We decided to go away for thanksgiving this year and chose to go to the Wild Rose for Thanksgiving dinner. Overall I found the entire experience to be lackluster compared to how it was in previous years. The first thing we saw when we arrived was the hostess and I was shocked by her outfit. Her dress was far too short and not appropriate at all for a holiday or the level of upscale dining we were paying for. We were seated immediately but then service dragged. We got bread long before our drinks. Our first course came quickly but the soups were lukewarm at best. I had the apple salad and found it to be extremely refreshing and not at all what I expected but in a good way! The star of the meal was dinner, however, they gave me the wrong side. The waiter did quickly remedy the situation but again for this level of dining I expected better. The prime rib was absolutely out of this world. The herb crust was amazing. However I was quite disappointed with the presentation it was dropped on top of the mashed potatoes and bled over everything. My mother had the thanksgiving dinner and she loved it. She especially liked the sausage stuffing which is not something she would normally eat and was impressed by it. The desserts were average and to be honest I again expected better. For three people we paid about $450. If I am spending that much money on dinner I want to be floored by the entire experience and I just wasn't. If I'm being completely honest the prime rib saved this review. So I hope the chefs get credit for it!! read more

Since we were going to be apart for our actual anniversary, we decided to try The Wild Rose and celebrate early. The Manor is beautiful and hosts the restaurant. It was dark so not sure of the views but it looks incredible. The staff was so pleasant and apparently everyone was enjoying their meal and experience were not leaving to open up tables for the 7:00 slots. They managed to get us in and we had the perfect spot with just another couple and off the main dining area. Quieter The menu offer variety and we both managed to find something. Interesting twist with the salmon with tomato sauce and cheese on top. Thought it was a Parmesan. But it was good Just off the main road, so you might miss it if you are not looking for it. Went to their Chocolate Fondue for a Birthday treat for my friend. Chocolate came out watery and would not stick to fruit and cake. Flame was too high and the LIQUID was burning. When we told the waiter it was inedible he went to the kitchen and basically brought us back the same thing with the flame lowered... They did not add chocolate to thicken it and it was still gritty and watery.... We asked for spoons to try to save it as we could see it a lost cause and they were not going to try and make it right I wanted to walk out and refuse to eat it but did not want to embarrass my friend.... we were nervous because of the wide range of reviews. The restaurant is in a 149 year old lodge, Stonehurst Manor. grounds are lovely including an outdoor chess board. Interior is reflective of a Victorian manor. We were seated promptly at a table with an outdoor garden and pool view. Our waitress was attentive without hovering. My sister ordered The Manor Salad which was a meal size. Our salads were brought out in a reasonable timeframe. Her salad had blueberries, Gorgonzola cheese, glazed pecans, and dried cranberries on Bibb lettuce - very tasty. I ordered Caprese Salad which we took a picture of. It was excellent as well. We both ordered filets which were large (8 oz), cooked as ordered, were wrapped in crispy bacon with an excellent brown sauce on top. Both were very tender and delicious. I had rice pilaf which was the best I have ever had while my sister had mashed potatoes. Green beans and a carrot completed the dish. We were too full for dessert. Well, this place is "not what it used to be" and we found it overpriced, even understanding that this area has to make its money when it can. It has been more than a few years, so obviously things change, but this used to be a reliably wonderful place for a higher-end dinner. The building -- Stonehurst Manor -- remains classy and beautiful and gracious; the library lounge has an atmosphere we have not found anywhere else. But, dinner? Good but not consistently great. An appetizer of potato, bacon, and lobster soup was delicious. My spouse's dinner of seafood pasta was reportedly very good (he ate it all without giving me a chance). I tried a dish of ravioli, chicken, and veal, mostly because I was wondering what inspired the chef to put veal on top of a dish that already had chicken, vs. picking one or the other. (Normally I won't eat veal, but again, in the spirit of "the chef must have something specific in mind here"....). The dish was visually unappetizing, looking like a regurgitated mess in the bowl, and individual elements were completely drowned by a parmesan sauce. It felt overspiced in general. And I still could not figure out the point of having chicken (diced bits) and veal (a couple of tasty but not noteworthy