We came on a Collette tour of Italy this was the hotel stop. Central located in Rome close one block from the train station. Well preserved building. I'm used to Marriott comfort but I was completely comfortable here. The staff in the lobby look very busy all the time but when you speak to them they are nice. The breakfast in the morning starts at 6:30 Buffett style. We loved the espresso machine! FYI there is three espresso machines one in each room so no need to wait on the one located in the middle room. Most folks don't realize it. Very old hotel with the same old furnishings of 1930's We stayed at Hotel Mediterraneo Sept 21-23, 2024. The Hotels location is great with there being plenty of nearby restaurants, train station across the street and you can catch the hop on hop off bus a block away. When we checked in we immediately noticed that the furniture is very outdated. Actually the rooms need to be renovated. You can renovate the hotel and still keep the old charm. Our bathroom sink in our room was draining very slowly. So I let the front desk know before we left for the day and I was told it would be fixed immediately. Well when we returned at 5:30pm and went to our room we noticed that the sink still was draining slowly after we brushed our teeth. I went downstairs and notified the front desk and they had us moved to another room. The next day while my friend was taking her shower and I was still lounging in bed I heard a knock at our room door. I slowly got up and before I could ask "who's there" a male person unlocked our room door and proceeded to enter. He was immediately alarmed once he saw me. He looked like a maintenance person. He spoke no English & I don't speak Italian. He showed me a piece of paper which I think was a work order to fix a bathroom sink. I told him in English it's not this room it's room 107. He did say sorry in English. I immediately threw on a robe and went downstairs to the front desk. What a fiasco!! The front desk staff (male) didn't understand that why was the hotel plumber in the wrong room. The male front desk staff became agitated at me. First off why are you upset with me? Your plumber went to the wrong room to fix a drainage problem we reported a day ago. The male front desk staff then had me follow him up to room 107. He unlocked the door went to the bathroom and showed me the sink. I'm now confused because why are you showing me the sink? I'm no longer in room 107. I'm now in another room. I left the room and started walking towards the new room I'm assigned to. The front desk man was now speaking to the hotel cleaning lady that was cleaning. I could observe the cleaning lady explaining in Italian what had happened. As she was outside the room when the hotel plumber came in my room uninvited. Now the front desk man apologizes to me grumbling while he walks away. I did not get his name. But when I checked out of the hotel the next morning he saw me and said good morning. I mumbled good morning back. I understand there's a language barrier but don't assume that the customer is wrong. If you are upset with the plumber do not take out your frustrations with me. Needless to say I will NEVER stay at the Hotel Mediterraneo again. read more

Hotel Mediterraneo - Clogged sink - Hotels Near Me - Rome, RM

The rooms in this hotel are nice and you are nicely situated a close distance to many nearby tourist attractions. The train station Termini is just a couple of blocks over which is good you want to utilize the train station. Otherwise, it does get a little skittish in the immediate train station area. Fortunately, this hotel and others in the area keep a very close watch of their areas and maintain a sense of excellent security. I did not dig into the history of the hotel, but it does seem to have some historical significance. How would I draw this conclusion? Well, the lobby and the adjacent eating areas have beautiful artwork. The lobby has nice carvings, statues, and multi stone laid flooring. The rooms are nice with high ceilings which gives it a sense of being in a larger room. Breakfast is excellent, especially the very creamy scrambled eggs and also the very tasty bacon. The only drawback here is that some of the front desk people have forgotten that they are in the hospitality business. They were not always the friendliest, for example in passing I was hoping to give a good morning, or good evening. Instead, most would not make eye contact, therefore, they did not see the need to say anything although I am within a few feet of them? But there was one woman that was the exception. She was always friendly and helpful. The two men with the beards were always very serious and usually not friendly. As for the older woman at the front, most of the time I could not understand her English. If I attempted to ask a follow up question to make sure we had a meeting of the minds she would literally give me a look of disgust. Look if you could not answer my questions to my satisfaction, me being the paying guest, then you should have handed me off to a colleague that could clarify things. You have forgotten your primary goal to be hospitable to guests. Even if they don't speak your language fluently. I know, then why the excellent rating? Well to be honest, besides these minor complaints, I think it is an excellent place to stay because over all I had a very good time here. Also, there are two other excellent reasons for choosing this hotel. First, being the rooftop bar with an excellent view of the Rome. The view included the Vatican. At the bar, in addition to the view, I enjoyed a charcuterie board that included excellent prosciutto, almonds, aged cheese, and local honey. I enjoyed my charcuterie with some excellent prosecco. Second, addition reason for choosing this hotel is the excellent upscale restaurant Massimo directly across the street (Also, owned by the hotel). The restaurant has excellent service, atmosphere, and food. I ate a salad, calamari, and one of Roma's excellent pastas. Initially upon arrival at the restaurant I was greeted with a complementary glass of excellent prosecco. read more

