We arrived at 5:00 PM with a reservation and didn't receive our main courses until 6:56 PM. Unfortunately, the long wait was not worth it. When the food finally arrived, it was obvious it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while; the lemons were warm, the broccoli was dry, and the tartar sauce had developed a film on top. The service was also disappointing. My water hadn't been refilled for over 30 minutes, and I had to ask for my fries because they were forgotten. Several members of our party were given unsweetened tea instead of sweet tea. One person in our group didn't receive their salad until their main course arrived, while everyone else who ordered a salad got theirs more than 15 minutes earlier. I understand restaurants can get busy, but between the nearly two-hour wait for entrees, the expensive price of the food, the poor condition of the food, and the multiple service issues, this was a frustrating dining experience. read more

We were disappointed in the food this time. The salad had one half of a cherry tomato and the rest was just lettuce. Ths filet steak had a good taste but was dry and chewy with no juice. We recently visited Haub House Steakhouse for a birthday celebration with a large family group. Was really looking forward to a great prime rib dinner to celebrate my mother in law's birthday, but we were underwhelmed by both the service and the food. It was a real shame because the location has the old world charm of a classic steakhouse, and I've heard stories of the good old days. Brussels sprouts were from a bag.... First of all my family has been coming to Haub's for at least 35 years. It was always a special spot for us to enjoy good food and service. I have not been back to Haub's since 2015. Things have changed over that time. The service was not as efficient as in the past. I ordered a beer and my wife wine that took 10 minutes to arrive. When my beer arrived it was without a glass that I asked for but never arrived. The onion rings and livers wrapped in bacon was as I remembered. Excellent! One big change is now you get a salad and side with dinner. In the past all sides were ala carte. Nice touch for the price point. Other issue is that I ordered the Haub cut prime rib. They brought me the 16 oz ribeye which was more expensive. I told our waitress but did not really get a solution. Everyone enjoyed their dinners but felt not the previous quality as in the past. To start off. I like the old town scenery and style. But came in the front and stood there for 10 minutes not one person noticed or made an attempt to acknowledge me. For the kind of prices they have in this steakhouse they should have staff and the front door receiving patrons willing to spend $30 on a steak. Seemed to be busy in all dining areas so I was seated in the bar area. It took another 5-10 minutes to be waited on. Once I ordered my steak in took a very long time to get me prime rib steak (which was to be cooked medium rare) and a potato. Seemed staff was very disorganized, along with the female owner/manager. The bar area phone kept ringing and ringing no one would answer it. The bartender was busy pouring drinks for her customers & the wait staff. Place trying to take the takeout orders. We had a table of 5 on a not crowded Thursday night. When we didn't have a reservation they made it seem like they were packed but would slide us in. They may have been short staffed as everyone was running around like they had never been so packed (they were not busy). We had the bacon wrapped liver app, stuffed shrimp, filet and prime rib. The highlight of the meal was the baked potato if that tells you anything. Filet was cooked good and kids liked the chicken tenders and corn. They sadly cooked the prime rib like a steak. Thank goodness one of my clients suggested dinner at Haub House. It was a welcome step-up from the Taco Bell and DQ near my hotel by the airport and, with its great food, is definitely worth these four stars. Walk into Haubs House after the 20 minute drive from Evansville and you know you're in for a treat. Well, you're welcome as long as you're properly dressed, which seems to mean -- according to the welcome sign -- that you're not wearing a tank top. Anyway, the period atmosphere (late 70s) is dominated by the trains that regularly pass, shaking the entire structure. It's more charming than jarring. I ordered the "petite" 10 oz prime rib on the suggestion of previous reviewers. There's nothing "petite" about it. Not only is ginormous, but it is enormously flavorful. The double stuffed potato was delicious, but too much. I had also ordered a salad, which was altogether simply too much food. The service was great. Fabulous, even! Everyone was exceedingly happy to see us. They freely offered advice about the menu and information about the restaurant. We were so disappointed in our visit to Haub House. We live over an hour away, so we traveled to get there. It was NYE , and required a reservation so they should have had an idea of how many people they would be serving. They did have larger groups (like 6-10 people) but not every table was seated (I would say half). The service was very slow and it took awhile to get to order. We buy our beef by the half, so I know what a good steak is and don't mind paying for it. I got a ribeye and it was so thin (maybe 3/8") as well as overcooked. My husband's prime rib was also over cooked.When they brought our food out nobody got a baked potato which had been ordered. When asked the response was "didn't anybody tell you we were out? We've been out for a while" . Yes, I know restaurants run out of things but once again, it's NYE and people made reservations, so you should have a pretty good headcount.The so called twice baked potatoes were cold mounds of mashed potatoes with a little bit of what might have been cheese on them. Just an overall disappointment. We hadn't been there for several years because of distance but was so looking forward to it because of past experience there. read more

The best dining experience I've had yet. The courses are spaced out so well you can eat all of your food and want dessert. The steaks were amazing and cooked to perfection, I enjoyed making mine Oscar. Of course the prices are high, but the quality is worth it and with spacing everything out so well you pay for an evening out and not just an hour or so meal where you leave stuffed because they rushed it all to your table. We had a great waitress this past Saturday night, she was very attentive and knowledgeable. Haub House is an innocuously charming and innocent restaurant in the heartland of Indiana. The innocence stems from the post-ironic kitschy decor, reminiscent of my Grandmother's parlour, and the unbelievably outdated menu of steaks, chops and seafood. Being a child of the 80's (though my parents fiercely clung to their 70's habits of fine dining), I recognized many of the menu items from my childhood - Orange Roughy (now perilously over-fished and endangered), baked scrod (what marketing genius named this fish?), bacon wrapped liver (don't spill any on your polyester suit), sherry with your soup (*hic* I shwear, this soup is the best!), cauliflower salad (gotta watch that svelte figure for Studio 54), cottage cheese and fruit (usually comes complimentary... when you're in the hospital), rice pilaf (Joy of Cooking, circa 1971) and oysters Mornay (Troisgros, circa 1961). I did like my Caesar salad - modestly dressed and crisp, though completed by whole anchovies. Some at our table were turned off by the anchovies, but I enjoyed the (outdated) touch. A New York strip, served on a sizzle platter (apropos of the theme) and garnished by a strip of parsley (again, apropos), was cooked perfectly to my requested medium rare. However, the quality of the steak was a bit south of what I would expect in America's heartland. On the other hand, I'm used to my brussels sprouts roasted with shallots (a la Scott Bryan), or perhaps bedecked with puffed rice and oyster sauce (a la David Chang), so I was a bit shocked to receive mine simply boiled and buttered - it reminded me of why I disliked them as a child. While the culinary throw-back stopped just short of a beef wellington or flambe, Haub House innocently slings honest though clunky food. For some hearty comfort food or a trip down a culinary memory lane, Haub House delivers. read more

So much for having a nice meal in a small town. Nice decor and small town charm but that's where it stops. I had the petite cut prime rib, medium rare; with a baked potato. The meat was NOT fresh and had been steeped in au jus. Meaning it was cooked elsewhere. It had an unappealing, flavorless taste that I couldn't seem to cover up with horseradish. The baked potato was not only undercooked but rotten in the middle. The only good thing about the meal was the salad. Food was just OK and not amazing or unique; I had high expectations for this place due that I heard so much prior to visiting. But it lacked on almost every point. The service was very immature; and by that, I mean it is run by a staff that probably still in High School. Some girl wearing some goth makeup and an attitude bigger than herself. I shouldn't critique much, since they were also some nice young kids refreshing the water. It looks dark and dungy when you walk in and smells old, it's a old building, you sit and feels as a fancy place, paper placemats, plastic sugar bowl, and individual creams, I ordered chicken and veggies, which were frozen and microwaved. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere and it was most noticeable that this Korean girl was not from around these parts. We had a reservation for 6 on a Saturday night (10/12/19). We were seated promptly in a cozy dining room and our attentive server took our drink orders right away. Our party ordered the petite filet (x3), center pork chops, grilled chicken breast, and single lobster tail. All of us got salad and 2 of us also ordered the French onion soup. The filet and chicken were very good. The lobster tail seemed a little dry and was just "okay." The menu specifically described the center pork chops as, "garnished with fresh pineapple, asparagus and house sauce." The pork chops came with no garnish, no asparagus, no sauce, and just a baked potato on the side. When our daughter asked about the pineapple and asparagus and sauce, the server responded, "oh we don't do that anymore." Hmmmm. Then why wasn't that communicated at the time we ordered?? She then told my daughter she'd have someone cook up some asparagus for her (as if she was doing us a favor). A few minutes later she brought out two pieces of asparagus on a plate. Two pieces. That's it. Hmmm. So - the pork chops came with no sauce or garnish, and we only got the 2 sad pieces of asparagus after we asked. We ordered dessert - mud pie, key lime pie and Irish coffee. All were very good. We enjoyed our experience except for the somewhat dry lobster and pork chops not being as described in the menu. My daughter would have ordered something else if she had know the pork chops were going to be presented naked with no sauce or garnish. And I probably shouldn't have ordered lobster from a steakhouse in a small town in Indiana and expected it to taste like I was in Maine. All in all, we had a good experience. We saw signs for Haub Steak House, and my girlfriend (from southern Indiana) had heard great things about it over the years. We checked out Haub Steak House on Yelp, which showed overall good reviews. The service. I was curious to see how the service was because at least one Yelp review commented on poor or "immature" service. We thought the service was fantastic. The waitress and bus-boy were young but very attentive. The food was delivered promptly, our drinks were never empty, and used plates were taken very quickly. We had no problems with the service whatsoever. The food. I have eaten at most of the "high class" steakhouses in Indianapolis. That being said, I felt that the food at Haub Steak House was outstanding, especially for the money. The appetizer of stuffed mushrooms was awesome. The salad was average. The steak was very tender and cooked perfectly. We highly recommend the twice-baked potato as a complimentary side dish to the steak. Needless to say, we were too full for dessert. My girlfriend and I went here as a treat to each other after a few long weeks at work. The greeter was very nice and accommodating considering we didn't remember the time change and showed up over an hour before our reservations. While it wasn't too busy while we were there, reservations are recommended. The atmosphere was OK. The bar area was really neat but the dinning area which we sat in, the ceilings had water stains around the vents. The walls around the windows looked like no one had tended to them in awhile. The dining area we sat it was spaced apart enough that you didn't hear what everyone else was saying and could hold a conversation without four people knowing your business. The service was very good, although to get a refill on my diet which they only allow one refill or you get charged for another drink was slow at times. The food was brought out hot along with the appetizers being hot. The food. My date got a filet and it was very good in her opinion. I got the swordfish which was rather bland and dry. The breadstick appetizers were very good. Overall my bill for the 8 ounce Filet, swordfish, two sodas, breadsticks and tips was $65.00. Steak was decent, salad was wilted, water was conserved, but don't even consider dessert or a high chair; both were non-existent and unavailable. We had reservations and specifically requested a high chair, we didn't take them by surprise. Service was horrible (even the server agreed - she marked out the line to give herself a tip, felt she didn't deserve it either!). There was no explanation or excuses other than when we asked for more water, was told she "had other things to do". Okay...not the response I was expecting but when she did bring the pitcher, two of my adult children received a nice splash in their laps; sorry that more water was such an inconvenience. We asked for a high chair two times for our 2 year old granddaughter, was told there was not one available, we were there 1-3/4 hours so she sat in my lap the entire time while we tried to celebrate the New Year and the upcoming birth of our next grandchild. Overall it did become comical but also extremely disappointing because despite the waitress struggles, either she didn't ask for (or receive) help from any other employee. We kept our requests to a minimum but water and a high chair could have been a redeeming factor. It's been many years since my husband and I had been to the Haub House and we were excited at the thought of sharing this quaint little place with our growing family.
