Was a quaint little place. It's a small house looking hotel. Looks more like a tiny condo than a hotel. Very peaceful and quiet. Pretty outdoor area upstairs. We are a party of 3 and there was a pull out bed from the couch inside our room so that was very accommodating. They gave us complimentary beers, robes, coffee, teas, eye masks at our request so that's very nice. Parking is a bit cramped, but you'll fit. It's close to activities so that's good. 8/10 recommend. read more

This place is so cute as it's a former house renovated into a seven room boutique hotel. Our stay couldn't have been any better. We were in one of the two ground floor rooms with king size bed, the one facing the street yet didn't hear any of the street noise, probably because we turned on the white noise machine which is provided in the room. We had everything we needed in our room and plenty of space. This place has lots of charm and feels very welcoming. Erin at the front desk is who I spoke with when booking our room weeks before . She was present when we arrived and so very nice and helpful. My husband and I felt a bit too old for the establishments in the area (we're in our 60's and did go to Shangri La!) but for younger folks, the location is walking distance from many interesting looking bars and street life at it's location on E. Cesar Chavez and close proximity to Sixth St. Will definitely stay at the Heywood Hotel again when visiting Austin. read more

Stayed at the Heywood for 4 nights/5 days. Loved staying here. It was very comfortable. The staff is super nice and helpful. They give you a nice kit for your room for coffee, robes, lots of snacks and drinks. They have a nice communal courtyard, and various other areas to spread out outside of your room. There's a communal wet bar where you can get ice, hot water, cold water, dishes and there's a microwave. We brought oatmeal, so this was really nice. Rooms were very clean and modern. They give all the essential toiletries like soap, lotion and Kevin Murphy shampoo/conditioner. Parking was easy. The area has lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance. I slept beautifully each night, so highly recommend staying here! I didn't want to leave. read more

The Heywood was truly my home-away-from home for 6 nights! I visited Austin by myself to complete 1 of 4 clinical residencies at a local university, and by the time I left, I was so attached to the property (and my Queen Balcony room specifically) that I became wistful at the idea of leaving! LOCATION: The Heywood is located in the hip, eclectic, lushly green neighborhood of East Cesar Chavez, which is wonderfully devoid of the high-rise buildings (and congestion) you'll find in the city center West of the freeway. East Cesar Chavez is packed with unique, delicious places to eat (La Barbecue, Canje, and Joe's Bakery, just to name a few), and the blocks surrounding the Heywood are suburban and residential, adding to the homey feeling you get while staying here. The Heywood is a 3-minute drive from Whole Foods on 5th street, so you can stock up on breakfast food and snacks for your stay. HOSPITALITY: Will and Erin hosted the property during my stay, and both of them were so welcoming, helpful, accommodating, and offered much-appreciated recommendations for local activities and under-the-radar food spots to check out. I feel that Will and Erin struck just the right balance of professionalism and helpfulness, while allowing me my privacy and solitude. While I didn't run into the housekeepers since I was gone from 8am-5pm, they were thorough and thoughtful. My room was spotlessly clean every day when I got home, down to the ridges of my coffee machine! The Heywood has a kitchenette-type area inside the main building (about 20 feet from my door), where there is filtered hot and cold water on tap, a microwave, and stacks of coffee cups, clean bowls, plates, cutlery, and napkins, among other things. On my first morning, I took a bowl to my room for my yogurt and fruit for breakfast. The housekeepers took notice, and from that point on, placed a new clean bowl and spoon above my mini fridge every day when they came into clean. It is small, thoughtful touches like this that make you feel at home, and I appreciated it so much. CREATURE COMFORTS: I entered my room to find an awesome welcome basket containing various snacks from local vendors, coupons for local businesses, organic energy drinks, chocolate bark, etc. plus a thoughtful handwritten note from the staff welcoming me to Austin. My room was outfitted with a coffee machine, fresh ground coffee and all accoutrements, mini fridge stocked with local beers, a high-end air purifier, and an EXCELLENT and versatile air conditioning unit, which is much appreciated with Austin's weather in June. One unexpected and neat discovery was the white noise machine that Heywood provided; I had never used one before, and it was a total game-changer for falling asleep fast, and staying asleep! The Heywood also provides each guest their own designated parking spot, free of charge, which is so valuable in the age of giant corporate hotels that charge an arm and a leg for that convenience. The parking spots are just down the stairs from the courtyard, which made coming and going throughout the day a total breeze. Lastly, the Heywood provides bikes to guests, which is such a cool way to explore the local food spots, explore the surrounding residential areas, and take in the beautiful Colorado River that is literally down the street! ROOM INFO: I stayed in the Queen Balcony room, which is on the Northeast side of the property, with its door opening to the outdoor courtyard. It is spacious, thoughtful, and comfortable. It has a long desk area with a window facing out into the courtyard, and since I came to Austin for a clinical residency, it was wonderful to sit here in the evenings and work on my reports as the sun went down. Both this window and the glass door leading to the balcony have blackout blinds, in case you don't want the sun to wake you in the morning. The room has a cute balcony with seating for two, which is set well off the street (so it's not too noisy), and is in a nook over the driveway, so you get the outdoor access without being stared at by passers-by. The balcony was such a peaceful place to spend my morning, drinking coffee as the sun rose, and listening to the grackle birds Austin is known for. The bathroom is sleek and modern, and the shower has a skylight peeking into the massive tree above the room, giving you a little window into nature. If you visit Austin, staying at the Heywood is an absolute must... it is one of those truly unique, one-of-a-kind stays that are so rare to come across. read more