I do NOT suggest staying here if you are looking for updated accommodations and friendly staff. The rooms are OLD, OLD, OLD. Not sure which rooms are featured on the other reviews but they definitely were not one of the three rooms my group had. Not a great welcoming feeling for people of color. The woman at the front desk was pleasant but she was an exception. Also, no one did anything when I complained that neither the TV or phone worked until we complained again. The lobby and rooftop are charming. Everyone in the bar was amazing and very accommodating. read more

This hotel was absolutely horrible has not been updated since probably the 1960s not clean carpets had black stains. Staff was very condescending and unfriendly and also seem to not necessarily care for people of color. I would not waste my money there. About a two minute walk to the main public transportation hub, and within a radius of 20 minutes (walking) there's the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and the Colosseum. + Beautifully finished lobby with big comfy arm chairs. + Free street maps of Rome available at the front desk. + Free WiFi throughout the entire hotel. + After our overnight flight from NY we arrived at 7:30am. The concierge stored our bags - and after a little back and forth - offered us breakfast in the dining room. Such nice staff! + Breakfast - which is included in your stay - was very good. Plenty of baskets of pastries (croissants were so good!!), meats, cheeses, cereal, ham, hard boiled eggs, juice, espresso, etc. Plenty of tables available each morning and staff constantly removing plates and clearing tables for the next round of guests. + Our room was a great size. We had a queen sized bed, a table with chairs and a long dresser with fridge built in. Bathroom was clean and also offered up plenty of room. + We were located on the 2nd floor - right at the front corner of the hotel - we didn't have any problem w/ noise from the street. - Elevators were a bit slow... but being on the 2nd floor we just took the lovely marble staircase each time. - Rooftop deck is a bit disappointing. View isn't worth the slow elevator ride up. The rest of the hotel more than makes up for the short list of negatives. Glad Hotel Mediterraneo was our first hotel in Italy. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with my stay here while in Rome! The hotel is a little dated, but my stay was still very comfortable. The location is simply unbeatable, you're located within walking distance of the main attractions of Rome and many great restaurants + amenities. Very important especially if you're visiting from out of town and want to explore what the city has to offer! The only complaint I would have is the elevators. They are very slow and can take up a lot of precious time that could easily be used on exploring Rome. I do realize I am being quite picky though. Other than that, the staff were very friendly and professional, the room was clean and spacious, and the washroom was very nice too. Shower power was good and toiletries are provided for your convenience. A mini-fridge bar is also available, and the TV in the room offers many channels from around Europe. The WiFi was also free and worked very well. Air conditioning is also provided, which is much needed during Rome's hot summers. Most importantly, FREE BREAKFAST!!! It's not everywhere that you find this, so take advantage of this feature while you're here. The breakfast was always of high quality and there was lots of variety when I was here. All in all, an excellent stay and I will likely stay here again when in the Rome area again. read more