lumps) in the same dish. For dessert, a cheesecake was attractive but did not taste fresh. A cup of tea was served in a diner-style mug, and the tea selection was limited and heavily featured Lipton tea. Seriously? For $170 for dinner for two people, you're going to plunk down a mug that you'd find in any truckstop in America, and Lipton tea (I like Lipton tea just fine; just not for fine dining)? Especially when the restaurant reportedly features afternoon tea and has any number of pretty china teapots on display. Service was friendly and appropriate overall, but everyone was looking alittle ragged this Labor Day weekend. Finally, no doubt I am out of touch, but I would like to think that when it comes to a nice restaurant, the hostess might ask that diners remove their baseball caps (a pet peeve of mine, I totally admit it). Found this restaurant for Easter weekend in a magazine for local events and thought of trying something different. The stop is hidden off the main road in North Conway but easy to get to. Located on the premises of the Manor. Initially entering the parking lot I must have gone a wrong direction because the cars were pointed in an angle. There were no signs for do not enter so I had to due a u-turn to point my vehicle in the right direction which was annoying. Upon first entry, the building was certainly dated. The interior entrance was a little confusing as to where we go to check in. Once there, we were seated in the back room where no one else was there at the time, which was shortly after they opened at 5 pm. I was happy no one was near us so we could have a private conversation, particularly since the tables were so close together. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and also a waitress. Shortly after we received the menus and were a hit to order, the hostess brought in three people and placed then directly next to us. One of the guests had to move their table slightly because we were seated so close. This was disappointing because again, all the other tables were open and there were a lot of tables in the room. It was hard to have a private conversation since we were so close to each other. I decided to order the classic pepperoni pizza. I asked the waitress if it was good after she told us about the only single special meal. She said she thought the pizza was ok in a response that it would be ok to order. While we waited for the meal, we weren't in a rush to leave and do something else immediately but were surprised that the meals took almost an hour to be presented to us. Again, not sure why since there weren't a lot of people in the restaurant. Though, as we waited, the room did start to fill with more people being placed around us. There was a section of three tables up high for two people per table. I wondered why we didn't get a chance to be seated there as all the tables were filled around us and closely seated. As soon as the pizza was placed in front of me I could smell the contents that did not indicate a delicious pizza. The pizza was much too hot to eat so I had to let it cool which took about 10 minutes. Once I took a bite, it did not taste good. The pizza was still hot but enough to be able to bite into it. I'm not sure if it was the sauce or the cheese that made each taste difficult though. I suspect it was a combination of both. I was hungry since I hadn't eaten for several hours so I forced down two more slices which were very small. I could not eat the third slice because I felt as if I were to vomit. Instead, I cut the ends of the crust and ate them since it was the only part that didn't taste bad. After not eating the pizza, I sat and waited for the waitress to return. She only came to the table three times before handing the check - first to greet, second to take the order, and third to deliver the food. She then seemed to avoid us and give attention to the three tables next to us. I am not sure she didn't ask about my meal since it was obvious I did not eat it. When did made visit number four, which was a long time later, she asked if we wanted anything further. We said no and u asked to remove the meal from in front of me. If it stayed there much longer I would have gotten sick. The aroma was what made it to that point and wanted to get it away from me. But again, she never asked me about the meal. I should have said it was terrible though and not sure why I didn't other than to be polite and that we were anxious to get out of there. The pizza was $20. The person with me had soup and a salad which too was not very good I was told. It was an expensive meal for not being very good. After misting the check, used the bathroom. My guest was stuck in the ladies room because the door lock was broken. They had to get a key to unlock from the outside to get it open. I regretted coming here as I knew reviews were no of so good both here and on Google. I wanted to give it a shot and decide on my own. I would not recommend the restaurant but you too can make a decision like I had and give it a try. You may have a better experience or not. read more

