Really liked it! I really chose this place for dinner because I wanted bubble tea, and the bubble tea was good but the food was the highlight. The menu is very vegetarian-friendly since you can choose tofu as a protein for most entrees, and even vegan-friendly since they have nondairy milk options for drinks and some entrees can be easily customized to be vegan (order with tofu/no meat and remove egg). I got a matcha latte with brown sugar crystal boba and the Pattaya pineapple rice. Matcha latte: The matcha was decent - it had the flavour of matcha latte mix rather than pure matcha, but it wasn't unpleasant, and it was strong. I like the brown sugar crystal boba as a topping - the flavour is very similar to brown sugar tapioca boba, but it doesn't sit as heavy. It's a different kind of chewy than tapioca, but it's close enough that it basically gives the same kind of experience as regular tapioca boba in a drink. Pattaya pineapple rice: Really good! The rice was well-seasoned and the pieces of juicy pineapple and raisins added some sweetness that contrasted very nicely with the curry-spiced rice. They have 5 spice levels (mild, medium, hot, extra hot, Thai hot). I usually went for medium heat when I lived on the west coast, but since this is the Midwest, I tried "hot" and found it had a bit of a kick, but the heat was still secondary to the other flavours, so it was the right choice for me. Very good service. The waiter was very friendly and attentive without hovering - he came by at just the right times. My drink and food came out not too long after I ordered. The place is nice. Like the other restaurants in this area, it's situated in a small house-like building. The atmosphere feels down-to-earth. For Bloomington, Indiana, this place is a decent choice. I've found that ethnic food in Bloomington often leans toward milder flavors, and this spot is no exception. Blooming Thai recently relocated to a new spot on 4th Street, and the seating capacity is similar to their previous downtown location. While it's not my top pick for dining out, it's a reliable option if you're craving Thai food--though I rarely find myself in the mood for it. I typically only visit Thai restaurants when someone else suggests it. Maybe if the flavors were bolder and more authentic, I would be more enticed in going. This review is based on several visits to Bloomington Thai, beginning with our first visit on their final day at their previous location. We realized what a gem of a restaurant this was and we were thrilled to see them re-open in their cozy location on Fourth Street. Unlike several other Asian restaurants in Bloomington, Blooming Thai prepares each boba and other drinks as they are ordered -- no prepackaged stuff here. Everything we have eaten on the menu has been delicious and is presented well, just as in a food magazine. Prices are in line with you'd expect to pay and the service always comes with a smile. Any reviews you see elsewhere from disgruntled customers obviously are based on those folks individual temperment. We have always felt at home here, being served on by a gentleman whose first goal is please the customer. They do stick to their menu and recipes, so to suggest an menu item adjustment really should lead you somewhere else that doesn't produce authentic Thai cuisine. So glad this Bloomington staple is back! Fresh Thai dishes PLUS the best Pho in town. We've loved all the handmade appetizers, the curry, pad see ew, etc. Our favorites though are the Tom Kha soup and the pineapple fried rice. SOOO flavorful and yummy. And do NOT skip dessert - they are all homemade and so unique - the thai cream cake was amazing as was the taro cheesecake. I can't wait to try the cream puffs but they keep selling out! They have tasty boba drinks and smoothies too. Their new location is cute with an outdoor patio. Service is always personable, friendly, and efficient. One of our regular go-tos again! read more

