This was my second time going here for cupping! I will have to say it is hands down one of the best on island! Price is reasonable and affordable compared to other places that do cupping. Also, probably the best technique as well. This is t your average plastic suction cups, this is the real deal! The glass and fire cups!! This is the only type of cupping I like to do! It's like a hole in the wall at the beginning of Chinatown! The first time I went was probably a couple years ago! It was $20 for cupping only. Today it is $25 for cupping only! Very reasonable and affordable! The people there are very nice and when you walk into the shop, it is full of Chinese herbal medicine, pills, and patches!! When I got the cupping, I did a full body because I know I needed it! It felt so good afterwards when they took off the cups! I went in feeling stiff and came out feeling relaxed! I really needed it since my neck and back was hurting! They also put the Chinese white flower oil on my back afterwards too! If you haven't tried, definitely go and try it! I have had chronic headaches for most of my life. There was a 3 year period where I was taking medication almost everyday because of a constant headache. I've done physical therapy, gone to chiropractors, and tried numerous types of medication and nothing has ever helped for long periods. Through the recommendation of a co-worker, I went to Hou Ren Tong for the first time a couple weeks ago. Keep in mind that prior to this I was taking Tylenol almost everyday for neck pain and headaches. Ever since my acupuncture/cupping treatment, I have not taken Tylenol since that day. It's now been almost 14 days Tylenol-free. I also feel great and haven't felt this great in a while. He recommended that I come in for the second treatment 4 days after the first, but was unable to. I'm going for the second treatment this weekend. If anyone is in doubt, I'd say just try it. It may work for some and it may not, but you'll never know unless you just try. The acupuncture doesn't hurt, but the cupping may hurt for some. BUT....it's a good kind of pain. read more

The thought of acupuncture needles scared me, but they made me so comfortable by talking me through the process. After 15 minutes of acupuncture, the cupping came. It was a bit sore at first, but my body got use to how it felt. After the culling they rubbed a menthol soaked cotton ball on my back where the cupping areas were. I felt like I was floating on a cloud!! This place is awesome, and the family that owns it is very friendly. I come here once a month or whenever my body needs it. So I'm the type of person who unfortunately gets sick A LOT. Name the OTC medicine, I've probably tried it. That method of trying to heal myself fails so I end up going to the doctor and receiving prescription medication. This time around, I got really sick right after my birthday. I've been sick for almost ONE MONTH. I went from flu to kidney infection to severe allergies. I'm so sick and tired of taking a bunch of medication and still not feeling well. I honestly think that taking all these medications are lowering my immunity even more. I decided to seek a more natural and Hollistic method. My friend recommended that I go see Hou Ren Tong for acupuncture. I yelped the place. It looked clean and legitimate. I called several times and finally was able to make an appointment. I don't know where to park, I got dropped off. It is in the beginning of North King Street. I went yesterday afternoon and I was immediately greeted by an older man. He asked me what was wrong and what was bothering me. He took my blood pressure and apparently my left arm told him that I have high blood pressure! I'm surprised. I knew I was stressed out but wow that took a toll on me. I was taken into a private room and lay down on a massage type bed. His wife came in and started placing the needles all over my face, wrists, and ankles. Then I got these clasps put on the needles and they started vibrating. It was soooo cool. Did not hurt at all! I closed my eyes and relaxed for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes were over, I was told to lay face down and I got the "cupping therapy" done on my upper back ( I told them my upper back was sore vs my lower back). It was only 7 minutes long but it felt really good during and after. My muscles felt very relaxed. After the session, it had been about an hour (including the consultation). I was given an option to purchase herbs to make tea at home. He said it would help me with my allergies and to get my voice back because my voice was almost gone when I had come in that day. OK here's the most awesome part. After I made the tea last night (trust me, it tastes bad but I was warned) and drank it twice before bed. I slept sooo good. This afternoon I started feeling like myself again! I still have a day and a half days worth of tea left to make. I will continue to drink it. I am not 100% better but it's safe to say I got my voice back and I'm feeling 90% better. After just ONE DAY!! Not even kidding. I've got more good things to say but all I can say for now is..acupuncture + gross herbal tea + allergra D is the winning combination! I can't believe I feel so much better so soon! I'm going straight to acupuncture next time I feel sick. Btw I paid $40 for the acupuncture and $30 for 3 days worth of herbs to make tea. Ive been through a few sessions of acupuncture and cupping here. Ive gone for some neck problems and over all tightness and tension in my neck and along my spine. Each session was about an hour. About a day after each session i felt better and better. One more to go and ill be good. The husband and wife team are very friendly and helpful. They were very good at making sure i was comfortable. They are both licensed and knowledgeable. Its easy to make an appointment they are open 6 days a week closed only on wed. The shop is a fairly small space, herbs and meds in the front area. 2 small rooms and a curtained area in the back. small but comfortable considering its chinatown location. I thought my overall experience here was pretty good. If you are looking for a spa experience this isn't the place for you. This is a traditional old school Chinese type of place. To my recollection this place only has 2 small rooms. I feel it's really beneficial to call in before you go to make an appointment, and they specifically tell you where to park. If you pay with a Credit/debit card they charge you a couple extra bucks, so I would recommend bringing cash. I was referred to this place, by a friend, however I wanted to do a bunch a research prior to coming here. I just didn't want some person sticking needles in my body. The needles they use are new needles, which are disposable. I like the cupping technique these guys do, however it makes your body look like you have a bunch of 'hickys' all over your body. Just don't plan on going to the beach within a week, then you'll be fine. read more

