We used Hotel Conneaut for our wedding room block in April and I cannot say enough good things! The property is gorgeous; guests loved the wrap around patio, on-site bar and access to the lake. As someone who has been staying here my whole life, I can say the owners have done a great job at renovating the property while also preserving it's charm. My husband and I can't wait for another weekend at the lake and to stay at the hotel! read more

My husband and I booked a room here over the weekend. I had been here several years ago and know that the hotel is older. However the quality of the room was not worth the price we paid. We reserved a lake view room. The room cost us $165 and was not worth the price we paid. The bed was very uncomfortable and we were able to hear the noise from the bar 3 floors down. My husband and I were so upset that we ended up leaving at 2am and just driving 2 hrs back home in the middle of the night. I wish when booking they would have told us that there would still have been St Patty's day festivities going on. We would have chosen another weekend to visit. I called them multiple times to ensure the evening desk person checked us out properly since there was nothing for us to sign or take care of upon checking out and even left multiple messages and have yet to receive a call back. Don't let the photos fool you. Not worth the drive or money. After this, my husband and I will not be returning. read more

If I could give zero stars I would, and I have never even been to this hotel. Let me explain: A great friend of mine and her fiancé were scheduled to have their wedding here in October of this year. They booked this venue and SIGNED A CONTRACT in August of 2017 under the impression that approximately 60 rooms of the hotel would be blocked off for their event to accommodate the 120 people they would be inviting. These rooms were indispensable as EVERY SINGLE GUEST would be traveling an hour or more for this wedding. However, come to find out only 4 months prior to the event and after invitations with all the information had been mailed, did my friends find out (not from hotel staff) that the rooms had not been blocked off. The staff had only blocked off 16 rooms to accommodate their guests and guests were being told there weren't any rooms left to book, which is how my friends discovered this colossal mistake. Now you'd think that the hotel would go out their way to correct such a massive error on their part, but that was not the case. Their attempt to fix the situation was less than half hearted. The worst part is that the hotel staff never bothered to call them and tell them that the rooms they'd been promised were not actually blocked off. The only condolence my friends were given was that the staff member who made the mistake had been fired. They basically passed the blame to this woman who was no longer working for them, taking no accountability themselves. The bride and groom were offered money back ONLY if they cancelled their wedding. The hotel also offered 20% off of the whopping 16 rooms guests were able to book. They offered to put others on a waitlist. BUT, considering that the wedding aligned with a big event called Pumpkin Fest, guests on a waitlist would most likely remain on that waitlist and never be able to actually book a room. In the end, my friends cancelled their wedding just 4 months before their scheduled date with Hotel Conneaut, leaving them to scramble and call 30+ other venues to see if they could at least keep their date since the wedding invitations had already been sent. Luckily, they found a place and are moving forward. If you've ever planned a wedding, you know how much work goes into it. Having something like this happen so close to your wedding date is truly devastating and adds even more stress to the couple who have been endlessly planning for a year. So boo you, Hotel Conneaut, for creating such unnecessary stress for a really great pair. See ya never! read more

OMG, I wanted to leave last night but I was too exhausted to drive. It's a nightmare. I get the whole old hotel nostalgia thing; but this place just needs to go. It's filthy, extremely dated and uncomfortable. The guest room hallways have no lights, the room is just gross. I'm actually slept with my clothes on out of fear of being exposed to something in the bed. We bought the buffet for dinner at the front desk. My wife and I agreed it was among the worst meals we ever had. Stay away, you are better off slepping in your car. read more

