Nice, relaxed brewery without a lot of frills. There is a little bit of seating inside and several tables outside. Not a ton of choices for beer, but the stout, pumpkin beer (complete with a cinnamon and sugar rim!), And two IPAs we had were good. Would definitely stop here again! read more

I love this place. It's only a couple miles from my home, which is just such a plus. The beers on rotation are various... from a Pilsner to a chocolate peanut butter porter... don't forget to look for the honey beer come Fall (I hope it returns!) Food truck days are plenty as are the friendly faces and loving dogs that visit. Service is excellent. If you take a book and get there by 2ish, you'll find the best reading nook all to yourself for a couple hours. read more

Quick update on my review if horses brewing. Apparently I was right and so was everyone else they lost their lease in Watkins Glen to another brewery. You have to be pretty bad for board members to vote you out and not renew your lease. Case solved!! People have spoke ,,stay away from this place. read more

We sat 45 mins just waiting for a drink. Wouldn't know about the food, gave up n left. Seemed very chaotic understaffed.

We wanted a bite to eat and a drink while Waiting for a nearby boat tour. There was only one waitress and we waited almost 30 minutes to have our small order taken and another 30 minutes for our drinks. No food yet and we finally asked to cancel our order so we could go when lo and behold it showed up. I was unimpressed- rubbery chicken and fries that were hard and chewy. We had to get up and look for the waitress to pay our bill. Not sure if this is the normal staffing level but I would choose another spot. I'm not fussy but this place was less than appealing visually either. read more

Who knew you would find such great beer in Horseheads? The building looks very industrial inside and outside. The tasting is $3 (I think there is also a $2 option too but I didnt get that one) and you get to keep the glass. I usually cant stand pumpkin beer or any beer for the holidays BUT I was lucky enough to hit this place when they still had some pumpkin left. YUM!!! Such a peculiar but wonderful little place. Live guitarist when we were there, super relaxing atmosphere, bartender was very friendly. PRICES AND BEER ARE AMAZING. Flight of 8 different beers, 4-5oz pours, $6.50! Half pints were only $2.50, pints were $4. Chocolate PB porter was best porter I've had, best choc or PB beer I've had, and top 10 beers I've ever had. Delicious. I bought a growler to take some home. Cream ale and hazy IPA (8 different hops) were also quite good, and the jalapeño IPA was adventurous to say the least, ya gotta at least try it. Wonderful spot to post up for the evening. read more

I thought I wasn't a beer drinker. I was wrong--I am still not a beer drinker, but I can make exceptions. We visited Horseheads brewing primariliy to statisfy my fiance (who was rather sick of the sweet wineries I prefered). I had attempted to compromise with him in a visit to the 3 brothers wineries and brewery, but the beers there were so bad that he wound up being more disapointed. Tastings are ridiculously affordable, only $1 for everything on tap--and you get generous portions. At the end, you will easly have consumed more than a beer's worth, so be wary if you are already buzzed and planning on driving. They have a series of regular beers, which they rotate on tap, and seasonal beers which are only available certain months of the year. Almost all of the seasonal beers, and one of the regular beers, fall into the fruit beer catagory (though they are flavored with more than just fruit--inlcuding maple syrup and cocco powder). Unfortunately, we could only sample one seasonal beer, the Pumkin Ale, but it was so very good. Unfortunately, most of the beers are not available for purchase in bottles, but Horseheads is clearly a favorite spot of the locals--and geared twoards their needs. The primary system of purchase is a growler, and a growler refill. For those of you who, like me, had never heard of this before, a growler is a half-gallon bottle purchased for an inital fee (in this case, $8) and then filled with beer (prices at Horseheads ranged from 6-10 for a fillup). While we were there there was NEVER a time when someone wasn't getting a growler filled, and we were there on a Wednesday evening. There was often a line, and when we first arrived, the line was 4 people deep. Again, I am no beer expert, but my fiance raved on and on about each beer, and even I was able to enjoy and appreciate each one. I was also able to finish my FIRST ever WHOLE beer, by downing a bottle of pumpkin ale back at camp. I also really enjoyed the Pale Expedition Ale, which is their American Pale Ale, and really wish it had been available in bottles. It had none of the bitter flavor I associate with beer. Since we chanced to be there on a Wednesday, we were able to sample (and purchase) the Hot-Jala-Heim--which is a fruit beer infused with jalapeno and anaheim peppers. Even I enjoyed it, despite the definite "beer" taste, because it was so well balanced by the other flavors. It almost seemed creamy for a moment, then the bitter beer flavor kicked in, and only at the end did the peppers hit you. Again, I have sampled few beers, so my review is horribly unprofessional, but definitely check this place out. read more

All around great microbrewery! They have a solid lineup of interesting craft beers and some great seasonals. And unlike alot of breweries they are totally set up for tastings and on-site purchases. Additionaly they have loads of cool glassware and some basic homebrewing supplies for sale. They are open often and are easy to visit even if you are just passing through the area or staying at the nearby finger lakes. read more

