We had no idea what a wonderful place Methow is! We decided to come and explore the North Cascades NP, and discovered the Methow River L&C. The staff were so attentive and kind! They were so knowledgeable about the area and offered many options during our stay! The room was clean and so comfortable and the outside patio area was so pleasant from the sound of the river right outside! We were also greeted by the local deer family that would come and say hello everyday (didn't feed them). The hotel was so centrally located, that we could easily access the national park, Main Street and surrounding stores in just a few! Would recommend this hotel! read more

tl;dr - good rates, lovely river views, friendly staff I was hiking Maple's Pass and wanted a place to stay the night. I found this place after looking around to find something affordably priced for an overnight stay. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised when we arrived and wished that we could stay longer. Check-in was very quick and access to the rooms are very straightforward since they're all in a row with only two floors. They also provide a continental breakfast in the lobby with the typical food available. One cool thing they had during our stay was a hot chocolate station! The room we booked had two queen beds and a rocking chair. Unlike most of the other options we looked at in this price range, their sink was tucked away behind a wall instead exposed and next to the bed. The room was clean and spacious with a balcony overlooking the river. We saw families of deer roaming by throughout the night and enjoyed the views of the river in the morning. read more

I love this lodge and cabins because in a way, it's hidden away from town. I am one of those people that dislike to step outside right in front of traffic. I notice the other hotels and resort are located in Winthrop the downtown area, which basically have the entrance hotel room doors shown to the public. This cabin and lodge are tucked away from the busy downtown area and the cool thing is you can just walk to the downtown area by crossing the bridge on foot. Heyyyyyyyy! My husband, our daughter, and I did that in order to get our walks in. The walking distance isn't that bad since Winthrop is so small with cute local business shops. Let's talk about the room and the amenities: clean room. Just as advertised. We got what we wanted: king suite with sofa bed and river view. Tv works. Coffee, small fridge, and microwave work. Also, the key works for the door, so that was nice. When you know you'd be arriving late at the property after 6 pm, it's best to contact the hotel before 4 pm to catch up with the receptionist and inform them that you'd be arriving later after normal business hours, so an access key code would be texted to you. Continental breakfast is available in the morning if you're in the mood for typical muffins or breakfast bars. Coffee is available in the hotel room, and you have to get your tea in the lobby during breakfast hours. We would come back here in the future! read more

It is interesting the the Winthrop Inn is not listed. It, too, is managed (owned?) by Franks Hotels. They have an interesting arrangement with Booking.com and I write here to warn any thinking of doing business with them that (1) if everything goes smooth reservation-wise, and the stories about bed bugs and flies on old food are untrue, you may have no issues, but (2) if there is an issue with reservations and you have to cancel, your money is probably lost. We just last month had the experience of booking with the Winthrop Inn through Booking.com, then due to a medical emergency had to cancel. My wife cancelled in plenty of time to get a full refund according to the agreement with Booking.com and got an email back from them to that effect. But then she could not get the hotel to refund the money... Through a convoluted series of moves by both Bookings.com and Franks Hotels it became impossible to hold them to that agreement. And it felt like they are very familiar with how it all went, with all the smooth moves of used car salesmen. This is just a warning: be careful. We certainly would not do any kind of business with anyone associated with Franks Hotels, nor would we ever use Booking.com again. read more

Two days later they have sent me a cancellation but are saying they will not provide a refund! So now they have cancelled the room and not provided a refund. They have had no one available for three days to actually address the issue and their workers do not seem to actually know what their cancellation policy is. Such a strange experience. So I am in my mid-60's and have traveled much in N. America as well as have managed maintenance & housekeeping at a resort along the Oregon coast. Our stay at Methow River Lodge & Cabins was excellent. The room was very clean and in excellent repair. Excellent bed & pillows, towels and the room had both a table, loveseat and table w/chairs on the private balcony. The shower gave plentiful water. The cost was very reasonable and was more spacious than a standard motel room. We had a sink that plugged and it was handled immediately by staff (or co-owner?) We stayed 6 nights and enjoyed the area greatly- in part to our accommodations. Were I to make one suggestion, it would be a vertical handicap bar at the end of the shower/tub. At my age I had to hop out and catch myself with the wall. I didn't mind, but it would have been nice to have something to hold on to as I navigated the high tub. Nonetheless, highly recommended. read more

Had a family emergency and asked to push the booking forward 5 days. They refused. Not going here again and will pass this info on to our friends. I stayed at the Methow River Lodge in Winthrop, WA over Labor Day weekend with my wife and two small children. A group of ~10 people were playing loud music, smoking, and drinking within 5-10 feet of our room. I called management around 10:15pm to request that they break up the party. I never heard back from management and the party went on until 12:30am. I tried calling management back at 11pm and several times after that to check on their attempt, but the calls went straight to voicemail and I never heard from them again. It was very clear that they did not believe providing reasonable service to their properly behaving guests was a priority and that getting their sleep was more important than the quality of their guests' stay. I do not recommend staying here because management does not care about you whatsoever as long as they get their money. It's not worth the risk of something going wrong and not having their support to fix it. You are better off staying somewhere where management cares about their customers' satisfaction. read more