Had a fantastic stay at Heywood. It's all about the little things. This is a 7 room bungalow style hotel. Upon booking, they give you complimentary options for the room. I love that they provided a dark towel for colored hair! That's always an issue for me while traveling. Such a thoughtful touch. Also all communication and instructions was done by text up until arrival where I was greeted at my car in the small parking garage. Then I was shown to my room. The entrances to the building are key card access so it felt very safe. My room was so cute! Chocolates on my bed upon arrival. Also sanitized coffee/tea, cups, silverware etc items in a box. It is one of the cleanest places I've ever stayed. Felt more like an Airbnb stay. The staff are so attentive and kind. Made my stay so relaxing! I'll definitely be back! read more

My husband and I are locals and spent the night at the Heywood for a no-kids getaway. It exceeded my expectations. Our room was stylish and well-appointed, brightened by windows and skylights. We had a little private courtyard which was charming with a twinkle-light jasmine planter. The room was so secure - you had to have a keycard every entry point, even if you entered from the parking lot. We sat on the front porch in the swinging chairs as we waited for our ride, watching East Austin drive by. East Austin boasts many awesome restaurants (offering both inside and outside seating) within walking distance of the Heywood. It is close to downtown plus there is a nice running path along the river that is only a few blocks away. The Heywood is a boutique hotel with 7 rooms. Our room #4 was spacious, clean, quiet and even had its own private courtyard. My husband treated me to a staycation for our 20th and I have to say he e chose wisely!! The Haywood is amazing! Small, intimate and perfect. The architecture is beyond perfection no unit shares a wall, ceiling or floor. The soaker tub was what I needed and why we stayed, I took 3 soaks in 36 hours. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. It truly felt like being home away from home. Tons of great restaurants and bars within walking distance. We used the bikes to ride along the lake to explore the beets of Austin. If you don't know where to go just ask the front desk seriously they are a wealth of information. I know it's strange that I am giving a five star review over at a hotel I never stayed at. My friend stayed there over the weekend to run the Austin Marathon and Half Marathon. I wanted to see the place because I saw photos of it. I must say it is nice. It has the modern decor in the lobby and upstairs there's a patio/lounge area. The hotel room is small but comfortable. It definitely has an intimate feel to it. Great for a stay-cation and I would definitely stay here if I can. There's only seven rooms at this hotel and not much parking. read more

Amazing place!!! The rooms were very clean, modern...the bath/shower combination was awesome!!!!....And the staff?? Sooooo accommodating!!! There were 9 of us there for a 4 day birthday trip...the staff had bicycles for us and a route map highlighted with fun stops!! They helped out in every way possible!!! (Felt like a princess!!) There is a patio upstairs outside between our rooms where we would all meet for cocktails and also a cozy place downstairs for cocktail hour!!! It was a bit chilly to enjoy the front yard with comfy chairs too... Walking distance to sooooo many great restaurants, bars, shopping and breweries... I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL First of all, this place comes across friendly and professional and they are neither of the sort. My husband and I had a very bad first stay experience with the room we were put in. The walls were paper thin and the room we were staying in was underneath a flight of stairs!! we complained and asked to be moved to a different room but management did nothing to make it right. As a matter of fact the owner Cathy was aware of the situation and did nothing which to me was pure negligence. We checked out 1 day later and still no consideration of the issue. The issue escalated even after we got back home. Cara the director of revenue attempted to make things right by inviting us back to the hotel to stay in a different room at a a supposed discounted price. This ended up being a lie and on top of that Cara strung us along for 6 months to book a room!! The owner Cathy finally just stepped in after we were strung along for 6 months and made matters worse by insulting us in an email, lied about promises being made over the past 6 months and then she threw us on to another hotel! That is appalling!! This place takes no responsibility for their actions and disrespects their customers time and integrity. DO NOT STAY HERE read more