I finally made it to Blooming Thai after yet another friend told me I absolutely needed to get there. Now I'm kicking myself for not going sooner! What a fantastic experience! The location is downtown, right in the square. Cute place, not big by any means but didn't have to wait for a table at 7:30pm. Crowded but no line. Server was great and even remembered my wife from when he worked at a different Thai place in town. Hmmmm. Maybe remembering her instead of me is something I should think about :). Really couldn't decide between two dishes so ordered one as an appetizer: the Spicy Catfish. Thank goodness my wife wouldn't let me order 'hot' and negotiated medium because it was spicy enough at that level. And amazing. It came with rice and was just the perfect mix of flavors. Too big for an appetizer but I'm known for ordering separate entrees when I can't decide so don't judge. I'm glad I did! For main course, I had the rotisserie chicken fried rice - hot - and it was very good. You could tell the chicken wasn't the normal chicken flavor, the rotisserie added to the dish. To be fair, the spicy catfish heat probably muted the flavor of my main since my taste buds were altered from the appetizer so I'm looking forward to this dish a second time without the mix. Wife had crab fried rice (mild) and liked it as well. Portions were very large for all so for those judging my three entree meal, know we didn't finish everything! I'm not into the Thai iced teas but they had a huge selection and we noticed several people coming in just for those as to-go orders so they must be good. Maybe next time as the banana flavor milktea looked interesting to me. All in all I'll be back - a great experience and a new addition to my 'go to list' in Bloomington! read more

I feel this is the best and most authentic Thai food in Bloomington. We have been coming here and to the more recent location near the college for several years now. The male server is always so welcoming and makes you feel right at home. He seems to always be there and even remembers our favorite dishes. He is very kind and will answer any questions you have about the menu and will even make some welcomed suggestions. The food and service is wonderful! I was interested in coming here for a while because the exterior of the restaurant is so cute and I see it whenever I'm walking around downtown. The inside is equally as cute and has a very cozy atmosphere. My friends and I all got the 5 dollar cocktails, which were good. We also ordered some summer rolls and pot stickers for appetizers. The pot stickers were well seasoned and the texture was really great as well. The summer rolls were also really good and refreshing and the sauces that came with them were good as well. I ordered the yen ta fo noodle soup and it was great. There were nice big chunks of tripe which absorbed so much of the flavor. The octopus, shrimps, and tofu also had great texture and flavor. The broth was spicy, umami, and salty. The portion size was also really big and I was 100 percent full after eating. The staff was also really nice as well and gave good service. After the COVID-caused death of Darn Good Soup, I was hesitant to venture into its replacement. It took me more than a year to walk through the doors but I did and was surprised that it was good, perhaps not "Darn Good" as a replacement but definitely good in its own right. Blooming Thai has many more different options than the standard Thai restaurant. I had the pattaya pineapple rice with tofu which was delicious and something I had never tried before. The presentation was impressive and flavors, good. Their spiciness levels are more on the sensitive scale. I got medium spicy but it seemed more mild. If you want spicy, then I recommend Happy Thai (which is also a great Thai restaurant- my favorite in town). The service was also kind and the place was cute. I'd be happy to try Blooming Thai again for another unique dish. read more

Really good. My understanding is that the owner is related to the people who own Siam House, which is my fave B-town Thai restaurant. I have had lunch here many times since I work downtown. The satay, the Thai dumplings, and the egg rolls are wonderful. I am eager to try more dishes. I am intrigued by the pad Thai wrapped in egg, planning to order it soon. Have only done take-out since it's been a pandemic since they opened, and their indoor dining space is tiny. They do get super busy during the lunch hour, so be aware it may take some time, but well worth it. read more

Only been here one time, but enough to give solid 5 stars. Main reason is authenticity. This joint has the most extensive Thai menu in state of Indiana hands down. I live in Indy and have been to every Thai restaurant in Indianapolis metro area and always rave about certain establishments that are "adventurous" and include dishes that are not seen at every single Thai restaurant known to man. This menu goes above and beyond. Finally do not have to go to Chicago or LA to eat Kao mun Gai alongside Bamee Moo Dang or Esan Sausage alongside Khao soi. Sure, I can get one of these dishes at various restaurants around Indy, but not together. I really do not think that Bloomington understands how solid the Thai game is down there with this place, Happy Thai, Siam House, Bangkok (but besides the point, I rant). First of all, they did complete renovation of the building inside. Used to be soup restaurant and they really put in a lot of work. Small, compact seating (unfortunately with Pandemic going on) but they do have some outdoor tables. Location right on the square next to Tap on one side and Orbit Room basement bar on other. Service was fairly slow our time eating there, but it just opened and was busy! Do not care, just fortunate to have eaten here and hope spoiled college students do not rate badly bc of this reason. Food was great. Esan Sausage was earthy, filling, and came served with peanuts fresh thai chilis and fresh ginger (just like its served in Thailand). I got Kao Mun Gai which was very tasty. Only complaint here is the meat is a mix of white and dark meat chicken. Speaking of spoiled, I guess I may be a bit myself, and prefer white meat whole heartedly. With this being said, I muscled through some dark meat and still enjoyed. The ginger rice and ginger rice are to die for. Pad Ka Prao Gai Sub Kai dow (Spicy thai basil with ground chicken and fired over easy egg to top) was also good. A bit too saucy for my liking, but still tasted great. Look forward to going back another 4-5 times at least to pair the menu properly. read more

