rather small, but still no meters) and since it is situated close to Kroger and has a bike path with bike lock ups, it's incredibly easy to find a spot. Secondly, the atmosphere. Think Function or King Dough. Minimal and somewhat dark. It doesn't have the hole in the wall quality that you would get at, say, Soma but it has its own quirks. There is PLENTY of seating in doors and out and since you'll likely find most people on their laptops and cell phones with headphones/ear buds in, sharing seating when it's a little more cramped is usually perfectly fine. ALSO, it's quiet. Real quiet. More of a study space and reading corner, but it does aid to the casual conversation, I would just opt to sit outside on the patio (awesome patio with about 10-12 seats in various table top fashion) if you plan on playing catch up with friends. Thirdly, coffee and food choice. It's a coffee house. They can do just about anything and even include an option on their menu that says if you don't see what you want, just ask! They're great Baristas and likely more than capable of getting you what you want. As for me, typically a drip or espresso does the trick. They have great prices on these and have even better selections. What I find is they balance two choice drip coffees with one another to give both a darker and lighter option. As far as the food, I'm honestly not sure. They have a case of treats that look about like what you would find at any other coffee house so I can only imagine they're up to par as well. Lastly, and I will say perhaps this doesn't matter to alot of people, but the peoplez behind the counter. They're pretty wonderful here. Calm and laid back while being upbeat and inviting. I love, love, love tipping Baristas and will always do so since I consider what they deal with/who they deal with/when they deal with them pretty difficult, but some of the more centralized coffee houses like Soma (and even Pourhouse to some extent) very nearly ignore the customer doing the tipping. Just nice to feel welcome to come in, sit down, and actually enjoy the coffee and not feel rushed out the door like what you get at Starbucks. All in all, worth the trip and time to grab a cup here and take in the quieter side of Bloomington. read more

In my travels I'm always glad to see a cafe that has a roastery attached to it. Last time I was in Bloomington, the best coffee I could get was brewed coffee at Uptown Cafe or Runcible Spoon. This was in the 80s. I knew there had to be a place with great coffee/espresso and Hopscotch was it. I had a quad americano with half/half and the heartily recommended GF banana chip muffin. I will admit I am a high maintenance coffee drinker. Hopscotch makes a great soy cappuccino. When I splurge on coffee that's what I get. It's frothy and dry. When I get a latte it's the perfect amount of sweet - I don't get sick from it because it's subtle and well done. If you do like sweet I'm sure you could ask for more syrup. Great service - they've always been patient, kind, and regardless of how busy each employee I've had has been attentive rather than flustered or rude. They also have the best cinnamon and have some Rainbow gf treats (I'm a celiac but they also have gluten-filled treats). Again, I am not a connoisseur of coffee - but for specialty drinks I like that they make a good cappuccino and don't have overly-sweet lattes. read more

This is my go-to coffeeshop when I want to get some work done; I'm always pretty productive here. Hopscotch has people working on their laptops & reading, but you'll also see people chit chatting, playing board games, or just people watching. It is along the B-Line trail, so bikers & runners often stop in to hydrate and snack. Although the music and noise levels can be moderate level during peak hours, it is not loud enough to be completely unproductive. There is plenty of seating inside and out, with outlets for charging along the walls. There are all types of seating: Tables & chairs, high counters, low counters, & couches. My favorite drinks from here are the Americano and the Golden Milk with coconut milk. Their espresso is great as well. Out of the bajillion times i've been here, I have never gotten something I DONT like. So...you probably can't go wrong with anything! There are two single, gender-neutral bathrooms. They're clean and have good-smelling soap. I only gave it 4/5 stars because it is hard to find a seat when it gets busy, but that's a good thing for the business :) read more

Hopscotch is definitely in my top 3 favorite coffee shops in b-town. The notes of the coffee are pronounced, carmelly, and definitely fall on the side of a stronger Italian roast with slight notes of fruitiness. That being said Hopscotch can nail a latte and the coffee isn't fruity tea water, which seems to be an unfortunate trend on the coffee shop sector. They have trouble getting the milk hot so do order extra hot if you like your lattes searing hot like me. Also the staff are either really friendly or rather rude depends on the day. Seating in extremely hard as people do tend to linger for hours. They do have a nice patio where you can usually snag a seat if the weather is warmer. If you're a coffee shop snob/addict like me Hopscotch deserves a visit. read more

This place was recommended to me by literally everyone I talked to about Bloomington and Yelp agrees, but to be honest, I don't really get the hype. I had a mocha, and could barely taste the chocolate and the drink was weirdly spicy. The croissant I ordered was decent but nothing to write home about. Mocha and croissant together were $10 (!! And I thought Greyhouse in West Laf was pricy..). No seating on a Saturday around noon except on the patio which wasn't really an appealing option on this cold "spring" day, so I took my food and drink to go. My experience was less than three stars, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that I ordered the wrong thing or that it's a better experience when the weather is nice. read more

