Posted a review the other day, and I'm still staying here, but my star review is going downhill. I went to take a shower and there was hot water in the bathtub but none in the shower. So I had to wash my hair leaning over in the bathtub and try to take a shower Standing in the bath tub using the bathtub faucet. I wanted to have a little ice for my evening cocktail, but the ice machine is broken. I went down to have coffee and they said biscotti at 8 AM this morning and no one got there till about 8:20. The biscotti was Plastic wrapped and had to be about a year-old. I took one bite and threw it out. So what do you think of my experience so far?

This is such a beautiful place! Our dog-friendly room was very spacious and had a soaking tub overlooking the breathtaking views of the ocean. There is a lovely walking trail right outside that takes you on a scenic path to all the little shops and restaurants. There is a wonderful high-end restaurant in the vicinity called Vue Coastal Kitchen, as well as a mouth-watering BBQ stand that is only steps away. On the weekends, there is a fantastic craft market with handmade goods. We cannot wait to come back!

I would like to say there is a ton of potential but nothing is quite right. Paint on the floor, light switches without knobs, switches that went to nothing, screws & nails left out, phone doesn't work, holes in linens but the worst part was the roof leak. Water in our room. The hotel was "full" so we got a bucket. The desk clerk was embarrassed but the manager was too busy to even call to apologize. I find that extremely unprofessional. We had to spend the night with water literally dripping into a bucket. We got a discount but an apology would have been nice. Warning: Ask first before planning to go to the restaurant. It was closed all weekend for a special event. Such a disappointment

What you see on the website is most definitely NOT what you get. We drove 4 hours to get there, and when we got there, they said our room was ready. Everything was absolutely disgusting and there were hundreds of dead flies in the room, especially in the window ledges. The room was incredibly dirty and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. The bed was filthy and the frame was broken, creaking and cracking. The neighbors next-door blasting their TV and had stolen our patio furniture from our deck. Management had US go retrieve it back from them while they glared at us through the window. Really awkward and inappropriate. The room and the bed were so filthy that we didn't want to touch anything, and most definitely would not spend the night in there. As it was a Friday afternoon, there was nothing available anywhere near and we had to drive two hours back down the coast and rent a room in Petaluma. Completely ruined our trip we had planned. This place is horrible and disgusting! ZERO stars.

I have stayed at the hotel on two separate trips in 2018 and both times had a wonderful experience with the large clean rooms and most of all the amazing views. The staff is super friendly and helpful. And the bonus was the restaurant, Vue Kitchen, next door that has some of the most delicious food. Recommend this hotel and definitely don't miss having at least one meal at Vue Kitchen.

Ok, since the manager has been kind enough to respond to my review, let me just make sure I am entirely clear on his response... You see a middle-aged married couple walking down the sidewalk, coming from a crafts festival, with bags and cameras in their hands, walking towards your hotel lobby, and actually in your parking lot walking towards the lobby, in the middle of Thanksgiving weekend in the middle of the afternoon and in your opinion we are potential hooligans and vandals ready to sneak around your hotel causing damage?? And you are so concerned you have to leave your lobby and pop out from behind a car and confront us? And in your opinion "What do you want?" is somehow your version of politely introducing yourself as "Manager" and politely requesting to know if we are "guests or intended guests" (which certainly did not happen). And when we said we were hoping to look at a room, I'm not sure how much more clear we could have been that we were "intended guests". And even if we said we were just looking around, almost every hotel I've ever been to has been happy to show off their hotel to potential patrons. I've NEVER had someone instead tell me to "get off their property" or they were calling the sheriff.

Came upon this establishment by accident! This place is a dream come true! Beautiful rooms! Clean! Quiet! Walking distance to local eating which was great as well! The only down side was no easy beach access, but the rest made up for the only down point. Enjoyed our stay immensely and will be back!

Right before he asked me to be his wife !!!

