First time here & worst experience ever, the manager was really rude and disrespectful he called me dumb and told me to shut up.

First time here & worst experience ever, the manager was really rude and disrespectful he called me dumb and told me to shut up. We upgraded our room and since my partner couldn't sign the same signature as the ID he was upset made my partner sign over 6 times after we said my partner had a disability. He needs to be retrained or be fired. I will not return here again I hope they retrain there staff to better costumer service

Pros: friendly staff, clean rooms, strong AC, fridge always stocked with beer, water, Pepsi, 7 up, Jose Cuervo, and some bottom shelf whisky and vodka. At the open bars they do have higher quality alcohol upon request such as Buchanan's and Don Julio. They have nice loungers on the beach and great place to take cute vacation photos. Cons:THE FOOD HERE SUCKS!!!!!! I swear I got sick after each meal and snack, I would have to rush to the bathroom. They offer snacks 24/7 in the sports bar but I'm warning you do not eat it! The food for breakfast lunch and dinner at the regular restaurant taste bland and is obviously made in bulk. Unfortunately we didn't get to try the other restaurants because reservations filled by 8/9 am. The pool area could also be cleaner or have more shade area. WARNING! They have a club in the hotel but do not go!!! Walked in and it smelled like puke, piss, and cheese (and tons of regret). The elevators are slow and not enough for all the guest, they need to build more, also add AC in the lobby. This hotel is generally great but they can fix a lot about them.

Let's start with the good: Rooms were clean, beds comfortable. Friendly staff. Asian Buffet 'Bamboo' was excellent! A few pools so you could usually find one that suits you. Ones for the kids, swim up bar for the party animals, ones for older adults too who just want to relax! Good location on the beach with vendors just on the other side of the rope. Close enough if you want some souvenirs, far enough away if you don't! They were very friendly and not being too pushy at all which was appreciated. Lots of spots further down the beach too farther way from the action if you wanted quiet. There were really attentive lifeguards on duty keeping everyone safe in the ocean too as waves there can get pretty big. Amazing view from our double balcony on 6th floor! Some of the most beautiful sunsets we've ever seen in Mexico! Good snack shack by the pools for in between main mealtimes with burgers, hot dogs and nachos. Great for little ones or big ones who have the munchies! The not so good: Typical over crowded buffets and hit and miss nights with what's being served up. We ripped into town a couple nights to 'Topolos' for delicious pork shank and seafood enchiladas. Definitely worth the pamonilla ride in. That in of itself at night is a blast! Seems like the city really comes alive at night! Those open air taxis blasting their tunes is a blast! Great way to break up the sameness of resort, buffet etc. We didn't have hot water in our room(old side)of resort for first couple nights so had to move which was a pain as it took all day to get into our new room. Resort Bartenders were friendly and tried their best to make drinks we like from home. Bottled Diet pop for mixed drinks though was a big challenge for them to track down. Fountain "diet"was straight syrup though and wrecked the drinks. If you take your drinks straight up though or just like beer luck! Good selection of brands. No coffee makers in the rooms nor any room service!?? We had a long haul down to where they had coffee set up. We often bring our single serve keurig when we know there isn't one. Assumed a high end resort chain like Riu would either have a coffee maker or offer room service! No laundry service. I saw on their info provided they used to offer that. Hopefully it's just a temporary change due to lack of staff due to Covid? We were there 2 weeks and would have appreciated that service! Overall though we had a great time in Mazatlan! Next time will probably try renting our own condo though as we're getting tired of all-ins and Riu wasn't high enough caliber to warrant going back for us. Good affordable family place though if travelling with kids.