So I've only ever tasted their beers from the bottles I find in stores until I decided to make a mini beer trip out of my stay in Elmira NY. Stopped in after an interview to look around. This place is a small warehouse/tasting shop where a little room is converted into a tasting area, bottle shop, and beeraphernalia. The guy at the counter, Mike, is a local who has recently gotten interested in craft beer and is a pleasure to talk to. I came in right when they opened on a weekday so I was the only one there for a little bit, but people started trickling in shortly thereafter. It actually got surprisingly busy in a fairly short period of time. They had some good classic rock tunes going and I was feeling adventurous so I bought a beer tasting that included a tasting glass. I was able to sample every beer they had on tap. The tasting prices are quite reasonable. The owner/brewmaster came out and I was able to chat with him for a while. Very personable guy and knowledgeable about his beer and craft beer in general. The rest of the area has glasses, mugs, growlers, thermos growlers, flip tops, 1L, 2L, etc sizes on shelves and a small beer fridge that houses their bottles. They currently have the Domination, which is their American barleywine aged in Makers Mark barrels in bottles only. I bought a case of it. Totally worth it. I also purchased a few of their pumpkin beer. Quite delicious. Overall, I think this small brewery has huge potential to grow and do even more with their brews. As the top rated micro brewery in NY for 2015, we made it a point to stop in and sample their brews. We got a flight, 8 beers for $5. Each beer was very different from the next and they had unique qualities. Their hot-jala tasted reminiscent of nacho cheese to me, and I just couldn't get behind the bitterness of their red ale- it had the mouth feel and the aroma of an IPA. Most pumpkin beers are too sweet; however, their pumpkin beer was delightful. The space was charming and they had several offerings in bottles to take home as well as growlers and mini growlers, too. What a great little brewery. Firstly, I do NOT normally enjoy pumpkin beers and theirs is fantastic - more pumpkin pie-esque than that normal squashy taste - very delicious. More importantly, the experience: The building itself is quaint and a little on the small side but I like it - they exist for one thing and one thing only: BEER. They have extremely reasonable prices for beer flights if you have a hard time deciding what you like and would rather try a little bit of everything. For $5 you get a very generously portioned flight of 8 beers. You can also purchase 22-ouncers and growlers. The staff is very approachable and knowledgeable about their product, which is always a good thing. I came in here with a group of three others and the place was not very crowded but I have heard that this joint gets fairly packed, so be warned - I can see seating running out very quickly if that is the case. As I stated before, this place is ONLY about beer - they do not serve food, so plan your beer-drinking accordingly. If you do need something small to snack on, however, they do have a vending machine with chips, pretzels, candy, etc. Stop by this place and try out one of the many new and awesome microbrews in the area! Amazing service , and most importantly amazing food. Me and my gf shared the bacon cheddar ale fries which were spectacular . I had the American burger with Chips and my gf had the jerk chicken sandwich with chips . Burger cooked perfectly , chips crispy and flavorful . The jerk sandwich my gf loved , not to spicy and had the perfect bun to go with it . We had an issue with how the chicken was cooked but they resolved it no issues or questions , she just saw that part of it was undercooked but they did make her a new plate and loved it . Topped it off with a pumpkin cheesecake which there is no words to how good it was , and an additional complimentary desert that wasn't on the menu. Light , not to sweet, whip cream was fluffy if that's the correct work for it . Man I just can't say enough on how amazing everything was . I ate so fast that after I was done I wanted to take a nap, and it's 230 pm with a 1h30 min back to where we are staying . Overall, the beer ranges from uneventful to good. Their regular beers go from forgettable (Towpath) to good (Brickyard Red, Newtown Brown, IPA). It's their seasonal, or what they call, specialty beers, that are actually pretty good. The Christmas Ale is wonderful, though it is more of a summer style. The Black Horse Ale and Stout are very good beers, but not always available. I like the hours that they are open, I like the tasting room with the $1 option (try them all) and $3 option (try them all and keep a nice tasting glass), and I like the glassware that they sell. I think that the opportunity to get locally made beer in the Horseheads area is awesome. However, what really dings them is the person behind the counter. It's been the same server every time that I go there and I always get the cold shoulder. She comes across as unfriendly, curt, and borderline rude to some of the patrons. It ruins the experience for me. When doing the tasting, the beers are often not explained or discussed. They are often poured in a haphazard order (every other brewery I have been to pours light to dark) . If I were the owner, I'd find a new face to the public for my business. I've grown so tired of this person, I'm going to drive the extra 30 or so miles to a different brewery for a more pleasant experience. In the end, the Horseheads Brewery is worth a trip, especially for their specialty beers. Just be prepared for not-so-great service with your beer. read more

Unfortunately for me, I hadn't started visiting the Horseheads Brewing Company until this past spring. Didn't know what all I had been missing! I've always been a fan of craft beers, and was beyond satisfied with their selection. All of their seasonal beers have been phenomenal. Their Pumpkin Ale is beyond tasty (and quite frankly, the best Pumpkin beer I've ever had). The staff is extremely friendly and personable which adds to the experience. Jeremy is an asset to the brewery... Always in a good mood and flashing a big smile. I've been there when it was packed many times, and somehow he manages to keep everybody straight with what beer they had last for the tastings. Overall, the beer is excellent (just wish the seasonal ones were available longer!) and the service is impeccable. Did I mention the tastings are only a dollar? Some buddies and I headed down to the Watkins Glen area from Ontario. Our first stop of the day was at Horseheads Brewing, which set the bar pretty high for the day. The staff behind the beer were down to earth beer loving peeps that really went the extra mile to make sure we were enjoying the beer they had up for sample. For $3, we each walked away with a little tasting glass and nine samples of some of the finest beer I have ever tasted.
