We stayed at the Playa Mazatlán for 3 nights and it is a beautiful hotel. Upon check in, you'll receive a wristband for the resort. The staff seemed nice (we speak Spanish so I am sure that is helpful). This is one of the older hotels in Mazatlán so it does look older, not many outlets in the rooms. It would also be nice to have a mini fridge. We had an ocean view room and there is an option at checkout to add the fridge to your room for I believe $5 a day. Our toilet clogged during our first or second night around 10 pm. We called the front desk and they sent someone over immediately to fix it. Like other reviews mention, you can hear music all night coming from the neighboring Oyster Bar. If that bothers you, I don't recommend booking an ocean view room. The noise was our main gripe with this resort. We did not pay for the all inclusive package as we knew we would be venturing into town to eat but did receive the breakfast package. We had breakfast here once and were not impressed. There is a line to get into the restaurant and the food was nothing special. We didn't do the all inclusive so we had to pay for any drinks we got from the bar. The prices were fair and the mango margarita with chamoy is delicious! Since the hotel is situated on the beach, beach access is a breeze. There are chairs and umbrellas for hotel guests. Some people set out towels to try to save seats but from our experience, there is someone who works at the hotel who tries to seat everyone which is nice! We used the clothing laundry service while we were here and all clothes came back clean and ironed within 24 hours. We did call to confirm that they would be bringing the clothes before we head out for the day and we paid in person when they brought us the clothes. The pools are great! There's a lot of them, the property is quite big. There is a nice heated pool over looking the ocean. There is also a man made cenote that you can swim in. This resort is pretty family friendly so there are a lot of kids but no kids are allowed in the heated pool. The heated pool does get pretty full though since the other pools are pretty cold. I do wish the pools stayed open later. I believe they close at 9pm and there is a security guard who makes sure no one takes a night swim. For transportation, if you'd like to take a pulmonía into town, there is usually a few waiting just outside of the resort. Also when we left, the bellhops helped us call a taxi to the airport. This hotel is well situated and you can walk to the malecón and neighboring shops easily. Some reviews mention not receiving fresh towels or bedding during their stay. We requested fresh laundry on our first day and it was never an issue. You also receive 4 pool towel cards that can be used for the pool or the beach. All in all, our stay at Playa Mazatlán was cozy and beautiful. The main issues are the music all night and the food. read more

Horrible customer service -- every request felt like a problem for them. I asked for an invoice at checkout, and they said they needed Mexican documents just to provide a receipt! Completely unreasonable. The buffet food was terrible -- bland, tasteless, and nothing was good. Even the beer tasted watered down. So this is my first trip to Mazatlan and, as usual, before getting here, I did hours of digging, for hotels, resorts, locations, beaches, restaurants, and more. One thing was certain the hotel had to be smack on the beach, nothing less....and I was going to book a room that had direct ocean views. I settled on Playa Mazatlan Beach Hotel, they say one of the oldest hotels, built over six decades ago and therefore, got the best spot on the beach and believe me my friends.... this is so true. My ocean front room was huge (this was good karma :), with a quadrant spacious balcony, that had commanding and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Everything about the room was clean, crisp the bedsheets, superb daily service at the room and comfortable linen and pillows for a good night sleep. If you book directly with the hotel, you get free breakfast every day. Not a big deal for me (because I'm not used to eating breakfast), but it is nice for me, to have a recovery plan, in the morning (if you know what I mean). That means coffee, orange juice and papaya. The buffet breakfast at The Terraza, that I, or the all inclusives were allowed, is extensive, numerous choices in a huge variety, to satisfy any taste. Needless to say it was impressive. Service was excellent. On top of that, this hotel complex has several pools (not my thing, I'm an ocean person). There are numerous restaurants that are open in a skewed kind of weekly fashion. But hello, where are they? There are no signs and when you ask people some know where it is and some do not. What a shame ...don't you think it would be nice if everything was well described because this is a huge and legendary hotel. There is live entertainment and shows throughout the day, mainly catering for the all-inclusive crowd. Once again, not my kind of thing. I dislike being tied to one location. Prefer being a vagabond, venture out into the new city. Meet the locals, listen to their stories, dine at their restaurants. And let me say one more thing, the Wi-Fi is hit or miss. Location: right by the beach!!! Parking: not sure, as we got dropped off Staff: it's a hit and missed. Some were nice, others were just rude. Wait time: depends on season. For us was average @30 mins to check in. Price: average Drink: good Food: good, we only had breakfast here and it was buffet style. Everything was good including service. We stayed at the Hotel Playa Mazatlan and I hadn't been there in 25 years but when I went last time I enjoyed it. This time was much different. We went with the all inclusive package and we were restricted from having any beverages that were in either a bottle or a can; draft beer and pepsi in a cup, no Coke at all, they had the buffet open at dinner and one restaurant that you had to make reservations at, the Westjet/Nexus person we were told when she would be in and she never was otherwise I would have change hotels. The swim up bar was closed and the water in that pool wasn't heated, other patrons told ua that they received an email notification advising them of this however, we hadn't. The entertainment was a live band, bingo and karaoke. The sports bar wasn't open until 6 PM, even on the weekends. A couple of large buses came in during the day and they were allowed to have cans of Coke, bottles of Corona and Pacifico and were also provided a beautiful Mexican show which was was not put on for anyone else. The food was sub-par and to top it off: the rope that prevents vendors from walking around and harassing people was laying in the sand, security guards didn't care and we were inundated and harassed by vendors. I was extremely disappointed in the entire place; it's a 3 star hotel in my opinion. read more

