I can't say enough great things about Hotel Giles and its owners, Ernie & Cara. They host a happy hour on the weekends and we met a lot of interesting people. We had a poet Shiarnice Taylor a.k.a. Lyric staying at the hotel and she did several readings. Her words were powerful! We also met a local Bruce Lee Deuley who has a podcast Organic Matters. He was fascinating to listen to. The location was perfect so you could walk to everything in town. The room was very cozy and clean. Breakfast was yummy! Everyone was just so nice! I highly recommend this place.

Parlor, where music, Hors d'oeuvres, and wine flow freely on Friday nights.

Adorable, comfortable, spotless rooms. However the staff really makes the hotel extraordinary. You won't believe how delicious the breakfast is. If your in the area, I can't think of a better place to stay.

This restaurant was absolutely fabulous, and the food was outstanding. We ordered the ribeyes,…read morefilet, and chicken, and every dish was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. For an appetizer, we had the stuffed peppers with brisket, and they were incredible. I highly recommend ordering them! The drinks were just as impressive. We enjoyed an Old Fashioned, a whiskey and Coke, and a couple of the specialty cocktails, all of which were excellent. The atmosphere was amazing, creating a great dining experience from start to finish. The wait staff was friendly, attentive, and provided exceptional service. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and look forward to coming back.

First course was crab lobster cakes. They looked over cooked but tasted pretty good. Next I had the French onion soup. It smelled of burnt cheese when they put it in front of me. But once I got passed that, the souo was good. Hubby enjoyed his cesar salad. I ordered surf and turf with risoto and broccolini. The bacon wrapped shrimp was also very charred and steak was very very salty. It was however cooked to order. If you like a lot of salt then you may like it. The risoto and broccolini were good. Hubbys rib eye was rare (mooing) just like he likes it. He enjoyed the seasonal vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes. Desert is made to order so it took about 30 minutes after order to get it. But it was worth it! The wild blueberry pie was the best part of the meal. It was a large handpie stuffed with these flavorful wild blueberries and ice cream on the side. We were full but managed to eat the whole thing! 8'oclock is when the music starts in the saloon. If you want a nice quiet romantic dinner then definitely go before 8. The music was very loud. In the saloon it was way too loud so we didn't stay for the band.

Iconic Music Venue & Nostalgic Dive Bar…read more If you are in the mood for a cold beer and great music, then take a scenic drive out to Devil's Backbone Tavern! It first operated as a stagecoach outpost & blacksmith shop. And it famously built the Tavern in Comal County during prohibition. It wasn't until the 1950s that a dance hall pavilion was added to the property. And while the tavern wasn't made famous through country songs, it remained a popular watering hole for the locals. Today, the new owners have helped revitalize the dance hall and brought about a renewed appreciation for this musical outpost. Some of the greatest singer/songwriters come to play at Devil's so be sure to check out the list of upcoming shows. So put Todd Snider in your playlist, check your GPS, and take a drive out to Fischer for a cold beer and great music! On a more personal note, I would love to see more listening room / storytelling type shows and album signing opportunities where artists can take advantage of the great acoustics and intimate space.