My family and I rented a room at the Hotel Conneaut. We were drawn to the hotel because we had fond memories of visiting the park many years ago. We were given a key and navigated our way to the room. We tried to unlock the door multiple times to no avail, so we returned to the lobby area and asked for assistance. One of the employees told us that they would be up to show us how to open the door (there apparently was a certain way that you had to do it.) We went back upstairs and waited for about ten minutes before they finally came. They also failed to unlock the door, so they went to retrieve a master key. We entered the room and the atmosphere was very off-putting. It was unpleasant and extremely dated. I'm aware that this is an "old-timey" hotel, but the room looked unclean. Only one bed had a headboard, neither had a sham to cover the box spring, and both had wrinkled sheets. There was a television, but it was not connected and there was no remote to be found. I checked out the bathroom, and the things I found were pretty disgusting. There was a used toothbrush resting on top of the shower, and the towels were riddled with brown stains. The bathroom simply felt grimy and a huge risk for infection. I felt so dirty and regretted even putting my bags on the floor. There was no way that I was staying at this hotel. We went back to the lobby and were given a refund. The fact that guests whose original keys do not work are given a master key is very unsettling. Additionally, you can see into the rooms because the doors are askew. This is a huge security concern and I simply did not feel safe there. There is a big demand for a revival of this hotel and park, but some things are just too far gone to be salvaged. Only give the Hotel Conneaut a try if you're feeling adventurous and have a trunk load of disinfectant. read more

If you're looking for a five star hotel with perfect amenities I'd say conneaut in general isn't for you. It's so old and beautiful. The staff are extremely friendly and the rooms are very clean. My husband and I were married yesterday and chose to stay up here for a night. We are coming back here every year for our anniversary. It's beautiful, it's quaint and it's a step back in time. The hotel itself was okay, outdated, but doable for one night away. The room wasn't the cleanest, there was thick dust on the TV stand and an old deodorant lid on the floor. The tub had a soap scum line and the shampoo and conditioners were both half used. The television did not work and neither did the light on the ceiling fan. We went to the front desk and she gave us directions to fix the TV but we couldn't get it to work. The room also didn't have a fridge which was a bummer. There​ was also inadequate parking so we ended up parking a few blocks away. I don't think there​ is enough here to keep a kid occupied for more than one day, but both the beach and the amusement park we're literally right outside the hotel. The amusement park was cute but it was sad to see the lack of people there on a Saturday afternoon. Also, you could tell the staff hated their jobs. The worst part of our stay here was the spirit lounge. I'm pretty sure it was the worst service I've had anywhere. Their was three waitresses and you could tell none of them wanted to be there. We went to eat and were sitting for over 15 minutes before one lady came over and asked if we wanted menus. At the time we were the only people in restaurant other than two sitting at the bar. She took our drink and food order at the same time. Our food came before our drinks and we had to keep reminding her about them. I asked if the chips were home made, she sad no they were bagged ruffles so I ordered some with my quesadilla for my daughter. When they came, they were some kind of homemade Doritos like chip with some kind of spicy seasoning that she wouldn't eat. The quesadilla I ordered was supposed to have cheese, onion and pepper. It came with some kind of unidentified red sauce inside and cheese, with salsa and sour cream on the side. The server didn't know what it was either and was going to remake it. After another 15 minutes they ended up just taking it off the bill and I didn't eat. By the time we all got our drinks, which she brought sparatically, we were already done eating. The server had brought our check before my friend had even got his Pepsi. He got the pulled pork sandwich which he didn't like, and he eats everything. read more

