I drove in down a long pathway and was able to park in close proximity to the entrance. The security guard notified the front desk so they greeted my outside. The porter took my bags inside. I had arrived before check-in time so I had some time to explore the property before seeing my room. The garden area outside is very nice! I was told that the hotel would be closing for winter in a few days time and that is was slow. Since they did not have high occupancy, they upgraded me for free from a garden view to an ocean view. After 30 minutes or so the room was ready and I was escorted to see the room. It was quite impressive as there was the room itself but had a "sitting room" next it is so it was basically a suite. There was a door to the balcony that had a table for two and an ocean view. We were provided with a complimentary bottle of wine and a Panettone loaf. The room was nice an had everything except for a coffee maker. There was no hot water pitcher either. The bathroom had a toilet where the seat was not aligned to the toilet which is scary for a man as a pinched ball sack would not be good. This property is right next to Piazza Tasso which is the main square and is surrounded by restaurants and shops. There is a bar onsite as well as a Michelin starred restaurant called Terrazza Bosquet. The restaurant was good and the staff were amazing, front desk, concierge, bell staff and restaurant staff. Customer Service is a big priority here. A few small tweaks needed but was a five star experience!

Extremely unsettling experience at the restaurant…read more The most serious issue: our table being photographed by male staff members appeared to be happening and was witnessed by multiple women at our table. The bartender and a bald male staff member stood behind the white swinging bar doors across from us, laughing and repeatedly looking at a phone aimed in our direction. One of them then raised the phone over the doors. After the meal, I directly asked the bartender whether he had taken a picture of our table. Instead of answering clearly, he repeatedly appeared to deliberately misunderstand ("Oh, you want a picture?"), then became visibly nervous when I corrected him: "No, I mean earlier, behind the door." He laughed and claimed it was "a picture of the view." This made no sense. It was already dark outside, the restaurant lights were bright enough to reflect the interior onto the windows, and the bar area was positioned somewhat far from the windows. More than half of our table was women. It was deeply uncomfortable and, frankly, disturbing. There were other disappointments as well. Our party of six was informed only after being seated that we were required to order an exotic tasting menu rather than being allowed to choose individual dishes. A young female server with glasses was polite and genuinely helpful in trying to work with the chef so our table could agree on a single menu, and she was one of the few positives of the evening. Even so, the final bill exceeded €1,000 for food that was merely average. There was also a simple request to have something served on the side that wasn't, but that was just a small mistake. The restaurant itself is visually beautiful. However, what strongly appeared to be photographing guests, followed by an evasive response when questioned directly, crossed a line that no atmosphere or presentation can make up for. Privacy and professionalism should never be optional at that price point.

Since the next four days were full of touring different towns on the Amalfi coast, a boat ride to Capri and the Blue Grotto, and Pompei, I joined them at a different hotel that was more affordable since we basically were just sleeping and showering there. But for my first two days in Sorrento when I wanted to just chill and take in the beauty of this magnificent part of Italy, I chose Hotel Bellevue Syrene and I already want to come back!

The restaurant is also on a large terrace that jets out into the water. There is seriously not a bad seat in the entire house. This is definitely a spendy place to have a meal, but because the property and views are so dazzling I'd say it's worth the splurge. Drink menus do not have prices, and an Aperol Spritz is 25 euro. It is very large (almost like drinking two) but we were for sure a bit sticker shocked after seeing the bill. Luckily it's hard to be mad about anything in such a gorgeous setting. Entree pricing is similar -- lunch pastas are around 20-25 euro, and there is also a selection of pizzas for around 15 euro. And for the price you get a perfect sized lunch portion. I ordered couscous with shrimp which had a generous amount of shrimp and veggies. My husband had spaghetti and clams and he enjoyed it. Our hotel was a bit off the beaten path, and we initially decided to visit because Maestro's was one of the closest food options. Seeing the breathtaking property and views was a very nice added bonus. I'm so happy we decided to eat here!

One way, of course, is by road. The other way, and the way I highly suggest, is by boat. If you are going during daylight hours, call the hotel/restaurant and tell them you would like to take the boat from the main beach in Positano (the boat landing/pier is on the right side of the beach) over to the hotel. It is free. The views are spectacular as you take the short five-minute boat ride from the beach over to the landing of Villa Treville. Even if you have a reservation after dark, I would suggest you leave early enough that you can take the boat from the beach to Villa Treville. My one regret is we did not allow enough time to explore the grounds of the hotel prior to our dinner reservation. There are many beautiful pictures available on Instagram that show the various areas and grounds. It is a beautiful location and I would highly suggest you take the time to explore it before you eat dinner. We did arrive early enough that we were able to sit on the veranda and have before dinner drinks. You are high enough on the side of the mountain that you were overlooking the main beach and town of Positano. Stunning views to say the least. The restaurant at Villa Treville overlooks Positano. The views from the restaurant are gorgeous. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. This was the place to do it. It has spectacular views and a romantic setting. The restaurant itself was very good but be warned dinner can be very pricey. You can easily spend €200 on dinner. The wine can also be very expensive and substantially add to the €200. With that being said, every morsel of appetizer, entree, and dessert that we consumed on this evening was delicious. Villa Treville is a popular place for celebrities as well. You never know who you may see dining or staying at the Villa. Coincidentally, at the table directly behind us was Hugh Grant and Anna Eberstein. Thankfully, Hugh and Anna allowed us to eat our dinner in peace and did not ask for our autographs. After dinner, the front desk called us a cab which was able to take us by road back to our hotel. It was easily a 15 minute ride around a very winding road to get back to our hotel (Hotel Posa Posa). It was way too far to attempt to walk, especially after dark and a bottle of wine. This is a nice feature for any hotel, but in Positano it is an absolute life saver! The nearest street is a few flights up from the hotel entrance, so carrying heavy luggage down can be quite precarious. However, they have trained professionals ready and eager to help! I was amazed when they scooped up more luggage than I could carry alone over flat ground and easily traversed the steps to lead us to the hotel. Your first glimpse of Villa Magia is breathtaking. As you walk onto their courtyard, there are two beautiful trees and a flowerbed that overlook the cliff and the beachside of the city. Walking deeper in, you are met with a gorgeous terrace lined with vines and plenty of seating that overlooks the coast. It feels like walking into a postcard! This leads to the outer dining area for Luna, the hotel restaurant. Definitely try to eat here if it fits your schedule! The food is amazing, and the head waiter, Salvatore (Sal), was a joy to interact with. He will make wonderful suggestions and make you feel right at home. The staff at the front desk, just inside past the terrace, are also fantastic. They ameliorated every aspect of our stay, including providing us with an iPhone and messaging system via WhatsApp for 24-hour assistance. We worked primarily with Jada, who was amazing and so welcoming. When she found out we were planning a day trip to Capri, she not only reserved our tickets for us (which we found out later sold out, so we were lucky she had!), but also gave us her personal recommendations as she used to be a skipper for one of the boats. Our room was beautiful, spacious, and had absolutely amazing views. There were high ceilings and even built-in sauna! Our favorite parts were the sun room and the balcony garden. Every morning they would deliver breakfast to our room (which we had pre-selected the night before and sent via WhatsApp), and they would set it up wherever we liked. Our entire stay the staff made us feel like both family and royalty all at once. I absolutely cannot recommend Villa Magia enough. Hurry to make your reservation, because there are only 12 rooms on property! A one-of-a-kind experience that is sure to enhance your visit in beautiful Positano.