Easily one of the best places to stay at! Everything was on point: from the welcoming and very friendly staff to the super clean, cozy and cute rooms. Me and my boyfriend came here for a 5-day vacation and we LOVED each minute we spent in Austin! Kathy and her staff had AMAZING suggestions on sightseeings, places to eat and things to do around the city. The Heywood offers FREE BIKES that we used almost daily for little excursions along the (very close!) Lady Bird Lake and also to get to see Downtown, the Central Library and the State Capitol. The bikes were super well-kept, well-stored and super comfortable to ride. Kathy even drew us a map highlighting the must-sees and she SO kindly and thoroughly walked us through it. Seriously, what else can I say??? There are plenty of GOOD places to eat around the hotel that give you the best of what foodie Austin has to offer: BBQ, Mexican cuisine, Tacos and more! The weather cooperated really well so we also enjoyed reading and/or chatting sitting on the nest chairs on the front porch. It was truly lovely. The hotel rooms are cozy and intimate. I'm a very, very...VERY picky sleeper but I had the best sleep IN MONTHS here! No noise, perfect room temperature and extra comfortable bed! So much that I plan on buying a set of pillows like the ones I found here for my home. If you are coming to Austin, look no further. Seriously, this is where you want to stay. I LOVE boutique hotels and I LOVE to support them! I first heard about Heywood from one of my friends who happens to know both Kathy and George, owners of Heywood. My husband and I thought about staying here for NY's Eve 2012 when I heard that they would be opening that week. We ended up not staying here because my gf backed out but we definitely plan on staycationing here. Since I have not actually been a guest of Heywood, my review is based on the hotel atmosphere, the rooms, and Kathy and George! The weekend of the Austin Modern Home Tour we were right down the street from Heywood. Since we were passing by it, I told my husband we should make a stop there to check it out. When we pulled in George was doing some yard work outside. I told him we had heard about the hotel and wanted to check it out. He was very welcoming. George invited us in and showed us around the property. Unfortunely the rooms were booked so we were not abel to see them. George introduced us to his wife Kathy. I told her about my friend who referred us to her. We had interrupted her while she was cleaning one of the rooms so we quickly chatted - she told us of their grand opening the following Tuesday and we got out of her hair. We showed up the following Tuesday to their grand opening event and I will say it was fantastic! Good food, champagne and wine...we got to see several of the rooms and they are SUPER DUPER CUTE!!!! The courtyard/rooftop patio area is a great space as well. Kathy and George and their architecture firm did a WONDERFUL job putting this gem together!!! I'm fairly new to Yelp. I haven't reviewed many of my experiences (even though I consult Yelp regularly), however I do feel compelled to write something about my anniversary stay-cation at the Heywood Hotel. I'm not sure where to start, maybe when my girlfriend and I arrived at the seven-room boutique hotel? I had seen pictures of Heywood's high-end design and driven by in the car - that's why I booked a room after all - yet the craftsmanship in the lobby was unparalleled to any store/shop/hotel I've ever been to. They've done an excellent job creating a minimalistic, modern feel, while still incorporating those comforting personal touches that make the space feel inviting. A lovely woman checked us in as I turned in circles, admiring the wooden floors, built-in benches, colorful throw pillows, a chair and side table with the Austin Chronicle waiting to flipped be opened... It was beautifully charming, but not in a quaint bed and breakfast way, in the way trendy places make you feel cooler just for being there. The woman - Kristin - showed us up to our room - which was just as well designed and unique as the lobby. I'm a borderline clean freak so naturally the spotless stark white bedding and the floor-to-ceiling white-tiled walk-in shower (with skylight) were appealing. We plugged in an iPhone to the speakers provided (Wilco), poured a glass of pinot noir, took account of all the local (very well priced) snacks and beverages, then went out to our own personal balcony to relax and play cards. When hunger hit, we meandered down the street to Bufalina, a chic little pizza joint only a block away from the Heywood. We split a delicious vegetarian pizza and salted caramel sundae. Stuffed and tired, we collapsed into the most comfortable bed for a luxurious sleep. We awoke in the morning to hot coffee and spa-quality showers, then walked a few blocks to Cenote for another great meal. In all, this was the best experience I've had at a hotel. While moving across country, I decided on an impromptu stop in Austin. I stumbled upon Heywood Hotel by accident. Given that it was a boutique hotel, I was expecting to be priced out of the place. To my surprise, the rooms were not too much more expensive than any local Airbnb, so I booked a stay. The property is beautiful and extremely well kept, the management friendly and super helpful, and the amenities are fantastic. The best part of my stay however was actually what happened when something went wrong. My room on the first floor was experiencing a problem with the hot water in the shower. After a few minutes of attempting to resolve the issue, I was upgraded free of charge to a better room and given a free local craft beer. The customer service was absolutely fantastic. These folks know how to run a great business. Will definitely stay here again should I get the chance! read more