The only good thing about this hotel is the lake outside. The staff is horrible. The rooms are disgusting. I booked and paid for a room with a queen sized bed. They gave me a room with 2 beds, one of which was almost on the floor. The bedding was horrible, the bathroom was gross. I asked the front desk person for a room with a queen bed and was given a key to a room that was even worse than the one I got. It's a shame the staff has the staff doesn't care about their guests. The hotel has an amazing location but that's about it. I came with my 2 year old daughter, maybe If they would have seen me with a man, they would have been ore helpful. We went for a weekend in June with a group of friends and had an amazing time. The hotel is a big, beautiful building with so much history. Most of the common areas have recently undergone remodeling (e.g., the lobby and the restaurant/bar). While some of the decor in the rooms is a bit older, we found that it added to the charm. I understand that they had recently added new a/c in the guestrooms and despite visiting on a super warm weekend, our room was very cool and comfortable. Our room was also very clean and the bed, pillows, etc., were very comfortable! The nightly rates are extremely reasonable for the accommodations and the location! The lake and the views of the lake from the huge wrap around porch are breathtaking. They have even added a really neat Tiki Bar area down by the beach (right between the hotel and the lake). The bar and beach areas include both sunny and shady areas to hang out during the day. At night, there is an adjacent area with a propane fire pit, which our group really enjoyed. The hotel is also right next to Conneaut Amusement Park. There is no charge for admission to the park, but guests can purchase tickets to ride individual rides -- including the Blue Streak -- a MUST, if you visit : ). So at the last minute we decided to book a room at Conneaut Hotel, we called & requested a specific room & we got it, even though it wasn't ready atm, they cleaned it and got it ready for us that late in the day (4 p.m.) We were thrilled! Calling this hotel is the way to book what you want. The girl on the phone was super nice. The room upon entering was very 1970's with green shag like carpet & OLD fixtures in the bathroom. IMHO quaint & charming, most importantly CLEAN! We had a great experience here & will return. Not a luxury hotel but if you want to step back in time...this is it! We were taking part of Ghost Lake's 13 Levels of Terror and thought it would be convenient to stay here but were quite leery to book this place based on the other reviews, therefore we waited to see the room before booking. First off, let's be reminded that this is an old nostalgic hotel and not a newly built accomodation with all the modern luxuries. My husband and I usually stay at Springhill Suites when they're available, just to give you an idea of our norm. Big doesn't describe it, it's massive! If you understand and appreciate turn of the century construction you'll love the wrap around porch, woodwork and ballrooms. Since we didn't book in advance our room options were limited, we took a smaller bed in order to get a bathroom with a shower rather than just a tub. Under normal circumstances we could have gotten both. Our specific room was redesigned and had the basics covered and relatively newer looking, fresh. Small, yes but we survived it. Bonnie greeted us at the front desk, she was friendly and accommodating, allowing us to see the room prior to booking. The room was clean and everything in order. Bonnie allowed us to forward documents to the hotel email and she printed them for us. The included breakfast buffet was awesome: Variety of juices donuts and bagels, coffee. Hot scrambled eggs, sausage, best tots I've ever eaten and French toast! I will be a repeat customer! read more

No it's no Kennywood but I don't think it's trying to be. A very nice place for a nice lake side trip. Hotel has some great historic views and the whole time we were at the park and in the hotel it felt like we are taking a trip back to the 1940s. Very cool nostalgic feel to the whole place. The amusement park has 8 to 10 rides and classic games and food and the waterpark has two slides I would guess about 4 stories high and the lazy river that is nice. Plus lake beach is right there also with nice warm water (July) . The hotel has a restaurant with good food and a full bar that is not expensive and open relatively late and there is a really cool beach bar also that is only open till 10 but a cool place to sit out in the evening and have a drink. About two weeks ago on May 25th myself, my boyfriend, and my photographer had come in to get maternity pictures. The photographer had already set it up with an employee there and had done so many times before. We arrive and go up to the front desk to get the room key and were greeted by a very disgruntled receptionist named Bonnie. She was very short and rude. From what she said she was not made aware of the arrangement and then continued to still let us up in the room even though she made it very clear that she was not happy about it. The whole basis of using the hotel was to be in the bridal suite so we could use their really nice bathtubs for these gorgeous maternity shots. After about 10 minutes of getting the flowers and what not set up we try to turn on the water and only the cold water would work. Being 8 months pregnant and very temperamental towards temperatures that wasn't going to work for me. So my photographer goes downstairs to just see if the hot water was turned off for that room or if it was off for the whole building. She's gone for about a good 5-10 minutes. She comes up and tells me that it was off for the whole building and that it wouldn't be turned on for quite a while. I had asked who she had talked to and she said the same receptionist that was down there before and that Bonnie had kept making comments as to it bothering her that we were here. Since though that the water wasn't going to work for us that day the photographer brain stormed and just did a quick couple photos of myself and then some including my boyfriend. We cleaned up and put everything back to the way it was when we got into the room and then proceeded down the stairs. We got down there, left a tip and the keys to the room and right when we are about to leave Bonnie turns to us and says "Well call back and see when the hot water is turned on, just actually give a heads up next time." All in all we were there for maybe an hour an hour and a half tops. Now all three of us that were there all work in service and completely understand that when all parties aren't fully informed it can be kind of sucky and annoying. So I let it slide how snarky and rude she was and had called back this Monday and asked if the hot water was fully working and if Wednesday morning (today) would be fine for them. It was a couple of minutes after 5 and the man had said that the receptionist stopped taking calls at 5pm there but he would leave a note for her and said it was perfectly fine. So again myself and my photographer go all the way out to the hotel earlier and both arrive at about 11:15 and we walk in there after gathering all the things we need out of our cars. We walk in there at 11:20 and come up to the desk and the same receptionist, Bonnie, was there and I could already tell that she was in the same mood as she was last time. The photographer and myself inform her about how I had called on Monday but it was after reception hours but he had left a note and that we'd like the same room as last time. She didn't say much but held her finger up and stated that she'd be right back and goes in this hallway/room area. There were two other workers behind the desk in uniform while two other guys were moving things around and from what I was guessing another worker/maid was telling the other two workers behind the desk that she was headed up the stairs to clean another bridal suite. Then Bonnie comes out of that hallway/room followed by some man. He, who I find out afterwards is named Frank, looks at me dead in the eye and points and states "Because of how rude and inconsiderate you were last time I do not want to do any type of business with you. You are not welcome here, you need to leave now." In a very decently loud tone. Let me just say I have NEVER been talked to by anyone who has owned or ran a business before in that tone. I honestly thought for a second that it was a practical joke because he was looking at me and directing it towards me in such an angry manor. When last time we were as polite as could be, put everything back the way it should be, and still tipped even though we couldn't get done what we needed and had such a hard time with the receptionist. I really honestly wouldn't have had such a problem even with him not wanting us there if he would've pulled us off to the side, privately, and said that. But instead he made a scene in front of multiple employees. And practically yelled at an 8 1/2 month pregnant woman for something that should not have been directed at me what so ever. I am 100% appalled with the way things were handled, and will not be returning for any type of reason. read more