The room it's clean people that work here are very nice. I made a reservation from a Thursday to a Monday arrive earlier and payed 300 pesos which is not bad for early check in. It would it be nice if the rooms had a small fridge had to buy a cooler to keep fresh the drinks. The beds are very small I've been in many hotel and it's always a queen size bed not a full size the restroom it's very small and the shower door did not closed was damage the hinge. The worst part they had some construction on the building and they were hammering all morning every day. The day of check out I asked if I could check out after time no problem if I had to pay some extra and they denied it. And literally kicked me out my flight was till night. The person in the office just told me, go to the streets and spend some money. Lol. Wow. One more thing. I made my reservation with all inclusive only ate one day at buffet and dinner with reservations food it's not all that. And for beer it's some cheap beer you can only have like Pacifico beer on the restaurants with reservations. The rest of areas like pools and beach the only serve the other cheap beer so basically I had to buy my own beer and had to go eat somewhere else. So if you think all inclusive will save you something think twice. Just get only rooms and save some money. read more

We booked a 6 day stay here and had the best time. Although the weather was unbelievably hot and they were doing construction in the front, staff made sure to help out anyway they could. Our bags were picked up and dropped off near the taxis so we didn't really have to drag them through the construction site. Staff was friendly and attentive for the most part. The shows were entertaining, the pools were not overly crowded. The vendors at the beach were very accommodating when we used their services and left us alone when we said no to items being sold. 12 - 3-6 piece bands play tubas, drums, guitars and various horns on beach and amplify NOISE from 10:30 am - 8:30 pm! I got FOOD POISONING in their fancy Italian restaurant and spend 4 days recovering. Tried to tell the hotel where that I got sick and they speak so little english they thought I wanted another reservation. The Pool/Garden area noise echos and is almost as loud as the beach bands. The buffets are not great. If you must go there, do NOT get all-inclusive. Go to the restaurants very near the hotels. No lack of where to eat good food - outside of the hotel! Hotel is old. There were plenty of palapas, all chairs are hard plastic - nothing comfortable. Beds were okay for comfort. Maids were good! But if you want a relaxing quiet beach vacation, go to the most northern tip of the golden zone. Try to escape the beach bands!!!!! read more

Once I got there, they tried to charge me $400 for all inclusive, then went to $200 at the end they owed me $25. I had to argue with her two weeks later for my money and still makes excuses on why it hasn't been deposited in my account! Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Will never go back! We stayed here for 4 days while on vacation. The rooms need some Tlc. I would say this hotel is more Of a party hotel. Although it's very kid friendly with their Kids Center and multiple kiddie pools and slides. At night you can hear alot of people at the bar and it seems like the noise never stops. Worst hotel I've ever stayed at. I don't understand all the good reviews. We came here on an extended family trip so I guess it was my fault for going in blindly and doing no research at all. But still I don't understand the good reviews on Google. Rooms are nasty, beds are hard, no bedside tables or drawers in the rooms, closet has no door. Pool water is almost black. Don't get me started on the buffet. So disgusting the food looks like they made it with their eyes closed and then they let it sit for a few days. Looks like vomit. Not COVID friendly. That's your 'all inclusive'. They couldn't even get my Sprite right. They brought 7Up that tasted like water with a tiny bit of sugar, no ice. It's ok I didn't want ice in this sauna weather. I woke up with a bunch of bug bites and so did everyone else in my group. This is also a kid friendly hotel so it doesn't help that there are a bunch of annoying little kids running and screaming all day. Moral of the story: don't stay here. Gross. Didnt not stay at the hotel, but took advantage of the day pass they offer for cruise ship passengers. Took a taxi there and went through front desk. Received our armbands and towels. Price was reasonable, Like $13 for kids and $18 for adults. Can pay in local currency or exchanged dollars. Included food voucher which we used at the sit down restaurant overlooking beach. Spent the day on the sand, Chairs and permanent umbrellas available. Beach was clean and relaxing. Dont recall hearing loud music or anything. There are many vendors walking the beach, but none of them were aggressive or pushy. They signal you and ask, but just politely said no. We really enjoyed the food in the restaurant. Ordered all kinds of Mexican offerings. The food vouchers were more than enough to cover everything we wanted and had left over for dessert. The wait staff were excellent. Very polite, helpful and prompt. Engaged us in conversation and really put a cap on our trip. Taxi was right in front as we left, so no wait. I recommend, based on my experience, for fellow cruisers to try this as a day pass trip. read more

