This hotel has been on my list to try out on my work trips to Austin. It's situated right in the heart of the Music Lane complex, providing easy access to the shops and restaurants. This hotel has a vibe, as most Bunkhouse hotels do. I appreciated the large-format concert photo prints in the room I stayed in, tying things back to the "Live Music Capital of the World." The city view room layout took some getting used to, mostly because the sink is located outside the area where you have the toilet and shower. I see the logic in doing so if you're sharing a room, though, but it made for some awkward hand maneuvering out of the pocket door area. As for noise, I didn't have any issues sleeping, but in the early morning, you will hear trucks (likely merchandise for the Music Lane shops or trash collection). There was one night that I came back from dinner, and the courtyard had a wedding party, which you could hear from the 4th floor. Maybe consider a white noise app if you're a light sleeper. The staff at this hotel is so incredibly nice and accommodating. It's the main reason I rated the hotel 4 out of 5 stars. If you know Spanish, it may come in handy. I think the misses are minor. Not all rooms come with an iron, which I get if you have 50+ rooms; that is a lot of irons people might not be using. It's not a big deal to have the front desk send one up, but it is just a basic Conair. I would've liked to have a gym on-site, too. On my second-to-last night, I called an Uber to get me to a work dinner. For some reason, it had the driver cut through the parking garage, so the guy gave up and parked outside of Lululemon. Keep an eye out on the map and let the driver know it's best to take the light instead. Bonus: Equipment Room is the basement record listening bar, but be sure to make a reso. read more

Visited the Hotel Magdalena recently for the SwiftFit Revive and Thrive event. This event is one of the many regular on-property cultural and wellness programming, including yoga, live music and other activities. I might be biased because I got married here but this is my favorite hotel in Austin. :) We go back as often as we can for events like Luck on the Lawn, and sometimes just to remind ourselves of our best day and it truly never disappoints. We stayed in the terrace suite where the staff welcomed us with a bottle of champagne, and my friends from out of town were able to bring their pets! The pool and Mag bar are probably our favorite spots about this hotel. Don't skip it for the most convenient spot near the walkable South Congress! read more

Great design and service, but the room was so odd. I got the worst night sleep ever from a combination of the noise outside, the noise from the fridge, and the very weak AC. Coffee machine was in the closet with no plug, and I had to take it over to the bathroom sink to plug in. The bathroom felt like a college dorm situation. read more

The staff were so incredibly friendly and welcome. We parked right up at the front so there was no walking up to the doors at all. Yes it's noisy but it's down town Austin and I wouldn't expect anything different. Everything was clean and ready for us when we got there. Didn't try the restaurant :/ All the decor is unique, sleek, and eco friendly! This place is definitely somewhere I'd recommend for tourists who want a fancy feeling get away without being "overly bougie". read more

The location is terrific, right in SoCo, South Congress. The garden and pool area are well kept and maintained. Their event area is which is a lawn with string light above looked beautiful at night. The rooms are a bit silly to me. The restroom that can be closed off consists of the toilet and shower, but the sink area is adjacent to the bed. The light switches are all connected to a "master" switch so I initially thought multiple lights did not work. The restaurant, Summer House, is very good. read more

Updated note: After check-out, I got a separate bill for an extra $28/day in extra "resort fees", which supposedly covers the WiFi and pool towels? Having an undisclosed extra fee after the fact - for what are considered basic amenities at other hotels - is extremely irritating and enough to keep me from coming back again. Original review: If you want to be in the mix of everything South Congress has to offer, this place is for you. If you're a bit of a party person, all the better! I found the suite perfectly spacious, well designed, clean, and comfortable. I really enjoyed the little balcony, open concept of the courtyard, the calm, cozy pool, and access to basically unlimited dining and shopping within a mile walk. As others have mentioned, there is some noise at night. It is irksome but nothing a white noise app can't fix. And I personally like that housekeeping doesn't come every day - I find that wasteful and intrusive. Please note that parking is not included and parking in this area is very costly. The cheapest nearby lot is about $25/day to self-park, so factor that in, too. read more

When I saw earbuds next to the bed I should have realized it was going to be a long night. Constant noise in the alley between the hotel and restaurants across. From delivery trucks to the trash being taken out, it was terrible. Staff was nice. Restaurant was delish but this noise is a deal breaker. My partner and I we're celebrating our shared birthday so we checked into the Magdalena for a couple nights. We were sent a celebratory bottle of bubbles! So classy. The room was a giant suite with a screened in porch area. We had the luxury of hanging in or out. Cool modern amenities and an excellent wet bar. We hung out at the pool all day. It was peaceful and quite. You can order drinks and food pool side which is a nice perk. They have great frozen drinks and the other guests were social and cool. The best part of the staycation was how friendly the staff were. They go above and beyond and do it with a smile. We were very well taken care of. We had peace and quiet and i cannot wait to return. read more