The ambiance is just what we remember from other visits. We ate in the sunken terrace behind the library overlooking the pool area. We dined early after a long day of driving and are glad we did as the restaurant was very busy by the time we finished. We started out with seasonal cocktails: strawberry mojitos and hibiscus martinis. Both were refreshing for a summer evening. We started with Caesar salad & the butternut squash bisque. The soup was a hit and many around us chose it too. We opted for seafood tonight. The Lobster ravioli was tender and full flavored, accompanied by generous amounts of tender lobster claw and fresh tomato. The house special Wild Rose with homemade tomato rose fettuccine had tons of seafood: scallops, lobster claws, shrimp and plenty of Jonah crab. None of the seafood was overcooked, and the sauce was just rich enough to complement the food. Needless to say, we had no room for dessert. We went in on a Thursday night with a party of six for the buy a meal get a meal free deal. This place is an old classic style inn and is run that way too. The staff were all dressed up and extremely friendly. This is a great place for a date night. We started at the bar area and had a martini while we waited for our reservation. It was true amazing to watch the bar tender whip through his orders in the little corner bar. All of the drinks were great! They also have awesome olives for their martinis if you like green olives. There were no complaints at dinner either. We were greeted by our waiter, Paris and we couldn't have more pleased with his company, service, and hospitality. I had the prime rib and it was cooked exactly how I ordered it and the outer edge was packed with flavor from the seasonings. I would have to say this prime rib ranks among the best I've ever had. I was also lucky enough to try the Wild Rose seafood pasta. It is definitely a go to dish here as all the seafood was fresh and cooked perfectly in this flavorful dish. I think that this restaurant was very typical for what it was...nothing really special just expensive, okay food. We were in town for the auto road race and it was fathers day so I figured that this restaurant looked elegant enough for the occasion. I tried to call and make reservations for 7/7:30 but they couldn't get us in until 8 for some reason. We arrived and it was almost empty with a couple tables seated, so I am not sure why we wouldn't be able to go at the requested time. The server was artificially nice but we found her to be kind of off putting from looking underdressed compared to the rest of the staff to not providing us bread like the rest of the tables until our dinner was out (mind you we ordered appetizers). She didn't seem like she really want to serve us. I believe the bread is advertised as baked in house but it was like eating stale pieces of bread that's been around too long. We ordered 2 appetizers, the seafood pasta special and prime rib dinner. about 20 minutes or so after we got our appetizers the waitress came out and said they were out of the prime rib dinner. We were okay with that and got the lamb instead...imagine how confused we were when a prime rib showed up. I will say that the seafood pasta special was yummy, if I were to go back for anything it would be that but the prime rib was disappointing and not really up to temp. Location location location - that's what is best about the manor ( oh and Samantha the resident Rottweiler) Our room - Mountain View Wing was extremely dated, small and dark. The bed was very creaky! They have a great website and it is done well but I believe the room photos show only a representation of the rooms in the actual manor. They were at full occupancy so we were not able to book a room with a fireplace and whirlpool tub- which would've been so nice given that one of days was rainy and very cool. They do have a pool and jacuzzi on the property. The library sitting room was nice and cozy and the fireplace was lit one of our nights. We enjoyed a martini before dinner in the library . The Wild Rose Restaurant was fine - our dinner and breakfast meals were included in the package. The food was solid but nothing fancy or outstanding- but definitely edible. read more

I came here for dinner while in the area with a group of friends to enjoy a nice girls night out. We made a reservation but weren't able to get one until 8pm, not because it was full but because they wanted to reserve the times for people staying at the hotel. This was a bit disappointing because when we got there it seemed to be pretty empty. The food good, nothing too crazy but good overall. It was also pretty expensive in my opinion for what you got. Our waitress was extremely nice, she checked on us often, and made funny jokes with us. Overall it was ok, I wouldn't recommend waiting until 8pm to visit if you aren't staying in the hotel, but maybe pop in if you do have a room. read more