This use to be a premium resort used by John Wayne and Frank Sinatra. My first stay was in 1981. Thanks to global warming the once beautiful beach is now non-existent. The city has become very slummy, The sea water high mercury content. The once plentiful and inexpensive Marlin and Sailfish excursions were incredible. Thats all but gone now. The romance and detail no longer exists but if you look around there are several fun and reasonable beach resorts within 120 miles, good luck. read more

We have stayed here off and on for 20 years. The rooms have been clean, the service great and the food excellent. It's very family friendly and we've always enjoyed ourselves. For some reason there are a lot of Mexican families here that don't seem to see anything wrong with their children running amok around this place. They are literally screaming, yelling, and throwing things while their parents watch, not caring. I would NEVER come back here, let alone stay better. Awful. read more

I came on a family trip to this hotel in mazatlan and today was our last day. Im giving the hotel a 2 star because not all personal was rude. There were some that were excelente. The security guards were rude. There wefe personal that was rude to us as well. In my room the toilet stopped working and they had to switch us to a different room and in this room the air conditioner wasn't working. We also had a problem with my sister that she stained her blanket a little bit and they charged us $800 mexican pesos."because they couldn't take out the stain" they didn't even try taking it off they only threw it in the washer. We are sure it does take off because the stain was almost gone. There was a waiter that was also rude when we asked for drinks, but like I said there were a many that were really nice and respectful. Horrible customer service. I came for a nice relaxed vacation with my family from Aguascalientes and decided to stay in this hotel, well do we regret it. We are a family of 15 and we were all suppose to be in rooms in close proximity to each other but ended up in separate areas of the hotel. I have yet to receive my room because it is "not ready" I have been here since 11am, it is now 2:30pm. I AM TIRED. I also payed for an extra bed for a room and it has yet to be delivered. They also offered special reservations for dinner and shows and were told there's a place for everyone staying in the hotel, well, tell me why I waited 2 hours in line to reserve only to tell me there was no more room to sest people. Also, if you come with a big family, an individual for every room must wait in line with you to reserve a spot or else they will not give you a reservation. Rocio Garcia (who was in charge) will not help you nor does she know how to, she is not well suited for the positiom. The ladies for the reservation were rude, Elizabeth Regalado amd Kimberly were their names. Elizabeth raised her voice at us and denied our big family of 15 a reservation for the CHRISTMAS DINNER. Needless to say I will not be back here. They do not know how to accomodate their clientele and that is why this place only gets a one star. This has to be one of the worst places for service. It used to be decent but about 2011 it turned into an all inclusive hotel catering to the lowest common denominator. We only came for dinner and there are much better places for both food, drinks and service. We ordered a la carte but I have a suspicion they filled some of the plates at the all you can eat buffet and charged a la carte pricing. They forgot drinks and dinners, then cleared them away before people were done and made little effort to correct the problem. One of our party ate her dinner well after the rest of us were finished. Unless you already booked in here as a package don't bother going here. Even the roadside stands have better food and service. read more

My family and I visited this hotel last year for a wedding, it was absolutely beautiful! This year my fiancé and I decided that we would like to have our wedding at the hotel given that we already were familiar with the location and previously attend a lovely wedding reception. I would have never imagined that we would be running around in circles for three weeks just trying to get a date for the wedding. We spoke with Lic. Lizeth Lizarrage multiple times through email and over the phone and each time she gave us a date we would call to schedule the rooms and would be told that they had no rooms for the date we requested. The communication was terrible. She didn't communicate with the hotel on what rooms were available, when they were available or how many rooms were available. At one point she completely stopped replying to my emails, but would respond to my mother in law. She was very unwilling to help us and didn't seem to care if we booked at their hotel or not. I defiantly don't recommend this hotel for any type of event. At one point when we tried to schedule everything, we asked for a contract to sign and go over and she stated they don't provide contracts until you paid. This made me very uneasy as I was not willing to hand someone money and not know what I was going to get in return or if I agreed to everything. Very unprofessional. We will be booking our event with another hotel at this point. read more