We loved the Heywood! First of all the hotel in itself is beautiful and clean. It is in the east side on Austin so about a mile from downtown which was walkable if you enjoy a stroll. We never felt unsafe. During the day we used the free bikes and rode all over Austin which was so convenient. I love being active and having it as an integral part of my day was great. Kathy was super helpful and gave lots of advice of things to o and see and restaurants to try. We did not have any bad experiences. There are many places short by to eat and all the stores and restaurants are very eclectic. Our stay was great. We stayed in the queen standard upstairs. The shower is amazing as the sun greets you through the skylight each morning. What a great way to wake up. No complaints, hope to be back one day. read more

Got the Queen Deluxe room for Valentine's Day and really enjoyed our stay! We were welcomed with free beer at the desk, check-in was painless, and the room was very nice and absolutely clean. 4 stars because the room we stayed in was directly under the stairs and right next to the check-in desk, so we could hear everything and I'm pretty sure anyone could hear us. Not very private, and frankly pretty loud when people were going up and down the steps to get coffee in the morning. Also, the video on demand didn't work on our TV. :( If you're visiting Austin, stay here instead of some chain hotel and get a nice local Austin experience... but book one of the rooms detached from the original bungalow so you can have some privacy. read more

The Heywood is the place to stay in Austin. We got the Queen Balcony room for Valentine's eve and loved the room. They've paid attention to detail and it definitely shows. The bed and linens were super comfortable, the soaps and shampoos were top notch, great art and decor, but my favorite part was the sky light shower. Too bad we only stayed for one night. The owner Kathy was super friendly and even gave us a few complimentary beers that we enjoyed on the balcony. Our stay at Heywood Hotel was nothing short of amazing. Probably the best interaction/experience I have ever had with a hotel or B&B. Our flight to Austin landed late, around 11PM. Kathy tracked our flight, stayed up and waited for us to check in, and when we landed, we had a text message from her with suggestions of places that were still open for a late dinner. The hotel is very modern, clean and has a cool and comfortable feel. Rooms: Our first night we stayed in room #1, the room off of the lobby facing the road. The room was beautiful and had a cozy-vibe with decorative fireplace and sitting chairs. There was a mini-fridge with two complementary local beers! The king-sized bed was comfortable, and we had no issues with noise at all. We stayed in room # 1 for one night and stayed the next day in San Antonio; my significant other wanted to go back to Austin so we could stay two more nights in the hotel! Luckily, they had availability over the weekend, and we were booked in room #2 (which is also off of the lobby) for two more nights. This room was also big, with a clean modern-design and had a skylight too. I think it was a queen-sized bed but still very comfortable. This room also has a mini-fridge with more complementary local beers!! Bathrooms in both rooms had humungous tubs, nice shampoos, conditioner and body wash that my girlfriend liked (and haaaaad to purchase from amazon on the spot). Rooms also had concierge iPads with information about the hotel and things to do which was a cool touch. Amenities: Wi-Fi was super-fast. Never had issues with connectivity. Free parking. There is complementary coffee in the lobby starting around 7 in the morning (but we usually opted to go next door to Flat Track coffee). Also, these taps in the rooms that provided hot water for tea (tea bags included in the rooms). There are free bicycles that we didn't get to use (we just used the electric scooters that were everywhere). We hung out for a bit in the hammock out front and on the swinging chairs on the porch. The GF said there was a really beautiful outdoor space on the second floor, but I never got to check it out. Location: When booking the hotel, I was initially looking just in the downtown area, but didn't really want to stay in a big chain Hilton-type hotel next to a convention center. This place is about a 10-minute walk, or $5 taxi ride to downtown; but when you are looking at places you would actually want to go - pretty centrally located. It's in a trendy area that reminds me of Brooklyn. Everywhere you would want to go is walkable. Across the street is Veracruz, we had breakfast tacos here every morning (from talking to people in Austin, it seems like this is one of, if not the best, taco spot). A few blocks away is east 6th street which has a ton of cool bars. We learned the Texas two-step at Whitehorse and made our own bar-crawl down the street. Area has tons of cool food trucks and we ate so much good food here. I also recommend going to Barton Springs pool, it's a huge public pool but fed from a natural