At check in I found out that the room I reserved was not in ocean view room. I was told that it is a bigger, more upgraded room that I currently had reserved. But the room faces the garden, none of them faced the beach. So I asked to be shown both rooms, which they did. Upon initial look at the beach front room it looked fine. I opted to go with the beach front room that was smaller. I was traveling alone, so I didn't need two beds. The comforter was dusty and a did not look or smell clean. The sheets seemed fine, but I brought my own sheet with me to avoid having to lay one the resort's sheets. I didn't want to take any chances amidst the Coronavirus. The pillow cases on the other hand were not clean, I did notice stains on all 3 pillowcases. So I used the sheet I brought with me to cover the pillows.   I then showered, which was a pain. The shower is very slippery, I fell in the shower several times. Thank God I did not actually hurt myself, since I was staying alone. That could have been very dangerous. Dinner that night was very lackluster, I chalked it up to the fact that I had arrived on a Sunday. So I assumed that breakfast, lunch and dinner the following days would be better. I was wrong. Not sure the reason, but it is completely unacceptable to have that low number of choices as well as poor quality food options that I experienced. If I could compare it to anything it would be a Motel 6 version of an all inclusive resort on the beach.  Even the restaurants where you need reservations (There are only 2 open right now), had lack luster poorly cooked/seasoned/prepared food. No customizations what so ever and a lot of "serve your self/buffet options".   Now customer service wise, that's a different story. Everyone was really nice. Even though there were several things I requested be sent to my room over the course of my stay and none of them were delivered. I assumed that they are understaffed, due to covid.   The worst meal I had was the night of my actual birthday, which was the whole reason I came to celebrate. I went to the Mexican restaurant, where I had a reservation. Got there at 9, was sat at 9:10. Got water by 9:20, ordered by 9:40, & got my food by 10. Once my order was finally taken, I ordered the filet. My food came out with the large parties food. The steak that came out was not filet at all. It was also super thin, grey and over cooked. I don't ever bother to mention these things to the serving staff only due to the language barrier. Sometimes it is rather hard to communicate, even with Google Translate. So I just decided to go eat dinner somewhere else. Once coming back from lunch one day during my stay, there was brown water coming out of all of the pipes in the bathroom. The instructions given upon check in are completely writren in Spanish, hence why they are only usable by people who speak Spanish. No 1 ever responded to my request on the resort app. I used bottled water to brush my teeth and decided to head to the pool. I stopped at the front desk to let them know about the brown water. They let me know that they were aware of the issue and it should be fixed shortly. They let me know if I got back to my room and it was still an issue to come back down. After 4 trips to the front desk and 8 hours, it was fixed. I am told by the man at the front desk their maintenance has already gone up to my room and fixed the issue. I did not authorize anyone to go into my room without me. I travel alone, this is for safety reasons. This is my preference and as a guess it should be. I'm sure he thought that he was doing me a favor. But if a guest requests something their requests should be respected or it should be told it to the guest at the time of the request that their request can not be accomplished.  So overall I don't know how I feel about RUI resorts anymore. I thought that they were very modern and very luxurious, but I did not see anything that I would describe as luxury at this hotel. Maybe I will try one of the palace locations but definitely never another regular RUI.  I travel a lot and this was definitely one of the lower quality hotels that I have ever stayed at. Especially for the price of that they are charging.  I forgot to mention that the downgrade on my hotel room apparently does not come with a refund for the difference in the rooms. This is the 1st time I have every experience that, and I think it is stupid that they will allow you to stay in a cheaper room and not give you the difference of your money back for that cheaper rome. I think is just a very horrible way to get over on your guests. Also lastly I think that it is not a good look to have cheap light colored hotel towels. They look dirty when they are in the rooms and they are not bright and white. The common areas were constantly cleaned. The silverware and the bathroom in my room, not so much. Pick a better all inclusive resort or just stay at a regular hotel, it's not worth staying here.

I recommend this resort! The hotel staff are super friendly. And the beach is spectacular. All the hotel rooms here are facing the ocean. The food here is delicious. They have also self-serve ice cream machines all around the resort which is awesome! Also there's no mosquito here !!

Great stay here at the hotel Riu. The hotel staff are incredible and the facilities are great. However the elevators are a little slow and with one elevator being down it made it hard to get up and down. The rooms are decent and clean and every thing is quick to be cleaned and maintained. The gym is nice but lacking in equipment and a few machines are broken too. But overall a good experience, great staff and food is decent. Highly recommend this spot! Nice area with a great beach.

This is a pretty great resort. It's missing a few things but it was a wonderful vacation nonetheless. For a five star, we would have liked actual a la cartes. There is a big buffet and then there are a few other restaurants that were also buffet style. We tried going to the Italian restaurant for dinner but it was closed. The food is decent though. I LOVE the breakfast here. Coffee is awful. There was minimal service outside of the bars. There is no drink service at your seats whether you are on the beach, by the pool, or in the lobby bar. The theatre was the only spot where I saw waitresses. If a lively nightlife is your idea of fun, this resort may not be for you. It was very quiet and the disco is quite sad. Everyone was pretty much in bed after the theatre show. The sunsets are wonderful and the city of Mazatlan is really fun to explore. I highly suggest heading into the city and checking it out. Good food, lots to see. I would recommend this spot to my friends and family for sure!

