We kindly ask that you verify this number to ensure your call was placed correctly." They made excuses for not responding after hanging up, rather than calling back: "Please be advised that while we diligently monitor and return all missed inquiries, our system may automatically block calls identified as potential scams for security reasons, which can occasionally occur with calls from unknown numbers. If your attempt to reach us by phone is unsuccessful, we respectfully ask that you contact us via email or text message." If their "system blocked" the elder's number, why ask to send another text - to be ignored again? Very strange a doctor's business will block unknown numbers, as in, any new clients. Why does "the system" block calls on numbers "the system" dialed out to? Do "blocked" calls "automatically" delete voice messages and completed website inquiries too? I usually try to wait after a few visits before I write a review for a business or service to be sure I'm not giving five stars (or two) for a one-time thing, but this is one of which I'm honestly quite confident. For over two months, I have heard of Dr. Kim and his massage staff's wonders from my friend. After each visit she promised to give me the contact (which she still hasn't!), and now I am kicking myself that I did not look the clinic up on Yelp on my own! I've been to a local sports chiropractor once, I think he was quite known and popular back then (IDK about now too). He was a jerk and quite unprofessional and was really pushy to get me and my then-partner to buy pricey packages. He badgered us about our finances and made snarky comments as we stupidly stayed and allowed this abuse because I didn't yet know how to say "no". That one terrible experience has made me leery of seeking services that require long-term/follow-up care, particularly if it's chiropractic-related. From my friend's stories and the other Yelp reviews, it seems like Dr. Kim is not like that at all. I submitted a request for appointment via the clinic website on a Saturday night, and received a call from Stacy on Monday. My main concern at this point was how much was it gonna cost me. Stacy looked up what type of benefits I had under my husband's insurance plan, and gave me two possible co-pay rates (one with deductible and one without). The one with deductible sounded doable so I went ahead and made an appointment; she said she will call the insurance company to confirm first thing the next morning. As luck would have it, there was a cancellation/ opening for the next day afternoon! But also that very night, I realized I forgot I had class at the same time so I left a voice message to reschedule. Someone texted me the next morning (so convenient!!) and got me into another opening/ cancellation. The receptionist was polite and friendly when I checked in. The business of me filling out the intake form and her making a copy of my information was swift and efficient. The consultation with Dr. Kim was also very swift and efficient. He gives very specific directions but is also quite gentle (I guess so as not to sound like he's bossing you around haha). When I casually declared that I have mild scoliosis, he very gently asked me whose diagnosis? I thought about it and said it was a self-diagnosis haha. Since young I've always had a slightly curved spine (first noted at a health check up, and subsequently re-confirmed with my own eyes after every X-Ray I've ever taken) and bad posture. I believe working from home in the last twelve months made my posture a lot worse because I don't have a proper working desk and chair (I sit on the couch, on my bed, on the floor, etc.) I found myself struggling to get up and almost always will have lower back pains, which I attributed to aging. Anyway, so he did a series of adjustments, during one of which I heard my vertebrae crack. Not gonna lie, some of those adjustments were quite painful (and also a little outside my comfort zone) that I had to catch my breath a few times. Then he told me to lie face down on the mat/chair and the next thing I know he was using a tool that I can only describe as a hand massager/jackhammer which was followed by another tool that sounds like a staple gun. Then, he used what I presume to be the ultrasound tool that other reviewers mention because he warned me about the cold, which was the gel. So he didn't elaborate what he did, and I didn't need to know, not like I would remember anyway. But he did ask me," How long has your back been like that?" Like what? "In such a bad shape." Uh, I don't know. A year? (Possibly longer!!!) Then he taped me up and it's all over, maybe under 30 minutes? As I was making my way to the reception to pay, he called out breezily, "OK come back whenever." Wow, OK, sure. Then, as if on second thought, he added "Maybe between two weeks and a month." OK I can do that, because I found out I don't have to fork out a deductible, yeah! Sorry for the longwinded story, but basically it seems like Dr. Kim doesn't want people to keep coming back to him unless they need to and it's so refreshing! The clinic itself is so hidden and unassuming, almost as if like he doesn't really want people to know they're there. I've been nudging my husband who also has chronic pain issues to see Dr. Kim. Super happy to have come to him and am really looking forward to the massage with my next appointment! #43 read more

Best chiro I've ever been to! I have Ehler Danlos Syndrome (a cartilage condition) and chiropractic can often be contraindicated because of how frequently I dislocate things. I had dislocated a vertebrae and needed emergency help. He spent nearly an hour helping gently realign and then smooth out the scar tissue with ultra sound. Checking in was so chaotic the doctor was ushering me to the back while the receptionist was barking at me to sign something. All happening at the same time. I am so happy my insurance company recommended Dr. Kim to me. Located in the Manoa Marketplace. Take the stairs located across from the fire station (Manoa Drive) to the second floor. Dr. Kim is amazing! I'm a first time mom who is breastfeeding . I began to suffer from neck ache and headaches from holding my son and using poor posture when feeding him . Nothing helped to take my neck ache and migraines away, and I go to yoga daily. In just two visits Dr. Kim minimized my pain and my headaches are almost gone. tldr: This place is not concerned with helping you or checking your insurance - pay full price and don't ask questions or they'll tell you to go somewhere else. I'm surprised at all of the high reviews given the service I've experience with Manoa Chiropractic. I always have hopes that a doctor's office will be warm and compassionate with people who genuinely do their best to try to help you, but it's the exact opposite at this business. Their attitude seems to be "we're short-staffed," which translates to cutting corners and a "take it or leave it" approach. I called Manoa Chiropractic to make an appointment and Dr. Kim answered, but he should