Found this place in an ad and saw prime rib on the menu and was sold, and for some reason I didn't check Yelp first. I don't normally post "bad" reviews but in this case the "not great" review raises the rating, so here we are. Honestly, this place has/had a lot of potential. We had reservations but our table wasn't ready yet, so we ordered a drink in the library lounge/bar. It was a nice area. We were seated within 15 minutes and about halfway done with our drinks. We had the complimentary bread and also ordered the grilled bruschetta and half liter of house cab sav. The bread wasn't good, and the bruschetta was only a bit better. The wine also wasn't good and tasted artificially flavored. I'm glad we didn't get the full liter and would recommend ordering a named glass/bottle. I did get the prime rib and asked for it grilled (after their recommendation). My girlfriend had the fettuccine. The fettuccine specified shrimp but we substituted chicken after inquiring with the server, since no options were given on the menu. Most entrees other than the pasta mentioned they came with the option of a starch and a vegetable, despite the options not being listed anywhere. As it turns out it wasn't much of an option because it was either mashed potatoes and wild rice for the starch and green beans for the veggies. The mashed potatoes and green beans I had were fine, but it was almost comical how this was presented. My prime rib was good but came out a little more cooked than preferred. The server did mention this possibility since I ordered it grilled. The fettuccine my girlfriend had wasn't good and was strangely sweet to me. It would have been nice to have the pasta price lowered since we subbed a cheaper protein, and the options should honestly be baked into the menu the same way they are for the salads with protein options. Other than the food, everyone we interacted with was very nice and accommodating. It seems like the restaurant was terminally understaffed and suffered for it. Things were slow all night, presumably for this reason. If the restaurant was better staffed and some of the details and menu were polished, I think this could be a very nice place. We have been eating our Thanksgiving Dinner there for the last 12 years, never again. The staff was completely disorganized. We had reservations for the 2pm seating and the staff decided to wait for everyone (the entire seating) to gather in a lobby (with the door opening and the crowd waiting outside), maybe 100 plus people. The hostess was calling names out loud like it was the price as right, "come on down." We didn't get seated until later than our reservation, there were no menus or complete setting on the table. The server asked us for our drink order, my wife requested a wine menu, which was provided. The server then disappeared and never returned. Bread was finally brought to the table and no plates. We got up a left and had a better dinner at Burger King. I have extensive hospitality experience and can tell you, these folks don't know what they are doing.. I just had the worst experience at this restaurant. we had a 7:45 reservation, we put in our order for our appetizer and it took over 45 minutes to arrive it was mediocre at best. our meals didn't arrive until after 9:00. I ordered the duck when it came everything was cold. the duck was terrible it was rubbery and a white meat. I have eaten duck many times and it is always a dark meat, I have never seen white duck! I never ate it. I tried to get the meal compensated but they refused. they were rude and unhelpful. I didn't want to pay for a meal I didn't touch and they called the police. i will never go there again and would not recommend it to anyone. read more

