Worst experience ever! What happened to Hornville we used to love? I would rate the food, but we NEVER GOT IT (after waiting 1 hour and ten minutes after ordering). Four tables that arrived after us got their orders. We came for the smoked chicken Monday special: they were out, so we ordered sandwiches. Womens' bathroom has 4 stalls: two were out of order, one was full of sh#¥, only one worked: filthy. Would give zero stars if possible. We'll not be going back any time soon. read more

What happened to this place? So many menu items were unavailable that it was hard to order! Pork chop "special" was not special and overpriced at $18.99 for chop, instant mashed potatoes, green beans, and beer bread. No substitutions. Plus, my chop came out barely warm and fatty with gristle throughout. Our beer bread and daughter's side salad didn't make it to the table, but we were charged. I had heard prior to my visit to Horneville that the new management was awful (some would even say that one of the owners is a bad guy). But I still gave it a shit anyways, and well, it tastes just like shit. It was really good back in the day when I was a kid I remember the family gatherings and this place used to have such a welcoming environment. We had lunch here last week. Upon walking in, one of the waitresses was clearly put out about our group coming to dine there. Luckily, we ended up with another server who was kind and attentive. Food was ok but some items came out cold. The rudeness from the first employee we encountered soured the overall experience and makes it unlikely we would return. read more

They have good food and service usually, occasionally you'll get a slow service or your food might not be right, but they will immediately make it right for you! that's the only thing that stopped me from giving five stars. Ah, the Hornville Tavern. I think its one of the best kept secrets in Vanderburgh county. The place is a out in the middle of cornfields, just 2 miles west of Azteca Milling off of Baseline Road. But once you find it, you're in for a real treat. The prices are very reasonable, for both the food and the drinks. They run daily lunch specials that can't be beat. This used to be one of our favorite place to eat, sadly that has changed. We had reservations for 6:30 on a Friday night. We were before 6:30 we and informed that they were out of Ribeyes, pork chops and chicken breasts. Uh...how could someone let that happen? The waitress told my wife they would let her have the New York strip for the same price, what an offer especially since they were the same price anyway! My wife ordered the strip state medium well, I wanted the chicken fried chicken but that was unavailable as well, so I ordered a cheeseburger, another ordered a cheeseburger as well, and someone else ordered the chicken fried steak. My wife's steak was served rare, my burger was burnt, and the other burger was only partially eaten as he didn't like the taste. The Chicken Fried Steak was the only good meal at the table. Hadn't been here in a year or two. Like everyone else they are short staffed. Drinks are fine. Ordered Rib Eye Steak dinner med rare - came out well done. Re-ordered and it was med rare but tough. Wife had ribeye sandwich, was really good - had been marinated and was tender. Something irksome, they charge extra for every item you add to your sandwich, Mayo lettuce, tomato - anything you add is between 45 cents and 70 cents extra. It has been at least 8 years since we had eaten here. We use to live on the North side of Evansville, and would eat dinner there about once a month. It was always good back then, so I was looking forward to our visit tonight. Three family members and I arrived early on a Thursday night and were promptly seated. We ordered the Deep Fried Green Beans as an appetizer - they were very good. Three of us ordered the evening special which was the Smoked Pork Chop, and the fourth ordered the ground beef steak. They were served with a side salad and potato. Their pork Chops are very large, perhaps 2-3" thick. Mine was very dry and difficult to cut. My companions said their's were fine. Salads were iceberg lettuce with a thin piece of tomato. Our baked potatoes were overcooked and mushy. I was the only one who had dessert-a piece of Lemon Meringue pie. It was okay, but rather bland. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed in our meal. The waitress was efficient, but each time we get addressed as "you guys" - I cringe. So disrespectful! read more

