I had a Peeps latte! Peeps latte! Haha! This place is legit, and it's definitely worth your coffee dollar. Hotwire has a great selection of beverages for good prices. They can do the classics, but they also have their cool twists on favorites (Nutella plus a Peep= SO AWESOME). I really appreciated how my sweet drink wasn't overly sweet. The service was quick and friendly. I was promptly greeted, and my drink promptly appeared. Yay! The place is really cool, but it is small, which isn't bad, but the only reason I can't give 5 stars (I'd give 4.5 if I could) is that the flow is difficult with people coming in, waiting for drinks, and people leaving. Yeahhhh Meh. I walked here the other day after a delicious lunch at Shadowland. I had high hopes, being that this was an independent coffee house. I walked in kind of shocked at the size. There was a busy barista (on break?) buzzing around and I felt like I should apologize for being in her way... but.... I was paying for coffee. Anyway, Apparently Blaine of Project Runway "Fame" works here. I didn't see him, which is good, because I kind of didn't want to get my outfit critiqued. Not by him anyway. (IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN) Anyway - I ordered my cappuccino, per the usual. And after I'd waited the typical amount of time I wait for it to cool, I take the first (and last) sip. I don't enjoy that particular flavor of coffee. The overly-nutty, burnt flavor. You know the one? Coffee is supposed to be smooth, even sweet, when done properly. I don't care about foam art. Hotwire is an inconspicuous place; with it's ivy covering it's entrance-way, it could easily be mistaken for a small French restaurant. Or an abandoned building. It's also a tiny place with a few outdoor seats as well as minimal inside seating. There are a few computers along the wall next to the bathroom: a purchase will get you 15 free minutes of glorious web surfing. Oh. As for the coffee, it's been alright the two times I've tried it. Most recently was a vanilla latte which was flavorful and gave the requisite buzz. Baristas working here have been of the friendlier, less pretentious variety: it's possible to have momentary chit chat without feeling like you're interrupting their angst-filled reverie. read more

This is a great little coffee shop next to the post office on California. They have a cute little terrace to sit out on on nice days. The shop itself is quite small and I'm usually on a walk with the stroller when we stop in so I feel awkward (but just park the stroller right outside the door in the terrace/garden. The baristas are always very nice, friendly and polite and they have dairy free milk options (as well as a dairy free chocolate for mochas). The drinks are always delicious. They are priced competitively for the area and other coffee shops around (a little high, in my opinion). They have some really unique looking drink combinations! read more