It is painful to write this review. We have dined at this restaurant for many years and the food and service has always been very good. Unfortunately, our recent experience was awful. We got some bread and when I asked for some more twice, none ever appeared. One of my guests ordered "two appetizers" as an entrée. Crab cakes and shrimp accompanied by a salad. The salad looked quite old and was inedible. The crab cakes were flavorless, and the shrimp were unidentifiable. He complained and showed it to our server who said "sorry you did not like it" and took it away. My second guest had steak, which was not bad, but the vegetables were tastless and served cold. The third guest ordered shrimp and pasta, which was not bad. We were surprised. I ordered a rack of lamb, which came as a real rack. The chops were not separable even with a sharp knife, and I had to finally pull them apart with my hands. The vegetable was overcooked and served cold and fingerling potatoes were dry and had obviously been roasted a long time before serving. Our dessert, yes we had dessert, was apple crisp which had never seen an apple and was a gooey puddle of sweet sauce. I am really upset because our valley has lost a fine restaurant. Had dinner here on the last night of a weekend getaway. First time guest with friends who were veteran patrons who hyped up the experience. Have to say overall, really disappointing. First, we waited almost 30 minutes for our table. I think they forgot about us. Then we were seated and were informed that the restaurant was out of the prime rib, which according to the wait person, was not unusual. We order our dinners and they take forever to come. Friends steak was well done and cold and my pasta with asparagus was basically congealed by the time it arrived. Maybe there were issues in the kitchen and they forgot our dinners. Celebrated our anniversary here. Frank Sinatra playing in background, refined, old charm vibes. Overlooking the budding garden was relaxing. Our waiter was perfectly attentive to our needs. He wasn't overbearing yet met our needs quickly. The food was divine. Lobster Rangoon's were an amazingly delicious appetizer. Lobster Ravioli and The Wild Rose entrees were sinfully good. I really wanted to give this restaurant 4 stars for its food and historic charm, but unfortunately, 3 stars were all I could muster due to unfortunate encounters with the hostess. Driving up to Stonehurst Manor, one is drawn in by charm, with its wide front door and large parlor room where guests are enjoying happy hour. We arrived with a 5:30 PM reservation on a weeknight and were invited to sit alongside the window overlooking the gardens. We relocated to a table overlooking the mountains, which was clearly the draw, but due to the sunset glare, most of the shades had to be drawn. Shortly after being seated with our 2 year old who wanted to explore the empty restaurant since we were the first table seated, the hostess approached us and asked if we would rather relocate to a table in a corner alcove away from other guests. I replied that we would rather not because we were enjoying the gorgeous view, to which she more curtly asked if our son would remain quiet. I took offense to this because he wasn't causing any fuss, nor would he in general. We dine out with him daily on vacation and are constantly told by others how well behaved he is. So I simply stated that he would be fine. This odd exchange was followed by an offering of a cucumber and feta hors doevre for which she insisted our son take one even though he dislikes cucumbers. I think our hostess began to lower her standards as the evening went on because a table with a 10 month old and another table with young children were seated. However, they did not have a high chair for the 10 month old, so someone had to hold the baby the entire time. The restaurant offered a kids menu, which I found odd, since they were not giving off a kid or family friendly vibe. The vibe of the restaurant was historic charm for older couples. From a drink perspective, we enjoyed our cocktails, Lola's favorite and a pimm's cup. Our server was friendly and accommodating. For dinner, we ordered Caesar salads, the homemade dressing being heavier on the egg, but very good. For entrees, we ordered a kids pizza, the wild rose pasta dish, and a prime rib. Everything was cooked to perfection. The pizza was on a homemade crust and cooked in a brick oven. The wild rose dish consisted of a homemade fettuccini, pink in appearance, made with tomato and some rose water, which gave the pasta a unique and delicious flavor that complemented the abundance of tender and juicy lobster, shrimp, and scallops. I thought the rose after taste of the pasta was really unique and interesting. The prime rib was cooked perfectly. It was served with a creamy polenta. For dessert, we ordered a tiramisu. It was very tasty and well executed. The food alone would have earned this restaurant at least 4 stars. All of the food arrived quickly. The only improvements to service could have been an inquiry into how our meal was, which we were never asked and generally are asked about this at all restaurants, and better bussing of our table as we had empty cocktail glasses sit on our table for the duration of dinner. I did end the evening by informing the hostess that her comments to relocate our table just because we had a little one were offensive and had discolored our entire evening. Unfortunately, even though this restaurant boasts a kids menu, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to any families with children due to the lack of high chairs and the way we were treated by the hostess. read more

My wife and I spent a long weekend in North Conway and had dinner at the Wild Rose on Saturday night. It may have been the worst dining experience we have ever had. I ordered their special which was crab stuffed flounder with lobster bisque sauce. Sounded good. The meal came out in a broiler dish with the sauce cooked over the fish and crabmeat. I literally touched the fish and it disintegrated into a fish soup which was tasteless, bland, and watery. My wife's dinner was equally bad. Our waitress and the hostess were rude as well. We paid $125 for the experience. There are several excellent restaurants in North Conway. This is not one of them! Mind you, we are not picky people. We had an outstanding dinner the night before at Vito Marcello's and a great dinner at Deacon Street on Sunday. Stay away from the Wild Rose Restaurant. read more