Our cozy cottage was clean with a great view of the garden and ocean. The bed is very comfortable and the provided space heater helped kept us warm at night. Only con I have to say is the pillows were very flat so we had to sleep with both pillows on top of each other for more support. I love that it had a full kitchen so you can cook delicious meals with fresh ingredients such as the daily delivered eggs straight from the chickens and greens you pick from the garden. If you want a break from cooking or want a meal prepped for when you arrive, you can add in the option of a dinner or picnic basket to your reservation as well. For the activities such as chicken chat and goat gab we weren't able to attend; it was raining pretty heavily during our stay so we opted to stay indoors and enjoy the cozy cabin. For the moments where the rain would stop, it was nice to explore the land, making stops by the bunnies and chickens with our dogs. Definitely planing on coming back! Would love to experience Mar Visita during the spring or summer!

The day before we placed our breakfast order and it was delivered to our door in the morning. The ginger scone was my favorite but the biscuits were also huge and fluffy. Loved the matcha latte. The flowers and plants on the property were gorgeous. If you walk to the top of the property, there is a gazebo and sitting area. Perfect for a place to read. You can see the ocean and hear the Sea Lions. One night we signed up for an hour long session in the hot tub. It was very private, clean, and super relaxing. If you go after dark, the stars are incredible. The pathways were well lit for your walk back. Before visiting, I was a little unsure of what the electric vehicle charging would look like. There are two sections of parking, depending on which room you are staying in. They are well marked based on which room you stay in and don't require a long walk. I recommend to have directions saved and to look up ideas on where you want to go before you leave. There will be little to no signal once you leave the property. Had a fantastic dinner at Izakaya Gama (be sure to make reservations ahead of time) and went to The Record afterwards for a drink. There was a live band and so much positive energy. Damien and Diane were so friendly and welcoming. We can't wait to go back, try a different room, do a wine tasting with Diane and explore more of this gorgeous area. And if you're looking for a place to relax and revel in the calm, powerful beauty of that ocean and that coast, you should consider making this recovering gem your base of operations. A short drive to the restaurants, markets, art galleries and other artifacts of modern Northern California life, including multiple parks and trails. Grounds rich with local trees and well-tended flora. An eclectic selection of comfortable, television-free rooms and suites, some with kitchens or mini-refrigerators so you can lay in provisions and hide from the outside world. Free, fast Wi-Fi for when you want or need to reconnect to said outside world. A Whale Watch Lounge where you can read, play board games, heat some of your provisions or restaurant leftovers in the microwave (if there isn't one in your room) or just gape in slack-jawed wonder at the views. Several rooms have amazing views from windows or decks as well. A highlight of your stay will doubtless be any interactions you have with the marvelous Miren, She Who Runs Things at the Inn. Whether she's bringing your included hot breakfast to your room or recommending nearby attractions, Miren will definitely enhance your stay. There is a weathered, 134-step stairway that deposits you on a lovely stretch of beach. But if you walk, bike or motor to the nearby Anchor Bay Campground, you can buy a day pass that lets you skip those steps and walk comfortably to and from the beach with unlimited "in and out" privileges until sundown. It's not lavish, or pretentious, or overdone. It's comfortable, quiet, and in harmony with its surroundings. The Whale Watch Inn is a nearly perfect place to relax, recharge, and enjoy a perfect dose of some of the magic of the Northern California coast.

However, on arrival last night, the jacuzzi failed to operate, which I reported to site manager the following morning (this morning)...her response was that a, the previous occupant hadn't reported (that is my problem??), and b, jacuzzi repair would be expensive (see previous parenthetical). Also this morning I heated a cup of coffee in the microwave, lounged around (after reporting the jacuzzi sitch), then couldn't get microwave to work a second time (yes I have no shame, I'd rather reheat coffee twice than make a new cup), reported that and went off for a hike. (The area is gorgeous especially for a flatlander like me. And weather though 20-30 degrees cooler than inland was perfect with the correct clothes!) Eventually site manager sent ONE text promising a new micro when she was back onsite, but when I got back to room I could see nothing had changed...wondered if I was the problem, flipped switches, tried a different outlet for micro and...omg the electricity was 100% out, with sunset approaching and restaurants closing at 8 pm. So I threw everything into my car, drove 20 miles north and thankfully grabbed the last room at an inn (wildflower inn, point arena) where management seemed glad to see me and carried a microwave to my room so I could heat up my carryout dinner. I've asked Whale Watch for a full refund. Their negligence is inexcusable but I'll take an apology and a refund (and will never again believe their slick marketing).