Convenience and amazing service. Perfect location for the Hockey Rink which is why our team stayed there...walk straight over and never use your car in Winthrop for the weekend! Dylan at the front desk was very helpful with a messed upcancellation/refund situation through a third party ap. He was very calm, collected, and went through mutliple areas trying to help resolve the situation which he did. He then went out of his way to help our team find accommodations for a team event and even volunteered some of his own time to help us out. Clean and comfortable but most important for our stay was the location. The property is right next to the Winthrop outdoor ice rink. We attend the Apple Puck and being able to walk a short distance to the rink is a blessing. Love the hot breakfast and visits from the local deer too. Friendly staff with helpful suggestions was a plus too. Draw backs- stay away from room #4 as it's loud being next to the stairs. Pop machine was out of many of the choices water and sparkling tea, someone forgot to buy the oil for the lobby popcorn machine so we were disappointed as we'd been waiting all day for the popcorn that never happened at 6pm. read more

The proximity of this hotel to the river and downtown is fantastic. Close to the foot bridge to walk into downtown, right on the river for easy access. The rooms were clean and cozy. I am leaving a review of two stars however because I found the hotel staff to be unhelpful and borderline rude. The office supposedly opens at 10 but it is locked and no one is around, then when someone does come in, Shelley acted like she is being bothered by your presence. The check in time of 4 pm is so late for a hotel. It makes coming for a weekend really challenging when you can't check into a room until 4 to drop your belongings. The cleaners also don't wear masks, which frankly when they are cleaning your hotel room, they should be wearing masks for the customers safety. Overall, not impressed by the people running this hotel and we will not be staying here again. read more

My family have been loyal customers of Methow River Lodge & Cabins for years -- we love the proximity to the ski trails and downtown Winthrop -- but we won't be coming back. The last time we visited, the front desk staff were incompetent and didn't wear masks despite the ongoing pandemic and state mask mandates for the service industry. The manager was condescending and inflexible when there was a mix-up with our reservation and we ended up with lodging for only one night instead of the week that we normally book. We had to scramble to find lodging elsewhere, and while we were strategizing to avoid simply driving back to Seattle, the staff treated us like an inconvenience and were inflexible and rude. We have been coming to this place for years, and it's not cheap, but it's clear that customer loyalty isn't important to the management here. And here's the kicker: When we were finally able to find another place to stay but needed a late checkout to facilitate the transition, the manager claimed that "11:30am" constituted a late checkout, when the typical checkout is at 11am. I think that kind of says it all. We used to love going here, but we don't go on vacation to get more stressed-out, and the silver lining was that at every other place I called in an effort to find somewhere else to stay, the staff were kind and helpful. A shout-out to the excellent customer service at the Ranch House, Mazama Country Inn, and Sun Mountain Lodge - if you like being treated with basic decency, go to any of those places instead of this one. read more

Motorcyclists : they have blocks of plywood for your kick stand waiting for you. Baskets with glass cleaner and towels for your wind screen! It's on the river right out of town. I am sad we did not get to experience this place. Due to COVID, we decided to cancel our trip. The reason I felt like I should write a review is because when I called to cancel the first time, the phone was answered but I was told they do not open until 10:00 and the person who answered was driving. It was 9:45. The person who answered seemed annoyed that I called. According to yelp, they open at 7:00. Also, why is the main number a cell phone number? We may try to go back in the future. However, I did not appreciate the rude customer service and being made to feel like an idiot. I would have been happy to leave a voice message or to call back later. When I called again, the person who answered was a lot more pleasant. Maybe don't answer the phone before you open or have a separate number that is not a cell phone. read more

