Absolutely loved this place. From the outside you might pass this over but don't! The front desk person was very helpful and informative. The rooms are nice and quiet and the view of the river melts the stress away. Less than 5 minute walk to the town center and Winthrop has so much to offer. Rooms were clean and spacious enough. If you're looking for a place that perfectly captures the spirit of the Old West after the gold rush failed and everyone left town, this is it. The parking lot is a rodeo for compact cars only -- if you drive anything bigger than a Mini Cooper, good luck partner. The riverside 'sitting area' is less 'tranquil escape' and more 'Botanical Exhibit: Weeds of the Northwest.' A $20 Home Depot run could have fixed it, but apparently tumbleweed chic was the design choice. The scenic walkway is cleverly positioned right in front of your windows, so the choice is either: (a) enjoy your 'river view' or (b) star in a reality show called People Watching Me in My Pajamas. The walls are so thin you'll know exactly when your neighbor sneezes, flushes, or thinks deep thoughts about life. The western theme? Let's just say it's like someone googled "cowboy wood" and gave up halfway. The mix of cedar, pine, and random lumber scraps feels less John Wayne and more Home Depot clearance bin. And the bathroom? Oh, half of it is in the bedroom. Because nothing says romance like brushing your teeth while your partner is still in bed watching you. Five stars for location. Zero stars for everything else. Update: Check your receipt after staying here. I just noticed we were charged twice for our stay, so I'm having to deal with the credit card company to have one of the charges removed. I'm glad my husband caught it when reviewing our statement, so make sure to check yours too. The room itself was quaint and fit the character of the western town. It was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the view over the creek was beautiful. The only odd design choice was the sink being located in the main part of the room rather than in the separate toilet/shower area, which made brushing teeth and washing up a little awkward. Unfortunately, we were rudely woken up at 9 am by someone aggressively trying to enter our room. I'm fairly certain it was a cleaning person, though check-out wasn't until 11 am, so I have no idea why they'd be trying to clean our room so early. When I looked through the peephole, I saw it was a small man wearing a cap, so I wasn't about to open the door to confront him. He continued trying to open the door for 2-3 minutes before finally giving up. An hour later, when we were ready to depart around 10 am, I went to the office to find out what all the ruckus was all about, but it was locked and completely unattended. We left feeling uneasy, and although the room and setting were nice, the unsettling experience means we probably wouldn't stay here again. read more

But, you're right above the hot tub, people have no courtesy or common sense rather to idk, follow the no smoking signs, or maybe not play music at 930pm when it's quiet out? The view from the balcony was fine but half was block by a tree-oh well still a gorgeous view. Warm and friendly staff. Extremely helpful. The room was very nice, clean and good sized. Overlooked the river with great wildlife pictures if you're a photo person. Easy walking distance to town, with restaurants and shops. I drive a big Ram 2500 pickup and had no problem parking at the hotel. Every room has view of the river and the hotel has access to it. Balcony has incredible views. Location is amazing near the heart of Down town. It looks old, but I think it's the style. Inside everything is on the new side for a small town hotel. Compared to the last place I said that this place is amazing. It's the only hotel I've been at that has a QR code for leaving a tip. 4.5 stars they still have single use plastic shampoo and body wash. No conditioner. And each of these containers are super tiny. Why don't they have multi use systems so people can use and share? Better for the environment better for the pocketbook. Continental breakfast. Encourage you to go see one of the local places for breakfast to support small businesses. I love that. Nothing like leaving your window open and resting to the lull of the river. All rooms have riverside balconies with a wonderful peaceful view. Room was clean and staff was friendly. Right at end of Winthrop's main street so you can take in the shops and eateries without having to drive at all. Will stay here again. read more