It took about 6 visits, but I started out walking with a cane and ended up pretty much back to normal. I took my Dad's advice about this place and gave it a shot. The Doctor will ask where the pain is and then they get to work on you. I believe its a husband/wife team, but nevertheless they will explain what's going on since you'll be face down throughout the procedure. Conscientious care with needles, cupping, and electrical stimulation. Nancy is gentle and a professional. I've had hearing loss due to working at the airlines and have been seeing them both for treatment. I have been able to make an appointment on Sundays (parking on street is free or I have husband drop me off) and leisurely receive treatment for an hour. I enjoy the cupping the best. I feel as though the toxins get sucked out! Nancy and Gary have always addressed my question and concerns. They certainly use more needles than what I had in the past. I pay $40 for the entire visit. Was referred by a friend. They treated me for shoulder, back, arm pain. After a couple weeks, I was (temporarily) healed. I guess with Acupuncture, you have to keep getting treatments to continue to feel the effects. I believe they have 2 closed rooms with doors and 1 room with curtain. Everything was sterile and Mr and Mrs Lin were very nice. I felt like they truly wanted to heal you. Tried the blood letting. Will never do that again. I was in more pain after that treatment than before. Parking sucks (parking meters in muni bldg around the corner). Price is good for "authentic" chinese acupuncture. read more

My boyfriend and I have been coming to Hou Ren Tong for about a year now and we can't get enough! We were referred to them by my auntie who has severe knee problems, she's been going to them for years. My boyfriend and I usually go together, make sure to book an appointment because they are very busy and it's just the two of them. Their office is super easy to find, right by APB skate shop at the corner of King St. and River St. Every time we go to Hou Ren Tong I usually go for pain in my back, stress, and anxiety. I also have knee problems. They ask you what's bothering you along with a few other questions, check out your tongue and put you in a room to begin your session. The needles don't hurt! I don't have any tattoo's and I have anxiety... so you can imagine how I was the first time I went. So silly, it's an amazing experience. After they place the needles, each one is hooked up to this machine that makes them pulse. Get ready for deep relaxation! After about 20 or so minutes depending on your treatment, they remove the needles and you have an option to do hot cupping also. Either way you're paying about $38 so you might as well partake in hot cupping. That's my favorite part. It's warm but also, nothing to be scared of. After about 6 minutes with the hot cups on your back they come remove them and you simply feel amazing! I try to make it a point to come 3-4 times a month. read more

My husband and I have been visiting this couple's office over the past several years. They are MIRACLE workers, I tell ya! Once a year/every two years, my husband will do something to TWEAK his back and somehow, they get him all better without having to pop a bunch of pills, etc. My husband is haole and he's completely SOLD on eastern medicinal ways. You're not going to this shop if you want the $75 "spa experience" - you're traveling to the beginning of where Chinatown begins. I've been having back pain and have pass by this place for many years but never went in. I called to schedule an appointment and was a little scared. They took my blood pressure, asked me some questions and explained the procedure. They did acupuncture first and cupping next. I LOVE the cupping part. It felt like a deep tissue massage. I loved it so much that I already booked my next procedure. Municipal parking is right around the corner. Make sure you bring quarters to feed the meter for at least 1.5 hours. The procedure takes 1 hour but best to have extra quarters in the meter so you don't have to worry about your meter expiring. It's 25 cents for 10 minutes. My back pain is completely gone! The cupping is better than an actual massage. I feel so relaxed, tense free, stress free and pain free. If you have pain, I would highly recommend this place. It's $48 and they accept medical insurance if your plan covers this type of procedure. Give them your insurance information and they will check for you otherwise, the cost of the procedure is $48. The owner's I believe are husband and wife they are super sweet. I dealt with Nancy and she asked me few questions like what problems had I been having, then she set me up in a room to the left and had me lay face down,and the needle process was started could not feel it at all it just feels like someone tapped you on the skin with the back end of a spoon{no joke}. she was very comforting and was letting me know all that she was doing while doing it. Than she hooked up a pulse thingy to each needle that sent vibrating pulse's through out your muscles pretty coo.no discomfort whatsoever that lasted about 20 minutes than following that the cupping began. she put a fire flame in each glass jar and put it on my back the jar suctions up your skin really hard tight like. I didnt think I would last long being that they skin was being suction really tight from the jars she put about 13 flame filled jars in my problem area {neck and upper shoulder} and the skin was pulled tight in that area but it wasnt bad or painful at all I just left this place and I'm definately going back, and the price will not break your pockets. Believe it or not my Internal Medicine Physician recommended Accupuncture for chronic aches and pains I sustained over years of physical strain of working as a Nurse. Yes a real Doctor of Medicine recommended Hou Ren Tong. He is a young progressive regular real Doctor. I have gone to Hou Ren Tong and my pain is taken care of nonpharmaceutically. All the medicine in the world can treat the symptoms (in my case backaches) but getting to the cause is the cure. I could feel my circulatioin "open up" and I no longer suffer from sciatica!