Hotel is right next to the ice rink - perfect location! Many Bald eagles were feasting on salmon and flying over the walking bridge. Hotel is walking distance (for some) to downtown restaurants and shops. Breakfast included with price was eggscelent and included freshly cooked scrambled eggs, thick bacon, and fluffy pancakes. Also included oatmeal, cold cereal, yogurt, bananas, oranges, juice, team, and coffee. Hotel seemed recently updated and room was clean and comfortable. Service was friendly. Terrible awful night of almost no sleep. The supposed Queen beds are full size at best and as another reviewer mentioned - they give almost no support in the middle of the bed. I'm 6'2"/200# and my legs were hanging off the end of the bed. My wife is 5'5"/130# and the two of us didn't fit in the one bed together. Worse, even when I moved to the second bed, I still got a terrible night of sleep and a sore back because the middle of the bed gives in as though there is no support at all. The woman at the front desk wasn't friendly at all, neither when we checked in nor when we checked out. Side note - pay attention to their cancellation and deposit rules when booking - Full 7 days required or they charge you the full reservation amount (30 days! for a cabin cancellation). This is a great spot for couples and families. They were incredibly friendly at check in and super helpful. While sipping coffee on the porch, were greeted in the morning by a doe and her two fawns followed by a turkey. You can't make this stuff up! The room was clean and well stocked. Got a cabin. Perfect. Full kitchen. Upstairs with two twin beds and a bathroom. And a balcony overlooking the river. You could probably sleep there -- I'd have tried it if I thought of it in time. Downstairs is another bedroom and another bathroom. It's all nicely furnished in good quality. But what you really come here for is the view and location. The back porch is steps away from the river. Beautiful, tranquil, cool. There were a couple rocking chairs and recliners there. No reason to go anywhere else. The location is close to the bridge across the river and right into town. Horrible experience from Start to finish. 1. The last place available in Winthorp when I booked - There is a reason. 2. Unbelievably over priced - almost to the point of robbery. 3. They over charged me - I booked through Expedia and was double charged by the people at this hotel. I tried to get in contact with the manager and continuously tried to call and left messages - never to speak to anyone. They reversed the charge, but not to the correct amount. 4. Finally on the day that we are going to ride down - I get incredibly Ill from food poisoning and we are not able to make the trip. "7 Day Cancellation Policy." The people of the Methow River Lodge are crooks. The most horrific experience I have ever had in regards to a hotel. Please do not stay here or support these terrible human beings. A delightful place to stay. The owner, Dolly, was very friendly and welcoming. The room in the main building faces the river. Even on a busy Friday night, the highway traffic was not intrusive. A half mile walk via a pedestrian bridge across the river (not to be missed) gets you to the shops and restaurants of Winthrop. The room itself was very clean, charming (lots of knotty pine), and well furnished, including a fridge and microwave. Wifi worked well. read more

First impression on seeing the place: rustic. The exterior of the lodge and cabins is stained wood, and the interior of our room in the lodge continued that trend. Hard-wood floor, wooden bed frame, wooden rocking chair, etc. All this wood looked rather clean and polished as well, but some of that could be from the fact that the lodge is practically brand new -- the rooms on the other half of the lodge are still under construction. Beds were comfortable, and the rocking chair in the room especially so. The outdoor patio was a nice touch too, though we didn't take advantage of it much due to the bugs flying around. The bathroom is a bit on the small side, and I didn't care too much for the combined shower gel / shampoo dispenser in the tub area, but it was functional enough. There is wireless internet available, though over a 2 night stay I noticed that there were occasional outages such that the access points disappeared. Not too big of a deal since this was just a place to sleep after a day of exploring North Cascades NP, but could be an issue for someone who wants to get actual work done. Bandwidth-wise, I didn't get a chance to really test it, but I remember seeing speeds of roughly 100-150KB/s from some FTP transfers. The proprietors of this lodge are very friendly and helpful. Their dinner recommendations roughly mirrored what we could find on Yelp, including their mention of staying away from a place that has ~2 stars, and they were more than glad to help one of my friends figure out fishing spots nearby. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm wandering the North Cascades. read more

I recently booked a room at the Methow River Lodge for a one night stay two weeks out. The following day I learned I would be attending a funeral during that time and was forced to cancel my reservation made less than 24 hours beforehand. When I called about the cancellation, the employee (something to the effect of "Jay") was not only rude from the time she answered the phone, she refused a refund. I would gladly have settled for a credit, but wasn't offered that either. I can't comment on the cabins or grounds because I haven't stayed there, but if you're looking for customer service or a cancellation policy under 30 days, I'd try one of the multiple other places in town to stay. Not only will I tell everyone I know to avoid this place, I'll mention them in my future posts of where not to go. read more

The only thing you can be guaranteed to receive is a dirty cabin and no customer service. We arrived early and asked if any early check in was available, or at a minimum an estimated timeline. After terrible customer service and no return phone calls, we finally were informed we could get in 30 minutes before 4pm, the normal check-in time. Upon waiting, our cabin was the last one to be cleaned for the day, even though only one other cabin had someone else waiting to check-in as well. We ended up not even being able to get into our cabin until AFTER 4pm, which is the posted check-in time. Upon entering the cabin, it was minimally cleaned, dirty dishes were piled in the dish washer which was not ran. There were hand prints all over the windows, no additional trash bags were left, only 4 towels left for use even though we paid for a 7 occupancy. The Keurig didn't work and don't bother calling the office they do not answer nor do they respond to voice messages left by guests. We will not be returning. read more