Overall, I really like this coffee shop! I stopped in with my grandmother on a Saturday afternoon and was surprised by how busy it was! Almost every table was full (mostly students working on their computers and a few people on coffee dates) but we managed to get a table at the back. First off, I was impressed with the temperature of the shop! I am used to always being cold and having to wear my coat in restaurants. When I saw there was no vestibule, I considered not staying because I didn't want to freeze. But it was surprisingly warm! I know this makes me sound like a grumpy old lady, but it really did make such a big difference to be able to relax and take off my coat! I was happy to see a white tea on their menu, and I really enjoyed it! My grandmother liked her black coffee. Have you ever walked into a place and suddenly realized you've always wanted it there? It's brand-spanking new, but I'm ready to say Hopscotch is my favorite Bloomington coffee shop. Right off of the B-line, Hopscotch sources its fare from a lot of places I can't find in other coffee shops, including the delicious Rainbow Bakery and syrups from Bea's Soda Bar. Add to that fantastic coffee roasted in house, and the menu alone is characteristically unique. The space itself is perfect for the standing worker at the bar in the back, the coffee date at one of the tables for two, the long-reader at one of the squishy chairs, and even small groups at the groupable tables, with plenty of outlets as needed. It's always justifiably crowded, being the only major coffeeshop in a high-demand part of town, but I'm excited to see if the opening of the patio in the warmer months alleviates this somewhat. read more

By far one of the best coffee shops in Bloomington. It's off the B-line trail, so if you're a local runner, you'll see it. Otherwise, plug it into your GPS. It's a really cozy atmosphere with a outdoor patio. They have everything for everyone as far as seating: couches, tables and chairs and a bar area. They serve your basic coffee beverages -- comparable to other coffee shops in town, but the service is much nicer here than others. It's quiet and not overrun by college students. This place is adorable! I was only visiting Bloomington, but my friend was in dire need of a Picolli Dolce pastry, which she was told could be found at Hopscotch. We were blown away by how quaint and comfortable this place was. There was a large patio with students working hard, families with kids and dogs playing quietly while their moms got their caffeine escape. The inside is bright and full of character. I don't drink coffee, but I chose a locally crafted honey blossom cream soda, which blew my brain apart with it's unique and refreshing taste. My friends ordered some coffee and were very pleased with whatever it was they had. They also sell beans that are fair trade certified. There were a lot of sweet and savory pastries made by local vendors for sake too. Prices were pretty reasonable in my opinion. This place felt so unique and really seemed to support other local businesses, which I am all about. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Coffee is prepared in pretty much any possible way you could think of and they've got a great selection of teas as well. It's small, but cozy and seats about 20 people inside. Isn't noisy and chaotic like some of the other coffeeshops in town; in fact, I'd feel comfortable saying Hopscotch is probably the best coffeeshop in Bloomington. Prices are great (refills are between 75-cents and $1) and they sell a ton of locally baked goods from Rainbow Bakery, Bloomington Bagel Co., Piccoli Dolci, and more. They've got their own parking lot too, but it's right on the B-Line trail which makes it convenient to stop by if you're just out and about. New coffee joint in Bloomington referred by my professors who love using Hopscotch's space to get some writing done because they don't blast loud music. Came here on a Friday morning and people were already at work. Love the location - right on the B-Line. Pastries are gourmet and delicious.My boyfriend and I had blueberry muffins that were delicious! I had a tasty cappuccino and my boyfriend had a mocha which tasted more chocolately than coffee-ish. I would definitely trek down here again on a warmer day because it is a good spot for some good local brew and the location is prime for Bloomington folks who want to get out of the college area on Kirkwood and want something quality off the beaten path. Let me first just say, this place is the best in Bloomington for coffee and pastries, you will not be disappointed! Second, my recent experience- I order a ginger flavored latte regularly at another coffee shop and I came in asking if they have something similar here at hopscotch. The sweet barista said they don't have that on their menu but very kindly offered to try to make what I requested and assured me if I did not like it, she would remake it or make me a drink from the menu. I was highly impressed with the service here! I ended up not loving the drink and she so happily replaced it with a lavender latte! Seriously cannot day enough how much I appreciate great service and I felt that me liking my drink was a priority and not a hassle. The Lavender latte and the Matcha smoothie are both incredible here! Also the donuts and pastries served here are equally delicious! The atmosphere and seating here at Hopscotch is lively and fun as it is located right of the B-line Trail and they offer both indoor and outdoor seating! I really, really like this place. I was in town for work and looking for a place to camp out for a few hours. Hopscotch looked like it was worth trying, and I'm glad I went. I got a $2 cup of chamomile tea, which - granted - is hard to mess up, but it was great and served in a just-right coffee cup. It was big, but not bulky, kept my drink warm forever, and had the cutest design on it. Those are all important when you're going to a coffee shop! I regret not picking up my own for home for $10. The free wifi was great, and their porch -- THAT PORCH Y'ALL -- is my new favorite spot in Bloomington. It overlooks the trail, and could use a few more outlets but regardless, it's wonderful. A perfect place to spend a few hours on a gorgeous spring day. Go in the afternoon and bask in the sunshine. Next time, I want to try one of their fancier drinks (which were still so reasonably priced). This is a must-stop shop. read more

I walked here for the first time this morning. Great location to sit outside and people watch on the B-line. I ordered an iced latte which was really yummy. I'm not a coffee connoisseur, but I could definitely taste that this roast had more character than what I'm used to getting at starbucks. It took me a few sips for my taste buds to adjust, but I really enjoyed the change of pace. The other thing that I liked was that their menu was very simple and easy to read, plus the prices were great (3.25 for a small latte). Not a ton of food options, and nothing baked in-house. Great space and location along the B line trail. It is nice to get away from the hustle and bustle close to campus. The server was efficient even though several people showed up at 7:00 am. I popped into Hopscotch recently because I was encouraged to try their tea. (I drink coffee cheerfully but I am a tea snob and take it seriously.) I love the atmosphere here. Friends meeting, greeting and chatting; people working or reading with a low gentle comfortably pleasant hum. Lots of laptops were out. My tea was made with boiling water as a black tea should be and milk was available as requested. I sat on the porch in the fresh air and to keep an eye on my bicycle while reading a while.