Had booked a stay for 2 nights(15th Wedding Anniversary) at Stonehurst Manor. They contacted us to make dinner reservations for our first night(very nice), breakfast and dinner are included in room fee so we where looking forward to dinner. We had reservations for 7:30pm(which was later than we thought for 2 people). We where seated at 7:20pm. We ordered drinks, and apps. Bye 8:45pm we still had no entrees, and 3 other tables(that where seated AFTER us) were served first! Needless to say, when our waitress told us our food would be "out soon" we left(by this time it was almost 9pm!. Apps where ok at best, view was beautiful, it was not that busy. A truly wonderful experience. The view from our table was beautiful and the dining room was amazing. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. I ordered a lobster and crab bisque that tasted only of butter - my boyfriend liked it so maybe it was just me but I asked her if it was ok to switch it for the clam chowder and she happily obliged without an issue whatsoever and I really appreciated that because I feel so bad sending things back. It was 2 for 1 dinner and we both ordered the lamb chops. I was not very impressed with my meal but my boyfriend was over the moon about his - just really didn't care for the seasoning. We dined at the Stonehurst manor this past week. The house is lovely and when we made reservations I was anxiously awaiting the dining experience. Instead we were sat in a tent! Very disappointing. My vista while eating was a tray full of dirty dishes! Another disappointment. The food - I had the prime rib- was cold by the time it arrived at our table. In all it was not a lovely evening as it should have been. Even with corridor-19, diners should be told if they are going to be seated in a tent instead of the charming house. read more

The good: Reservations were easy, there was no wait. The restaurant is well decorated and the ambience is pleasant. The bad: the food was not good at all. We each only took a few bites and couldn't finish it. I ordered the chicken breast which tasted old and bland and my husband ordered steak which was gummy and inedible. I tried a bite of his and had to spit it back in the butter wrapper because I couldn't bare to swallow it. Our waitress forgot things like 3 times and then spilled water all over our table and just said, "oops", and walked away. We paid $75 plus tip for a dinner that tasted like something you would get at a hospital. read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. We arrived at the Wild Rose less than fifteen minutes late for an 8PM reservation for seven individuals. It is also important to note they requested a phone number at the one we booked the space. I want to emphasize this happened on Christmas Eve. I recognize we were late on a very busy holiday, but what happened next is what brings me to draft this review. We provided the last name for our reservation and at that time a member of our party observed an older woman cross our name off the list. She marked us as a no show IN FRONT of our faces. When we mentioned we had church service to attend in two hours she said "oh, you will never make church." Another gentleman said "you'll be okay," taunting a different member of our party when he spoke to him. We have been patrons at this establishment multiple times in the past and have to say the food has always been delicious. The bottom line is the customer service we received was absolutely terrible. My mother always said it's not what you say, it's how you say it. There is a SERIOUS issue with first impressions. Our Christmas Eve was completely ruined and I attribute The Wild Rose to that one hundred percent. read more

We were visiting the area and we were excited to try the Wild Rose since it is a historic place and pictures looked good. We made reservations at 6:30pm for 8pm and when were brought to an outside big tent, there were only 3 tables taken (the place was empty). The fish bowl punch for 2 was great, the maple sausage pizza was okay and the prime rib rangoons were horrible (overfried with no meat to be found instead it had a minced type of meat for a filling and a fake aioli sauce that tasted overwhelmingly mayo-based). The wait was about 20-25 minutes for the drink and almost an hour for the pizza and rangoons. Not going back :-( read more

We were here from out of town celebrating my 60th birthday. I had made reservations weeks ago and we were looking forward to it only to be disappointed. We had the lobster rangoons and scallops wrapped In bacon for appetizers. They were very good. I chose the Wild Rose special after reading all the reviews. It was ok but not as amazing as written in the reviews. The lobster pieces were good in it. My husband had the halibut special. It was so dry. I told him he should have sent it back. The best part of our evening was enjoying the ambiance of the decor in the main area. Our table was in back in the corner and it had no ambiance at all. Sorry to say, I wouldn't return here. read more

Excellent Grilled sword fish over (very sticky) risotto (which i would give 2 stars). Wild Rose Seafood pasta, good, a little too rich, pasta did stick together also. We would return, lovely location. They had outside seating under a tent for Co Vid, and did space the tables. We do visit when in North Conway. read more