Where do I start? Mia at the front desk was extremely helpful allowing us to check in early after an exhausting night of travel!! Andrew escorted us through the grounds to our room. We met Shelby (Head of Maintenance), who obviously took pride in his work, because the grounds were beautiful. The pool was perfect to cool off during the hot August days. Plenty of lounge chairs in sunny or shady spots. Summer House restaurant staff (Nichole, Allen, Makayla, and Monica) get mad props for all the hospitality and delicious suggestions. The French toast made me see gold stars with each bite !! Thanks Allen!! Highly recommend this hotel!! When we travel back to Austin, we will be staying at Hotel Magdalena every time. Read the old reviews and my experience differs by a magnitude From the moment the valet accepted my girlfriends car to the moment we left, the service was excellent. Felt very welcome and appreciated The location is amazing. There is a ton of shopping and walkable yoga. LuLu and Alo might be a little too close as she can go a little cray cray. Lady Bird lake to walk the pupp is so accessible. Minus one quarter star for no free breakfast Plus side is taking coffee at SoCo hotel's back patio If you like puppies, foodies and SoCoooo, this hotel is a gem I think the first person we met was "Ben" the bell Captain near valet. As I am sitting on the balcony this morning, savoring the first light of day, I come to appreciate even more so the beauty of this property. I feel as if I'm staying in an oasis in the heart of the city of Austin. Hotel Magdalena is the new kid on the block, having opened, I believe, in 2020. As it is with most boutique hotels, it has personality, which in turn makes them unique. We checked in last night and my first impressions were that the location and valet parking were easy to find and deal with (in that order). Next, you can either walk up the stairs or go through a door to take the elevator to the check-in lobby. There, we found two ladies who greeted us with a big smile, wearing the hotel's t-shirt (also sold there with other souvenirs and gifts). Coming out of the lobby, we came in awe of the beautiful grounds, landscaping, and the pool shaped like Barton Springs pool. The elevator to the room was to our right. We chose the studio and to our pleasant surprise, it came with a small balcony and the cutest little outdoor furniture set. The room itself is comfy with flair and design. My favorite features are in the details: the pretty bath tiles, terra cotta bathroom accessories set, smell-good bath toiletries, cool wall art. Note that the bathroom has a pocket sliding door that I nearly missed, but that's on me! Last night we also had the pool all to ourselves from 9pm until closing time at 10pm. Great amenities, safe area, convenient location, unique style, I would highly recommend this place for couples and family! read more

Really enjoyed our stay! The rooms are quite nice, the grounds are gorgeous and very oasis like in the central courtyard. The staff was friendly and really helpful. Ashley at the front desk took care of us for most of the stay and she was so great! So friendly and helpful, we forgot a few things and she was able to provide them for us, as well as giving us some nice recommendations of things to do on our trip. We enjoyed the food and cocktails we had at the restaurant, and the service was attentive. The speakeasy bar is super cool and we had some amazing drinks. I'll definitely be back!! read more

It's perfectly located and the the room service (from restaurant below) is fantastic. Other than that it's totally mediocre. The bathrooms are awkward and hard to get ready in. If you're looking for a place to hang out outside of your room, you're out of luck-- and in the summer months or inclimate weather-- you'll likely realize the poor design choice. I'd recommend the nearby South Congress Hotel: same rates and way better. Oh! I forgot to add: it's super loud, my key would often not work, and if have to take the only elevator down to get another (another design flaw); they took forever to bring up any item, be it room service or an additional blanket; and the service wasn't great. The service at Summerhouse restaurant is fantastic though. read more

South Congress has become a tourist trap - lots of shiny things that don't deliver. I left a pair of slippers in the room, I called the hotel as soon as I figured it out the next day, spoke with the front desk - I got no return phone call and I got no slippers. I had to call again to confirm that yes, indeed, the slippers were not "found." They apparently pay their housekeeping staff so little that they're motivated to take anything left behind home with them. Oh, and btw, the pool is a joke - unless you're 5-10 yrs old, it's the right size for that age group. Summer House (the restaurant) was good. Go for the food and the landscaping, skip the customer service at the front desk. read more

So... Hotel Magdalena has a nice ambience, but it's really just cheap chic. Everything is mostly slapped together. I stayed for five mights and it was not until towards the end of the last day that housekeeping even showed up, it was hard to make it with one wash cloth and I just expected better for such an expensive hotel. My mini fridge was broken when I arrived (hot drinks) which was disappointing, but that got fixed. My $50 room service breakfast each day came without salt/pepper or ketchup, I need at least pepper with eggs and ketchup for the home fries. My keys did not work at some point and had to trek down to the lobby. There is only one elevator and none of us could figure out how to get to the bottom floors with the stairs making it essential to use to use the one elevator. The staff is borderline rude except for the people working in the restaurant/bar. I would stay here again if I got a good rate, but only under those conditions. read more

