Both wonderful - the cuttlefish sauce was so unique and fresh. Primi piatti of mussels and linguine that was very fresh in a light garlic sauce. Entrees were amazing especially the lightly fried mixed seafood and the branzino, which was filleted upon request. Would definitely return!

It started off well; they gave us a nice table in the back room even without a reservation. The waitperson brought us menus and came back about 10 minutes later to take our orders. Then we sat... and sat... and sat while several other tables were seated *and* served before we got our food. In fact, the waitperson never came back to check on us or anything! We didn't get our meal until one of my travel companions inquired about how much longer it would be. The couple at the next table had just about finished their meal already! We started to feel that maybe they didn't like tourists since we were the only ones there and we were the only ones ignored. While the service left a whole lot to be desired, the food was reasonably good. I had the grilled branzino and it was only okay; there were lots of bones and it was very plain. A sprinkle of salt and some lemon improved it, but it still wasn't something I'd want again. My companions had the seafood salad and the scallops and they both enjoyed their dishes. The scallops looked especially delicious. If I was ever in this area again, I'd skip this restaurant; I don't like being overlooked!

What better way to spend it than wandering around Venice and enjoying dinner at Rossopomodoro? They're still in the "Italy training program" and these menus tend to confuse them, so after three weeks here I felt obligated to guide them toward the promised land. After much studying, debating, and staring at menus, it was finally time to order. I went with the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese, and the wife and I shared a salad. When that salad hit the table, it nearly stole the entire show. We drizzled on a little balsamic vinaigrette, added a shake of salt and pepper, and suddenly we were ready to dance right there in the alley. Fresh tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, crisp greens--every ingredient tasted like it had been picked that morning. It was outstanding. The pasta was very good, but today the salad was the undisputed champion of the meal. Of course, dining outside along Venice's busy walkways only adds to the experience. Watching people pass by while enjoying great food is one of those simple pleasures that makes Venice such a special place. Rossopomodoro delivered a fantastic meal and a great evening. The newcomers survived their first full day in Italy, and I'd say they're off to a pretty good start.

I'm far from a pasta expert but we have an idea of what's really good pasta from eating it nonstop in Italy. They do take great care to pack the take out order. The best from all the take out orders we had during our trip so points for that! Nothing was open near our hotel so we found Gran Viale. I went to grab takeout because Mink was back at the hotel packing. It's very easy to find with indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is covered to shelter you from the elements. Inside is very nice and has a classy upscale look. Customer service is friendly and they spoke good English. The kitchen also got my order out in a jiffy. I ordered us a Seafood Spaghetti and a Spaghetti Bolognese. Portions are very generous. The seafood was a decent amount but not considered "a lot" compared to other Seafood Spaghetti dishes we ordered during our trip. Flavors were ok, nothing spectacular and amazing. Price wise it is on the higher side but they do make up for it with the amount of spaghetti you get so you'll definitely be full. No utensils available. Decent food from a nice restaurant. Maybe we ordered wrong?