Stayed Saturday Night for a family wedding. This is the worst hotel my wife and I ever stayed in. We check in and were told we reserved a "park" view room. I had reserved a "Lake view King" room. The put us in a room with a full size bed, floor in the room wasn't close to being level. Bathroom was small, dingy, and totally out of date. Shower was disgusting and small. Hot and cold water were reversed and not marked properly. Wedding food was below average. The "brunch" the next day was inedible. The french toast was so hard you couldn't cut the crust with the plastic knife provided. "Brunch" consisted of runny scrambled eggs, Hard French Toast, sausage, and bland potatoes, breakfast rolls must have been from last week, were stale. Also, our room had outlets without cover plates, saw open junction boxes in the hallways. This place is a fire trap, glad our room was by the fire escape. All this and they had the nerve to charge $150. If this wasn't a family wedding we would have left and found another hotel. read more

What an awesome place! We just recently had our wedding here and it was the best weekend ever! The ballroom is the best kept secret for weddings, the rooms were adorable, the food was awesome! Specially the Asiago chicken and the staff was so attentive to every detail and were so awesome to work with! I couldn't have asked for a better day! This lakefront, family-run hotel draws guests from near and far for weddings, reunions, or, just a day at the beach. The massive building is historic, with vintage details both on the grounds and in the rooms. Although the building is old and in need of renovations, a stay here brings you back to a simpler time when a stroll on the boardwalk, swimming in a lake, or an afternoon at the adjacent and historic Conneaut Lake Park fairgrounds, was all the entertainment one needed. The beds and linens are clean, and the staff are very friendly. The managers, Frank and Kathy, have a love for welcoming travel-weary visitors. Locals come for a casual drink and live music at the bar, or a waterfront view at sunset. The stay here was unique and pleasant, especially with seating overlooking the lake on the hotel's wraparound porch. Plenty of free parking. read more

