Quick update... The owner reached out to me directly via phone and through the yelp messaging space. He shared that he was also very disappointed with my experience and pledged to look into it. After reviewing the security footage, he found that the employee didn't live up to his service standard and let me know that he will be terminated. I upgraded to two stars because of his follow up and concern for his business. I can't give it more than two as I didn't have any service actually done. I will also say that another potential customer had also messaged me that was in the office when the event happened, he shared that he along with three other potential customers all walked out and he had also spoke to the owner. I cannot confirm or deny that the employee in question was actually terminated, but as much as I feel sorry for the guy, a front desk service position is NOT for him. I always try to support local small businesses and I've heard a lot of good things. So I went in today for a smog. Immediately I was told they don't honor their coupons. Ok so whatever. My vehicle is out in the bay getting its smog. Then the guy comes in and said it did not pass. It's a newer vehicle. And i was like what??? The guy in the office a smaller Hispanic man with lip tattoos on his neck was telling me all of these things wrong with my vehicle and I need to take it to the mechanic. So of course I'm stressing now. Then The technician comes in with MY paperwork and said oh sorry you did pass. He had the wrong paperwork. And rang me up under the wrong persons paperwork. The absolute worst passive aggressive front desk employee I've ever encountered, which is disheartening given that I've smogged multiple vehicles here in the past. I hate to downrate any local business, and if you look at my reviews, you'll see that is not something I do. I've used this shop previously and happily so. Unfortunately, the smug arrogance I encountered today while trying to bring my mother in law's vehicle in for a smog means I will not be coming back. At this point, that feeling is likely mutual, as things unnecessarily escalated and I ended up letting him know (in no uncertain terms) what he could do with himself. I was not looking for a confrontation, but this kid clearly was. For context, I stopped in around 1:30 p.m. There was a sign on the door that read, "Went to Lunch, BE BACK SOON," which I assumed was posted by the mechanic. The door was unlocked, and having been here many times before, I knew there was a lobby. At no point did anyone state the lobby was closed or that customers should not enter. Instead of simply explaining how long "soon" might be, or stating they were closed for lunch, I was repeatedly asked, again and again, in a smug and condescending tone, whether I had read the sign. A normal person would assume that meant someone would be returning shortly. Asking how soon should not have been treated like an offense. That initial interaction set the tone, and it only went downhill from there. I will continue to encourage people to support small, local businesses, but I cannot in good faith recommend this shop. read more

I called a day prior to wanting to come in to ask if I needed an appointment for Friday morning (4/15/26) and told them I had a coupon. They said no appointment necessary and that they would take the coupon. Walked in after opening and the guy at the front said it was a 30-45 min wait and that he will take payment at the end. Came back 45 mins later and was told it would be another 30 mins. Finally when my car was ready and he asked for payment I showed him the coupon. He said he couldn't accept it because he would've had to input that price in the beginning. I said how would I know to show you this in the beginning when you said wait until pick up to make a payment? He said once he puts in the price there's no changes and if I told him I had a coupon in the beginning he could've honored it. I said it would have been much better customer service if you asked if I had a coupon in the beginning since you specifically told me wait until pick up for payment. Obviously that's their way of getting you in there with a coupon and then saying they can't change it and charging you more at the end. A gentleman walked in behind me and said he was there yesterday and they did the same thing to him! The front desk guy called his manager and the manager did not let him change it for me. He told me that when I called the day prior it actually reroutes you to the Antioch location so the Brentwood location would have no way of knowing that I had a coupon for today. He told me to remember it for next time (like there will EVER be a next time!). read more

I'n the past I would have given them a 3 star rating because the people that work there were kind and would ring me up for the coupon price. this time the hat rack with a pony tail wouldn't accept the discount price because I didn't present the coupon. before he wrote me up and quickly had me sign. Usually they would ring me up at the discount price or at least asked if I had a coupon before signing. Not this time and it will be my last time coming here. Update: not only did the hat rack have no customer service he gave me the certificate to an F 350 super duty truck when I brought in a Mercedes C300 series. I went back to have it corrected and he fixed only a portion of the certificate. My car now has a 6.7L engine but it now weighs 10k lbs. read more

He failed my car for not having a EO # even though my car doesn't require one. CA smog referee suggested I go to another location, which I did with no problem. I had a flyer for a smog check that had said the final cost would be $40. Obviously, additional costs for oversized vehicles. I had brought my sedan into get smogged. The young guy behind the counter was VERY hard to understand. He did have a very strong accent but the difficult reason for not understanding him was because he was basically whispering. I had to repeatedly ask him to say something again, while I'm leaning my ear towards him. I don't have issues with my hearing but this was BAD. It was like he was afraid to speak or something and I understand it can be intimidating when learning a new language but I still needed to hear what he was trying to tell me. Then he went to give me the quote (before work was done, luckily) and said it would be $68-ish. I showed him the flyer and he said, "yes, because your car is compact." I let him know that yes, my car is compact but this flyer does not say compact cars are charged more. Only oversized. Then the guy had said, "yes. Oversized. Your car is oversized." Uhhh... what? You had just said my car was compact. I was very confused because he had kept calling my car both compact AND oversized at the same time. In no world is my car considered oversized. It is smaller than a typical sedan and is even listed as "sedan" on my registration. I had argued this repeatedly but he had kept calling my car "compact oversized." At this point I was over it and felt like they were just trying to scam me out of more money when they clearly were wrong. He had also taken my driver's license as well. Strange because I've never had that request before but ok... however, after that weird argument about my compact car being "oversized," I no longer have trust in this business and question the DL request. At one point, the man doing the smog check had come in and did not step in to clarify any information nor even see what the issue was. Hard pass on going here. It's a waste of time and will probably scam you out of money. Go someplace else. read more