The Mediterraneo hotel is the most picturesque and stunning hotel I've ever had the misfortune to stay in. It wasn't altogether bad, but I've had much better and would have during my stay in Italy. I'm sure many people reading this will be staying in the Mediterraneo per the itinerary of Globus or Insight or any other tours with Rome on their schedule. So let me take this moment to address you specifically and reveal the facts you'll need to be aware off. Firstly, Mediterraneo is lovingly European, with a shower that spits more than showers, a bidet that barely works, and a corded cream-colored phone with no dial-pad which you'll be, like I was, afraid to pick up. I've read the phones are mandatory to maintain a 4-star status. Okay then. Secondly, you should probably know that Mediterraneo follows a lesser known policy adhered to across the country stipulating that air conditioners are shut off by the end of September. So despite it being 30 degrees (Celsius) at night last October, my room never got colder. I give them credit for being centrally located. Mediterraneo is a only a few minutes' walk from a variety of well known-tourist spots, and only a few seconds from dozens of eateries, most of which I'm sure are better than the one perched atop the Mediterraneo's top floor. Wait, let me go back. Mediterraneo looks fantastic; that needs to be stressed. It has probably the best lobby I've ever seen in a restaurant. You'll want to walk up the nine flights of stairs at least once just to admire the marble steps. You may be forced to at least once since the elevator can fit two people at a time. It boasts an exercise room and, if you happen to be on one of the upper floors like I was, an amazing view of Italy. The top floor is reserved for the posh restaurant while breakfast is served in a banquet room near the lobby on the bottom floor. The complimentary breakfasts were not fantastic, though they were leaps and bounds superior to any of my recent samples of Canadian hotels. However, my biggest criticism is reserved for Mediterraneo's roof restaurant. Despite its spectacular view, I found the cuisine extremely lackluster. Both my mother and I ordered veal. Her's was tough as leather while mine was awash in an embarrassing gravy with badly cooked mushrooms. A lesser minor quibble, and I'm sure an example of my first-world problems, despite the Mediterraneo promising free Wi-Fi, said service ceased functioning after the first day, leaving the remaining three dry of social connections. Even when I mentioned it to reception, they barely seemed to care. This all being said, there's no denying that Mediterraneo is amazing to look at with a fantastic location. The property is quite dated, but I can appreciate the investment made on the roof top lounge and updated guest bathrooms that has made my stay a quality one. Do be patient with the desk clerks - clearly these renovations have taken priority over modernizing their IT infrastructure. Your reservation is documented, hopefully, on a sticky note somewhere on the manager's desk. Free Wi-fi is accessible throughout the property. Password slips are available at the front counter and each are good for 18 hours upon activation. Highly recommend you grab a handful. Otherwise the hotel is just fine - great access to all routes west (20 minutes to the Spanish steps, 30 to Trevi, 40 to the Vatican) and south (Trasvetere and beyond). Taxis are abundant as it's just across from the Stazioni Termini. And dining options are everywhere, both casual and formal. read more

This hotel is clean, has fast free wifi, room is not "quaint" like most hotels in Europe (I've been in at least), air conditioning works great (which is necessary in Rome's 95 degree weather. Staff is friendly and helpful, our refrigerator broke late at night any they immediately replaced it. Would definitely recommend this place to friends and family. read more

I have read a lot of negative comments, and for the most part don't understand them. We stayed here from 10/12 to 10/14. Our room was larger than many hotels we have stayed in, bathroom was clean with all the little amenities, shower was plenty hot. ( who cares if it only has half door) we had a king size bed which was very comfortable. Yes breakfast was different by American standards, but because they cater to many ethnic groups, it was quite satisfactory. And, a buffet can only provide so many options. Desk staff could be a little more friendly and smile more, but they were efficient and answered any questions I had. Some review complained about a phone they didn't use. It's basically a room to room phone, not for outgoing calls. Why complain. Anyway, I would highly recommend this hotel, walking distance to transportation center. read more