This review is for the event planning of my daughter's wedding held October 20, 2018. Everyone at the Hotel Conneaut went over and above to produce the wedding of my daughter's dreams. The food was first rate, and I don't say that lightly. I live in NYC, and have pretty high standards, and for my last daughter's wedding, they were even higher. Tim the Exec chef met every demand, Joyce and Holly did the ballroom second to none, absolutely exquisite..and Bonnie handled the very onerous task of 'room reservations' like a pro, God love her. EVERYONE, from the wait staff to the cleaning staff were simply the best and that was a HUGE job. Everything was nice - with one exception. I needed ice. I saw the woman that manages the place back by the ice machine, but she had her hands full. I thought since it was simply a cup full of ice, I would just grab it (I was trying to be nice) but she bit my head off saying "employees only - it says that on the door". (Mind you, the door was open so it wasn't like I saw this sign when I entered the room.) Also, a simple "I'm sorry, we can't have guests back here-let me get that for you" would have been proper. I have never been treated with such a condescending and rude attitude in my life (and since I travel for work, I'm in hotels at least once per month all over the country). Maybe this woman was stressed out, so I'll overlook this since the rest of my experience has been nice. But, as I've learned, without the customer, you have no business/job...so maybe they should be your top priority. This one experience really was disappointing and put a damper on my little get-a-way. read more

Amenities: No shower; Leaking Toilet; No Television (unless you pay extra $ per night); 2 single beds for a couple's suite; carpet stains; there is a birdhouse INSIDE the room; a view of a dumpster (aka Lake View that costs extra); some (not all) rooms have 1 bathroom with a toilet but others do not; some rooms have 1 electrical socket in the living area but not in the bathroom. Additional Information: Some guests are given the hotel "master key" (so you can make 'new' friends with anonymous strangers who have access to your room; and a $10 per guest "continental breakfast" that include 1 egg, 1 piece of toast, 1 strip of bacon, and a kiddie carton of orange juice. Location: The hotel is surrounded by a half-abandoned amusement park. There is an arson who has set fire to a half-dozen buildings in this park where the Hotel Conneaut is located. Cost: $120 per night is the standard rate. This is an all-around interesting experience. The lake view is pretty nice when you are outside. You should pay the extra fees that are in addition to the $125 so you get: 1) a bathroom, 2) a bathroom with a functioning toilet and shower, 3) a 1980's box TV with rabbit ears (fyi-this will not get any TV stations), and 4) a room with at least 1, preferably 2, electrical sockets that are functional. These fees may cost you an additional $25+ per night. read more

We stayed here for one night. The room was obviously aged. Bit this is one room. Several other rooms have been upgraded but I did not see any of them. This is a place that if people want to see it saved can only do it by supporting it and staying there. I certainly hope that Conneaut Lake Park as well as Hotel Conneaut can be preserved for future generations. read more

11/18/13 my friend was here on vacay from oregon, staying with inlaws near buffalo, ny so decided to meet up in between pittsburgh pa and buffalo for ghost adventures haunted hunt style evening entertainment. made reservations the day before sunday 11/17 and i said i would be there for the 3pm check in time, he said ok see u tomorrow at 3pm. got there and the doors were all locked -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------banged on the front door and back door for an hour and even walked in the back door for the kitchen and nobody there or they were pretending not to be there. -----i was a little pissed off --------- i should opened a fire alarm door to set the alarm off ----- get some service but i didnt want get arrested or something. then at 8pm at night i get a call from the manager saying-----oh i was out of the office at 3pm-------------no u were avoiding me cuz u didnt feel like working-----------------terrible service. stayed at the holiday inn which was really nice and had free food ------------ didnt see any ghosts but we did get some weird orb photos out front of the hotel when we waited for someone to let us in. read more