I had a decent experience here. The staff wasn't overly friendly but they get the job done and honestly who has time for pleasantries when it's 95 degrees and you're dealing with an endless line of people coming in for smog tests. I can imagine it's no fun not to pass and that can probably lead to some less-than-polite interactions with customers. Mine passed and they made sure to get the info over to the DMV right away so I could finish my registration. They still honor the online coupon so make sure to get it and save it on your phone before you go in-show it up front. RIP OFF!!! I went here to get a smog for my sons truck which I purchased from a dealer 1 1/2 years ago. They charged me for a smog and said the cats were tampered with and the catch can that was on the pvc line was not legal. Why did you charge me $ and do the smog when the first thing they did was open the hood and see a bright red catch can!! Why would you move forward and do the smog if it was illegal!! This is baloney! I went to another smog shop down the street and everything was passed. The mechanic at the second shop told me catch cans are legal in California and the cats were the original ones from the factory. He even showed me! I went in for a smog check with a $49 quoted price. Once there I was informed the price was $68. I showed them the quoted price and they told me that it was an extra $20 because my car is an SUV. My car is a 2001 Honda CRV. In terms of engine/ECU, anything mechanical, it's a Honda Civic, same engine etc. it's smaller than a Honda Accord. Saying it was 40% more expensive to smog when it's mechanically the same car as a Civic is ridiculous. Problem is it's one of the few Fridays I had time to do this and I only had an hour before my next appointment so they got my extra $20. Tired of shady businesses always changing the price or adding on some fees that raise their advertised prices significantly. read more

Recently took my vehicle here for a smog test. The male employee who was both conducting the smog tests and checking people in at the front desk, was rude and not inviting. I happened to go at a good time because there was only 1 vehicle ahead of mine. Upon completing my smog test, he said that my vehicle had failed. He then charged me almost $70 for the failed test. My vehicle is not old, has never failed smog, and has never had any issues with the check engine light or any engine issues. I left and drove right around the corner to A1 Smog (in Brentwood), and passed with flying colors. A1 said there was absolutely nothing wrong with my vehicle. I never go to Horizon Smog and regret every penny of it. I should have never given him a chance. After going to Horizon Smog, I read other reviews on yelp and MULTIPLE other customers have said that Horizon Smog failed their vehicle. I never leave Yelp reviews, but this review was necessary to share my experience. Please look elsewhere for a Smog Test Station!! Horizon Smog has collected thousands of dollars on failed tests. I found this out after contacting the better business bureau. Hopefully this helps future customers looking for a reputable smog station. read more

Wasted 2 hours at this location. Don't know what happen to the previous technician but this technician was not experienced working with vehicles 1999 and older requiring the bar 97 test. Technician asked if I had the model number to my catalytic converter handy which is something no one would have handy in their wallet. 2nd mentioned the CEL light was on which it was not. Went to another location immediately right after this experience and my vehicle passed with no issues. read more

Don't smog here. it's a rip off. He told me I needed a catalytic converter after the car passed the emissions test but he wouldn't pass it based on a visual inspection. Called state bureau of automobile repair and set up an appointment. Months after bureaucratic bull poo poo and 700 dollars later to Oakley muffler . I take it back and he tells me it won't pass because it's got the wrong number of O 2 sensors. so I take it to the guy around the corner and explain my complete ordeal and have him look it over and he pass it no problem. He also explained to me that "horizon smog hates retest as there is no money in it". He says many of Horzions customers switch to him for smogs inspections because Horizon smog is only out for money. I always bring my cars here when they are due for a smog. You can get a coupon online and use it each time you come in. Typically fast unless there are multiple cars ahead of you. They can only do one at a time. They do close for lunch, be mindful of that. If the wait is long it's right in downtown, so lots of places to eat, drink, or shop. read more

We took our classic car here to get a smog because they said they do the old style smog testing. They said we failed the inspection part due to some random wires they pointed to in the engine, although emissions passed with flying colors on our new engine. Went to get a second opinion and they said it all checked out and couldn't understand his issue with it. We drove back over and the older guy working there got bent. Said he was right, go get it fixed. And then he said make sure to tell them when we are coming back to recheck, cause they need to take the customers that will make them money in front of us!? Took my car in for a retest after failing. The technician Jose Alvarez starting explaining why I failed. Then he says "stop being a dick". I was just asking questions. Haven't said much. This excalates when I address him for insulting me and he doesnt respond. I ask the guy in front if I my car passes somewhere else, do I get my money back? The technician then shouts "I'll give you DOUBLE YOUR MONEY BACK! (I even got proof on video) Car passes smog - same day, no problems. Everything got worse when I came back for my refund. I come by, tell the technician "You owe me $100." Jose said "I dont owe you $100." Then he says something else, and "I'll give you $100, I'll shove it right up your ass!"
