    Andrea with Red

This is a magical experience. It's truly unlike anything else I've ever done. I loved it. The time with horses is so special. And Andrea, the facilitator, is gifted in her knowledge and awareness with people and the horses. She helps guide each person's experience with kindness and loving. And she's a ton of fun, too. I've attending the horse sessions twice now. The first time, I brought my mom, who was very hesitant and a bit afraid of horses because of some childhood experiences with them. But once she arrived, she found she could relax and enjoy, even pet and adore the horses in the arena. And this most current visit, I attended with my best friend who's a skilled horsewoman. I was so impressed with her grace and ease with the horses... and in awe how she too could learn from their gentle guidance and wisdom. I'd heard of "equine facilitated learning" but never knew the profound loving and wisdom that would come from the closeness of being with these gentle giants. It felt like a week-long vacation in just a few hours. I love this experience and look forward to my next visit.

This was one of the most magical, healing experiences we've had as a family. It is best to just say "yes" to this experience with as little expectation as possible. All three of our children 7, 11 and 15 loved everything about this, as did I. It was a joyful, moving and learning experience we will never forget. We will carry the lessons always. The horses are indeed the magic but Andrea is the wand:) From beginning to end MAGIC! so much gratitude and love...

Andrea provides an experience that soothes the soul and calms the spirit. If you have the opportunity to visit Smarty Pants Ranch, I would jump at the chance without hesitation. This space is a natural refuge and the interaction with the horses will bring unexpected clarity. I hope to return with my family and can't recommend highly enough.

Ask the Community - Horse, Heart & Connection

Are clients allowed to ride the horses during that 10 AM to 1 PM session? Or is it more of a equine therapy experience. Because I would be interested in riding the horse

Just an opportunity to be with horses, without riding, to explore mindfulness, energy communication and allow the horses to be your mirror.... and see what they want to show you.

You start off by meeting the donkeys Billy Bob Beer Belly and George by letting them come to you and choose you by who they feel they connect with best. We got a little background on donkeys and how they are naturally calm, stress relieving and affectionate animals that have a way of interacting with humans for healing . We got to brush and comb them and enjoyed some unconditional donkey hugs . We walked them on their harnesses around the property, took some videos and photos with them and ended with feeding them some peanut treats . This is a great experience if you're looking for something fun and unique to do . Great for all ages. Terri is a certified Equine Assisted Counselor/ Coach and has many years of experience with donkeys and horses and their ability to help humans with healing and stress relief . She is very knowledgeable and offers a fun , interactive experience. If you in the Prescott/ Dewey Humboldt Area give her a call and schedule a Dances with Donkeys experience

She truly cares about these animals and is an ambassador for their support and well being. I think she has us sold on adopting a donkey some day when we have property to house them properly. Billy Bob and George are both rescued wild desert donkeys. They have some basic training and we were able to walk them on training halters and even take them through a simple obstacle course. They definitely run on "donkey time" but they are curious and intelligent and will do just about anything for a peanut! They were both very gracious about letting us live up on them and we helped Terry groom them and got lots of great pictures. They are somewhere between a horse and a big dog and I really did leave feeling better emotionally and spiritually. I highly recommend this experience and hopefully we will be back!

I went over with him very carefully how to feed my older horse and what to feed him And I found that he wasn't able to follow my simple instructions or he may have just not been willing to follow my instructions. I really think it's probably the latter. He is very unhappy, and every little thing that irritates him becomes a new rule after he goes and whines about it to the ranch's lease holder. She depends on him because she is unwilling to do the work herself or hire someone with more on the ball. She spends half the week with her boyfriend in Phoenix and as long as the work is done whether it is done correctly or not that's really all that matters to her. Her name is Deborah. She is checked out. She rarely comes out of her house, except to teach her riding lessons. She does very little with her own horses. What really is egregious about this situation is that she leaves their blankets on in 60° weather on winter days. And these are not simple sheets- these are heavy rugs. Her poor horses. They sweat. They cannot regulate their temperatures very well at all and they are just miserable. And there are some horses that are boarding there as well whose owners' pay for them to be blanketed and un blanketed and this does not happen on most days. They'll stand in their blankets for days on end when the afternoons are gorgeous and warm. I couldn't stand to see the cruelty anymore, and I said something. If you see something, say something. I doubt it will ever change and that's a shame for her poor horses. I feel like they're more like four-legged possessions to her than actual sentient beings who have feelings. Now because I said something I have to leave. There's no way it's going to get better but I couldn't keep my mouth shut any longer. Because I care about all horses not just my own.

If you are new to horses and want to learn how to interact to train yourself to be a good leader…read morethen Deborah is a good starting point but her rates for training are way above market value compared to other amazing reputable people in the area. You do not get much more bang for your buck. Boarding wise I HIGHLY discourage utilizing the facility. She doesn't own the land so there are limits but the landowners leave it dilapidated and dangerous. She invests minimally in improvements to the property. Her ranch caretaker is not a horse person and does not know how to interact with them at times due to the lack of meaningful training. I paid full care and according to the contract this includes daily pasture cleaning, hay feeding, and grain feeding if you prepare the bags. He only cleaned every other day and would not feed the grain. He Doesn't know how to interact with young horses. He bad mouthed my very well behaved 2 year old gelding to the woman who was helping me move out. Unprofessional and inappropriate. He doesn't even provide the obligations outlined in the boarding contract. On top of it you have to pay for and deliver your own hay. With $500 board that is inappropriate as well. Nobody here is ill-willed or malicious but please avoid learning a hard lesson like I did. Fortunately I ended up at a wonderful private facility with a great property manager.

It's been about 3 years since my Girl Scout troop came to this ranch (see my previous review). Since then my kiddo and I have taken classes at the ranch and we both became volunteers at the ranch. We come to this ranch about as often as we can. The owners make it a point to make everyone feel like family! This IS our family now!!! Aside from the joys of the ranch, my kiddo has advanced riding skills so much that my kiddo has participated in the Black Rodeo, Competitive Horsemanship and Riding and trail rides. Like my kiddo, experienced students at the ranch can participate in parades, shows, and more as volunteers representing the ranch too! If you'd like the same opportunities, you just need to saddle up and start your horsemanship journey, or expand it, at the RR! And, For the person who wrote that they called and no one answered... keep in mind, this ranch runs off of its volunteers. There is a limited paid staff and a small army of volunteers who support RR. This ranch serves as a large animal rescue. This ranch is a place of escape for victims of a variety of situations and this ranch services folks with a variety of physical, emotional and mental needs---- on top of the herd of horses, goats, pigs and dogs that live there. THERE WILL BE MOMENTS WHERE ACTIVITIES ON THE RANCH TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER ANSWERING THE PHONE. Please, be gentle and understanding. Call back, leave a message and give grace. I've added as many pictures as I can. Come out and schedule a tour, sign up for a class or sign up to be a volunteer: you won't regret it! Return Factor: 10000000%