In brief: we didn't stay here because Rich is a stand-up guy. I called MRL&C to reserve a room on a crowded weekend. They had one cancellation for Room #17. For no special reason, I've always thought of 17 as kind of my lucky number... since well before August 17th became our anniversary date. Rich was happy to accommodate us -- and, of course, to fill another room -- but when I mentioned we'd be making a day of it on motorcycles, he quickly mentioned that the North Cascades Highway was still closed due to mudslides. D'oh! I had known that earlier, but assumed (without checking) that the problem had been cleaned up. Because of that timing, we probably won't make it out there this summer, but we will make it on another, better-planned outing. And when we do, we will absolutely stay at the MRL&C. The sad thing about this, is the cabin was great! I am not a "camper", so I was happy that the cabin we stayed in was newer, with all of the amenities of home. The bad thing...the owners. They are rude, and not accommodating at all. They were argumentative and combative. I have never stayed anywhere that treated us so poorly. This sentiment was echoed by a number of the other guest we spoke to that weekend. I have read some of the other testimonies, and they are either family members that were asked to write a glowing review of them, or these folks were having an extremely bad weekend when we were there. :-( read more

This was a really nice place. Very casual and Country looking and the bed was super comfortable! Loved the deck overlooking the river. The breakfast in the morning was fresh even though it was just pancakes eggs and bacon it was very tasty Terry they did have options for yogurt and other things in the refrigerator. the only negative I can say was that nobody says anything about Highway 20 being right across the river so it wasn't as quiet as they advertised it but other than that it was awesome and if we ever come back we would stay here again. read more

Have you ever stayed someplace where you felt like you were a personal guest? I am not talking about a place that has a really good corporate training program and every one is following it to the letter. I am talking about a place where you feel like you have been invited into someones home and they are doing everything to make you feel welcome because it's their home and they want to share it with you. I will give you an example. My family decided kind of last minute to take me to Winthrop for the weekend. Sadly all the cabins were booked, however they were able to accommodate us in a suite in there new hotel lodging. Since the cabins all have DVD players we just assumed that the new rooms would as well; and brought some movies with us to watch later on in the evening. Well it turns out they did not. So I asked Dolly ( the owner) about it and she said she would see what she could do. Less then an half hour later Rich knocked on our door with a DVD player. Oh did I mention it was there personal player? I can not really express how nice it is to set out on the deck with the Methow river just a couple of hundred or less ( depending on flow :) ) away. The cabins are very nice and fully equipped. The new hotel is equally as nice with very private decks on the upper levels. They are always kept VERY clean. Enough of this gushing just make stay here already! read more

Highly recommend! We're staying in the lodge and it's only 3-years old so the rooms are spotless, spacious, and well decorated. We made a last-minute trip to Winthrop and the more expensive hotel we wanted was full. But for about 1/3 the price we are over the moon with this place and will stay here again! Our room overlooks the river from our very private balcony. It's a 4-minute walk to a new bridge that connects us to the downtown. The owners were very friendly at check-in and made sure we knew our way around. Great service! read more

We really enjoyed our stay at the Methow River Cabins. We stayed in Cabin #1- which meant we had a bedroom for our daughters and we stayed in the loft. The location- GREAT! Right on the cross country ski trail, close to town and next door to an outdoor ice skating rink. There is also a great little cafe across the street called the Hub (get the French Toast!). The cabins are on the river, so you get to watch the water flow by and we saw deer out back several times. The cabins- Also GREAT! Very nicely furnished and stocked. Full kitchen and thoughtfully stocked with the basics, so you can buy the main ingredients without needing to bring the salt & pepper (for example). There was a TV (we didn't use), iPod hookup, comfortable living room furniture and a small selection of games/puzzles. Our unit also had a washer/dryer- which was very handy when the girls spilled juice and we had to mop it up and could just wash the towels. My only very minor complaint is the sheets on the bed were a little scratchy, more like a guest bedroom than hotel sheets. But I might be spoiled by the winter time flannels at home! The town: both Wintrop and Twisp are just minutes away- there are several good restaurants, grocery stores, and little shops. The owners were very nice- checked in on us immediately and offered to help organize activities (not needed this time, but maybe snow mobiling next time!). Highly recommend and we'll be back! read more

Outstanding all around. We (2 people) stayed for two nights in the lodge and couldn't have been happier with our experience. Room was clean, the building well built with solid construction material, and the aesthetic design was a good fit for the area. Methow valley is an active person's paradise year-round, and this place is perfectly located in the heart of it all; we stayed in winter, and could walk to an ice rink, cross country ski and fat bike trails, and even into town. The owners are really great people. AFTER we had booked, Dolly called us back to inform us that we would actually be getting a discounted rate. Rich and Jen took us on a snowmobile tour that seemed less like a tour company tour and more like family friends spending the day with us. Such a great experience. 10/10 will come back again read more
