I love this place! I have been coming here for years and staying in their luxury oceanfront suite that has a whirlpool/hot tub in the room. For me there is nothing more relaxing than having the door to the patio open, listening to the waves roaring up on the shore, having the fireplace crackling and sitting in the hot tub with a glass of champagne!! I love to book a night away here and sit and relax...its just simply amazing! The rooms are always spotless, the staff is always friendly and they really are such a pleasure to stay with! I reccomend this spot to all of my friends and a lot of us just use this place as a quick weekend get away! For dinner I would suggest going for BBQ at Bones Roadside BBQ Bar/Restaurant. There is a small grocery type store next to this hotel that sells more duraflame logs (They give you one to get you started) but you should bring more with you or go get more next door. I'm giving this Inn a 5 star rating for its effort! I read the negative reviews from the past and decided to try it anyway since they are under new management and they do have the best views, afterall. I found the management team very attentive and tried very hard to make my stay enjoyable. There were some details that were missed when I first checked-in that they literally jumped out of their seats to rectify. The view was magnificent from "Canada"; I had a lovely private deck, indoor fireplace and whirlpool bath. The room was extra large with living room furniture, a king- sized bed, and a whole wall of windows making one feel like the ocean is all theirs. It's eye-popping. I had plenty of room to do floor exercises and yoga. I ate breakfast and lunch at "Trink's", a lively and trendy hangout within walking distance. The breakfast is great for all tastes, they offer loads of house baked goodies, and the coffee is perfect. Everything this little town has to offer is in walking distance of the Breakers, which is located right in the center of town on the ocean side. I work in Gualala for a few days every month and I plan to make the Breakers Inn my "home away from home". read more

Stayed over in the England room. Won't be back. For the steep 271.00 a night room here are my grievances: jacuzzi tub is next to window yes, but if you care to bathe and enjoy the ocean view without people gawking at you about 8 feet away forget it. A walking path to water is right next to your window! What's the need for tub & " views"? That alone got it 1 star for me. Next was the set up of the room, if you want to watch a movie or tv from bed the cabinet is not set in a very good area for that. The bathroom had NO area for setting up your overnight bag, except for a very small bookshelf. Very small. The bedding was less than adequate for the price of the room. During the late night opened the door to hear the ocean and had an enormous amount of smoke enter the room cannot tell if it was from others having a fire log going & the way the wind was or people maybe having Bon fires on the beach? Our friends did not experience the smoke they were on the 3 rd floor we were on the 1st floor. . We definitely won't ever stay at this facility again. It's a shame I had high hopes. read more

I can't even put into words how AMAZING this hotel is. I had to write this asap!! :) My boyfriend and i checked in on friday around 3:30 and we had originally booked the Napa room for 2 nights, but i wanted to surprise my bf last minute for his birthday by upgrading to the deluxe suite, and they completely accommodated everything for us (even though they were just about completely booked full!) They let us stay one night in the BEAUTIFUL California room with a jacuzzi right by the window, overlooking the ocean. Then the next night we were supposed to stay in the Napa room because everything else was booked, and just as we were about to get situated in the Napa room, they surprised us by asking if we wanted to stay in the San Francisco suite because someone else had canceled the very last minute, and it's too bad for those people, because the San Francisco room was breathtaking! Once you see the view of those rooms, you wont ever want to stay at a different hotel. Both of the rooms we stayed in were spotless. The bathrooms were clean, the jacuzzi tubs worked perfectly, and the views were out of this world. The front desk employees were phenomenal, and SO very helpful. All of our neighbors were talking about how attentive they were to their needs and how much they love the Breakers inn! Thank you to the wonderful women at the front desk, (Hailey, and a couple others that i WISH i got your names!! Thank you thank you!) you helped make this weekend an unforgettable one!!! If I could give a negative 20 stars I would (-20)!!! I have never been moved to give a negative review before but feel sadly this time I must. My husband and I have stayed here before and had good service, clean rooms, and really all around nice time. We just drove from the Concord area to what we thought would be a few days R&R here at Breakers Inn but instead our room was infested, and I do mean loaded, with bugs!!! I know right how disgusting is that!!! We got in late last night so we were to check in with the office this morning. Both of us were very tired so we called it a night, we awoke at 7ish, went in to use the powder room turned on the light, and all over the floor and the walls were roaches. I did my womanly screech for my hubby, he turned on his bedside light and they were all over the carpet threw out our room, also by the refrigerator, the wet bar, on the walls and ceilings too. Can you say WT Frack???!!!! We quickly got dressed, put our bags in the car, seriously hoping no bugs got into our belongings, and caught a few in a bag to take to office and show front desk. When we went to the front desk and showed the girl, she said " Oh yah, those are in most of our rooms we see them all the time" I said what are you renting out rooms for then, call an exterminator!!! She smiled and said "they are no big deal" with a rude tone to her voice. I said they are roaches and that is not ok!!! I told her this is disgusting, they spread germs and are dirty. This girl got so much attitude and then said a sharp FINE! I asked if she was expecting us to pay for anything, she said no there will be no charges. Never once did she apologize or seem sympathetic to the situation. I am sorry to say we will NOT be back. read more