probably stick to the medical side of things. He asked me to transmit my personal data like medical cards over text/unsecure email and when I asked if he could please just write it down instead, his response was that he doesn't have time for that and he is short-staffed. Instead I could come in to show the medical card. When I politely asked again if I could just speak with the receptionist and give the info over the phone, his response was literally "we are too short-staffed" and "you should find another office because we are very busy." I guess too busy to do the part of the job that involves checking insurance? Bizarre. When I got in touch with the receptionist, Sappira, she at least took the insurance info down over the phone, but she called the wrong insurance company number and thus could not verify my benefits. Both her and Dr. Kim's solution were to put down a deposit and after they ran the treatment through my insurance company, then I would know what I would owe them. I can't think of a time in my life when I signed up for something without knowing the actual cost, haha. Not about to start now. That seems super shady. Anyway, after about 10 minutes of Sapphira explaining why she thought she had done her job, I convinced her to please call the correct number and please call when they're open. She agreed. Well about 15 minutes later, she calls back and says well they're not open (we already knew that; it was after hours), but she got partial information from an automated line and could tell me the deductible, but not the true cost after the deductible was met. We spent another 20 minutes talking in circles with me asking for her to please just determine the actual cost of the treatment and her making excuse after excuse. It was so strange! Why don't you just call during office hours instead of giving me partial info and wasting a half an hour on the phone with me? That would have taken 5-10 minutes, at most. I even offered to call the insurance company myself if she would tell me what codes to inquire about, but Sapphira heaped a bunch of qualifiers on, saying well it might end up with different billing later on, there are "passwords" she can't give me that she has to tell the insurance company directly, etc. So basically, I run the risk of a bunch of extra charges after the fact. Then when I said it would've been faster if she'd just called the insurance company when they're open, she literally said: "thank you for reminding me about how long I'm spending on the phone with you. I have a lot more other work to do" and got off the phone. Super fun, haha. It was just a shady couple of conversations that seem like they're going to surprise you with your bill later on. Nah. I finally just gave up because it was pretty clear that they would rather talk you in circles than just do their jobs and get the insurance information. Quite frankly, considering Dr. Kim would've had to examine me if I went through insurance, I wasn't really comfortable with him touching me and adjusting me given he told me to go somewhere else. read more

Dr. Kim is amazing!! I suffered a rib injury, tearing 4 intercostal muscles while surfing. I had been dealing with this rib injury for 6 plus months before I saw him with no relief. I was working with another chiro to Healy this problem and was only receiving temporary relief. With the help of Dr. Kim, he was able to fix me in about a month with his ultrasound machine therapy!!! Even after the first session I felt so much better, I could actually take a full breathe. I am so annoyed and angry due to the treatment I received. I have been suffering from back pain for over 7 years! I've seen multiple doctors, have gone to years of physical therapy, and have been on multiple pain medications and muscle relaxers - none of which have helped or lessened my pain. Massage therapy provides temporary relief so I called and made an appointment at this practice. Dr. Kim was very nice and he did a preliminary exam of my back and told me that he will do everything he can to provide me with relief... so at first I had a good impression. HOWEVER! Then I meet the massage therapist & to my horror she made my back pain worse! I paid for an hour long massage WHICH I DID NOT RECEIVE! Instead I endured about 40 minutes of her poking at my spine with her thumbs (I stupidly sat through it because I thought "Hey, maybe this is how they do it here?"). She also laid essential oils on my back still in their containers to see which oils my body "rejected." All the while she was asking me about my medical history and my family medical history. She asked me about cancers or pain that runs in my family and I stupidly told her that my mom survived Thyroid cancer. She then said "ahhh yes I just did a thyroid scan and there is almost no thyroid activity." I was laying on my stomach with my head in the massage table hole and thought "wtf? Scanned how?" I told her that my brother and I have both gotten blood tests done to test our hormones/iodine levels and everything is always fine and normal. And she told me to roll over on my back so she can show me. SHE THEN PULLS OUT A CRYSTAL!!! It's a little crystal on a chain and she holds it over my pelvis and says, "So if the crystal spins that means that everything is functioning properly." The crystal starts spinning BUT SO DOES HER ARM!! I CAN SEE HER ARM MOVING IN A CIRCULAR MOTION. She moves the crystal up my body to my head all the while moving her arm to make this ridiculous crystal twirl. Then she says, "as I move over your thyroid notice how the crystal stops." BUT SO DOES HER ARM! I didn't want to say anything because I was naked on her table and felt SO UNCOMFORTABLE! I just waited it out so I could get THE F*^% out of there. Then for the last 5-10 minutes she just sat on a chair in the corner and told me that I needed to eat a lot of seaweed and get a medication called iodoral.... She then lets me get dressed and shes waiting in the front desk area. She tells me again that I need to get ioderalnand that when she comes back in November that "we will continue our treatment." F*+^ that!! The front desk worker asked me if I wanted to schedule another appointment and I said "no" then walked out. (Also, in the beginning of the appointment I told her that heat is the only thing that helps. She also told me that I shouldnt use my electrical heating pad because the electrical current interferes with my body's natural energy. ‍‍‍‍‍) I've suffered from back pain for almost 8 years! I've had to live with constant, sometimes nauseating pain. I've had nights where I couldn't even sleep because when I would move the pain would shock me back into wakefulness. I've had to endure years of being called anorexic and people saying to me "f*%* you for being so skinny!" Or calling me a "Skinny Bit*^" because the stress on my body from this pain makes it almost impossible to gain weight. And this one woman thinks she can cure me with a crystal and a diagnosis she made after an hour of poking at me??????? NO. Never again. read more
