Pan de bono
Brittany M.

Hornitos has been in my town for years and I never quite knew what kind of bakery it was, and never really had a need for a bakery. When I found out it was a Colombian bakery I knew I needed to go. I've had pan de bono a few times from somewhere else, and if I could eat it everyday I think I would. So the pan de bono is what brought me to Hornitos, their menu is what made me order for lunch! Although they are known as a bakery, they have many meal options to choose from. I tried to order online for pick up but the website was pretty frustrating. It allowed me to add everything to my cart but when it came time to place the order and pay it kept saying it couldn't process any online orders at the time. I understand this can happen for various reasons, but I wished it happened before allowing me to add to cart because it felt like a big waste of time. When we ordered they did not have any pan de bono left, but they baked some fresh and it was ready in 30 mins. As expected it had a delicious buttery/cheesy taste and the texture was springy (it kind of reminds me of the texture of a mochi pancake but more dense). The limonada de coco didn't have any lime or lemon flavoring to it but was a very nice and refreshing coconut drink, I imagine it's not intended to have a lemonade taste and I translated poorly with that? Anyway, it was a happy surprise because I think the actual taste was probably more enjoyable. The carne asada was flavorful as were the frijoles. I would have liked the plantains more if I ate them right away at the bakery but that's not their fault. Overall a good experience and I will definitely be back!

Very small coffee/breakfast/pastry shop. When I walked in there was a line from the register to the door. They aren't really enforcing social distancing. They sell ice cream in a cooler also. Those look good but I only went for a latte.

Very inviting! I finally walked into this bakery the other day, pleasantly surprised at first the smells of flavorful food that hit me instantly. Then I just stood there watching the 5 customers who we're dining in enjoy their food which looked amazing (sorry, I was being weird lol). I really just intended to go in and see what pastries were on display along with grab a menu. There was a man behind the counter who was so friendly in explaining a bit of their culture and what pastry was what, I ended up buying a small sample of a few things with all intentions to visit again, soon! Beef empanada was so good, so well seasoned, didn't even need sauce. Traditional Columbian pastry (I cannot recall the name) filled with cheese was sooooo bomb I'm sad I only got one, I need at least 4. Also tried another pastry that looked like a croissant filled with chicken, was okay, needed sauce for me to juice it up. Sauces provided were A1. I definitely need to go and taste their coffee as well as dinner! Thank you for your business xoxo

We ordered two margaritas during happy hour (Monday-Thursday, 11 AM-5 PM) and they were solid, especially at 50% off. The bartender was clearly juggling a lot but still managed to keep the drinks coming and the service pleasant. Unfortunately, the food didn't match the start. After waiting about 30 minutes for our bandeja paisa and already feeling pretty hungry, we ordered beef and chicken empanadas to hold us over. They were flavorful and came out fairly quickly. When our entrées finally arrived, both steaks were cold and overcooked despite requesting medium. The chicharrón lacked seasoning, the rice was cold, and the beans were underwhelming. Overall, the service at the bar was fine, but the long wait and disappointing entrées took away from the experience. At $28 per dish, I expected better quality and temperature. While the discounted cocktails were a plus, the food simply did not justify the price and we probably won't be coming back even though we live nearby.

My favorite sides are red beans and rice, also consistently great. MiLina is a very friendly place. We are always warmly welcomed. Servers are attentive and not overbearing. We do not speak Spanish and--on occasion--communication with a server has been slow, but always warm. The staff wants to please. The front room has music some nights and can be noisy, but the back rooms are quiet and service there is impeccable. On our last visit, our server overheard us talking about this meal being for our wedding anniversary. After our main course was cleared, we were presented with a dessert on the house. The plate read, in chocolate sauce, "Happy Anniversary" and was a lovely way to end the meal. MilIna has replaced our NYC go-to steakhouse. Great food and service, close to home.

They loved the red. We were setup in the first room which was perfect, not to be hidden in a corner - the locals might be a bit loud at the bar so don't be offended fyi. The food was great, as you know that I will call it out if it wasn't- served hot and a good portion. Service was also great from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave, great vibes and most of all the birthday celebration woke up everyone as they pump up the beat and sing happy birthday in English and Spanish with a shot of aqua ardiente! Plenty of parking and they also have an outdoor patio- keep up the great job and thank you for your great hospitality!

Don't you love it when you pay reasonable prices for meals that can last you two days? Because I…read moresure do! This is my second time at the Noches De Colombia in Woodbridge. We came as walk-ins on a Saturday night and were able to get a table for two right away. They offer your traditional Colombian cuisine along with a full bar and bakery. The digital menus provide descriptions in English and have photos of every item, so don't worry if you can't speak Spanish. The atmosphere is incredibly lively, so it's perfect for celebrations. They have a DJ that pumps out some great Latin tunes! You can tell everyone (including the servers) are having a great time. Definitely not the place for an intimate conversation, so come earlier if you want to avoid a lot of noise. We ordered... *Pechuga A La Colombiana $18.95 - My entrée was grilled chicken breast topped with creamy mushroom sauce and maduros (sweet plantains). It came with the option of two sides, so I chose tostones (fried plantains) and arroz blanco (white rice). First of all, the portion size was HUGE... enough to be split into two meals!!! The chicken was seasoned with cumin, scallions, onion, and more. The tenderness of the chicken and the richness of the sauce paired so well together. The tostones were deep fried to perfection with a crispy and salty exterior. The white rice was fluffy and cooked with oil, salt, and garlic, which complemented the entire meal. *Bistec A Caballo $17.95 - A hearty dish! This was grilled steak topped with fried eggs, served in hogao (tomato and onion sauce). The steak was juicy, tender, and well marinated in a blend of spices. The hogao sauce was tangy, savory, and rich. We also got a side of frijoles (beans), which were really good. *Frozen Mango Margarita ~$15 - The drink was sweet and refreshing as expected, but the tequila was weak. It could've used another shot.... Or two. Noches has won me over with their great prices and generous portion sizes! It's now my go-to spot when I'm craving a satisfying Colombian meal.

Parking can be tricky, I parked halfway down the side street in front of the city park. The place was clean and everybody was friendly. I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. It kind of reminded me of a Cantina. Definitely a Latin vibe. The menu was on an iPad, and it was in Spanish, but just by knowing a few words and by the pictures, I knew what I wanted to order. I could've also used the Google translator on my phone, if I wanted to. I ordered the bandeja mixta. Grilled steak, grilled chicken, sausage, blood sausage, rice, beans and sofrito covered potatoes. The food came quickly, and it was delicious. Both the steak and the chicken were tender and had so much flavor. I loved the taste of the Sofrito covered potatoes. The potatoes were just the right texture, and the Sofrito was creamy and delicious. A little bit of the rice, I mixed in with the beans, And it made for a wonderful rice and beans dish. It was definitely a lot of food. I made it through the chicken, steak, the potatoes, and a little bit of rice and beans, and I was stuffed. I took the rest home for later, and it all reheated very well. The sausage was delicious, especially the blood sausage. Yes, it's an acquired taste but I absolutely love blood sausage. The flavor is deep and rich. For all that I got, especially since it was two meals, the price was very reasonable. I would stop back by the next time. I'm on the island. Thank you!