Great espresso, but for some reason, the barista didn't know that soymilk wasn't the same as cow's milk. I'm allergic to dairy and had a less than pleasant realization after guzzling down the frothy hot goodness. This is why not 4 stars, fancy and tasty lattes, great tasting espresso, but folks, PLEASE LISTEN to your customers when they order a drink. Two of four barista's made sure to make my soymilk latte with soy milk - that's not a very good record. I don't stay for the quaint, cute, cozy atmosphere, wi-fi or the whitty, sassy, hipster, youngsters - I like the espresso; smooth, rich and NO bitter aftertaste. Now, after reading other reviews about the soy - maybe I'd rather have the moo cow milk and just suffer the allergy symptoms... eww-GROSS! - soymilk ~ stored next to the toilet ~ REALLY? ~ Ewww! Hotwire is one of my favorite, and most regularly visited places in West Sea. Everyone who works here is great, the coffee is fantastic, and the service is quick. Reasons I give it five stars: 1) Delicious, reliable coffee - the most important criteria. 2) Text to order, which is nice when you're running behind in the morning. 3) Great staff and service, they remember your drink, they know your name, they're nice to your dog, they're just lovely. 4) Nice specialty drinks if you're in the mood for something different. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE, HOTWIRE COFFEEHOUSE??? Not only does this adorable, charming little brick coffee house remind me of cafes back in the opposite universe of the East Coast (D.C.) where I am from, but the staff, DURING A PANDEMIC on a BUSY day too the time out to be amazingly friendly when I was having a bad day. Which brings me to my next point...You just never know what kind of day someone is having. As for me, mine is and has been particularly as I have a torn Meniscus that looks like it might need surgery but am not getting enough answers on, and I feel so disabled. I went from being an active hiker to limping around and I just feel so....hopeless. And my husband and I have lost people from COVID and the list goes on. I get very emotional when people are GENUINELY AUTHENTIC AND NICE like where I am from on the East Coast because it happens so rarely, and it has caused a new PTSD complex and has kind of broken me. It has caused me SO MUCH pain to live here. Your coffee place reminds me of coffee houses of yore, seemingly going defunct...except for yours. Those BIG (AND ELITIST AND SNOBBY) coffeehouses...they ain't got nothin' on you! I am someone who suffers from PTSD, ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION, SO I AM NOT EXAGGERATING...This place made me feel so at home. In every way. The friendly banter with other customers kind of drew me in and seeing them treat people with all walks of life, and I mean ALL, with the utmost of respect. Jeff, you made me day. You are from Boston and I am from D.C., but us East Coasters are all connected somehow from our no nonsense vibes. I had wanted to banter around more but I am in so much pain and fatigue from my knee injury. But I want to DEEPLY thank you for the kindness you showed me JUST from talking to me. As I said, it is a RARE GEM when a place reminds me of where I grew up. I have also learned to be guarded about who I shared this with so I do not think I mentioned it but I am a Native American activist for 32 years and have not been treated well in this place. Hotwire is small...really small. The coffee is good. It does taste a little on the burnt/bitter side but I don't mind. I actually kinda like it that way. They have excellent pastries and the baristas are always nice. It's better to come here when the weather is nice because they have an outdoor seating area. The inside is way too small to just chill out. Hotwire is more of a grab and go kind of place. They have a computer station which is nice but it takes up most of the seating area. PLUS, they are active in the West Seattle community! Very cute lil place! I wandered in there yesterday in search of a caffeine fix only to discover quite a little gem. I ordered a latte with some cute orange name... kissed by an orange maybe? It was fabulous!! Fresh orange peel gave it the most incredible flavor. I think I would go out of my way to get another one! I haven't had a latte that tasty in quite a while. Exceptional. This is by far my favorite coffee shop! Their marigold latte and their doughnuts are the best thing to happen to this world since probably sliced bread or the World Wide Web! The best thing about it though is they allow dogs inside and are very dog friendly with all baristas being overly excited to see all of their doggy friends! I love local businesses and Hotwire is no different. I started coming here regularly from July for the Bahaman Breeze since my 19 month old loves it and I am sad that its available only till mid September. The barista Patience was sweet enough to make him a small cup of smoothie from mango juice since the drink was over for the year. I wish it was available the whole year though. I have tried the Latte, Berry power smoothie and the Peanut butter vegan bar so far. A cute little cafe which has the warmth of a family friendly environment. read more

This is the place to come for a bold cup of coffee. I love their Americanos. Rich, bold, flavorful - oh yeah, and consistent. They can make any drink you want, and have a full drink menu that they update with seasonal favorites. Their baristas are the best at what they do, and if it is not too crowded (read: out the door, cause it is tiny...not small, tiny) they will chat it up. The outdoor seating is either garden-like, or on the side walk out front on California for some people watching (you can see all kinds of people heading to the Post Office next door.) I wish there were 4.5 stars to give...4 seems low for how great their Mexican Mochas are! Staff here is phenomenal and they will remember you if you come back as frequently as I do. They offer a frequent flyer punch card so you can actually get a free drink in a reasonable amount of time. I have tried a few pastries here but was not a fan of what I tried. I am a full fat pastry lover however so perhaps those that like a lighter version would be happy. They do look pretty. The only downside is that it's tiny. Really tiny. Not a lot of room if you want to sit but I never want to stay...just take my full fat Mexican mocha with cayenne and hit the road. You can text them your order and it will be ready when you arrive! This local place is awesome- great flavor varieties delicious lattes with fairytale themed names and very friendly baristas. Has a supercute little outdoor garden seating area with a pergola covered in vines and plants. Came back twice the same morning to try a lavender iced latte and an incredible pistachio flavored latte you must try! They are not overly sweet but brimming w flavor. read more