The hotel is indeed a nice hotel, albeit a bit older. We parked along the street, and walked in. Check in did not take long, we got our key and walked up to our room. The lock gave us some trouble, as it was older, but we were able to get it open. The room itself was decent, and it had a spacious balcony. We were hungry, and we decided to order some room service. The food from room service was pretty good, from which I ordered a breakfast dish of eggs, chilaquiles, beans, coffee, and lemonade. This place had a spacious bathroom and shower, which was great considering how hot and humid it was outdoors. So where this place went wrong was our last night here. We came back to the hotel relatively early. Since I was not sleepy, I stayed up to work on my laptop while my girlfriend slept. Around 3AM, I head someone trying to open the door. I stood maybe 5 feet from the door, and an older man wearing an employee shirt but no nametag was at the door. He was more startled than I was. I asked him what he wanted, to which he responded that he was checking to see if the room was empty. I was not buying it, but I decided not to wake up and freak out my girlfriend. The following morning, we complained about this to the front desk. They claimed to go over the camaras and not see anyone outside our room at that time. Right away, I knew this was an attempted inside robbery, and we decided to check out that very morning. Unfortunately, the people at booking.com were not able to get us a refund, but we were not going to stay in a place that has people trying to rob us then cover it up. The property is nice, but I can never forgive them for this. I don't recommend staying here. But if you come here nonetheless, I would not bring many valuables and lock up the ones you do in your luggage while you're out or sleeping.

We planned a last minute trip and all the resorts were sold out. Luckily after hunting online for boutique hotels, I came across this gem. Yes, everything does happen for a reason. This place is phenomenal. Everything from the check-in, service, food, rooms, view, rooftop pool and drinks were spot on. A family owned boutique hotel, Casa Lucila offers a small intimate vibe where you can zone out, relax and not have to deal with the tourist nonsense that you might experience in the Golden Zone. We took advantage of the rooftop small infinity pool on a daily basis and ordered lunch poolside everyday during our stay. The hotel is small, that most of the time you'll feel like you're the only guest staying there - which may seem weird at first, but honestly - it makes you forget about all your worries and helps you relax while your vacationing. I could write a novel about how awesome this place is, but the pictures and reviews speak for themselves. If you can fork up $200+ a night, it's beyond WORTH IT. And, I'd highly suggest drinking and eating here - the food at this place is 10x better than what you might find at local vendors or restaurants. Thank you Casa Lucila for a memorable trip to Mazatlan. Can't wait to refer EVERYONE to your hotel, and I can't WAIT to come back. =)

They go above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of. Location: very centric and everything is within 5-10 drive Pools: Both pools are big and they have enough lounge chairs around. The pool staff were also fantastic. Plenty of Palapas at the beach for everyone The buffet at Las Palomas never disappointed. Kuddos to Gonzalo and Freddi. Great service. Angelo's restaurant- delicious and good wine selection. Kuddos to our server Alejandro Ibarra. He was great. Casa 46- delicious upscale food with beautiful views of the centro histórico The BAD: The common areas needed more up keeping. one of the nights there was so much trash around the pools (Shame on guests for leaving so much trash out) but that clearly shows you that they are understaff if they cannot keep with picking up leftovers cups and cans. The food at Cilantro's restaurant was mediocre. The service at the bar was great but not at the dining area; took too long when there were hardly any people. No transportation to the sister hotel Emerald Bay. They gave us some BS about being out of contract with their transportation company; however, if you signed up for the time-share breakfast then they would provide you transportation. Alcoholic beverages: ALL the alcohol is clearly watered-down. You could never taste the alcohol and I never got a buzz after several drinks (I would even ask for doubles) The only time I had good drinks was at their sister location, Emerald Bay; I am assuming they don't use watered down alcohol at this location because this is were they host their 'time-share' meetings and they need to impress the guests. They require you to sign a contract before check-in that prohibits hiring La Banda on the beach, even though Neto Coppel posted multiple videos on TikTok saying he would allow bands to play there (because the beaches are public!). It's frustrating because the contract states that if you're caught, they can remove you from the premises