My husband and I planned a quick weekend getaway up to Gualala and stayed at the Breakers Inn. I found this place on Yelp and felt that it deserved a good rating from us as I hope others read the reviews on Yelp and book their stay at this Inn as well. The innkeepers/managers were very friendly and had great recommendations of places to eat, things to see and things to do while we stayed. The weather was awesome and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was pretty clean (the bathroom could have been cleaned a little better) and the views from our deck were amazing. We enjoyed watching the sunset while drinking wine and eating cheese during the evenings. This is a definite return place for us. read more

I recently went here for my birthday getaway. At first I was a little skeptical based on poor reviews. This Inn has 28 different rooms and each are themed differently. Their website offers pictures and details of each room. My husband and I stayed in the California room and loved it! I wanted a getaway that had 4 things... 1) oceanfront view 2) a 2 person spa in the room 3) a fireplace 4) located in an area that was not overcrowded with tourists. The Breakers Inn provided all of this! The staff was very friendly and tentative. The best part about where Breakers Inn is located is that from your deck you overlook the Gualala River, and see the ocean together. You get all the perks of being right next to the ocean. The only negative thing I can say is the continental breakfast wasn't anything great. Will definitely come back and recommend to anyone who wants to have a great relaxing getaway right on the ocean! read more

Great stay! We stayed in the Sweden room, all rooms are themed and very cute. The price is right and the room comfy. Ocean view and absolute quiet, fire place and spa in the room for under 200$. The breakfast was rather boring and we chose to get food elsewhere, but we would definitely come back! Our room was on the ground floor and has a balcony just like all the others. There is a short walking path right by the hotel with water views. read more

I recently spent two nights at Breakers Inn and had a wonderful experience. This is my second time staying at this B&B. The hotel is now under new management and there was chaos while checking in as the room we reserved was already booked even though I made reservations a few days in advance. Fortunately they had other rooms for us to select from and showed us three different options and told us we could take our pick. We ended up picking the same room we stayed in our last visit (Virginia room). The room was spacious and nicely decorated. It was clean but I do agree that there is alot of updates that need to be done (replacing the railings, some windows, paint on the window sills, cleaning up the seagull poop, etc. But regardless of that it's a beautiful place and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. We understood that they were very new to the B&B and they were trying to work out all the kinks with systems and scheduled. The Sandbar restaurant next door is currently closed but sounds like they planned on re-opening after they did some renovations, etc. We were worried where we would eat both nights since the Sandbar, Gualala hotel and Bones BBQ were all closed. The lady in the office suggested a restaurant near the shops which we thoroughly enjoyed (best chicken sandwich ever!) and we also tried the pizza place across the street from the hotel. It was excellent as well. Overall, I highly recommend this B&B. The view is incredible, the price is very reasonable for an ocean front property and the new staff is doing a great job. read more

Bring earplugs, and all will be good! This is a lovely inn, with friendly, accommodating staff, making for a memorable experience. (Thank you, Kim and Jim!) We had the "Wales Room" with a large balcony overlooking the river and ocean. It was beautifully appointed, very clean (yes, there was the smell of bleach upon arrival, but opening up the windows for a bit took care of that! And good to know the rooms were truly disinfected!) The sunset views are amazing! Although the hotel is situated on Highway 1, you can't hear any highway noise from the rooms. The surf sounds are my bedtime lullabies... The earplugs are for the uninterrupted sleep when you don't have to listen to the extremely loud sounds from all of the surrounding rooms' water usage... the flushing of the toilets at 12:30 am, the filling of the bathtubs, and then running the Jacuzzis (which are VERY loud). It's amazing how there seems to be no insulation between rooms in this regard. I do look forward to staying at the Breakers Inn again, just with my ear plugs! read more

We stayed in the Oregon room on a Thursday night. The room was an amazing deal at $135 for a room with an awesome ocean view, fireplace, huge whirlpool tub, and a very comfortable bed. Shauna at the front desk was really friendly and offered us sherry, port or coffee in the lobby upon check in. The free wi-fi in the room was helpful in planning our day-trips while visiting Gualala. The Balcony was a good place to sit to watch the sunset, but not very private. In fact, if you go to the front of the balcony, you can see into your neighbor's room, so stick to the chairs. Unfortunately, we had to close our windows to the ocean breeze when the smoke from the neighbor's fire activated our smoke alarm (it cleared out after a few minutes). The inn does not serve food, but has an adjacent restaurant where we had an adequate dinner. Overall, an excellent place to stay. I would have stayed another night but they were full. We were very disappointed. The service was great and hearing the ocean waves was relaxing. However, there isn't a beach to get to from here. You have to make quite a drive and then quite a walk. If you're looking for a place where you can access a beach look elsewhere. read more