Some coffee shops you frequent you might have something on the inside of the place that draws you to it. I'll use the example of the place you got to that you don't have to fight for seating or the place with a lot of outlets or the place that doesn't have any small children. Hotwire is not that. There aren't a bunch of places to sit. It doesn't have the raw sex appeal of a Starbucks Roastery but that doesn't matter. Let it be known that THEY MAKE GOOD COFFEE. Usually I end up here when I have to go to the post office. They also have competent baristas which I'm finding lately ain't a given. I've ordered a nice cafe au lait and my wife her matcha latte and nobody crapped their pants. They have a nice little selection of baked goods and cold drinks as well. Like I said this isn't especially the sit down place as it only has a few seats (a few more outside). Hell at least there's wifi. read more

I hate coffee, no really. I ended up in a place where most people apply coffee intravenously to their bodies. I am a tea drinker, except in the very rare instances that I need, desperately need, a caffeine fix. Then I have to have all sorts of things dumped in my coffee (Now froufrou coffee) to make it taste better. Even after I ordered my hazelnut latte, I did not need to ask for extra hazelnut flavoring, I did not have to grimace at the bitter taste of burnt coffee and the awakened feeling I extracted from this brew did not include heartburn or a tummy ache! I love the mornings where I leave my house, text my coffee into Hotwire, walk up to the junction to pick it up before catching my bus to work. The coffee is delicious! They have a seasonal menu that they regularly change up depending on whether the season is winter/spring/summer/football whatever! Everyone has coffee! Temporarily living in West Seattle I thought I would try a local coffee shop and by-pass the coffee chain. I was looking for coffee, saw the sign, and went on in. It seemed like the barista knew everyone and spent a great deal of time chatting up the customers. Not serving any coffee but enjoying her own coffee break. I ordered a basic drip coffee which was served to me at most 3 /4ths full, I am being generous here it was probably closer to 2/3s. I told her I didn't need any room for cream. She replied that I would have to wait for a fresh pot to be brewed. I said ok and waited. After the new pot was brewed she simply poured the new coffee into the existing and cooling coffee dregs from the last pot. So lets recap: passing off a 3/4 full cup of coffee as a full order? Seems a bit as an intentional rip-off and putting the new coffee into the old? A simple tossing of the cold coffee dregs and a cup of the fresh brewed would have made all the difference between a good coffee stop and a huge disappointment in the service and attitude. Unfortunately, Hotwire is not the place to go for coffee anymore. The baristas have mostly changed and a certain Katy Perry look-a-like has spoiled the friendly appeal of this little shop. No smiles, thank you or even a greeting from her, who happened to be there the last few times I've been in. Like seriously, are you too hip, singing along to loud 90s pop music, to even greet customers? One of the recent times I was in and ordered my usual soy latte, the barista who made my order obviously didn't hear my order correctly and made it with dairy. When I asked her if that was mine, as I had requested soy, she rolled her eyes at me as if it were my fault for not requesting the milk I wanted in the first place. Nice staff, the place is too damn small. Coffee tastes good but something is off, maybe a little on the burnt side for me, super strong. They are using environmentally friendly coffee and that is what got me in there. Don't even think of using the computer, the person to your right and left will look at your screen and read your emails with you. Cramped. If you get your java, get it to go. Service was friendly but too much chit chat with other people and made me wait too long. Parking is not easy. Cookie was hard as a rock but thanks for thinking of the environment with the shade grown beans. Tried it more than once to be sure, not the best but not the worst.