My wife and I are both 80. We have stayed here many times. We stayed and had a very bad experience on 8/20. Earlier in the afternoon the people in the room next to us were smoking on the deck. We voiced loudly that the hotel was nonsmoking. They quit. Then at 11 at night a clerk whose English was not a first language was pounding on the door rudely telling us to stop smoking. Clearly the people next door sought to get revenge. We do not smoke. The clerk obviously took there word for it and wasn't interested in what I had to say. He continued to yell. It was terrible. We were asleep. We will stay elsewhere. Their desk clerks have trouble taking reservations and are incompetent. I would be wary of this place. If anything happened they could not be counted on. Many other better places to stay in Winthrop. read more

I thought this place was great. Loved our view, clean, staff was super sweet, and you get a microwave mini fridge and coffee pot! Great location and easy check in and check out. Love this hotel. Is it the fanciest five star hotel...no but has the nicest staff, cleanest rooms, best location and the price is right. They are at the end of town right by the best bakery for breakfast and coffee, The Rocking Horse and you can walk all of town and back to your room. No driving and having to find parking. Right on the river with a balcony off your room to take it all in. I've stayed here twice in a month just because I love Winthrop in the fall. read more

Nice place, stayed a few weeks ago. First, the good stuff: Great back balcony overlooking the river, great river access. Nice zero grav chairs to watch sunset on the river. Spacious, clean room with good sized fridge & freezer. Large counter around sink. Less than a block to the "town". It's quite overpriced (thus only 3 stars) imho but most small hotels in E WA tourist towns are. I expect that will change in other places like Leavenworth now that real competition has arrived. They need some of that in Winthrop. The pricing also made no sense: we stayed 4 nights, different price each night, with Friday being the cheapest. Also, would have been nice to have a clock on the nightstand like all hotels (except this one) have. Another annoying feature is that they charge 8 bucks a day for premium WiFi. A sign of things to come? Parroting Ticketb__tard? The "free" WiFi was adequate for us, but was awkward to sign on to. Don't forget to greet Healy, the friendly local kitty. read more

Definitely one of the nicer hotels that we've been to with balconies and gorgeous view. The room was very clean and somewhat modern as I thought it might be on the seedy side because of the way it looks on the outside. The only thing that happened is that my BF found a big bug in the bathroom which he stomped and the next morning as I sat in the bathroom, a big hairy spider walked right in front my bare feet. Needless to say, I was in no position to grab a shoe and whack it. So I tried to do my business as quickly as possible so then the spider came at me so I jumped up and ran to get a shoe. Luckily it was still there and he got whacked. After that experience, I worried spiders might crawl in the luggage. read more

Nice little hotel, rooms were decent and the front desk girl was very friendly and competent-no beef with her at all, BUT the pillows stunk! There were no others available so I covered it with a towel. As someone who had my own BnB on Maui for 20 years this was unacceptable - it's where you put your head! and if it smells like sweat and drool - UGH! Wash them and buy new ones when necessary. It's the single most important thing yo can do. I did call the front desk about a group of about 10 people below our balcony the first night drinking, yelling, playing loud music - so much for enjoying the evening on our balcony watching the river under the stars. The front desk girl did go down and ask them to quiet down - but of course they didn't, people that inconsiderate don't care. If I were to go back, I'd take my own pillow. read more

Location, location, location. Our stay was two nights in late October. The room was fine, clean with the expected mod cons: through-wall heat/ac, microwave, small reefer, pretty good wifi. Enough pillows for a sorority pillow-fight. The large counter with sink was in our top floor, king room, which we found odd but may be convenient for some. Don't know when built, but the place seems solidly built and quite modern, with a touch of rusticity as a nod to the Winthrop vibe. The room was pretty quiet, though I could hear my neighbors conversing a bit loudly on their balconies ... no doubt due to the background noise of the river. Nice view across the valley from the upper level where we were. There are street, upper, and lower levels which will impact your view and proximity to the river. I chose this place, in part, because Google Street View made it obvious we could walk around town from the "hotel." We enjoyed walking around, over the two foot bridges across the river, up to the Shafer Museum and along the boardwalk shopping area. This may not apply in summer, but be aware that in winter the desk is open 9:00-7:00. And you'll notice some mysterious logic to the arrangement of parking spaces in the lot. The place was not full during our visit, but one pickup took up three spaces and another guest was also unable to park within the lines. It took me three tries to get my minivan within the lines of the Prius-sized spaces. This may happen, in part, because outisde spaces run to within two feet of the road, so those feel awfully vulnerable to the SR20 traffic going by. read more