I really don't review places unless I feel like people need to know. My boyfriend and I stayed here for a longer weekend for our first vacation in about a year. Before we would often stay at hotels in Austin, south Congress and the line our the house to's. We tried this one out to lay at the pool all day and relax. Issues: They send you an email making it seem like they want a custom experience, the response I got back was obviously generic Our room was right next to the elevator (313) so no views and loud all night No one came and cleaned or changed the towels the entire time, even when we called to confirm some one was coming We asked to check out an hour later and when we tried to get back in the room our key did not work, and the housekeeper chastised us. I mentioned this to the front desk and the manager handed me a card with her email and asked me to write her which I did... and never got a response back. It's fake upscale, fake hospitality. Not sure where to begin... When we arrived at the hotel the Friday evening of Memorial Day at 7 pm, we went immediately to our room to put our 10 month baby down to sleep only to find the room a sweltering 89 degrees. I phoned down to the lobby who told me that "yes, we are an eco-friendly hotel." I'm all for saving the environment, but leaving rooms unbearably hot for arriving guests just seems like bad business. It's not even July yet... Fast forward to midnight and my baby is asleep but my wife and I are still up because the thermostat that I turned down to 66 had only gone down 3 degrees in 5 hours. I walked down to the lobby and the front desk graciously upgraded us to a suite with a working AC unit. A very kind gesture, but the suite looks like a youth hostel. The sink is in the middle of the bedroom. The hotel itself used to be an apartment complex and it looks...like an apartment complex. The restaurant is very mediocre but the service is very good. Throughout the weekend our mini fridge (which was storing the baby food) broke, the shower handle broke, and the toilet clogged for no reason. All in all it was a very poor experience. With so many hotel options in Austin these days I would strongly recommend staying elsewhere. read more

This hotel is super cute and chic and the staff is great but there is construction going on all around all night long!! If it's the little things you're looking for like sleep, peace and quiet, Kleenex, drawers, you've come to the wrong place. Delivery trucks, landscape people, steel workers, garbage trucks all throughout the night, before 5am. Honey bucket luckily waited till 7. Haven't slept a wink. I know people have to work during this awful time, but with the hefty price tag here, I would've liked a little shut eye. Will take it up with mgmt to see their take on it. Please give this place a try...in a few months when construction subsides. UPDATE: NIGHT TWO: The party next door has been going on all night now (currently 6:00 am) with guests trying to talk over blaring music. Can hear everything as walls are paper thin. Garbage man came at 3:30 am banging the dumpsters around. Did I mention walls are paper thin?? Trying to get WiFi...dang it's down. Guess I'll make coffee...darn, no coffee in the room. Maybe there's something in the mini bar...oh no, no mini bar either, 6:10...volume increasing, Packing up now, hours before planned. One and done for me. You decide. What a horrible experience!!! Currently on our second night of a three-night stay and just about everything falls shorts. The KEY CARD situation needs immediate attention, we have been locked out of our room three separate times, and mind you every time the staff replaced the card. So without having a card that works that also means you have no access to move floors via elevator. So you would think stairs right? well no that is not an option because the stairs don't go to the lobby. Have no clue how this place ever paced an inspection by the fire department. Secondly the staff, rude as all hell. They sell this place as dog friendly, don't believe that for a second. Was in the common area letting my 5-pound dog relieve itself and some young lady rudely told us to get off the property so he could relieve himself because there was a private event. I understood her but there was no event going on currently and the funny part of it all was I was taking part in the event. I think the entire staff needs retraining on how to approach their guest. In summary, I would avoid this place. Between the staff and issues with basic items, it is not worth the $$$. read more

This hotel doesn't merit all the hype. The rooms are minimal. If you tend to leave behind items you stashed in hotel drawers, you don't have to worry here. There are no drawers. The room gives you one hand towel, and six individually folded tissues - use them sparingly. The hotel conserves water, so the shower and faucet are true low pressure. There is no one to help you with your bags. Good luck requesting a late checkout. First we were told to ask at 7 a m the day we were leaving. When we did that, we were told we had to ask 24 hours in advance. They said they would do it anyway. But they didn't. They shut down our key at noon. Our stuff was in our room and we were not. Our friends had asked for late checkout when they booked. It didn't matter. They got locked out at 12 also. Basically this hotel is a luxury dorm with few amenities, and with rule enforcement that you might have to learn by word of mouth. read more
