We visited this past year, the antiquity of the hotel was great and the service was responsive. I wish I could have rated it higher. Here's the pros and cons: Pros: amazing views out the street side rooms and balconies. Outdoor restaurant was very good with attentive service. Room was very comfortable, we had a two story room with stone spiral stairs built into the structure. Close walk to the center town albeit a steep climb and watch for passing cars at high speeds on what is really a 1 1/2 lane two way road. I overall enjoyed the walks. Pool across the way with an amazing view of the sea. If you want to spend time in a clean, well kept 800 yr old structure and are willing to pay for it I would recommend with caveats below. Cons: Expensive, you are paying for the views and solitude that may be worth it to you, just be prepared. I felt like they took advantage of us twice, once we ordered a 30e bottle of wine and "mistakenly" received the older 60e version- our fault for not spotting the year difference between what was ordered and what was displayed prior to opening, perhaps.... the second was an arranged tour to Pompeii, again it was a pricey way to do it with a private driver but we wanted the flexibility. We paid by the hour and were promised to get back with 5 hrs or less, the driver chose to stop at a favorite photo location and as a result we went LITERALLY 5:05 for the trip, we were forced to pay for 6 hrs. Given the high hourly rate I thought that was unfair and we only found out the day after at which time it was not easy to dispute. Amalfi tips, downtown gets busy. Great little cafes for breakfast, but they don't open early! Don't try to convert USD, you can only do $200per day and that process takes 40 minutes.

It was worth it though because the place is beautiful. Our amalfi coast tour guide told us that the place is divided into roughly 5 sections with a glamorous wealthy people area behind the big main town. The island is also closed for a few months after Christmas because not very many visitors go during that time so everyone gets a break. He explained that amalfi pretty much survives only because of tourists. The area is known for their lemon products..especially the limoncello. The main area has quite a few shops and eateries as well as a few name brands. I got a lemon gelato at one of the gelaterias and I'm pretty sure they overcharged me at 5 euros. None of the gelaterias had pricing available though. There's a public restroom right outside the main area but other than that bathrooms are a bit scarce unless you dine or have coffee somewhere.

Stretching along southern Italy's coastline, it delivers a mix of natural beauty, historic charm, and Italian elegance. Each town along the coast has its own unique personality. Some of the cities include Amalfi, Positano, Ravello, Minori, Maiori, and Cetara. Winding coastal roads, lemon groves, and sparkling blue water create scenery that feels absolutely spectacular. Boat travel is one of the best ways to experience the coast. Ferries connect many towns and islands. The Amalfi Coast is a destination that lives up to its reputation. The hotel is located on the mountain high above the town of Amalfi. The views are spectacular. Each room has a balcony overlooking the sea, and waking up to this view every morning was delightful and relaxing. The room where we stayed was room 502 which has been recently renovated. The room was the perfect size for 2 of us, and included a bed, fridge, safe, mural, dresser, tea/coffee pot, bathroom with rain shower and a hand held shower, tub, toilet and bidet. There is a mini bar which we did not use except for bottled water (cost of 2 Euro). I know we had housekeepers, as our room was restocked and serviced beautifully daily, but the housekeepers were like ninjas. They were in and out but we never saw them. The front desk staff and bar/restaurant staff were so nice and friendly and humored us as we tried to speak a little bit of Italian. Each day included a delicious breakfast buffet and made to order eggs, pancakes, and coffees/tea/juices. We had a tablet placed in our room to order room service and communicate our needs to the staff. Included in the room is a very handy shuttle that runs throughout the day to take guests to Amalfi. Some local restaurants will send a driver to pick up and drop off guests who are dining with them. If you want to experience Amalfi without the noise and hustle and bustle then this hotel is a perfect fit!
