I suspect the monthly price is actually ridiculous, but that's up to you to decide because I'm not paying! Ok let's talk about the bad things first, and they're not bad enough to lower it from 5-stars: 1. The place gets busy. Too busy, in my humble introvert opinion. Not much you can do about that, but avoid peak hours. 2. Every other gym I've gone to uses tape to mark their routes, which means any route can use any climbing hold. At this gym, they color code them BY THE HOLDS, and then the route difficulty is by color also, which means there are lots of cool holds that you'll never get to touch simply because they're a different color from the difficulties you're doing. This does limit the variety somewhat. Ok, everything else is good. The facility itself has like, everything. I don't even want everything - I just want to boulder. But they've got a vast outdoor area to relax or play in, studios, weights, and some wild varieties of climbing gear. The bouldering area is very large, with all kinds of features that I don't even know the official names for, but you can climb over and under and around pretty much any type of scenario you could want. The mats are premium, and they have down-climb holds in a lot of areas which is great for people like me who try to avoid higher-impact falls. While I do appreciate the hole-in-the-wall grungy gyms where things might be a little more personal and less crowded, I honestly think you'll have trouble finding a better climbing gym than this, anywhere.

The staff, coaches, and athletes at Free Range have been the kindest, coolest and most encouraging people I've met. CrossFit always seemed so intimidating, you hear about that intimidating and cliquey culture at some gyms, but not at Free Range. No matter what level you are, the trainers take the time to make sure you feel welcome, your form is good, and that you're challenging yourself the best you can. Plus the classes are just fun, the time flys by. I'm so glad I'm easily able to add some CrossFit/weight training classes into my workout routine each month. It's been very useful. This location is one of the nicer and newer EOS and while some of my favorite instructors (Sidney Ford) teaches here, I don't find myself popping in. It's a bit too long of a commute for my fitness class needs. EōS is a solid gym and I have no real complaints. I get to do what I need to do and get out with relative ease. Parking can be a rough though as it's a very popular EōS location.

I came in knowing nothing of yoga at all (in the physical practice of it). I did feel a little as if it was about the whole program rather than acknowledging some of us really are there to deepen our own practices. I believe it was the first class that we were writing letters for when we completed the program... this had me feel it was necessary to enroll in more than I had intended. The instructor was great, the classmates were great, but... I certainly felt it wasn't for basic entry level yoga, beginners. However, maybe it was just me? I decided to pull out while I was still able and deepen my own practice on my own. As for yoga classes, in 1 hr intervals? I have to admit, I have no experience beyond attending the program itself, since it is a yoga school.

Yoga spaces are typically rooted in kindness, mindfulness, and approachability, so it is disappointing to encounter communication or the lack of, that feels unwelcoming. This is not a once in a while experience, this happens every time I visit the studio. Sometimes I wish I didn't have to interact with her before entering my class as my vibe is completely shifted. She's short, she seems extremely irritated, she seems as though she would like to be anywhere but there, she does not smile, when you ask questions she makes you feel stupid, and when someone says thank you or have a good day she flat out ignores you. I hope this feedback is taken as an opportunity to better align staff interactions with the values the studio represents, especially someone sitting at the front desk. If this is the behavior the studio knowingly allows, I may have to cancel my 3 year long membership.

I've come to PRG (this abbreviation is what climbers call it) a few times mainly for skills training, once for climbing ascend skills training and another time recently for caving ascend skills training. Dief, the owner, is a great guy and let's climber/caver groups come in to practice in his gym, I really appreciate the community vibe here. I would say this is an older gym so things are a bit worn down but the vibe here is great. Very welcoming and close to the ASU campus so lots of college students here. I wish their bouldering section was bigger and this is where BP spoils me. BRG up north also has way more bouldering options, but keep in mind, BP and BRG are solely bouldering gyms. Alta out in Chandler and Gilbert also has way more bouldering options too but it's a much newer gym. Overall, a very solid climbing gym and you can feel the community vibe here. I'd definitely come back here again to climb, train, etc.!

Instructors were nice though our class instructor could've given a little more specific instruction. Like she taught us the moves well but didn't give us clear indicators of when exactly we were starting our little routine each time or from what portion of the routine we were starting at. But everyone seemed to be able to catch on! I think the harness probably just takes some getting used to, it was very uncomfortable. I am still definitely glad I checked it out though!