Their spicy catfish was AMAZING, truly delicious with great heat but also really amazing flavor, and by far the absolute BEST crab Rangoon I've ever had in my life. I will make a special stop here anytime I was Rangoon, it ruined all others for me, so delicious I can't even tell you! This place is completely fantastic! We started off with enough food to last for days (it really did!) and are excited to work our way through the menu. My husband had a chicken and pineapple dish served in half a pineapple (see below). We shared what I think was a special called Drunken Fried Rice--as our server explained, this is MUCH spicier than most fried rice on purpose, to help people with hangovers. Although we weren't hung over, we enjoyed it very much. I ate most of it since I'm more into spiciness. I also had Pad Thai with Egg (Pad Thai wrapped in an egg). That might not be the exact name, but that's what you'll see on the menu. It was delicious! The best Pad Thai I've ever had. The décor and vibe put us in a good mood right away. The staff and owner are so hospitable and friendly. You seat yourself, scan the QR code on your table to access the menu and a staff member will come take your drink order. They have homemade Italian sodas, smoothies, milk tea and coffee drinks. Basically they have a drink for everyone and you can get boba or other toppings added. We started with delicious crispy crab Rangoon...they don't skimp on the filling. My daughter had the crab fried rice and I had pineapple chicken literally served inside a half of a pineapple. To add to our amazing meal, we had a Mango and strawberry Italian soda. Everything was so good! They give you generous amounts of food...you could even split your entrees with the table. Coming from ATL, I've tried lots of Thai food in the area. Good pad thai and bad pad thai. The one here has great flavor. Only critique is the noodles they use are way over cooked and makes them super mushy and soft. It's not the traditional pad thai noodles I've seen at most places. Prices are pretty good for what you get. Don't get the pork plate. Pork was so dry and got stuck in your teeth. Boba and milk tea (we got Thai tea) was honestly horrific. Watery and tasted like watery milk and TON of sugar. Gave you a straw that doesn't even fit the boba. Boba had no flavor. Lots of good boba spots in ATL so coming here, it'll be hard to find good boba that doesn't taste like watery milk. read more

My wife and I have this establishment a change on Saturday. The biggest issue I had with this place is it sits in the square in Bloomington. This does make parking problematic at times. We got right in as it was not busy at 1:30 when we got there. Waitress seated us and we placed our order. I had no idea what I ordered... it just sounded good. Good portions and excellent flavors. This place serves Thai and Vietnamese foods. I got the Pad Garlic Entree and I got it Thai hot! This was the hottest you could order. It was warm...made my nose run but was not even close to being unbearable. The heat came as you swallowed and it went down. It was like a trailing heat, but is was wonderful. We also had calamari with sweet Thai sauce for an appetizer. This too was wonderful. So in all I found another off the road place that I will patron again. It seemed to be a never ending bowl...had left-overs for the next day! If spaced out seating is a concern for you, I wouldn't stay to eat. Tables were pretty close together. Take out is an option, though, and I think they work with different delivery services. The staff were friendly and the interior decoration was beautiful. The vibes were immaculate and it'd be a cute place for a date. Got some boba to go and it was super yum of course, imported from Taiwan. It also came in a sort of reusable cup so that was cool. Spice wise, I like spicy food (but not like sign a waiver hot) so three was perfect. If you are less into spice you could go 1 or 2, if you're a daredevil you could go 4 or 5.