Just seems like they're trying to take advantage of forgetful guest, and nickel and dime you at every chance. Everywhere things were subpar for even the basics, even the pool towels were torn and faded. The soap in our room was still on the sink from the previous guest and had a red hair the staff was okay and customer service minimal. It sucks because we LOVED the Inn at Mazatlan (the first hotel) and after having that amazing experience to compare to, we decided we don't want to come back here and won't recommend it to our friends. So the room was TINY. Crazy tiny. We paid $114 for an 850sq ft room a night at the Inn at Mazatlan and $95 a night here for probably a 300sq ft room. The front desk said a room on the first floor was better because it's easy access to the pool, but... yeah... That ended up being the main problem. I wish we stayed in a higher up room. Another weird thing is our room key stopped working three times. After our long trek back to our room, we'd be disappointed that the keys didn't work. Can we talk about how humid the rooms are, too?! Nothing dried and everything smelled when we came in because we couldn't leave a single window open because - AGAIN - we were on the first floor. The bathroom shower curtain didn't dry at all. The bed was big and comfy, but it felt itchy like they needed to wash it. We had to request they change our sheets... yeah it was that bad. the pillows also smelled like mold or a wet rag that HASNT DRIED. The hotel was also super weirdly designed. It was a trek to get to our room. One night I walked all over the third floor looking for the ice machine and finally after 20mins I found it and it was broken. That also reminds me- the room does not have a fridge, but on the plus side- it does have an iron and a safe. The beach is really nice and calm on this side of town. We liked the beach a lot, actually. the pool area was beautiful with lots of seating, too. K, the RESTAURANT--- really bad slow ass service. The waiters are all sleeping and probably all in high school so they just don't give a shit. They also messed up our room service order really bad and made two wrong dishes... we were too exhausted to care and left it. The drinks are good and the morning breakfast buffet seems to be a hit. It's cheaper for alcohol than it is for pineapple juice tho... They also don't speak English so be prepared for that. PIGEONS ON EVERY TABLE. They need to hire one of those dudes who holds a falcon and releases it time to time or something to take care of those gross ass pigeons eating off the tables like rats. That really grossed me out. The pool is full of kids screaming and playing. That's cool tho, it's a fam place. But AGAIN, OUR ROOM FACED THE POOL SOO... You feel me. We didn't end up going to joe's oyster bar, but at 3am I can hear the bass bumpin. Apparently it's the "hottest" nightclub in Mazatlan and it's attached to the ramada. I got a service at the spa...it was really difficult because I couldn't communicate well with the masseuse bc she only spoke Spanish and my Spanish isn't super fluent. Also, she did a pretty bad job for what I was hoping for. They had free wifi, I didn't use it bc I have international service, but I heard it was ok, so that's a plus. There aren't many cute walking places either, so you'll def need a taxi.

Most disgusting hotel ever!!! If I could give it negative stars I would. Within the first 10…read moreminutes I noticed built up dust in every corner of the room, mold (shower floor, all in the soap dish area, and in the shower heads), blood on the shower curtain, chipped paint everywhere, dirty walls, 1 towel for 4 people (2 adults and 2 kids), weird bug on the bed near the pillows, moths in the room, both showers in the room have about 5 inches of water just sitting in there, and broken bedroom door knob. I've seen cleaner port-a-pottys (seriously). Do yourself a favor and just sleep in your car or pick a random bench. I wouldn't even bring my dogs here. Took photos of it all.

We stayed at the Playa Mazatlán for 3 nights and it is a beautiful hotel. Upon check in, you'll…read morereceive a wristband for the resort. The staff seemed nice (we speak Spanish so I am sure that is helpful). This is one of the older hotels in Mazatlán so it does look older, not many outlets in the rooms. It would also be nice to have a mini fridge. We had an ocean view room and there is an option at checkout to add the fridge to your room for I believe $5 a day. Our toilet clogged during our first or second night around 10 pm. We called the front desk and they sent someone over immediately to fix it. Like other reviews mention, you can hear music all night coming from the neighboring Oyster Bar. If that bothers you, I don't recommend booking an ocean view room. The noise was our main gripe with this resort. We did not pay for the all inclusive package as we knew we would be venturing into town to eat but did receive the breakfast package. We had breakfast here once and were not impressed. There is a line to get into the restaurant and the food was nothing special. We didn't do the all inclusive so we had to pay for any drinks we got from the bar. The prices were fair and the mango margarita with chamoy is delicious! Since the hotel is situated on the beach, beach access is a breeze. There are chairs and umbrellas for hotel guests. Some people set out towels to try to save seats but from our experience, there is someone who works at the hotel who tries to seat everyone which is nice! We used the clothing laundry service while we were here and all clothes came back clean and ironed within 24 hours. We did call to confirm that they would be bringing the clothes before we head out for the day and we paid in person when they brought us the clothes. The pools are great! There's a lot of them, the property is quite big. There is a nice heated pool over looking the ocean. There is also a man made cenote that you can swim in. This resort is pretty family friendly so there are a lot of kids but no kids are allowed in the heated pool. The heated pool does get pretty full though since the other pools are pretty cold. I do wish the pools stayed open later. I believe they close at 9pm and there is a security guard who makes sure no one takes a night swim. For transportation, if you'd like to take a pulmonía into town, there is usually a few waiting just outside of the resort. Also when we left, the bellhops helped us call a taxi to the airport. This hotel is well situated and you can walk to the malecón and neighboring shops easily. Some reviews mention not receiving fresh towels or bedding during their stay. We requested fresh laundry on our first day and it was never an issue. You also receive 4 pool towel cards that can be used for the pool or the beach. All in all, our stay at Playa Mazatlán was cozy and beautiful. The main issues are the music all night and the food.

Horrible customer service -- every request felt like a problem for them. I asked for an invoice at…read morecheckout, and they said they needed Mexican documents just to provide a receipt! Completely unreasonable. The buffet food was terrible -- bland, tasteless, and nothing was good. Even the beer tasted watered down. The hotel itself is outdated, which I could overlook because of its age, but the poor service and awful food made the stay unbearable. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
