The views from the house are absolutely incredible, and our family loved greeting the seals perched below each morning. Highlights from our stay included soaks in the hot tub, countless family walks on the bluff trails, exploring the Hot Spot Loop/San Andreas Fault Interpretive Loop, breakfast at Trinks in Gualala, lunch at the Lodge, grilling dinner on the deck, watching tons of World Cup games in the spacious and comfortable living room, and magical visits to Pebble Beach, Ohlson Beach, And Black Point Beach. This year, our boys also attended a week of Sea Ranch Kids Camp at the Links. They enjoyed their time there, especially the bounce house, art projects, and kayaking trip on the Gualala River. The home we rented (for over $400 per night, plus a $200 non-refundable cleaning deposit) was the "Urban Escape" on Sea Ranch. The property itself was in need of some repairs and upgrades: the hot water tank gave out the first night. The rental agency contact did get a plumber out to us, but I had got the pilot to stay lit while he was there, and he left with the wrong diagnosis (improper ventilation). After repeated re-lightings, the pilot would not stay on. We gave up on it. Also, the built-in microwave was kaput, and the original oven controls were missing. A replacement microwave was set on a counter. One day into the stay, a cabinet door to the kitchen sink area fell off. The fill cycle in the master bath toilet would not shut off without jiggling the handle. Coasting Home should have known of the issues with this home, and should not have listed it. Answer? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

We tried a…read moredifferent one , one year, and regretted it, and went right back to our tried and true Beach Rentals. These Folks bend over backwards for you. They go the extra mile to make sure you are taken care of. If we are running late, they make special arrangements for the house key, and make sure the hot tub is heating up. We have found over the years that it is actually cost effective and far more rewarding to rent a home in Sea Ranch than stay in a Hotel or Inn on the Coast. They only take checks or cash no credit cards. A ROMANTIC GETAWAY MUST! [A cautionary tale: if you are going to enjoy the hot tub late at night, make sure one of the doors is unlocked, or you have the key with you. We did not: and the only window open was on the second floor bathroom - a skinny one. So, my hunny put the teak bench on it's end, hoisted himself into that tiny crevice and bam down to the floor he goes. After he visited a black widow spider on his way through, but he was fine, I think the spider was to busy trying to figure out what was going on! The rest is history... just don't forget to take care of the door before your legs turn to rubber in the hot tub!]

Stayed in an ocean view King bed room with balcony. Pretty windy and cool during our stay, but that didn't detract from our experience. The Inn Keepers, Karen and Clifford, are nice folks who are very helpful and welcoming. The weekday rates are a good value. We decided to stay an extra day which was on a Saturday. The rate increased with no value added--so that was disappointing. The room was clean and inviting--nicely decorated in a nautical theme. The one amenity that created a problem for us is the jetted tubs in the rooms. The people above us used theirs and the rumble it created was so loud that we had to leave our room and go outside for an hour. And this was after 8pm in the evening-- inconvenient for us, as we were settling in for the night. ( A suggestion would be to acoustically dampen the sound by dropping the ceilings and putting insulation in the room ceilings on the 1st and 2nd floors.) We walked to the wharf and had the most delicious pizza and fresh organic salad at the restaurant there. Pick your room carefully, as there are stairs and no elevator--which they explain in the room descriptions. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

We spent two nights here celebrating my birthday and our anniversary, and it remains my absolute favorite place to stay on this side of the coast. Karen is such a wonderful host and truly makes you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. She prepared an incredible spread during our stay, including a delicious charcuterie board, flatbread, artichoke dip, and her famous "Slap Yo Mama" gumbo with fresh dipping bread. The name doesn't lie...it absolutely SLAPS! Hands down the best gumbo I've ever had. Room 120 was spacious and comfortable, with an amazingly comfortable bed and the perfect ocean view!! There is nothing better than lying in bed, watching the ocean, and listening to the waves. I also enjoyed a bubble bath with the jetted tub both days, which made for the perfect relaxing getaway. The balcony is nice with tall chairs and a table to enjoy a glass of wine (or three lol) in the evenings. :) If you're looking for a peaceful coastal retreat with exceptional hospitality, beautiful ocean views, and thoughtful touches throughout your stay, I can't recommend Wharf Masters Inn enough. Our cottage was incredibly cozy, and our days were filled with simple joys: harvesting vegetables from the garden, feeding the bunnies, collecting eggs from the chicken coop, helping shepherd the goats, and playing with the cats. There's also a beautiful beach less than a 5-minute drive away, making it the perfect balance of farm and coast. At Mar Vista, fresh eggs are delivered to your cottage every day. On our last day, we noticed every single egg in our egg basket was blue! We realized Cab or Deanna had probably hand-picked the blue eggs for us after learning that our toddler was in a phase where she loved everything blue. It was such a thoughtful gesture that meant so much to us. And who knew eggs came in so many beautiful colors? That was one of many incredible things we learned/experienced at Mar Vista. Our toddler has been asking to go back every single day since we left, and honestly, so have we. We can't wait to return.