When I called today to confirm for this weekend they had no record of my reservations and would not honor their word. I will never stay at this hotel again and I urge you to do the same. The likelihood of your reservation being honored is slim at best. Very, very poor customer service. They had a chance to make a right but chose not to. read more

The property is centrally located, so you can park your car and walk through downtown Winthrop...only minutes away from a shops, bakeries, and restaurants. There are a lot of things to recommend this place. The location is perfect -- it's right on the river and the rooms all have a balcony overlooking it. The room was clean, well maintained and laid out very nicely. Overlooking the river gives the perfect opportunity to see local wildlife. We saw lots of deer and eagles. A doe with two fauns spent a lot of time being adorable for our watching pleasure. Later, a buck with an impressive rack had us watching just to see what he would do next. It would have been nice if it were a bit easier to get down to the river. It was 100+ degrees out, and getting down to wade or sit in the river meant climbing down about 6' of big, sun roasted rocks (hot!). Some of the other guests were braver than I was and made it down to the water. It's quite a bit easier to access the river next to the pedestrian bridge a block down the road. We'd stay here again. read more

Went on a last min trip to Winthrop to meet friends who were camping. Our room was on the very bottom floor. Right underneath the main office. We woke up to stomping around and doors slamming above us. A bit inconsiderate knowing guest are still asleep that early. Other than that we enjoyed our stay. Balcony view is beautiful, slept listening to the river. The rooms were so cute, and very clean. We hope to stay here again but we will be booking a top floor next time. read more

This hotel is right on The side of the road in town and is in walking distance of restaurants, shops, and coffee shops. The room was clean and very comfortable with western motif which I loved that it went along with the design of the town. Staff was friendly and the best part of all is that it is right on the river so our view from our awesome upper deck was so beautiful and peaceful. We slept with the sliding glass door open and screen closed to hear the sounds of the river and it was so peaceful. The only bad I can think of is that the walls are very thin. We see Rio Vista in walking distance to everything in town and decide to stay there. Upon hearing the price I was very pleased considering it was only slightly more expensive than alot of the other motels I had looked up in Washington. We get to the room and I was thrilled. Clean spacious room with an outdoor deck overlooking the river. For a room with a view I would of expected it to be far more expensive. Everything you need is in walking distance from the hotel. We enjoyed our stay so much we came back a day later and stayed for 2 nights to explore the north cascades, so this place served as a great home base. This is the hotel I've stayed in the last few years whenever I visit the area. Clean rooms, fantastic view and sound of the river regardless what floor you stay on. Western motif in each room is nice without being overdone. Rooms have a mini fridge. Sink is in the main room which is both good and bad: good is that one person can use the sink while another is in the bathroom. Bad is that your sink is by the bed. The front desk folks never seem very happy though - never understood why. Tip I use with every visit: Check in at 3, park your vehicle, and leave it there. Parking is a major challenge when staying here. You are close enough to walk to everything without issue. read more

Unit 21, the view from this upper level balcony is Outstanding! The sound of the river is simply calming. This is a beautiful setting to relax after a hike in the stupendous North Cascades. Don't stay here. There are other hotels and cabins. We specifically stayed here for their hot tub. It was available when we arrived but we were busy. On Saturday (when it was cold) the kids and I wanted to warm up and walked back to the hotel for a soak and the tub was shut down! We were told it might be fixed by Sunday. We checked in 3 times the rest of the day/night and it never came available! The worst part is the owner didn't care that we had changed hotels, paid more and missed a free breakfast at the other place. No discount or concession was made. We also did not have a tub drain stopper and we had trouble with the tv. Take your business somewhere you're appreciated. read more