Oh I have a good story about that hotel and also posted it on their Facebook page. So when my husband and I got engaged in July 2016 I immediately started looking for venues to hold my wedding at so I could get started planning. So my matron of honor is really good with planning events and whatnot and she was the one that set up the appointment to stop in and look at the ballroom and bridal suites, so I have no idea how long or how difficult that part must have been. The two of us get there early the day of the appointment. We walk up to the desk and there is the receptionist that happened to be Bonnie. She was obviously not informed that we were coming and was not very thrilled we were there. We explain to her why we're there and what we wanted to do, which was just look around for maybe 30 minutes top. That's it, not very hard. But apparently by her attitude, it was. Nevertheless she takes us down to the ballroom where they are setting up for another event. There's another lady there who is considerable nicer and can see we might be potentially paying clients for a large scale event. This lady, who I can't remember her name, was in charge was very upbeat and happy we were there, and explained everything from decorations to how a ceremony would work. I was smitten with it all and instantly fell in love with the space. But I didn't let it on obviously, didn't want Bonnie to make any smart remarks because I could tell she might. Bonnie proceeds to take us upstairs to the bridal suites, which were nice but outdated to me, which I voiced. And let's just say the look Bonnie gave me was the "if looks could kill." We looked around the rooms talking quietly to ourselves after that. Once we finished we went downstairs to the front desk and Bonnie instantly asked us when we wanted to book for the wedding. I looked at her like she was crazy and told her I had a few more places to look at before I made my decision. I did look at other places after that but none of them could really top the elegance of that ballroom. So a few weeks later my husband calls to book the space for our wedding. And guess who answered! Our least favorite receptionist Bonnie! Who proceeds to tell my husband to contact the event coordinator Joyce. No problem, but if she's the coordinator why did you ask me a few weeks ago? He calls Joyce who I guess was on vacation. Again no problem, left a message. They start going back and forth through email to set things up. We get the date we want which happened to be Memorial Day weekend, May 27, 2017, which I didn't even realize was that weekend until she pointed it out and threw, for a lack of better words, a hissy fit. Oh well, that's my date I want my anniversary to be one so get over it. She then tells my husband she needs to drop off a check for a deposit of $1,500, which is half of the rental expense. No biggie. So he drops it off at the front desk to Bonnie. No idea how she took that but it gets to the other guy you mentioned, Frank. Never met him, never want too apparently. There was no contract to sign. No paperwork. Nothing. So we figure all is good. Wrong! In late November I found out I was pregnant and wanted to postpone the wedding date until after the baby was born. He contacted Joyce and told him the situation and surprisingly she had no problem with that and to just let her know when we wanted to reschedule. Gotcha! I can do that. But with him and myself both being in the Army, the DOD wouldn't recognize him as the father for our child unless we were married. So long story short we did a small ceremony with close friends and family just to be legal in the Army's eyes. A few months later we decided we didn't want to do a big ceremony this year like we expected and wanted to hold off for a few years and do a vow renewal ceremony in the SAME hotel ballroom and instead wanted our deposit back from the hotel to help pay baby bills and get things for our child. Remind you he didn't sign any contract or paperwork. He contacted Joyce and let her know. And let me tell you the story she concocted! It went something along the lines of - we lost a lot of revenue on that particular weekend you wanted because of the holiday and you signed paperwork and blah blah blah. (Mind you we notified her 5 months before and the holiday hadn't even happened yet.) We even offered to just give her $500 of it to appease her for spending her precious time and give us the other $1000 back, but no that wasn't good enough. At this point I'm not a happy camper because $1,500 is a lot of money I could put towards a baby. So instead of talking any sense or reason into this crazy lady we contact Frank who is the one that actually has our deposit. This was almost 6 months ago and we have yet to here anything from that man or anyone at the hotel. I keep telling my husband to file with the magistrate but he says to give it time and it will correct itself. If I could file myself I would but it wasn't my check unfortunately. read more

IF this hotel was rated by price line it would be 3 1/2 star. It has a beautiful dining room with great food and full service bar. Off the lobby is a small bar where they have live entertainment on the weekends. A beautiful ballroom is used for parties and weddings. The lobby and downstairs areas have been completely restored . This hotel was built in 1903 and remained unchanged for over 100 Years before being brought out of mothballs by a couple of local families that have spent a ton of money and all of their time working on the place. The rooms are old but now have Air and Heat for the first time and a TV. New mattresses were added this spring so as rooms go not plush but you can still get a good nights sleep. The atmosphere is what you go here for. It is truly a step back in time and the people running the place couldn't be more perfect for the venue because they get why people come there for plain old fashioned fun. Located inside Conneaut Lake Park the hotel is perfect for a weekend getaway with or without kids. Live entertainment in the Hotel or the Beach Club (a one minute walk from the Hotel), or a beer or drink at the down under bar on the sand beach will keep you busy the whole time. Or relax on the huge veranda wrapping around the Hotel looking out over Conneaut Lake. You should try this place if you like a trip back in time. You can't recreate this stuff. read more