This tavern could not be more small town! It is can only be described as "in the middle of nowhere". It's really an understatement, b/c this joint appears to be an old farm equipment building. It is a big block in the middle of a cornfield and across the street from a cornfield. You all may be wondering why my "city ass" was out in the country...well, it was Erich's 15 year reunion and this place is hosting them all apparently. Cool...let's check it out. Inside this morbid building was a hole in the wall bar area/restaurant and in the back, was a large entertaining area with a separate bar, dance floor and stage. I was pleasantly surprised! It was clean and down home. NOT modern...no no no. But who needs modern when you have ...wait for it....smoked pork chops! Um....for $25 per person, Erich and I had an all you can eat buffet of pork chops, baked potatoes, homemade green beans and beer bread....and all you can drink beer. Can't get better than that for an affordable night out. The pork chops were some of the best I'd ever had. :) I looooove me some piggy and they did them up great. Very little seasoning but who needs it when you have a thick cut juicy chunk of of Babe?? It was DEEELISH!! With a different special every night of the week, you know your in store for something good. Prime time at this wonderful little joint is Wednesday evenings. At least twice a year, my family and I make the drive to the outskirts of Evansville to enjoy their evening special, a half smoked chicken (Yes, half of a chicken. Holy meat.) This smoked to perfection chicken is served with green beans, a baked potato and beer bread. The smoked chicken is mouthwatering and falls right off the bone, the green beans are flavored with smoked bacon, the baked potatoes are drenched in melted butter and sour cream, and the beer bread is dense and fried in butter. The beauty in this special is that not only is it delicious, but it is also a mere $7.50. Um hi, hello? This deal is da bomb. Not only is Hornville Tavern's food a hit, but the atmosphere and employees bring the eating out experience to another level. Surrounded by cornfields and positioned on a small pond add to its simple, downhome, country cooking. Also, the employees are remarkably friendly and are always willing to suggest their favorite items on the menu and desired beer on draft. We were only in town for the night and wanted something of a local flavor and ended up at this place. It's a bit off the beaten path and you'll end up passing a lot of farmland between the highway and the restaurant, but you'll know you've found the place when you see a building that looks nothing like a restaurant surrounded by a bunch of local vehicles. Walking inside the restaurant, you still don't get much of a feel that you're about to sit down for a meal except for the tables and chairs spread around. The special of the night was Smoked Chicken and we ordered it on our server's recommendation. We also added some Corn Fritters as an appetizer. The appetizer came out first and was quite tasty and then came our meal. The Smoked Chicken was literally half a chicken and came with green beans and another side. My wife had the warm German Potato Salad, which she enjoyed, and I had fries. But the focus of the meal was the Smoked Chicken. Unfortunately, mine was quite dry. In fact, it reminded me a lot of the big turkey legs you might get at the state fair or a renaissance festival. About 2/3 of the way through, I just couldn't eat any more because of the dryness. My wife's, on the other hand, was apparently pretty juicy. Still, she didn't care too much for the overall flavor and both of us felt like all the food had way too much salt added to it. All in all, the food was pretty average... and then came the dessert. Given that we were both a bit full (the food wasn't terrible; just okay), we decided to split a piece of Homemade Peanut Butter Pie. After finishing dessert, my wife and I agreed that we should have ordered a smaller dinner and had much more dessert. MUCH MORE DESSERT! This place is so cool! Somewhat of a step back in time to the classic Germantown neighborhood Pub. Food was delicious, service was great, the other patrons were friendly. I will definitely be returning each time I am in the area. I had the Monday special which is 1/2 smoked chicken, baked beans , a slice of rye bread , and your choice of American or German potato salad. I had the German version and it was fantastic. OMG! What an incredible place to eat, and it's literally in the middle of a corn field! A special every night (Thursday is pork chop night...), another of those great local Indiana places where if you leave hungry it's your own fault. I'll be honest, we only came here because the Log Inn is closed on Mondays. BUT this is a pretty fun and friendly place, and I enjoyed the drive through the cornfields to get there. The fishbowl of Gumball Head was a welcome treat. Smoked pork chops: mine was good, my wife's was dry. Ribeyes appeared a bit thin and gristly to my eye, but they were enjoyed by those who ordered them. Best thing is the homemade beer bread...delicious. I miss this place so much! I lived on the West Side in Evansville from 1997 until 2002 and had dinner there as often as I could. Just last night I was reminiscing with a friend in Indianapolis and telling her it was worth a trip to E-ville (and Euphoria!) just for the fabulous food, drinks, and atmostphere at the Hornville Tavern.