Wow, I just read the other reviews. I don't travel as much as others, and my expectations are not too high. I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The reasonable pricing lets you know it is not going to be a 5 star resort experience. I stayed in the Connecticut room for two nights. I found the staff at the front desk friendly and helpful. Welcoming. The room was clean. The view from the deck beautiful. I would have liked more comfortable deck furniture, but again I think the price for the room was fairly low. The best feature was the heat coming from under the floor, under the tile. I have allergies, so the lack of air vents and dusty air ducts was a plus. The continental breakfast could have used some fresh fruit. But there is a market next door, Just a note to the staff at the front desk, if someone says they have never been there, suggestions and points of interest would be nice and helpful. Even if just pointing guests towards "Trinks" down the street , which I found . It is a hub of local activity and food was very good. Thanks for the two days away. read more

I first stayed at Breakers Inn with my wife in Dec. of 2001. What a jewel of a find it was then. Sad to say, it has now lost its luster. I've noticed a decline in maintenance, service and even the toilet paper and towels. It seems that cutting corners at the the guest's expense is business as usual. We stayed in the Sweden room recently and were unimpressed. The bed cover looks like something purchased at a garage sale. I was expecting a quilt or nice comforter but all we got was some faded looking blanket with some ugly looking design on it. The walls and trim around the window need to be cleaned. It looks like someone spilled catsup or pizza sauce on it. The towels they now use are not absorbent at all and we ended up using our own beach towels to dry off. I'm a reasonable guy and overlook a lot of things but come on, toilet paper. The stuff they use now is transparent. You can't even blow your nose with it. On one of our two days there, housekeeping somehow overlooked our room even when I placed the "please makeup our room" sign on our door. I ended up cleaning it myself and dumping out the garbage. All I got from the reception person was an apology and a clean trash bag. I will say I do appreciate the amenities in the room. The mini fridge was quiet and clean and I like the fact they have microwaves and a coffee maker too. Too bad its no longer our "go to place" in Gualala because the views are exceptional. I've already checked on staying at the Seacliff Lodging down the street. read more

I think the new owners are in way over their head. I have stayed here in the past, twice since the new management and the decline is very noticeable. They also purchased the Sandbar restaurant next door, probably a mistake. During this trip the condition of the property was noticeably worse than the last. There was a very large water heater discarded on the ground between two of the units, a ladder left leaning against a wall of another building. Our room was hit and miss. The tile in front of the fireplace was broken and a very sharp edge left exposed. We were in the Belgium room and experienced this same problem in the Japan room last time. The front door doesn't close properly and has to be slammed to get it to latch. The water took several minutes to heat up. We poured water down the drain for almost five minutes waiting for hot water. Drought or not, not acceptable. The grout in the bathroom is dirty, cleaning and sealing it is such an easy job. The tile work in mediocre and the sealant used between the tile and the tub is the wrong stuff. It has separated and mold is growing in the crack. The door to the balcony is rotting at the bottom and the door frame is starting to separate, another easy and long term repair if done properly. The first night the radiant heat worked well, the last night it took some time to get it to fire up. Looked under the bar sink and found a hole in the wall leading into the cavity under the tub...geez. When I called the desk about the hot water issue I couldn't get an answer. I called the after hours number and got "yeah" when the person answered the phone. Lisa, the night desk clerk was great when we checked in but it was her Friday. Paint is fading except for the facade (gotta have curb appeal) and once you get up close you can see that the whit trim paint is all over the blue slate paint on the building. Everyone else didn't seem to care if we were there, they just wanted the cash flow. As I was packing one of the owners was frantically darting around the parking lot between the restuarant and the hotel. I wanted to talk to him about what I was seeing but he wasn't interested in even making eye contact. Maybe he was spinning about the shattered, very large window in the bar. Customers were allowed in but the window wasn't taped to minimize the chance of a collapse and injury. When I turned in my keys I got a deer in the headlight look from the young woman at the counter, no discussion about the stay, were we happy, etc. Very sloppy. I think we will wait until Timber Cove reopens from their extensive renovations and try it. Too bad, the view here is amazing and the town is very nice. I'd really like to come back, but not at these rates with these conditions. read more

My husband and I stayed in the Pennsylvania room and loved it! The view from our balcony was amazing! You could see the ocean across from the Gualala River from our window. Below us was a path that we used to take a quick picturesque stroll. There is a fireplace in the room that provided a very romantic scene when lit up at night. Great way to end a day at the beach or hiking the trails nearby. The room was clean and a jacuzzi is available in the bathroom that is very roomy with a walk-in shower. Didn't give 5 stars because of the bed that wasn't as comfortable as I wanted, but it was fine for one night or two at the most. When hungry we didn't have to go far. The best pizza place was right across the street, the Upper Crust. The staff at the inn were pleasant and since my husband had been there before they gave us the weekday rate, even though it was a weekend. Breakfast is simple; cereal, toast, fruit and coffee in the check in area that is nicely decorated. Would definitely visit again! read more