spring. Very refreshing in the summer heat. Service: Here I was blown away. I travel often for work and have never experienced anything at this level. Staff were so helpful with recommendations and making sure everything was excellent. As I mentioned before, when we landed, we had restaurant recommendations waiting for us (when has that ever happened to you from a hotel!?). The next morning, we mentioned we wanted to go to a country bar that night in passing on our way out for breakfast. Later in the day, the person at the front-desk said she had called around, and recommended a bar that had two-step lessons that night. You can tell that the staff just want you to have a great time in Austin and they really go out of their way to make sure that happens! Also, I had thought I left my iPad in the room after I left Austin and the owner was super responsive and looked everywhere for it, underbeds and couches, even going into the router log and seeing if it was still connected to the internet!! (turns out I left it next-door at the coffee shop) Sorry for the long review but I could not recommend this hotel enough. We loved this hotel! This was our first time trying a "boutique" hotel and it was fantastic. Clean, modern, nicely appointed rooms. The room lay outs are in a way so there is absolutely no noise from neighboring rooms. We stayed 5 nights and slept wonderfully every night. I would recommend staying upstairs, because the downstairs rooms are bound to be louder with guests entering/leaving plus street traffic. I also have to mention the beds...awesome! Super comfy and nicer than many upscale hotels we've stayed in before. The staff and owner are also a pleasure, offering great food and entertainment recommendations and providing a map of the local neighborhood with restaurant, shopping, transit, etc clearly marked. We got engaged in Austin in 2015 at Mount Bonnell and we thought it would be perfect to celebrate our anniversary back in Austin. We were specifically looking for really cool, unique places to stay that were also budget-friendly, and Heywood came up. We couldn't have had more fun, slept better or enjoyed such a lovely night if we tried. The shower and bubble bath was such a treat and that bed! OH MY GOD! It was like sleeping on a cloud in heaven. Had the pleasure of staying at Heywood after SXSW and it was so peaceful and quaint. The staff were friendly and pointed me in the right direction for food and drinks. Loved it. My wife and I stayed here for one night during the F1 weekend. Almost everything was booked, so I figured I'd look "off the grid" at hotels not on the normal booking sites. We lucked out and found a room here. I've stayed at boutique hotels all over the country (and outside of it), and this is a nice little find. The building was very nicely done. I love the modern look and accessories. The staff at check-in and in the morning were very friendly. My only complaint was, as mentioned by other reviewers, being in the room downstairs under the stairs in the morning it was a little loud. However, in a small hotel like this that's not completely unexpected. read more

This is a beautiful, comfortable hotel in the perfect location! I live in Austin (with multiple roommates), so when my mom and her friend came to visit they stayed here and really loved it. The rooms are clean and modern, but still have a cute, cozy feel to them. The patio area is a great place to hang out, drink wine, and feel like you're at home. We loved the decor and the swings on the porch. The Heywood is walking distance from awesome cocktail bars and restaurants/food trucks on the East side of Austin. They use all local products and furnishings, and they will let you know where you can purchase them if you find something you like. The staff went above and beyond to make their stay exceptional--- things like giving great recommendations, having a french press brought to their rooms, and letting them borrow umbrellas on a rare rainy day. It made their trip to Austin feel truly special. I would highly recommend staying here if you come to town! read more

As a True Local Austinite (Born, Raised and Never Moved) the charm of the Heywood is appealing for the location and seeing the interest in East Austin in its full affect. While I do like the charm of the Haywood, it's much like other 'boutique' hotels who offer something different but are the same. For the price, you would expect benefits other then free coffee but alas the snacks are an added charge. There is a perk of having a 'drink on us' at a local bar and the hostess is very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the hand waving brings people in and just like most businesses in the new found East Austin there is definitely the overly capitalistic vibe going on. The bed is good but pillows a little firm for me. The location is good with several restaurants, bars, and coffee shops in walking distance. While I do appreciate the business coming into East Austin I do wonder how The Heywood was flagged for its write-up in the NYT's. read more
